Is it winning when you're in the bunker and you have to put fences around your perimeter because a million of your citizens are outside demanding your resignation?
Mat
"Both pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault and were released without bail." This is not justice. This is the problem. While cops can assault people, on camera, with impunity; whereas a citizen would be held, prosecuted and convicted for the same action, there can be no freedom, no peace.

Today, I was by some stroke of luck, guided to re-watching the famous debate on race between James Baldwin and William F. Buckley Jr. at Cambridge back in 1965.
https://youtu.be/oFeoS41xe7w
https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2019/12/james-baldwin-william-f-buckley-debate/602695/
What struck me was just how much both men are reflected in today's crisis. Still, 55 years later, there is a huge percentage of the American population that feels like in the narrative of America, in the story that is the 'American dream,' they were left out.
As Baldwin stated:
And that feeling persists today. As do the counter arguments. Buckley aired out what were, at the time probably, fresh arguments. He would state that while there were 'some bad' white people, a few bad apples you might say, that the onus rested on black people to 'change.'
In other words, the same racist crap that's spewed today on these message boards. The same garbage that is said all over social media.
And certain posters will wonder why so many black Americans are tired of 'peaceful protest.' Because the same racist, garbage arguments of William F. Buckley are still used today.
Artemis Rogers
I have explained why they don't several times in several posts. Until someone like you who says this forms an actual movement such as White Lives Matter or All Lives Matter, then its clear that your actual stance is Blue Lives Matter and Blue Lies Matter.
One has to wonder if you are being dishonest to us or just to yourself considering all that has been said about all of this since George Floyd was murdered two weeks ago by four cops who say they could not properly restrain one man and get him into a police car, as if the American people paid them to be Judge Dredd over a fake 20 dollar bill.
But of course lets not forget Breonna Taylor, Atatiana Jefferson, Botham Jean or any other of the multitude of people murdered by barbaric and/or incompetent cops. Oh, and if I find it easier to remember the Black ones that's because Black people shouted their names while White people looked at the White ones and shrugged or figured the crazy cops deserved a free pass or something.

What we are witnessing with these ongoing protests is history in the making, perhaps more significant in their effectiveness than the anti-war demonstrations of the 1960s. Trump's smirking toady, Billy Barr, with his neo-fascist ideology (the "winners" write the history) has already earned his place in America's "Hall of Infamy". The protests of the people fueled by their tears of rage will continue as a rebuke and a slap in the face to the AG with his brazen attempts to undermine the constitutional rights of American citizens guaranteed by the First Amendment. Many Americans must fervently hope that the list of the crimes committed in office by Trump's consigliere will, after due process, see him consigned (with his boss) to a long custodial sentence. Trumpism will leave a bad aftertaste, but the courage of the people and the resilience of American democracy in rejecting a police-state will sweeten the memory of these days of wrath. Then the bitter sacrifice of George and a thousand others will not have been in vain.

Some will never see the real point. This is why we need these rallies.

@bass4funk You only bring ancient history into this because you want to continue to avoid recent history and today and don't want to wake up.

And are also mobilizing to express anger that:
Trump/Barr are undermining principles the republic was built on like the balance and separation of powers as they try to give Trump authority previously unseen (hence the presence of anti-fascist groups);
Trump/Barr etal are attacking the free press, rights to peacefully assemble and free speech;
Trump/Barr are trying to further divide the nation along race and class lines;
Trump/Barr are allowing 'foreign' states to meddle in US affairs, as long as they do so to benefit the far right;
Among other issues.
u_s__reamer
Good grief. Don't white, Asian or Hispanic lives matter?
Don't fret, the USA is a huge place with plenty of room for avenues, streets, squares and plazas to memorialize the victims on whose backs and sweat the country was built. Just be patient, real democratic values require time to mature and America is, let's hope, still growing and learning, or else it is dying.
lincolnman
Best of luck to the protesters....
Stay alert for the far-right, pro-Trump white supremacists who will try to infiltrate your ranks and instigate violence and mayhem....
They're doing it to impress their Sainted Leader and Grand Wizard - the one in the White House...

