And I thought US police were bad.

oh please. If this were the US and the guy's skin were a little darker it would have been a bullet and not a thumb.

A thumb to the eye is street fighting, not professional policing.

this was on the street. a thumb in the eye is an effective disrupting technique. it looks to me like the cop was going for a collar tie, which is a wrestling move aimed at controling your opponent head. Where the head goes, the body follows.

You make it sound like lockdowns are prisons. Many people including myself, found the lockdowns a wonderful opportunity to do our favourite hobbies, start new ones and spend more time than we ever had before with our loved ones.

Let them eat cake, eh? Consider for a moment that not everyone lives the privileged life you do. They need to work to feed their kids and keep a roof over their head. They can't afford enjoying hobbies while their kids go hungry and lose opportunities, and while their house is being repossessed. I am amazed that people with any sort of education cannot grasp that not everyone enjoys the comforts they do.

Anyway, I'm interested to hear what you think, if you have time.

Thanks. This is unusual on this forum. But I also respect your position. Peace Bro.

Jacinda you have to go,leave your job for someone more capable.

enough is enough.

get it right and leave.

now.

Yes, Jacinda should have just done nothing and let thousands of people die, I mean, the shear audacity of the woman, wanting to save lives. She is one of the worlds best leaders, and the overwhelming majority of New Zealanders know it. If only there were more like her.

The clashes in the capital of Wellington came a day after police reported that some of the protesters had thrown human feces at them.

That is a way of showing everyone what is in their brains!!!

Video posted online shows a white car driving the wrong way down a one-way street toward a group of officers who quickly get out of the way while people shout. The vehicle comes to a stop at the police line and several officers climb inside and pull out the driver.

And most of them would be drunk out of their minds.

These are criminals and belong in prison!

Yes. However you may find out when the dust settles that shutting down a country has harmed more people than it helped.

Sure. But that's not what happened. NZ didn't shut down except for brief periods. It's not shut down now.

But I think it's a very short line from coercing and compelling to forcing.

Which is where I say unfortunate, but common good argument.

Job loss and social ostracism (vax passports) are pretty strong compellers.

The first I sympathise but the second I see as "actions have consequences". In any case, this is temporary.

I do agree that you have valid points, but it's a dilemma.

"Mostly" free!

Well, I guess those protesters can go home and rest easy.

They are "Mostly free".

I meant over the last two years.

The protesters aren't whinging about lockdowns, they are whining about vaccine restrictions and having to wear a mask while NZ is going through an Omicron surge.

The irony is, that the government is planning to get rid of vaccine restrictions, but to do so while numbers are surging would be reckless.

So, at the end of the day, the protest is completely pointless.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Yes. And waht's your point?

despite locking the country down for 2 years and plans for at least 3.

You lie. NZ was briefly locked down in the last 2 years, but mostly free. And there are no plans for more.

2 shots and a booster will give me long term immunity to Omicron

…..

It won’t give you immunity to Omicron.

Ask the single and double boosted about that and no vaccine will help without a healthy immune system!

Yes it will and in fact it is better than immunity from getting Delta or the OG. But I should clarify, I don't mean I won't catch it, but that I will be able to fight it.

And sure, if you are immunocompromised, you will not get benefits, so that's why everybody should get vaccinated.

government work for people as its servants in theory...

In properly functioning democracies that's the case. And if it isn't the case, then the people can vote out officials who do not work for the people, like Americans did with Trump, and vote in those they think will do so. Exceptions are places like Belarus, and other states that authoritarians have been able to take control of, especially with backing from more powerful authoritarian states like Putin's Russia.

Yet fringe minority groups in many democracies clamor for authoritarian rightist systems, and are supported, especially via social media by authoritarian regimes from foreign countries like China, Turkey, Iran and Russia.

I understand all the arguments about the greater good, and I agree with them Like I said, I got vaccinated and will do so again. I simply think mandating vaccines, a medical procedure - the refusal of which is a human right, is a step too far.

There is no mandate that somebody has to get the vaccine. At all. And while I am sympathetic to people not wanting it, the public good has to come first. The mandates are very limited for that reason.

