The gun crowd will say an A380, a BMW, a can of kerosene or a fist can also be used to kill, which is true, but ignores the fact that a firearm is used in most US homicides.

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_8_murder_victims_by_weapon_2008-2012.xls

The gun groups will say that it’s poverty, discrimination, race conflicts, mental health among others that create problems leading to homicide, and no doubt they have a point. But the reality is a firearm is used in most homicides in the US.

The gun groups will say the US constitution, written in the 1790’s using the language of that time, contains an amendment that still pertains today and mustn’t be changed. It’s highly doubtful, however, those who approved the amendment anticipated private arsenals of automatic weaponry. (This same constitution considered slaves to be 3/5 of a person; in 1868 an amendment was written to change that. The constitution also ignored the indigenous peoples.)

The US constitution is a man-made document, which I think is brilliant, that reflected a reality that no longer pertains. It can be changed, but the gun crowd intimidates any opposition. And they are well armed and I have no doubt they would use their arms to protect their shooting rights. Or wrongs.

The people who profit most from guns, the gun manufacturing and sales industries, see more guns bought whenever there’s a violent flareup, which in the US seems to becoming an almost everyday occurrence.

The gun business’s enormously powerful lobbying groups spend hundreds of millions to ensure the continued profitability of their rich clients, while thousands more people are killed by guns each year.

And the well-armed gun owner groups threaten ‘come and take it’ to those who question their interpretation of man-made fictions and beliefs in their cultural myths. Google (or Duckduckgo if you don’t want to be tracked) “open carry” “come and take it” to learn about those who want to keep the 18th century alive.

Eric Hoffer wrote a book called The True Believer about the psychology of mass movement followers. To me - in principle - the US come and take it gun crowd is similar to the extremists, the fanatics, of any religion or political belief the gun crowd claims they want to protect themselves from.

the stars on the american flag no longer represent the states - they represent the bullet and shrapnel holes of a country that has never gotten over it's wild west mentality....

So, there's this device specifically designed for a purpose, and when successfully used for the purpose for which is was designed, suddenly has nothing to do with the end it was created and used for?

That makes perfect sense. If you are a moron.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Most Democrats favor making it harder for people to purchase firearms while most Republicans oppose that idea.

The NRA owns the Shia-Tea. Get over it.

One good slaughter equals one good run of selling more guns. That the business plan. Slaughter followed by gun sales.

Why break a consistent pattern that has delivered billions to gun manufactures? That's the Capitalism of Slaughter. Americans just can get enough of a gun fire sale on slaughter.

kcjapan

It's not about money; its about madness.

Gun nuts a f*&^ing crazy.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Blk Sab: Good on ya for thinking it's madness.

Actually breeding madness, in the form of these loony tunes murders, is the bait and switch marketing plan behind the NRA. One good slaughter gets 10,000 gun sales and 100,000 idiots who think their gun will stop the next loony. A cycle of kill and be killed.

Switzerland issues every adult a gun and trains them how to use it, and thus has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world, with 45.7 guns per 100 residents, ranking below only the United States, Serbia, and Yemen. As for gun-related crime in general, a 2001 BBC article reported that in Switzerland "the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept."

Perhaps America's problems are much deeper.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Yes America has a much deeper problem. With the USA being a wealthy industrialized nation it has icredibly much more violence than other nations in that category. To much divisions always confused me. Country, states, counties, towns, sections..... Same with religions, we have them all. Then we have social classes which is shared in other nations.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Perhaps America's problems are much deeper.

Perhaps. And if America's problems are much deeper, it would make sense to not let them have guns.

In December 2012, a shooter killed 20 1st-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. With the stunning massacre still fresh and Democrats controlling the Senate, lawmakers voted the following April on a bipartisan proposal to require background checks of all firearms purchasers at gun shows and on the Internet.

It failed.

The NRA wins again. 20 (children) 1st-graders and six educators (who loved those children) at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown lose (dead to protect the Second Amendment). VICTORY! FREEDOM! Sell more guns! That the America the NRA wants and the Shia-Tea will create. FREEDOM!!

