China's eyes are on Siberia as Russia weakens.

Nothing like a fascist ceremony for a fascist pair.

It’s a shame that such powerful men as these favor violence to deal with their smaller neighbors.

Yes, and it's an even bigger shame and a disgrace after all the human lives destroyed by the whims of Hitler, Stalin and Mao, just to name three egregious examples among many more, that in 2023 it is still possible for some leaders of a country to kill with impunity. Why can't our world wake up and put an end once and for all to these basest of all criminals.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

By separatists, do you mean 300,000 forcibly mobilized Russians, and 10s of thousands of convicts, thrown in the front line? They are rapidly being depleted, with no replacements coming soon. Let's see what the next few months bring.

Zelensky had the entire winter to reverse those gains using 100 billion in NATO weapons.

He couldn't find a weak point anywhere along the 1000 km front, despite the assurances that the separatists are demoralized, ill equipped and poorly trained.

The facts on the ground have essentially been settled, the Russian speaking areas are not going to live under Kiev rule again.

Not only China. You all opened your mouth for the Russia's resources.

Yes, perhaps Kuku, but like all developing countries, Russia has only resources to sell. But, expect China to find some ancient text in a peasant's attic showing a centuries-old claim to most of eastern Siberia with a few dashed lines on it when "no-limits" friend, Putin, is on his last legs. Neither of these countries or leaders have friends.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Quercetum - the eventual truth is likely somewhere in the middle as with most things. People vote with their feet, so if we see a stampede into or out of these two countries over the next 5-10 years, then we will know which of these two polar predictions were closer to accurate.

Putin hailed China's proposals for a political settlement and a cease-fire in Ukraine, saying that it could serve as a basis for a peaceful settlement “once the West and Kyiv are ready for it.”

I wonder if AWC Vlad has read any of the 12 points in Xi's cunning plan?

1. Respecting the sovereignty of all countries.

Invading your neighbour isn't very respectful, Vlad.

2. Abandoning the Cold War mentality.

So, everything that goes wrong for russia is not NATO's fault. 'The West' is not ganging up on poor little russia.

3. Ceasing hostilities

This one isn't difficult. Stop attacking, go home.

6. Protecting civilians and prisoners of war (POWs).

As in, not torturing civilians in occupied territories, not shooting civilians and leaving their bodies in the streets, not shelling evacuation routes, not raping women, children and grannies. Not blowing up homes, school, hospitals.

7. Keeping nuclear power plants safe.

As in, don't churn up the mud around Chernobyl. Don't turn Zaphorizhzhia into a military base.

8. Reducing strategic risks.

This point states clearly, The threat or use of nuclear weapons should be opposed. Are you listening, Vlad?

The plan could serve as a basis for a settlement once AWC Vlad reads, understands and is ready for it.

So basically your argument is that because Ukraine hasn't taken back Crimea right now, it is losing? Patience my friend. They're not going to launch an offensive in the mud like Russia did last year.

The facts on the ground have essentially been settled, the Russian speaking areas are not going to live under Kiev rule again.

Could be a narrow strip of novorossiya left before this is done, like 2014 area in Donbass only.

@u_s_reamer

Amen, brother!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Well, ROC did intend to take back the mainland from PRC, so there might be some reasons for concerns...

The PRC is almost 100x the population of Taiwan. Even the crappy mercantilist economics the PRC is practicing now can't make that a fair fight.

We can all rest assured where China stands on the war in Ukraine now. Russia and China are going to decrease in power over the next five to ten years due to their partnership.

2 ( +11 / -9 )

Why didn't Putin invite his other partners Kim and the Ayatollah? Also where are their anti-west cheerleaders Trump and DeSatan?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

China has got the things she needed through the Ukraine war. Oil,coal,LPG

...time for more tariffs then. 200% on products made using Russian energy, or Chinese forced labour out of Xinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia...

2 ( +7 / -5 )

The Leviathan Xitin controlling oil, coal,LPG, plus uranium will push the clocks (nuclear war and climate change) even closer to midnight, and the anti-west conservative extremists along with western conservatives everywhere will continue to cheer them on.

