Passed on the 'valid argument' for the usual, and tedious, snark, eh?

I'd like Obama to do one thing right, but it hasn't happened in over five years.

Of course, when there's nothing Obama does you wouldn't carp about... Too easy, matey. Thanks.

serendipitious:

" You are saying he should have been left where he was? "

Afaic, I am saying the 5 Taliban executives should have been left where they were.

Where the traitor is, should be up to him.

No, Obama made the right choice by getting him back to the US. If he then has to go to prison in the US, so be it. You are saying he should have been left where he was?

" Like I said, partisan carping..."

It's you doing the partisan carping chappy. There's nothing Obama does that you don't toe the line about. I'd like Obama to do one thing right, but it hasn't happened in over five years.

The Taliban weren't just going to let him go after five years. Obama made the right choice.

How? By giving in to Islamist terrorists? Of course they weren't going to let him go and who's fault was that? He was the one that deserted. He was the one that made the decision to turn his back on a sworn oath and leave his brothers of which 6 were killed in searching for him, not only is he a deserter and a traitor, but he has blood on his hands. You're not looking at the bigger picture. The guy put himself in this situation and no one else, but Obama in typical idiotic fashion, once again has given in to the enemy and trust me, they are laughing and rejoicing about this. This an astronomical win for the Islamists. Obama just opened up Pandora's box and I don't even think in his pathetic mind he realizes that.

Got it sorted out quickly and quietly when the chance arose.

Actually, he made things worst for our troops in the long run.

Whether Bergdahl left his post or not can be sorted out later.

No, it can be sorted out now and it is factual that he left. There were already a few interviews with some of the men that were looking for him and that were with him in the same unit that confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is indeed a deserter, that fact is already established, let's be clear on that part.

The GOP will attack Obama for whatever choices he makes regardless of the issue but, luckily for the US and the world, the Democrats will keep winning elections.

Actually, the Democrats have been doing kinda badly in local elections and the Senate looks more like the Dems will lose that and the Republicans will probably gain seats in the House as well. I think you need to stop watching Msnbc. Fact of the matter is, people don't like like Obama because of his increasingly over the top crazy policies and you can add this exchange to his litany list of bungles. This though is probably one of the worst.

@USNinJapan2

I couldn't agree with you more. This is beyond disgraceful.

Obama needs to prove he does not wrong about prisoner exchange by killing released 5 Taliban by Drone.

What do you expect from US White House and Congress. Bunch of ignorant politicians !!!!!!

Another Charles Robert Jenkins it seems. However, since his disappearance has caused the death of several of his fellow Soldiers who participated in the country-wide search and rescue ops that were conducted after his disappearance, he shouldn't get off as lightly as Jenkins. If what his platoon mates and senior officers have said about him is true and he wasn't captured but deserted, I hope they throw the book (UCMJ) at him and he spends the rest of his life in Leavenworth.

It might as well be. Read/watch up on John Mearsheimer's Israel Lobby.

Good Grief! Lol

The problem is, this president has given a green light in the art of throwing in the towel. But why is anyone surprised. The longer Obama is president, the weaker we become as a nation this guy just doesn't get it.

Israel is NOT the U.S.!

Like I said, partisan carping...

That's why we have courts martial and the UCMJ.

it's laughable to hear Obama's sheep defending this "rescue" and even going on about Due Process. Ludicrous.

Actually, Due Process is a valid argument as to why we shouldn't just consign the man to . Certainly beats snarky hypocrisy and arrogant self righteousness.

Barack Hussein Obama : "Allahu Akbar!"

Just about sums it up...

Illegally trading someone you knew was a deserter and possible collaborator for five of the worst terrorists on the planet....Obama may have gone one step too far this time. Although I am sure they do care that it has pushed all those other scandals off the front page...

Obama, thought you didn't negotiate with terrorists.

Bergdahl's platoon mates definitely thinks they deserve some answers from Bergdahl.

But they also think he deserves to come home since ya can't pick and choose with regards to the U.S. forces leaving no one behind.

Let's hear his side of the story since the only one who really knows what happened that night is him. Anything else right now is just speculation.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

It was the right thing to do. The rest is just partisan carping, as usual.

So you're saying to capitulate with the enemy is a good thing, NOW when ever there is a conflict, take a U.S. Soldier hostage and make the necessary demands and you'll always get what you want. Thiswas a bad move, proving once again, Obama doesn't have the cahones to lead. What did Nancy Pelosi say, Obama has a great foreign policy record??? Seriously, how, when where? Remember, the guy deserted his post and he cursed Americans and 6 soldiers are dead because of this jerk and we had to let some senior top Taliban go and not they will be recycled into the jihadist movement and try once again to kill Americans. The guy is trash!