The corona virus seems to have been forgotten.
What ever happened to social distancing?
People recognize now, that there are much more important things in life that needs full attention, than this Virus.
lincolnman
Well, they must have fooled Attorney General Bill Barr and his Justice Dept since the article said they were being prosecuted on FEDERAL domestic terrorism charges...
Maybe you ought to share your views with Big Bill...
Artemis Rogers
Nobody is taking orders from you. Lead by example or put a sock in it.
lincolnman
Hmmmmm.... First you mock this group and say they don't exist. Then when pointed out that your team's Attorney General is prosecuting them, that flips to "great"... OK....
Yes, but he hasn't done that, has he? These were FAR-RIGHT domestic terrorists...
Likely just the tip of the iceberg...a white supremacist iceberg...
lincolnman
Do you? You said this group didn't exist until you found out Barr was prosecuting them...
So now you're dissing Barr? Saying he's prosecuting a fake group? OK...whatever you day...
lincolnman
How? By prosecuting a "fake" group you mocked just three posts up?
You either think he's a kook for getting duped into going after a "fake" group, or you think it's "great" he's prosecuting a far-right group from your team....
Which is it?

And the Trump administration throwing more racism gas on the fire...
President Donald Trump and his allies for years have amplified racist messages on Twitter while simultaneously reaching out to black and Hispanic voters, a dissonant balancing act that’s now rocking the GOP amid nationwide racial-justice protests.
*The two competing forces collided Saturday on the Twitter feed of *Trump campaign senior adviser Mercedes Schlapp, when she boosted a tweet that lauded a man in Texas in a viral video as he yelled the n-word and wielded a chainsaw to chase away anti-racism demonstrators.
Way to go Ms Schlapp - I'm sure you were just doing what your boss wanted....
lincolnman
Oh yea, watched it a couple of times - a crazed Trump supporter with a chain saw threatening peaceful protesters and using the n-word at the 18 second mark....
https://twitter.com/TheHousePlug_/status/1268972107347701763
Perfect thing for his Senior Campaign Adviser to tweet, right? Racial tensions high, a black man just murdered by the police - and she re-tweets a white supremacist rant....
The Trump 2020 campaign in a nutshell....
u_s__reamer
Kennedy wisely allowed MLK to "own" "The March on Washington" for the "doves" of non-violent protest. In contrast Trump doesn't have a clue how to "manage" the present crisis which he imagines is not about covid-19, George Floyd or police brutality and impunity, but only about himself and how strong he looks as a leader poised for a second term of MTGA and rally-crowd adulation.
MLK is remembered for "I have a dream". And DJT? "I have a tweet"?

Our brave Wartime President - stealing fence from the 3 new miles of border wall be's managed to complete in 3 years to keep a few elderly protesters from confronting him at the White House...
Grandma and Grandpa frighten this President so much he brings out the National Guard, strings up over a mile of fence, then retreats and hides in his bunker...

Some Americans, like me, think the issue is a policeman murdered Mr Floyd. To me the issue has nothing to with whether he was good, bad anything else. Maybe police don't murder civilians in your country. If so, you're lucky

I hope those are not yet more 'alternative facts'. But using pattern recognition principles, I speculate they might just be.
HJSLLS
The world has hit a tipping point. Societies are frustrated and demand an end to systemic discrimination. Yet we need to avoid nuance differences between “black lives matter” and “all lives matter.” Both are correct, but we have seen a disproportionate number of people who identify as African American being killed at the hands of police while unarmed and sometimes already in custody (as was the case with George Floyd). This strikes our sense as fairness and humanity. Let us leverage this movement to put an end to bigotry in all its forms. And to move away from stereotypes, profiling and over generalizations. Let’s begin to focus on the individual and treat each person with human dignity.
lincolnman
Can you believe this? This is Trump's 2020 Campaign Senior Adviser - re-tweeting a video of some pro-Trump white supremacist ranting on using the n-word and threatening peaceful protesters with a chain saw...
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/06/racist-boosted-by-trump-aide-mercedes-schlapp-race-protests-sweep-nation-304633

You just described yourself perfectly....maybe you should count your down-votes...

We should add this to the large list of grievances and injustices of the Trump administration...
*When the U.S. government’s official jobs report for May came out on Friday, it included a note at the bottom saying there had been a major “error” indicating that the unemployment rate likely should be higher than the widely reported 13.3 percent rate. The special note said that if this “misclassification error” had not occurred, the “overall unemployment rate would have been about 3 percentage points higher than reported,” meaning the unemployment rate would be about 16.3 percent for May. *

Question any information that comes from anywhere in this administration...it's likely been given the "Black Sharpie" treatment...