Tantrum , Cool down , Guns don't kill evil soul does so

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Q: What about the House?

A: That GOP-run chamber didn’t even have votes on major gun restrictions after Newtown.

This year, it is controlled by Republicans with their largest margin in decades. And with conservatives having just pressured House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican to unexpectedly retire, the new leadership team will have little incentive to consider allowing votes on gun curbs.

Hardly a tantrum. The US Shia-Tea will continue to kill Americans in their schools and welcome the campaign dollars of the NRA. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just dead children after all. Why should anyone care when there's so much Freedom being protected that kills six year olds in their schools? FREEDOM!!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Shame on you anti-business bleeding-heart liberals!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

We choose freedom. With freedom comes responsibility to build a safe society. Freedom to own guns must be tempered with common sense gun laws that protect the public. Clearly, changes in gun ownership are required to reduce gun deaths.

We choose capitalism. With capitalism comes responsibility to regulate business to address public safety. The NRA choses to put the gun industry before public safety. This is not in the public interest. The gun industry wants to sell more guns. At this time, the gun industry and the NRA are controlling elected officials who write gun laws. This is not in the public interest.

We elect representatives who enact our laws. Do your homework. Vote for representatives who favor common sense guns laws that will reduce preventable gun deaths.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Gun supporters mostly look at these incidents, shrug, and say, "Oh well."

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Good thing your not a Yank kc or if you are your an expat. Disconnected from the USA reality. Very inaccurate statements and insulting to the majority of the USA. Lots of hate from liberals it seems. People who hate people tend to hurt people.

If you were Chinese and said similar comments in china you would disappear.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The NRA owns the Shia-Tea. Get over it.

You mean like the same way Planned Parenthood owns the DNC cowards?

One good slaughter equals one good run of selling more guns. That the business plan. Slaughter followed by gun sales.

But selling baby parts, NO outcry, right?

Why break a consistent pattern that has delivered billions to gun manufactures? That's the Capitalism of Slaughter. Americans just can get enough of a gun fire sale on slaughter.

This is what gets me with you libs, the hypocrisy just knows NO bounds with you guys. You want and condemn, vilify guns or gun supporters and yet, when the DNC and 177 Dems vote for infanticide and the sale of baby parts, not a word and I think it's disturbing as well as sickening. Also, why is there NO outcry against the liberal Dems that support the NRA or are against gun control, like Harry Reid? This is the very reason why Dems are just at a loss of their entire purpose and are all over the map, because they can never seem to decide where they want to be consistent.

Gun supporters mostly look at these incidents, shrug, and say, "Oh well."

Because they learned a lot from the Dems, to care is irrelevant, sucks when that shoe is on the other foot, right?

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Makes no sense to me.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The US constitution allowing people owning guns to monitor the government to prevent tyranny. Good! Very good indeed! These mass shootings and these blood were a price has prepared to pay for the above idea.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Some Love the Hypocrisy of Loving their Children.

After all, bad argument, sad recrimination, isn't it all about these children, slaughtered, in their schools?

When will it stop? Never? Is the future a prison for children?

After all doesn't anyone care at the seat of Government? The US response is a fraud. Dead kids? Who Cares? Dead SIX YEAR OLDS? WHO CARES?! (the gop-shia-tea took NO action)

Anywho. There you have it. Hypocrisy, old school. Not to be nasty, what are you suggesting complainer about 'libs'?

ps. we still respect you as a human being, you'll need to provide proof, of course

Jeb! - the probable standard-bearer for the GOP, when asked about the shootings, said:

Look, stuff happens, there’s always a crisis. And the impulse is always to do something and it’s not necessarily the right thing to do.

He will likely be pilloried for what some would see as incredibly insensitive remarks (those "some" including fathers who lost daughters, wives who lost husbands), but he speaks the truth, at least from the conservative perspective. So nothing will be done; I mean, if Sandy Hook was not sufficient incentive, what ever will be? "Get used to it" is the de facto GOP response.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I may be wrong, but I don't think it will be Jeb or Hillary in the election Laguna.

