Stockholm syndrome at its finest. Perhaps the corrupt megalomanic would have been voted out if there were a viable opposition party...

The Cult of Daniel Andrews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY64Ah_KKlM

Usually, being behind the world's longest lockdown, a mandatory vaccination policy, and corrupt backroom deals with militant union chiefs would spell the end of one's leadership, but this demonstrates just how low we have sunk.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Also, if you define "progressive" by finding ways to subvert national security to sell off Victoria under mass infrastructure projects to the Chinese Communist Party (Belt & Road initiative), then yes, I suppose he is "progressive."

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Indeed, how dare a govt try to protect its electorate.

Disgraceful how low they have sunk.

Were you there when Dan Andrews circumvented the Constitution under bogus "emergency powers" to shut interstate borders, forced you to stay indoors for 23 hours a day and prohibited you from travelling further than 5km from your home?

Were you there when he forced an unscientific, irresponsible, one-size-fits-all "no jab no job" policy on workers without any consideration to their health and family medical history, even when other governments around the world had long dropped such measures?

Were you there when Dan Andrews was so concerned about "protecting your safety" that people didn't get to see their own parents buried, weren't able to enter hospitals to see their own children being born, and mass-missed cancer appointments?

Yes, Dan Andrews was so concerned about "protecting the health" of you and your electorate that he was more than willing to punish you physically, mentally and financially to protect it.

There's nothing wrong with traditional Labor Party values. But everything is wrong with Dan Andrew's values.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

People chose to live like caged animals. May they get what they deserve.

Progressive? LOL. Like Jay and Hermitage Nads said above, the government is run by a corrupt socialist-left faction autocrat who

signed a secret MoU with Beijing on the Belt & Road against the best interests of his state and country;

locked down his state longer than any other place outside China, with harsh penalties for people who dared to go out for more then an hour a day and more than 5km from home, and destrying thousands of small businesses

essentially forced the vax by preventing the unvaxxed from participating in society with his CCP-like vaccination passports, even though the vaccination was still experimental

oversaw a complete fiasco of a hotel quarantine security program to keep his union mates happy;

has been questioned by a corruption commission and refuses to cooperate;

had the state police harass people who publicly questioned and protested against the harsh vaccination and lockdown rules, with the police firing rubber bullets into the backs of anti-lockdown protestors

essentially bribed the Victoria's upper house cross-benchers into passing an emergency law that gives him unilateral power to declare a health state of emergency, bypassing parliament - against the advice from many of Victoria's most eminent legal experts

trying to suppress a public inquiry about Labor's use of public funds for party t-shirts;

bullies journalists who dare to ask him hard questions

runs the most heavily staffed office of any leader in the country, with the lions's share being "communications (propaganda) officers"

has dug the state into an enormous debt hole of about A$100 billion, almost double that of the next biggest (NSW) through profligate spending of other people's money without the income stream to pay it off

has presided over a health system that has ambulance services on the brink of collapse

awarded an insanely overpriced contract to a French company under investigation for corruption to build and run the state's desalination plant, giving the French company something like a million dollars a day even when producing nothing

is vociferously anti-Christian, but claims to be a Catholic when the situation suits him.

There's more, but I don't have time to write. But the only "progressive" part of this government is that they're progressing the state down a path of misery and bankruptcy. The Liberal Party was weak and used none of the political ammo they could have to destroy Andrews, so they failed to convince the majority of Victorian voters that they could do a better job. And the majority of Victorian voters swallowed the lies and have returned a government whose senior members should be rotting in prison now.

Glad I'm in Japan.

Libs are on the nose but this is a surprising outcome wonder how the independents did!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The Libs were completely useless. Independents might fare ok in the upper house, but results won't be clear there for a while yet.

Were you there when Dan Andrews circumvented the Constitution under bogus "emergency powers" to shut interstate borders, forced you to stay indoors for 23 hours a day and prohibited you from travelling further than 5km from your home?

Yes!

Were you there when he forced an unscientific, irresponsible, one-size-fits-all "no jab no job" policy on workers without any consideration to their health and family medical history, even when other governments around the world had long dropped such measures?