Putin and Xi wrapped up the day with a state dinner in the 15th-century Palace of Facets that served as a banquet hall for the czars.

What an opulent and grandiose spectacle. The two guys that are gunna save the world from western democracy. Hope that champagne and caviar tasted good fellas. I’m not exactly sure that the intended message you are sending to the world is the one that we are receiving though.

Putins North Koreanesque tour of the brand spanking new kiddies playground and empty theatre in Mariupol the other day was just ghoulish. Emperor Xi at the helm also a particularly nice look to add to the theatrics. One positive takeaway is that it does serve the purpose of reuniting what was a fragmented West and free world. For that we will be eternally grateful.

History doesn’t repeat per se, but it certainly does rhyme.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Lol, Chabbawanga. Ok, I will bite. How have your current US Overlords prevented you from living your life as you wish? Please be specific.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Russia and China are going to decrease in power over the next five to ten years due to their partnership.

They very likely to increase. They’ve settled their territory disputes decades ago and have more than 2700 projects developing Eastern Russia.

There are two ideas that are contradictory. One is that the CCP is getting to powerful and must be stopped before they take over the world. This is before Biden pushed Russia and China together.

The other is that the CCP is hopelessly incompetent and is about to collapse. The best and and brightest believe both which tells you something about their brightness.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

While Mr. Kishi, the Japanese prime minister visits President Zelenskyy and goes to Bucha

Xi goes to Moscow to meet PUTAin.

This alone says it all!

The free world stands together, stronger than ever,

while 2 dictators make plans how to commit more genocide in thir respective countries!

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Biden will need to get tougher with the Chinese to remind them the West is watching their actions with a beady eye. Otherwise, this steaming "bromance" of Vlad and Xi has no personal significance for Biden whereas for Trump, who takes everything personal, it's turned him into "the third wheel", another blow to his amour-propre coming in a week when more wheels of his bus are about to fall off.

Countries, companies, and individuals trade in each other’s currencies all the time and that’s a good thing.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

China is not going to invade Taiwan. The saber-rattling like clock work is in response to US arm sales or talks of Taiwanese independence. Not ruled out of course but China is different from Russia in this regard. Taiwanese anti-war scholars have called for Taiwan to maintain “equidistant relationships” between China and the U.S. while issuing a list of four demands including redirecting Taiwan’s military budget to climate change mitigation and social welfare.

If China is not going to invade Taiwan, then it doesn't need to give a damn what Taiwan does with its military budget. It should all be going to killing the maximum number of invaders now anyways.

Dollar transactions and the weaponizing of financial systems. Dealing in non-dollar or even a BRICs currency frees you from US sanctions and leverage.

As soon as BRICS have one let us know. They wouldn't even be able to decide on what murderous dictator to put on it.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I do not comprehend what possible advantage Xi will gain from a close association with Putin, other than access to cheap petroleum. Russia is quickly descending into third-world status, due to Putin's corruption and mismanagement of the country. Other than both being dictators, what do they have in common?

If, and it is looking like an unlikely if, Xi would simply try to cooperate with his Western trading partners, his country's economy would inevitably ascend to being the strongest in the world, which would result in tremendous resources becoming available to things like the military and science programs. Instead, Xi is choosing to abandon his country's close trading ties with the West, in favor of an illogical alliance with the failed state of Russia. Like the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the direction Xi is steering China makes no sense.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Only Russia can provide the necessary materials that China can continue wars against hostile neighbours who has American aggressors stationing or protecting on their soil.

Sounds like an accurate description of China's peaceful rise.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

If China is not going to invade Taiwan, then it doesn't need to give a damn what Taiwan does with its military budget.

Well, ROC did intend to take back the mainland from PRC, so there might be some reasons for concerns...

What a horrible spectacle. Wasn't Xi proposing himself as a global peacemaker?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

China is NOT invading Taiwan but liberation of that island.

Liberating the island of it's inhabitants is an invasion... especially when they don't want you there.

