The Queen will never abdicate. She is a very religious woman and made a promise to god during her coronation. She also experienced the personal and public turmoil caused by her uncle’s abdication.

I am a republican at heart who doesn't really approve of 'royal' families but goodness me, what an absolute treasure Queen Elizabeth is. She will perhaps go down as the most popular monarch who ever graced the earth. I adore her.

Resignation is not part of our tradition which is why her uncle’s behaviour was such a major constitutional crisis.

While I am not a great supporter of inherited privilege the examples of elected presidents around the world don’t inspire me with much confidence in the alternative. The crown reigns but does not rule. The elected representatives and the people are the real power so retaining a powerless head of state has advantages. At least we can never have the likes of Mugabe, Putin, or Trump.

The Queen made a promise to the people of the UK and the Commonwealth that she would never abdicate and she would dedicate her life to the service of England and her people.

If she did abdicate it would show that the word of the King or Queen is worthless and people shouldn't believe what the monarch says.

I wonder if it's possible or legal for the Queen to retire alive

Yes it is very much possible and legal The Queen can basically do what she wants. unlike the Japanese Emperor who is just a symbol and has no power of influence.

It has been hard on her. You can see it in her face in the car window.

One hears stories about spouses that succumb shortly after the death of their life-long partner. One wonders if this is laying the groundwork to prep the public for such an eventuality.

Oh, man, that babe rocks! She reminds me of my mother (Scottish). She is irreplaceable.

...so retaining a powerless head of state has advantages. At least we can never have the likes of Mugabe, Putin, or Trump.

That extends to the Commonwealth nations as well.

Even Indians or some Asians respect the Queen than the real white British who cares only about the football (sport that waste our time moving our eyes watching some rich lads kick the ball here and there on the grass) in their life.

“I anticipate that we’re going to see a lot more of Prince Charles in the next couple of years so that we, as a people, start to see him in his future role as king.”

If the monarchy is to survive, Charles’s reign as king must be relatively short. In fact, it would be best if the Royals skipped a generation.

Or skipped it altogether.

When the Queen eventually goes, that would be a good time to re-evaluate if a selected family of aristocrats is still a good idea for national leaders in the modern world. My view is that it is well out of date and an expense that ordinary working people shouldn't have to pay for.

She is a very religious woman and made a promise to god during her coronation

The religious aspect of the British monarchy is a bit farcical. She’s the head of a church memorably described as ‘founded on the family values of Henry the Eighth’.

I hope with her inevitable passing we can at last finally rid ourselves of one of the most outdated anachronisms of the 21st century. Likewise the Chrysanthemum Throne.

I think a good time for her to step down and let Chazza take over

I wonder if it's possible or legal for the Queen to retire alive. In case of Japan's emperorship, its tenure shall be life-time. Thus the "one time" special law was made and enacted for Emperor Akihito who expressed his retirement.

Her reign has already outlasted Queen Victoria's and is the longest ever in monarchical history. I'm not sure what motive still keeps her stay.

Who really cares about the Royals!

They grow less and less likeable with every scandal especially Prince Andrew aka Randy Andy!

The Queen's "twilight of her reign" symbolizes perfectly the state of the (how much longer?) United Kingdom wallowing amid the miasma of incompetence and sleaze of the shambolic Tory "Twilight Zone". Nor will the imminent enthronement of Charles the Third bring any relief to the dire state of a nation in the thick of it, ravaged by deadly Covid and waiting for the sucker punch from Boris's looming Brexit fiasco.

Charles is not liked by the public, nobody wants to see him become a king...

I agree with the first part of your comment!

It pretty much is. I don’t see her as an authority on anything worth knowing.

@nandakandamanda

It has been hard on her. You can see it in her face in the car window. I disagree, 95 years of a privileged life, that life goes on for her as long as she is sitting on the throne