Your opinion is colorful and not exactly correct but Yes I was there.

Were you there when Dan Andrews was so concerned about "protecting your safety" that people didn't get to see their own parents buried, weren't able to enter hospitals to see their own children being born, and mass-missed cancer appointments?

Yes, I was there.

And I can attest that the vast majority agreed with his handling of the emergency as evidenced by his being reelected.

Well done Dan. The only issue I strongly disagree with him on is his attempt to sign up for belt and road which was thankfully overridden by the federal government for national security reasons. Otherwise, he fully deserves his reelection.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

It is not a reflection of his handling of the emergency. It is a reflection of the ineffectual opposition party who failed to highlight the deficiencies of the Andrews administration.

Victorians are still owed an explanation regarding the hotel quarantine fiasco to which the Premier's standard reply is "I can't remember" At the 2018 election he championed transparent and accountable Govt and then shuffled the comments into the wastepaper basket.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

lol, not surprised Peter14 is a fan of Dan. I'm just thankful I don't have to live in Victoria, happy to watch the trainwreck from afar

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The re-elected Premier there, Dan Andrews passed legislation allowing abortion until the day of birth, and he refused an amendment that would have mandated pain relief for the child. This is not progressive. This is regressive and monstrous. Shameful.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The Labor win shows that Victorians can't stomach the lunatic fringe, and their deranged lies (exhibit A: abortion fantasy story above). Liberals failed to distance themselves from the lunatic fringe. If they want to win power, they should call out the nutcases whenever they crawl out from under a rock. Then people might be more receptive.

Follow the Chinese money.

Maybe a sign that gaslit Australians are beginning to wake up from their right-wing delusions?

Victorians can't stomach the lunatic fringe, and their deranged lies

Fact check: The Lunatic Fringe won Melbourne, Prahran, Brunswick and Richmond in a "greenslide."

Great, now your kids can look forward to failing their school exams because they didn't "acknowledge the 'traditional custodians' of the land" in their opening remarks.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Fact check: The world is facing a climate crisis.

If you don't recognise that, there's no point talking to you. Political parties that voice genuine concern about that (rather than lip service), and suggest that modern societies take serious steps towards reducing the severity of what we've all got coming aren't lunatics. Winning a number of seats proves they're not a fringe either.

Any questions?

Great, now your kids can look forward to failing their school exams because they didn't "acknowledge the 'traditional custodians' of the land" in their opening remarks.

This is already the case at Monash University - students were warned that they would be unable to graduate or sit eExams if they failed to complete a mandatory 'Indigenous Voices' module

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Murdoch's spin doctors at The Australian & Sky News have been at work again. Work on your critical thinking skills a bit, hey?

https://www.monash.edu/news/articles/indigenous-australian-voices

"This 15-minute module, which is ungraded (zero credit points, and zero fees), was developed to provide students with an opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia, and gain an important understanding of the rich and complex histories of First Nations Peoples and the lands on which we study, work and live.

To date, more than 49,000 students have completed the module.

Whilst some students may already have a depth of knowledge of the experiences of Indigenous Australians, if one student doesn’t then this module is worth it.

The University will continue to assess the introduction of compulsory modules. The introduction of compulsory modules follows a thorough process involving multiple areas of the University. The Indigenous Australian Voices module is one of three compulsory modules, including academic integrity and Respect at Monash.

As with all mandatory modules, students who do not complete them by the deadline will lose access to units in Moodle until they are completed. Incompletion of the module will NOT directly impact exam attendance or graduation. Students who complete their academic units will be eligible to sit exams and graduate regardless of the completion status of compulsory modules."

And the conservative tears don't stop to flow in the comments..

It's incredible to have the Sky News talking heads right here in our humble comments section.

And the conservative tears don't stop to flow in the comments..

It's disappointing, yes, how such a rotten and corrupt government could get back in. But the scale of the reaction isn't even in the same universe as the insanity from the left when Trump won in 2016. And they're still obsessing about him.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

When politicians say they are going to spend money on you to build stuff for you, you should know that it is your money, or more specifically, your kids' money that they are spending. It's not their money and it isn't free. It's all borrowed on your official state/national credit card.
