Makes sense I suppose, I had no idea a jet could run on bio fuel.

A lot of people here are making bio diesel to run their cars on, the government is already trying to slap tax on it.

Biofuel is a scam. You grow food to put in your mouth, not in your engine. Several years ago the UN admitted the move to biofuel had forced food prices higher globally and the poorest among us were/are dying as a result.

And still this carbon talk? Real environmental issues need to be dealt with. Taxing the air we exhale as panacea to all things environmental is poppycock. The science behind the carbon credit scheme is as flawed as it is corrupt. Wasn't Qantas bailed out recently? Is this how they can get away with it?

@Stipend,

You grow food to put in your mouth, not in your engine. Several years ago the UN admitted the move to biofuel had forced food prices higher globally and the poorest among us were/are dying as a result.

But the article is stating that it is running on recycled cooking oil. This means the whole world will have to eats lots of tonkatsu to keep the planes flying. No one will ever go hungry again.

Agreed.

Carbon tax is the biggest scam presented to humanity ever. It is high time it was struck from the record.

I was going to make a snark about biofuel not being ecological if you have to grow it using petroleum-based fuel and fertlizer to grow up, but that does not apply to used cooking oil.

Only true for crops grown to be be biofuel. The biofuel source in this case is waste cooking oil: "The Airbus A330 left Sydney for Adelaide using a 50-50 blend derived from recycled cooking oil and regular jet fuel..."

Where did you read this garbage? They have no such thing.

Heh, so to those thumbs down givers, you like paying tax?

A tax is supposed to justify paying for something. Unless God has a Pay pal account I'm not sure what it's paying for.

Pay pal is"potentially offensive content" mod?

This is not good news for OPEC.

"This is not good news for OPEC"

Pffff.

It's a publicity stunt to protest against the carbon tax. It's no different from taxing people for farting.

OMG, now the airport is going to smell like Mickey D's.

The very reason why cooking oil can fuel a jet engine is why I no longer eat vegetable oil - in particular, industrial seed oils.

If this cooking oil was already used at restaurants etc..I think recycling it is a great idea! Just think of all that nasty, nasty oil at your local Denny's?Mac Donald's? You name it and there must be tons and tons of this used cooking oil going to waste all of the world, and if Quantas can make their birds fly on 50/50 blends of jet fuel and cooking oil, think of how much $$$$$ we can all save! God/Buddha bless them Aussies!