He's right though, the problem was the person behind the trigger. With all the surveillance we have in our lives now they didn't pick this guy out as...questionable? He just as easily could have rammed a speeding car care into a crowd. Or fire is effective and terrifying. A pressurized water fire extinguisher filled with a flammable liquid is just as deadly.

The US constitution allowing people owning guns to monitor the government to prevent tyranny. Good! Very good indeed! These mass shootings and these blood were a price has prepared to pay for the above idea

Quick break down: logic mass shootings and these blood were a price has prepared to pay for the above idea

Complete error. Random killing isn't 'monitoring government'

Thanks for the opportunity to suggest that.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Most Democrats favor making it harder for people to purchase firearms while most Republicans oppose that idea.

That's because law abiding republicans don't go around their middle class / upper-middle class neighborhoods shooting at each other.

The "others" commit crimes, do drugs, obtain fully automatic (illegal) firearms to spray up those liquor store corners and lawless house parties in ghettos across america.

As for the lone nutcases, there will never be a solution. America will always have guns. America will also always have envious communities who will settle disputes among themselves by using firearms against one another. And we all say, "Black lives matter" - as if!

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

If you can safeguard airports, you can safeguard schools. Limit the points of entry to one per school and set up metal detectors operated by armed security guards. Then the gun crazies will have to turn their attention somewhere else, like shopping centers or churches.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

That's because law abiding republicans don't go around their middle class / upper-middle class neighborhoods shooting at each other. - comments

So? More guns and less regulation?

Following these informed suggestions is amusing, but what are we saying?

No regulation because most of us GOP-Shia-Teas are cool with firearms? It is always so nice to read of someone from the upper classes who can have that common touch. Noblesse Oblige? Too bad about those children who died. If they weren't important why spend so much time on the high powered firearm and multiple magazines? Everyone has to have a hobby.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

USA today needs another strong, decisive and touch leader like Lincoln who will rip off the NRA lobbyists as slavery lobbyists of the South. North will not need to please South demand for protecting their commercial interest.

Otherwise US residents will keep lighting the candles for Gun shooting victims forever. They are human preys for pleasure killing. They are nothing different from southern slaves.

Second amendment is same as grand old antique which has been old, rusted and faded. It should be sent to retirement village. Will Obama librate trigger happy and babies killing USA as Lincoln?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

USA today needs a bloody better media who doesn't have it's head so far up the lizard king that mackerel looks like sushi.

I jest.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

So? More guns and less regulation

Didn't say that. Don't twist my words here. I'm just making a simple observation.

because law abiding republicans don't go around their middle class / upper-middle class neighborhoods shooting at each other.

Ever been to those kinds of neighborhoods in US??

Neither are there dozens of corner liquor stores selling cheap "malt liquor" to armed hip-hop blasting patrons who will- more than likely- wind up killing another young adult male of his same ethnicity before the nights end. And we all say "Black lives matter" - as if!!

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

That's because law abiding republicans don't go around their middle class / upper-middle class neighborhoods shooting at each other.

You keep forgetting one important thing, as I always have said, Liberals are the epitome of what the word hypocrite means when they selectively choose issues that they SEE as unjust, forget about using logic, reasoning, being fair or partisan, it's all about issues that are progressive in nature and fit to the liberal narrative. These people are absolutely amazing.

And now you understand why they are known as the party of "wimps."

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

That's because law abiding republicans don't go around their middle class / upper-middle class neighborhoods shooting at each other.

Yeah, they go to universities in Oregon and shoot up a bunch of innocent kids instead.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Again, I would have a whole lot more respect for you libs if only you guys were consistent in your rhetoric. If you guys would feel as passionately about babies being torn apart and their body parts sold to the highest bidder in the same manner you feel about guns and the NRA, I shut my mouth and give you guys a sincere apology, but I know that would never happen, but I'm always open to you guys proving me wrong.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Ahh, so we have to care about every last injustice that ever occurred, is occurring, and ever will occur, or we are hypocritical?