On a high tech note, to me a bigger worry is Trump/Barr unleashing some form of Lethal Autonomous Weapon on people they consider 'thug's, especially those not from their 'elite' economic class.
Troops face to face, live and in person pitted against their own countrymen might balk if things get overly hot.
But a systems operator perhaps a thousand miles away looking at a computer screen would probably more easily be able to fall back on the age old 'just following orders'.
Blacklabel
Yes, that social distancing and coronavirus just disappeared......as we were told would happen.

I wonder what it is about some rightists that makes them create imaginary enemies and then have those imaginary beings 'intentionally misinform' saying things like 'ultimate goals'. By the way, 'ultimate goals' sounds a bit similar to 'final solution', a term used by the far right's heroes. I can only think when they do so, they're unable to defend their belief system and the leaders of their belief systems.

glad to see you trust AG Barr now.
No way the federal government would create a new far right group and start arresting self proclaimed members. This wouldnt come in handy as a "we arrest both sides" narrative when liberals start screaming about the "unfairness" of arresting only Antifa.
Artemis Rogers
Because culturally Asians see tolerating abuse as a virtue.

Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti already proposes defunding the LAPD by $150M or more.
What will the Democrat's sweeping police reform package entail? Defunding and disarm the police to the point where they have a weakened force that can't effectively do their jobs? Ultimately disband and abolish the police altogether especially in the cities with large Black demographics?
The Democrats' ultimate goals is a lawless society where laws deemed "oppressive to blacks" are eliminated, illegal activities are decriminalized and the abolishing the police establishment.
Blacklabel
Antifa especially seem to have a problem with being unable to identify Hispanic Americans and claiming they are Nazis or white supremacists.

The corona virus seems to have been forgotten.
Three months lockdown and then mass demonstrations with people travelling large distances to attend.
Even as someone who thinks the coronavirus panic is overblown, this seems like a recipe for disaster.

I hope 1 million people do gather there. Just to put the final nail in the coronavirus narrative when no one gets sick 2 weeks later.

you didnt watch the video, did you?
Blacklabel
the man in the video isnt white. How are Hispanics now white supremacists too?
And what did you use to identify him as a Trump supporter?
You didnt watch it.

Can't believe all this mob hysteria, George Floyd has apparently been in jail five times not to mention he was an absent father. The mob is making a martyr out of a career criminal, he was in the process of committing another crime when the hard arrest went down, the officers have been arrested and charged the matter should have been left to the authorities.
Blacklabel
156 miles of border wall, and none of these protesters are "elderly".
The video shows no white supremacist as the person is Hispanic.
But keep spreading misinformation, just shows you have no credibility at all to speak truthfully.
Blacklabel
Yeah ok random dude on the internet,
BLM only cares about some Black lives. The ones whose deaths or whose public cases of inequal justice they can use to manipulate organizations, politicians and corporations into giving them money.
In return these are allowed to virtue signal off the BLM name. NFL, NBA, Nike, Amazon, Dem politicians are prime targets. LA Mayor said he will take 150 million from the police budget and give it to BLM.
The two black men, killed by looters, their lives dont matter because the person/group that killed them has no political or financial considerations to give.
bass4funk
No, I’m just saying as horrific Floyd’s death was, let us remember, blacks aren’t the only oppressed people, I’m not the one that’s needs to wake up.
bass4funk
They wouldn’t go anywhere near the place, but the racist liberal media has full access.

