Wow, pretty shocking stuff abut the minors and the charges of rape...

"“It does raise very serious allegations and does raise matters that are deeply sensitive and they will shock some people,”

It should shock ALL people, save those being charged.

Seriously not a great surprise here sadly. The military is like every other institution that had minors in its ranks, you get predators that pray on them whether it be the ADF, the churches, the scouts, orphanages whatever. Where ever there are young people at risk there is sadly a predator that will take advantage. Just hope those guilty of these crimes are punished and those that turned a blind eye are exposed. Its time the ADF stopped being a closed book and protected its own bad apples.

Regret over such stunning report, hope Assies take measures to avoid such incidents.

a young male recruit having sex with an unwitting female classmate

I must say, one does wonder how the female could be unwitting.

She didn't notice, or what?

The report suggested pedophiles in the past joined the military to access young people in the same way they sought out positions in orphanages, schools and churches.

Absolutely disgusting.

Documents previously released detailed "horrific" child sex assaults and brutal initiation ceremonies and painted a culture of cover-up, failure to punish perpetrators and hostility toward victims who complained.

Even more disgusting.

These past victims whose voices could not be heard for so long and have had to keep it to themselves over so many years deserve the most sympathy and justice.

Bertie,

"She didn't notice, or what?"

She probably didn't know her partner had the webcam was on. Isn't this really a scene from American Pie?

A brutal business.

The fact that the Australian Government is going to release this document is an indication that this kind of behaviour has to be stamped out.

Lets see other governments come clean about the nastiness that goes on once the uniform comes off.

Shocking news. Hope they can help the victims and punish the perps. Bernie, I think it is a typo. I think they meant to type unwilling, not unwitting.

"Unwilling!"

Yes. That makes much more sense.

unwitting/ʌnˈwɪtɪŋ/ ▶adjective 1 not aware of the full facts: an unwitting accomplice. 2 not intentional.

I don't know about that 'Skype scandal', but I think the girl consented sex but wasn't aware of the footage.

These "Perps" need to find some other form of activity to occupy their minds, and quit (physically) dragging everyone into their compulsive sexual fantasies. If they need psychiatric help, then they should get it. They shouldn't be so selfish, preying on others!!!

If the Aussie military had this long a history of sexual misconduct, what was the independent (?) Inspector General or other outside law enforcement agencies doing?

Got to agree with Aida. "Unwitting" seems to be the correct term. Otherwise the article would have talked about the "young male recruit raping an unwilling female classmate" rather than just saying "a young male recruit having sex with an unwitting female classmate". Seems like somebody finally watched "American Pie" and thought, "What a GREAT idea!"

So the Aussie army is full of Sanduskys??

I am shock that people are shock about this kind of behaviour. The military (any nation) is just like any work place or any places that have people who likes to pick on others because it gives them power. The world is full of people like that.