It's the trolly problem of our time.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

2020 H

Yes. However you may find out when the dust settles that shutting down a country has harmed more people than it helped. Very much dependant on the country and how it acted in the last few years. There is plenty of data out there that suggest life-years-lost far exceeds the life-years-saved.

Two years plus of a childs education lost is hardly a small price and has long term effects on the amount that person will earn in the future and the health of that person. Poverty is by far the largest factor on life expectency.

Nothing can change what has happened but we can learn from it and make sure the same mistakes are not repeated. Although it appears people in power are constantly failing to learn. Or maybe they just do not have the mental capacity to understand.

Very interesting that this shock headline fails to mention no police were hurt, or if they were even targeted.

Despite everyone having a camera phone, their are no photos.

Unlike the following example of an Antifa member hitting 4 protesters in Ottawa 2 weeks ago with his car.

https://nypost.com/2022/02/08/canada-trucker-protest-hit-and-run-suspect-is-antifa-punk-rocker-david-zegarac/

And typical Antifa, it turns out he was also a pedophile.

But not so much as a hint of in in JT unfortunately.

My wish is people move on and make sure that no government can ever shut-down its country again, can never force medical treatment or create a two/three tier society. Sadly I have a feeling that wont be the case.

Does your wish include the government protecting its people? I would hope so.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

WTF says 'no they are dealing with a minority of law breaking rioters whose ideology isnt supporter by the vast majority on NZlanders '

Could that not be said about the protests in HK promoting democracy?

You either have freedoms and the right to protest (the western ideal) or you don't. The reality is this is just a game and the politicians knew from the start they would need to allow a little bit of protest after the shutting down of liberty. They expected it, they have prepared for it and they have sat back and allowed a few days of backlash just to give the people some feeling of importance.

We all know that in reailty democracy is worth nothing more than a worthless vote every few years and being ignored the rest of the time. This and the stuff in europe, canada, US .... is all just panto season stuff.

My wish is people move on and make sure that no government can ever shut-down its country again, can never force medical treatment or create a two/three tier society. Sadly I have a feeling that wont be the case.

See, I find that very dismissive. Not everybody can afford to wait a few months. People have mortgages and car payments and hungry kids at home.

While I agree with your sentiment, the only reason that medical workers and teachers etc. were mandated was the greater good of the public.

I completely sympathise with these people, but I believe protection of the public the greater good here.

Happy Day

2020, Omicron is a gift from the virus gods, even Bill Gates, the #1 pandemic promoter, acknowledges that. Two years of lockdowns for all, for what exactly? Please be specific.

Try to be accurate. Lockdowns were a minor part of the last two years, where apart from 6 weeks at the start, most of the country were completely free most of the time.

Sure Omicron has given immunity to unvaccinated, but it has killed many. Omicron has killed 3 times as many people compared to Delta in Florida for instance.

Tell us how many lives were "saved" and how lockdowns for all were the only way to save them.

Well the UK has had 21,000% more deaths than New Zealand, so you could say that saved 11,300 people. But as I say, lockdowns weren't a big thing.

Note that one, very large Asian country had success against much-deadlier Delta without strict lockdowns. Please explain that one, too.

Not sure which country you are referring to. But as I say, NZ didn't have many strict lockdowns in the last 2 years.

My money is on the Maori. They know how to fight.

NZ is in a bad place right now. Most know COVID restrictions and mandates did little for public health,

Slowed the spread of the virus for one.

but plenty of harm for most of the population.

Like what?

They obviously don’t work as they have the time or savings to spend camping on public land. Or they are on a government paid pension of some sort and are bored. Really if you look at them it’s not like they have cared before what goes into their bodies. Some are probably on several medications, but a jab in the arm “that’s too much. I use that arm to manipulate doughnuts into my mouth” the resulting waist isn’t my problem. Ok I get it then eat it it’s less harmful than a jab …right ?

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Another crazy brainless country…the viruses are the enemy, not we humans to each other! I know they cannot understand that, but I tried to teach them anyway.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Hopefully the idiots will get the message before the last option but if they don't... Meh.