Rolling Stone has the full story. Best line, as far as I am concerned:

"Frankly, we don't give a sh!t why he left," says one White House official. "He's an American soldier. We want to bring him home."

WilliB: cite your sources. Some say that, some say this. Sounds like Fox.

Too many questions about this guy. Many are saying he walked away and is therefore responsible for the deaths of others. Why on earth is the US trading him for Gitmo prisoners? Obama, thought you didn't negotiate with terrorists. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark I believe.

And what's this crap about him forgetting English?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Thanks, John, for saving us due process!

As I wrote yesterday: This is interesting move in many ways. First, getting the soldier home was paramount; second, relieving America of five more Guantanamo souvenirs is another (short) step in closing down the facility; third - and most interesting - by treating the Taliban as a legitimate entity rather than an illegitimate terrorist organization, America has taken an important step in coming to terms with a group who no doubt wields a large influence over Afghanistan. Most probably feel, as I do, that the Taliban are abhorrent, but adults eventually learn to deal with things that they don't like.

It's not just the soldier; it's the process and the finality.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Laguna, you may have been just out for a stroll, but he was a VOLUNTEERED Army enlistee who went AWOL in an area of armed conflict.

As Drill Seargent Hartman said, "You can give your heart to Jesus, but your axe belongs to (Uncle Sam) the Marine Corps."

He's a deserter. And his desertion led to the deaths of several others sent out to find his carcass.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I wasn't much younger than this soldier when I traveled out to western China, just on the east side of the mountains to which he apparently wanted to flee. He was 23; I was 22. People do foolish things at that age. That does not mean that, when sent out to fight for your country, that your country gives up on you.

With this soldier brought home, America can finally draw a line under its Afghanistan involvement. That anyone would question actions required to secure his release astounds me.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Another success of the administration's foreign policy. Sheesh!

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

There are newspaper reports now saying that Bergdahl has converted to islam and spent his time with the Taliban teaching them to make better bombs.

If that is true, what can one say.... Congratulations to the US for exchanging this asset for of 5 top taliban terrorists. What a brilliant deal, and what an asset to Western society. Not.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Lest we forget...

Ronald Reagan gave weapons to a country that has "Death to America" as their motto for hostages.

It's all just a part of history repeating itself.

What does that have to do with anything?!

It may be worth noting that Israel does prisoner exchanges all the time.

Israel is NOT the U.S.! It's been a cornerstone for decades that the U.S. doesn't negotiate with terrorists, once you give in, they will take it as a sign of weakness and will do it again, the Israelis know a thing or two about that.

The guys is scum and it's nice he's back with his family, but 6 soldiers are dead because of this guy and the father making those radical comments. These are very disturbed people.

Countrovery or a new video of behading? Which one is better?

Afghanistan is a lost cause. Timing is calculated. Sad but true. Don't need to waste more lives. Swallow your pride.

Well, now the Taliban play a wicked game of Badminton. He learned their language. To kill him would have been a waste of a bullet.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This deserter and most likely traitor will be hailed as a hero. He'll cash in with a book deal, movie deal, and interviews on TV. Or maybe he'll do some damages on American soil as he seems to hate what his country stands for. There are too many crazy kids on the news lately. Now another questionable one is heading home. I can't handle the truth.

I don't know but could there be more to this exchange we don't know about? Five of them for one of our guys who is a questionable soldier will take some time to answer.

6 soldiers were directly killed and others wounded as a result of Bowe's reckless stupidity.

Countless others were endangered as Bowe was used advantageously by the Taliban/Al Qaida to target U.S. and coalition troops.

Bowe has the blood of these soldiers on his hands.

It is telling that, apparently, not one soldier stood up, cheered, or made any noise in Bagram when Defense Secretary Hagel told the gathered soldiers that Bowe was released back into U.S. custody.

Obama's team opens the dangerous flood gate with by swapping the five Gitmo. detainees for a questionable American soldier who might already being influenced by the Taliban. Regardless, Obama broke the law in doing so without notifying the Congress even negotiating the swap through the thirds party of Qatar. How many American lives were at risk in detaining those five terrorists, and what kind of signal Obama is sending to others. This is what we get from a symbolic president without substance. The future generation will pay for this grave mistakes by this deficit in chief.