Chinese dreams will turn to nightmares soon enough.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

China is NOT invading Taiwan but liberation of that island. Taiwan is not a legitimate country recognised in the United Nations . Taiwan is like the Confederate states against the Union in the American Civil war. After the unification, the supreme leader (Maybe XI or his successor)is the "Abraham Lincoln of China"!

Perhaps Taiwan would like to liberate PLA/PLN members of their burdensome mortal shells. They would be justified in doing so in your view.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Xi is choosing to abandon his country's close trading ties with the West

China has publicly stated that they wish to move to a more internal economy and not rely on exports. I guess we can now see why.

I believe that the Russian invasion was meant to draw the west into a European conflict as China moves into the Pacific. If true then this is not playing out how they wanted it to.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Quercetum - This is some conspiracy theory type stuff. I knew that you tended to favor Russia and China over the west, but I thought you were above this kind of nonsense.

Sure, I agree. Let's just stick with the facts. China and other countries; Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran, wish to be free from US sanctions and that's reasonable. Countries have started transactions in yuan and rubles and other non-dollar currencies in order to avoid the seizing and freezing of their assets. It's not so much as having the freedom to deal in currencies or being forced to deal in US dollars

It's not the US forbidding countries from dealing in other currencies.

but the fact that the assets are in dollars and they need to be protected. If you're on a boat and there's a huge storm coming, your comment is along the lines that every boat has the freedom to navigate to safer waters. My comment is that they are doing so because they see this pattern of storms; and that can be better done in a multi-polar world.

I knew that you tended to favor Russia and China

It may appear to be about Russia and China but it's in other parts of the world as well. Europe has devised a system called INSTEX, which can be used to by-pass SWIFT. The reason INSTEX was developed was to enable European countries to trade with Iran. The US has seized control of this Belgian organization and forces it to open its records to the US Treasury to see if any country is “violating” US sanctions, in quotes because the US has no authority to do so. And so no, I do not agree with your opinion tha the US is forbidding countries from dealing in other currencies.

quercetum - I was actually referring to people, not companies.

When commentators refer to the Multi-polar world, they are referring to the nations' liberation from US politics, intervention, sanctions and the freezing of assets. They are probably not referring to the "people" and their civil liberties or their residential prefererences.

The irony here in this goal to move away from the dollar is that the US is the instigator itself by administering the sanctions and freezing of assets. It is shooting itself in the foot or to put it bluntly, Biden is hurting the US by doing so. So the sanctions failed to collapse Russia but we weren't expecting them to collapse US banks.

All this boils down to the fact that if the US freezes Chinese assets, this will be another step toward a loss of credibility for the dollar. The Treasury bond is a contract between the buyer, such as China, and the US. There is no clause in this contract that allows for the contract to be broken. If the US refuses to comply with its end of the contract, using whatever excuse it may come up with — COVID-19 or Taiwan or whatever — then the US is the defaulting party and will suffer a loss of credibility among perspective investors. China is not interested in the US losing its credibility. China is interested in not losing its dollar assets.

Is the interpreter okay?

Camping now.

Moscow, which doesn’t recognize the court’s jurisdiction

The U.S. doesn’t recognize the ICC and neither does China. Superpowers are disinclined to surrender sovereignty to an international body they do not control.

The crime if any is the stopping substantial military aid the U.S. Congress determined to be in America’s national interest from reaching its intended recipient. No man should be above his country’s laws.

Zelensky had the entire winter to reverse those gains using 100 billion in NATO weapons.

The weapons they have received, like the himars and javelin have been exceptionally useful, just wait for the rest to arrive ;)

He couldn't find a weak point anywhere along the 1000 km front, despite the assurances that the separatists are demoralized, ill equipped and poorly trained.

For someone who doesn't believe in the propaganda, you sure seem to repeat a lot of it. As for the recent Russian mobilization of 400k troops, It sure has helped Russia gain ground, oh wait...

It is neither. As you say, it is in the middle; there won’t be a “stampede” in or out. Buick, Proctor & Gamble, John Deere, Apple, Tesla aren’t leaving. JP Morgan has been in China since 1921. Its exports percentage of gdp is only 20% and the U.S. share of that 20% is only 3%. Decoupling won’t do it not to mention it’s u realistic .

and if course enriched Uranium from Russia. Is this a bad deal to praise Mr.Putin ?