That message being? "if you don't comply with our arbitrary and authoritarian 'safety' measures, we will cause you physical harm and or death?"

That your response to that would be "...Meh" is pretty depressing and quite telling. Compliance with tyranny does not get you a pass when they come after you.

The election is fake and does not create a real representative leader. Omicron is the vaccine according to Billgates and problems exist only on TV. you have been brainwashed. why don't you take one more BS shot....

The election wasn't fake. I voted myself.

It did created a representative leader. A vast majority of New Zealanders agree with the policies.

Omicron have given some people immunity, but it is a dangerous way to get it. Look at Florida, Omicron has killed three times the number of people compared to Delta.

2 shots and a booster will give me long term immunity to Omicron and other variants.

I don't watch TV.

I haven't been brainwashed.
3 ( +10 / -7 )

NZ police, I'll help you out....

Give a warning to disperse, then water cannons followed by teargas and baton rounds and finally deadly force.

Hopefully the idiots will get the message before the last option but if they don't... Meh.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

These people just want their jobs back, their lives back, their freedom back.

if they work in the areas of highest risk of infection or spreading the infection, then all they need to do is get vaccinated with the safe effective vaccine.

there are still plenty of jobs around that dont require vaccination, theyre more than welcome to apply there. starting violent protests doesnt and wont give them the right to work in those areas,

Once the pandemic is over and covid mandates are lifted they can reapply then, cant wait find another job

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said this week she plans to begin easing virus mandates and restrictions once the peak of the current outbreak has passed.

Which was the plan all along with Omicron. It it would be stupid to ease restrictions while Omicron is surging.

So really, these protesters have been wasting their time, because the government will implement what they want in time anyway. And Omicron will determine that schedule.

I guess they wanted to feel important or noticed or something.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

people did not vote to mandate BS vaccination, this is against basic freedom right, it is normal that people fight for freedom,

she won the last election easily, vast majority of NZlanders are vaccinated and support vaccinations.

minority antivaxxers using violent protest wont win, you can be assured of that

7 ( +14 / -7 )

I have been watching this protest live. I was watching on Thursday, Feb 10th when the police attacked the peaceful protestors. By peaceful, I mean that the protestors were standing and singing, and then the police shoulder-barged them and ripped people out of the crowd, throwing them to the ground and jumping on them. Even then the protestors simply held onto each other and waited for the attacks to stop.

The man in this first picture was a peaceful protestor attacked by police as he stood outside a portaloo that police were hoping to block off to prevent protestors from using the toilet and therefore would force them to leave. I watched the video. The police had large shields and shoved this man and others up against the portaloos, then one officer gouged his thumb into the man's eye. Horrific and uncalled for police brutality. These people just want their jobs back, their lives back, their freedom back. I haven't been able to go back to my own country for 2 years, the government won't let me. I fully support these beautiful people's effort to give us our rights back. Check out LibertyBites.nz to see the real face of the protest.

Yes they did. They voted for Labour in a landslide election.

The mandates have already happened. It only affected healthcare workers and police etc. And they have all gotten vaccinated or left. It's done.

Easing of the vaccine passport restrictions, while cases are surging, would be folly. So it won't happen. But when NZ has gone through the Omicron surge and most people are boosted - for long term immunity, expect the vaccine passport restrictions to be dropped.

That’s not the way to regain dwindling public support. Throwing feces?

Sure, tell me all about something BLM did a year ago.

BLM just wants their race to be treated as equal citizens. Most of the 2020 violence was started up by white racist militia scum who infiltrated BLM protests. And they were under the command of the terrorist Caligula.

Protesters have even dug a vegetable garden, set up a daycare tent, and assembled makeshift showers as they signal their intent to stay for a long time.

During the unrest, on the other end of the spectrum there were 'no cop co-op' zones set up by modern day communards in Seattle, Boston and other cities. Fortunately the cops swept them away without a fight. these chumps appear to be trying the same, just like the boneheads did in Ottawa. They won't get too far.