Meanwhile, meet the brand new, ultra violent, far right, media creation, the Boogaloo Bois.
Came into existence on May 30, 2020 with a Wikipedia page after being a joke on 4chan for a while.
Their leader, I guess, as there are only 2 of them- arrested for the violent crime of throwing a water bottle at police and being in possession of a dangerous weapon.......no, actually a Hawaiian shirt.
Becasue the Boogaloo Boys identify themselves to others by wearing Hawaiian shirts. I would say you cant make up something this ridiculous, but someone did.
Blacklabel
My views to Attorney General Bill Barr are- Great, they should be investigated and prosecuted under the law.
But I dont want to hear you start crying here when Antifa is treated the same way.
Blacklabel
I was talking about these guys
https://www.foxnews.com/us/2-affiliated-with-boogaloo-extremist-group-charged-with-inciting-a-riot-sc-sheriff
After all we have seen people not get arrested for doing, this Ackley idiot gets arrested for throwing a water bottle and having a flag and a Hawaiian shirt?
Blacklabel
Not these guys:
"In Las Vegas, on Wednesday, federal prosecuotors charged three men who identified themselves as boogaloos with planning to incite violence at a George Floyd protest in the Nevada city."
Yep, just conveniently identified themselves as something that didnt exist 2 weeks ago. Well at least AG Barr is handling it the same way he will handle Antifa when the time comes. equal justice under the law.
Halwick
Well, I hope these new protests won't erupt into more looting, vandalizing and burning when the police leaves the scene.
I went back to see what has and hasn't changed since the 1960s. Here's an excerpt from Malcolm X's 1962 speech on Police Brutality. Nothing has really changed. Fifty-eight years later the blacks still feel oppressed and brutalized.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_uYWDyYNUg
He stated: "If he's (the white man) not ready to clean his house up... If he's not ready to clean his house up, he shouldn't have a house. It should catch on fire and burn down."
What does Malcolm X mean by "house"? Does "house" mean the white man's laws and the (white man) police who enforces those laws? Does he mean the white man's laws that prohibits activities that many blacks are arrested for?
And the way to "get the oppression and exploitation away from us is to come together" and protest, riot, loot, vandalize and burn (the white man's house) as their right?
The root cause of the black people's problems is they believe they have the right to do whatever they want to do regardless of the law. They believe the U.S. Constitution and the laws derived form are the "white man's laws" and that such laws are oppressive and exploitive. Therefore, they don't believe in obeying the white man's oppressive laws. When the police enforces the laws, it is "police brutality and oppression".
The only "Justice" that the Black community and activists will accept is (1) the right to do what they want to do; (2) immunity from the (white man's) laws; (3) abolish the (white man's) police; and (4) reparation for the 300+ years of slavery and oppression.
Why is that Asians-Americans don't have a problem with the laws and the police who enforce them in the manner that Blacks do? Why aren't they rioting?
Blacklabel
Its also a great strategy to get Antifa to think they are safe.
While the government continues to read the messages in their Telegram groups and put together the organization/funding part, no matter how loose.
I dont see many Antifa in the streets since the Barr announcement, lets see how it goes tonight.
Mr Kipling

Jewish people have been oppressed way longer.
We can talk about the Spanish Inquisition, the Armenian Genocide, let’s talk about the Irish, the Scottish....
Then they shouldn’t vote for people that keep them oppressed and dependent on big government.
That won’t happen until the end of the human race. But if these people want to continue their carnage, they will always lose because people with money, we always have the final word, we can always relocate.
Blacklabel
who is shouting the names of those murdered by the looters and protesters? Say their names too, as their Black Lives also mattered. When is their multi day funeral tour all over the USA starting? Are all the Dem politicians, civil rights leaders and "celebrities" coming?
Black people are not so naive to not understand what is going on here. Its not about black lives at all, but white politicians. Make me feel more special than anyone else, for my vote. Then once you get in office, do nothing for me. All these problems should have been fixed during the EIGHT years of the first black president and his "youaintblack" VP.
bass4funk
Doesn't matter, but the crowds seem to be swelling up to be bigger than his inauguration as well.
Serrano
Look at that mob. What ever happened to social distancing?
bass4funk
No, fascism goes way back to the Roman days, this is nothing new. The mob can’t sit and dictate who is guilty and who is not and who should be charged or prosecuted. The mob might not understand this, but we do have a legal process that needs to be followed and vigilantism is not and should never be the deciding factor, no if we disband the police, it just might.
No, if and as long as they do it lawfully, they can, but the WH has to be cautious in allowing this given the fact that so many thugs across the country were destroying cities and property, rioting and looting, of course the WH is deeply cautious, can’t blame them.
No, that would be liberals and the media, not one mention of the blacks that have lost business due to the violence, destruction, rioting and looting from these lawless thugs, the murder of police officers and innocent people, they only thing they’re focused on and encourage and downplay are these people, everyone else that lost their lives, bystanders and their livelihoods, who cares, but these people will once the smoke clears and reality sets back in.
But when the Democrats deal with a former British spy in order gather information on the President, that’s not meddling with a foreign state?

They caused damage across the country? They shot, rioted and looted?
BLM usually is looking for trouble, they already called in the past of killing the cops, so peaceful resolution is not their typical MO.
