Footage just coming in of the funeral march. Citizens lining The Mall 10-deep, giving the Late Queen a standing ovation. Many in tears.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako looked impeccable as they appeared entering Westminster Abbey to pay respects to their beloved late friend.

The end of an era!

The procession was amazing.

Take a good look at the cover photo from JT. The stuffy privilege, the establishment, the flag waving, the acceptance of someone supposedly greater than your average human being, and the partition of a rigid class system. Take a good look at that photo because this encompasses exactly the things that we do not want in a humane civilisation. I truly hope this is one of the last times we have to witness this forced deference turning people into subjects.

She is not greater than nurses working to save lives everyday and living poorly, or charity workers helping children in war torn Syria or Afghanistan. So don't doff your cap or bow to her.

The Lord is my shepherd,is not a standard song at a wedding, even non believers are familiar with a Christian funeral than the average Japanese, lots of funeral are a celebration of life of the person,by his family and love one, they can be joyous or solemn occasions, just showing up at funeral, not knowing what going on is inauthentic, Biden been an Catholic,is probably the only leader familiar with the ritual,I watch the funeral mass of John Paul the Second, even as non believers, seeing the President of Israel and Iran united in brotherhood, even after death, you make a pilgrimage to your love one resting place,me and my brother make at least 4 pilgrimage a year, even though they are gone, they should not be forgotten

Take a good read of this comment because this encompasses the things that the majority of British people do not agree with.

If the British people did not want the monarchy, it would be gone.

Brits are feeling quite good about their country right now. They haven't had much to feel good about in recent years, and I'm in favour of a humane civilization that is occasionally allowed to feel good.

@TigersTokyoDome. You are confusing the UK with a totalitarian state like China or North Korea. No one is being forced to watch the funeral, as you well know.

Lots of funeral give people false, hope that someone is with their maker, and they will see them again in somekind of mythical afterlife, this is the only earthy plain , that we will reside on,how we choose to live it will be your only heaven or hell,

Only a small point but the Guards in the red tunics and bearskin hats should have ceremonial rifles for ceremonies. Those Sa80s just don't look right with the 1800's uniforms.

No, but the way the police dealt with protesters was concerning and not just among those opposed to having a monarchy.

Anyway, glad the funeral went off without incident as far as I know. This is someone’s mum regardless of her status.

Only a small point,

You’re not kidding.

The British are known for their love of understatement but that is taking it to extremes.

What a shame. Her majesty surely has deserved a much much better organized funeral service and ceremony. That was all full of protocol errors, unprofessionally, intentional and unintentional mistakes etc. and in sum I would like to say it was quite shocking, regarding her outstanding place in history, and it was in a certain sense good that Her majesty, the deceased queen, couldn’t see that terribly planned and executed procedure by herself. May she rest in peace now.

For my whole life, she has been my Queen. She was an amazing role model and I will miss her steadfastness.

ClippetyClop, I entirely agree. So many people from outside the Commonwealth (namely Americans) seem to think they deserve to decide whether another country should have and/or keep its monarchy. The only people who should be making that decision are those who live under the monarchy themselves. If British people and people of the Commonwealth are happy, people of other countries should keep silent. (I say this as an American myself.) Especially during a time like this, when people were mourning the loss of a queen who - for many of us - was the only queen we've known in our lifetimes to this point.

Anyway, the ceremony was beautiful (stayed up to watch even though it's 1AM now), and I wish the new king a beautiful reign. May the late, beloved queen rest in eternal peace.

Alex , American has always decided the fate of the monarchy, when her uncle Edward married an American,an Abdicated the throne that paved the way for her to be queen, other than that nobody would of even known who she was Google King Edward Abdicated

Yrral, that has nothing to do with what I said. Once the United States separated from Britain, it lost all say it may have had as to whether or not Britain should have a monarchy. That is for the people of the Commonwealth to decide, not Americans. Also, yes, in recent days I have read up on some of the royals' history. I believe you are referring to the abdicated King Edward and his American wife, both of whom were Nazi sympathizers?

Long serving Queen Elizabeth II was a much loved and respected world leader. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon the departed soul. Strength and courage to all her loved ones.

Dr,she was not a world leader, only queen of England

I missed that referendum. Show me the vote on keeping this family. Pretty sure you are just highlighting your own opinion.

You obviously are not living in the UK right now. And tomorrow everyone will return to 5 hour waits for emergency ambulances, overnight waits in A&E, a broken public transport system, and a year of public workers strikes.

When people can't get an emergency ambulance to save them in time the country are spending this money and giving this send off for someone that none of us are related to.

agree. Dont understand monarchy no matter what.

I enjoyed the pageantry, the marching bands, invited the next door neighbours we had drinks, they had never visited the UK.

Excellent mix of tradition and moderate innovation, a good send off.

Huge crowds turned out for the platinum jubilee, I think the crowds were even larger for the funeral. The route out of London was as far as I could see solidly lined several deep in places. Even out in the country there were groups of people and crowds again in Windsor and the thousands of floral tributes lining the long walk and around the castle demonstrate the feelings of the population.

Good by your Majesty you have served your country well, rest in peace.

Very thoughtful and justified service for a strong and dedicated head of state.

great to also see no masks worn, hopefully Japan can learn that all modern countries are no longer wearing masks…

A couple of excellent posts. The UK is in serious trouble as the number of shocking news stories that were conveniently submerged under coverage of the Queen's death last week show. That wasn't so much a funeral as an establishment spectacle created to sanctify the monarchy and consecrate the ruling class order in Britain. According to the Financial Times last week Britain is now officially a poor country with some very rich people, none of whom will be dying of malnutrition or hypothermia this winter.
