Ha ha! Have you ever looked at a map of the Qing empire at its fullest extent? - all of Russia's access to the Pacific was Chinese. Do you think that China has not forgotten this? - not for a moment!
Russian reliance on China will come at a price.

Russia's best choice for its future has always rested on cooperation with all of Europe. Instead its desire to rule Europe has now positioned it to being China's lapdog and China didnt even need to conquer it. Russia has voluntarily walked into this relationship.
Soon enough those in Russia who still value Russian independence will realize their mistake and will need to "eat some crow" and cosy up to Europe and America to wrest it out of China's iron grasp.
Putin has more to worry about than Ukraine, or NATO. It is about to become the property of China. And once China owns you, you can never go back.

The relationship between China and Russia is equal and fair, they are like brothers that has equal of rights and dignity. China is not a vassal state or vice versa, unlike US and her so called "Allies", using Russophobia or Sinophobia to scare others to make them comply. Russia needs Chinese made industrial products and China buys massive Russian oil and raw materials, weapons, Uranium...etc.
A suggestion is to create an Eurasia QUAD with nuclear arsenals: Russia, China,North Korea and Belarus to counter US and her running dogs military expansion, we need to work together,to fight !

Russian schools might as well as start teaching classes in Chinese.
Good job Vlad.

But the anti-west extremists will continue to claim Putin is 'smart, savvy and strong', and also mention that the leader of the rusting gas station of a nation provides cheap fuel for their pickups, and ammo for the multitude of weapons in their personal arsenals. USAmericans backing Putin and supporting his US politicians are in fact backing China.

Seems China is getting stronger despite the media trying hard to portray the opposite.
First US officials flocking to China to pay homage and now Russia
There was news recently about South Korea and Japan also

The "China" during the Manchurian empire (1644-1912) was run by Manchurians and the emperors at that time were not Chinese, they were Manchu. They don't represent Chinese. They were overthrown by revolution leader: "Dr.Sun Yat-San" . The Manchu lands were lost by Manchurian to Imperial Russia, nothing to do with the Chinese!

@OA Many people are learning Chinese voluntarily. You should give it a shot. It's a fun language to learn and if you have a decent grasp of Kanji you have an important head start.

China used the Americans to counter the Soviets who were a bigger threat to them during the Cold War.
Now they are using Russians to counter the Americans.
The Chinese since medieval times consider other nations as 'barbarians' and themselves as the 'Tianxia' or All Under Heaven so their strategy of playing off one against the other is consistent with their xenophobia.

Putin is guilty on one thing: enjoying rockstar-style status in China.

China’s probably using Iran as a middleman to supply Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine.

Pull the other one. China has never acknowledged equals and Russia is only there out of desperation.

Vlad is becoming Xi’s lackey. Smooth move

Nothing is more of a running dog than the average citizen of China except perhaps the average citizen of Russia now.

so many experts on geopolitics.... if only you lot were in charge..... we'd be in just as much of a mess as we are now! (^_-)

China has Putin wrapped around their finger.

While this article covers the upcoming visit to China and the incredible growth of bilateral trade - the second half of it is an opinion piece of someone somewhere opining what they think.

American and western arms and cash are being dumped with reckless abandon in Ukraine. Of course Russia is supporting its war effort with foreign trade! Its normal! Its not a sign of weakness. Russia has taken the sanctions we were promised would stop Russia and is at the very least holding its own.
Meanwhile the other half of the narrative was that Russia was going to invade Europe. What a joke. It was often the same people floating both ridiculous and mutually exclusive narratives at the same time!
Ukraine cannot win this war on their terms. The people blocking peace negotiations know this, but their fortunes are build on innocent human blood even more than Putin himself! They don't want this to stop and that includes Biden who will face more scrutiny over Burisma when it does. Lloyd Austin, U.S. Secretary of WAR, with his massive Raytheon stock holdings certainly does want it to end!
Decent people call out all sides of this war. But the worst of them all the American war profiteers and their puppets blocking all chances for peace!

North Korea is nothing. Belarus? A joke. They have as many nukes as I have and maybe less military might.

Putin always wanted good relations with Europe, but the US never allowed Europe to go along with it. Now Europe is paying a heavy price.
Fighto!
"Rockstar status"? LOL. A 70-something, bald, sickly midget who is always shaking has "rockstar status" in China?
Chinese must have a very low bar!
Murderous Chairman Xi and Mini-me Putin : a marriage made in hell.
happyhere
How on earth do the authors know why China chose this position? No evidence is given.
theFu
But are Putin and Xi writing "love letters?"
When your words and actions alienate possible friends, you are left with only those people desperate for any friends to talk with.

I'm not aware of any European countries that genuinely liked Russia except for the, shall we say, more vacillating Western European countries needing to do some eye poking at the US. The Eastern Europeans have hated Russia since the end of WW2. Also Russia could have gotten to the back of the line to join NATO but instead they wanted special treatment.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Yes, to defeat a barbarous invasion.
The thugs in the Russian government speculate about further moves west all of the time. Since NATO has been too generous in not loading up the Baltics with troops and weapons, there is a reasonable fear that Putin could risk a little nuclear war to do some quick grabbing like the animal he is.
Russia can't really win it either unless you define winning down to holding their scraps of territory.
Nonsense. Nobody has more blood on their hands than Putin at this point. 10 million displaced by that sick man.
But my Burisma!!!!!! You sound like a trump.er.
I suppose you thought munitions were going to be manufactured at Ford?
Decent people want Russia defeated and back in its cage.
Peace can only come when imperialist Putin is completely humbled.
UChosePoorly
In the West, we have actual Rock Stars. Sanctions are working.
Strangerland
Of course he's dependent on China. This whole war started because Xi commanded Putin to invade Ukraine, and Putin agreed because he thought he could use China's backing to encroach Russian territory on NATO borders. If Xi hadn't commanded it, Putin wouldn't have had the guts to invade himself. This was all a dry-run for China's invasion of Taiwan.