So in other words you are saying "you don't care about everything, so it's obvious you don't care about anything".

I think the 50% of the population that is above average intelligence can see through the logical fallacy of that argument.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

There is only one common sense gun law. The public is ban from gun ownership or a gun licence. period. No if,s no but,s. You simple have no common sense to even attempt a comment. THere is no logic in the having the democratic rights for citizen gun ownership.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Ahh, so we have to care about every last injustice that ever occurred, is occurring, and ever will occur, or we are hypocritical?

No, you guys just want to care about injustices that the Democratic Party can benefit from.

So in other words you are saying "you don't care about everything, so it's obvious you don't care about anything".

No, I care, I'm just not a hypocrite like most progressive liberals.

I think the 50% of the population that is above average intelligence can see through the logical fallacy of that argument.

If that's true about the intelligence, Obama would have never been president.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

No, you guys just want to care about injustices that the Democratic Party can benefit from.

What a ridiculous statement.

No, I care, I'm just not a hypocrite like most progressive liberals.

Followed by another ridiculous statement.

If that's true about the intelligence, Obama would have never been president.

And there is the hat trick.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Those who state that planes, cars, petrol, etc. all kill in a hand of a nutter. Firearm are design to kill. I can,t not drive a gun to work. I can not fly on a gun for long distant travel. A gun can,t run my car. A gun can,t improve my crops. All the above are design for a purpose to enhance society. Gun are design to Kill. Military and Police Forces are design to defend and protect Society. Baring car or all etc will create problems for society. Baring gun will not. So there no argument for the pro Gun society.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

What a ridiculous statement.

Because the truth hurts?

Followed by another ridiculous statement.

This is what libs do, deny, deny, deny.....

And there is the hat trick.

Can it make the current admin. disappear?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

No, I just want you libs to be consistent about the issues, if you want to blame the NRA and conservatives, you also need to blame the Democrats that support the NRA as well and hold the, equally accountable that want to politize the abortion issue and sit by doing nothing to stop the slaughter and butchering and the sale of baby parts. Again, I just want fairness from you guys.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Yeah we get your stance. If we don't care about all issues that have ever happened and ever will happen, we are hypocrites.

And as I said, the 50% of people above average intelligence can see the logical fallacy in that line of thought.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Good, gun control is a pointless action because it is psychotics and criminals who murder. No one ever hears the left wingers demand something be done about the psychos and criminals. It can only be assumed an alterior motive is what the socialists are after and that would be disarming the population because tyrannies prefer unarmed victims. What is really odd is US Democrats trust violent thugs in the middle east and supply them with guns but the same Democrats don't trusts law abiding Americans with guns.

Government and criminals are the only groups who commit kill with guns, so how about banning guns from both.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

They don't enforce the existing laws anyway, what good are new ones going to do?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Yeah we get your stance. If we don't care about all issues that have ever happened and ever will happen, we are hypocrites.

I wish all liberals would take that same admission on that valid point.

And as I said, the 50% of people above average intelligence can see the logical fallacy in that line of thought.

The sad thing in that analysis is, the way things are going in the country with the president that we have currently, a loudmouth running on the GOP side, a socialist and a habitual liar, I believe we are all doomed.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Just like the drug laws. Are they working? How many deaths are due to drug abuse?

This NRA = GOP is poppycock! Democrats are gun owners also, and not an insignificant number either.

We have a violence problem in USA. When the scumbags chose to use a gun everyone is up in arms. When it's a baseball bat nothing said. Turn all the guns in and those same scumbags will continue.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

****Americans regard their guns as toys. Try taking their guns away and, like children, they start crying. Tis time Americans grew up and faced reality. I own 16 guns, but I'm schizophrenic. Which side of me would you like to believe?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Defending a society with guns = defending a society where school shootings are a part of life.