It is after lithium in Iran and trying to go green.

Is the US-led World order is finally coming to an end?

Hopefully our new overlords, whoever they may be, will just let us get on with our lives.

China can continue wars against hostile neighbours

What war is China currently in?

Countries, companies, and individuals trade in each other’s currencies all the time and that’s a good thing.

No, the US has gone to war over this. You think they want oil to be traded in Euros or gold or yuan? Venezuela, Libya, Iraq, China. Start trading in non-dollars and you will discover you have human rights issues in your country.

He might be slightly biased now

China can do more to help Russia fighting back NATO, sending a squadron of stealth fighter to Leningrad and flew combat patrol over the Baltic Sea. If Russia is in danger, China is also in danger!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Take care, dear friends. That’s also what I would say, if anyone tries to mislead and sees or propagates here a weak Putin or a weak Russia, but instead a very strong China with Putin as a little doggie at the lead. Of course there’s no other interpretation possible than that Putin has regained the leadership in the other global block. It begins with the sequence of the visit, he has called Xi to Moscow, not Xi has called Putin to Beijing. Second, he showed former Imperial lifestyle to him and generosity etc. That’s not what someone does who run out of power, money, is in need of weapons etc. And finally, although China before made that peace or negotiations proposals and slightly criticized Putin about that Ukraine war , neither of both could be heard at this meeting or during the banquet etc. Whatever the reality might be on the grounds, in reality or at the war front, but politically there’s just no room for a misinterpretation like Putin is weak and China the boss of Russia. That’s not the case and there are still no indicators for that.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

quercetum - I was actually referring to people, not companies.

Many have immigrated but the trend is changing. Higher salaries and lower cost of living at home. Your question from the other day before the thread was disabled:

Countries would be free to join the US or apply to join BRICS like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Mexico or play the field like Japan.

How is that different from today?

Dollar transactions and the weaponizing of financial systems. Dealing in non-dollar or even a BRICs currency frees you from US sanctions and leverage.

It’s a shame that such powerful men as these favor violence to deal with their smaller neighbors.

a disgrace after all the human lives destroyed by the whims of Hitler, Stalin and Mao

I always wondered why the US never took more credit for the success of their two decade plus embargo against China that led to famine and failed polices killing millions. You got the CCP leader to do what the embargo was designed to do: let them kill themselves.

What do you mean?! How exactly did the west push Ukraine into a fight with Mother Russia?! Did Ukraine invade Russia?!

Instead of going to a restaurant and getting take out, I can have an Uber cyclist bring food to me. It saves me time and time is money. Instead of sending your own troops to fight and losing lives of your own military, you can pay money and fund groups of insurrectionists that will do the fighting for you. I am just suprised the US hasn't created an app for that yet.

Biden will need to get tougher with the Chinese to remind them the West is watching their actions with a beady eye.

It's worthy to note that the invasion and military operation took place under Biden's watch. Under the previous administration, Russia and US had a balance more advantageous to the US. Biden's admin is no specialist in foreign affairs. He's undoing what Nixon and Kissinger did back in the days.

1. Respecting the sovereignty of all countries.

Invading your neighbour isn't very respectful, Vlad.

2. Abandoning the Cold War mentality..........

cleo, evidently you are of those impartial people who knows the story "from the both sides"....

It is not simple sarcasm, it's regret that you live behind an impenetrable information wall.

Apparently, this is the reason why you are not heard on the Russian side. Your statement is ridiculous

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Russia is the only country deserve China's respect and sacrifice of lives to protect. Only Russia can provide the necessary materials that China can continue wars against hostile neighbours who has American aggressors stationing or protecting on their soil.

Right now China is building massive number of ICBM silos and dozens of SLBMs, all these ballistic missiles were nuclear warhead loaded. And that requires massive amounts of Uranium. And only Russia can provides such massive amounts of war materials. This is a risk which deserve us to risk for. "XI" is right, the West has no will for peace, they are playing dirty games on Russia now and later on China!
