Leadership comes from service.

This very special lady has served her nation and the Commonwealth for nearly 68 years.

Before that she saw her father and mother along with a real leader in Churchill lead a nation in an incredible alliance to defeat tyrannical regimes in two theatres of war.

She served as an ambulance mechanic and ambulance driver during that Second World War and she gave radio addresses to children who were fearful about a world war. Service that came before her ascension to the Throne in 1952.

In her time Her Majesty has seen leadership in people like Roosevelt and Eisenhower.

I would suspect she could easily identify pretenders to leadership.

I thought that address was very good and much needed.

I have zero respect for the notion of monarchy, but since hearing the Queen's so very thoughtful words spoken after 911 she - as an individual - is someone whose voice is wonderful to hear when we the people are up against it.

"God Save The Queen - we mean it man..."

I’ve got no interest in what her speechwriters have to say.

The queen invoked the words of a World War II-era song “We'll Meet Again” by Vera Lynn that offered hope to many a soldier sent to fight, promising that loved ones would be reunited in the end,

And then there's Roger Waters:

"Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?

Remember how she said that

We would meet again

Some sunny day?

Vera, Vera

What has become of you?

I, as an American, will honor the long-standing and under-appreciated custom of our 'special relationship;' namely of not commenting on the domestic politics of Britain, and thus will not weigh in in the relative merits of your monarchy.

But I would like to point out something quite special: she speaks of unity, humanity and patriotism.

Nice.

“Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.”

That’s the right attitude in the midst of a crisis.

She’s actually still knocking around at 103. Had a chart topper at age 97.

Elizabeth is a spring chicken. Still learning to fly.

Nice. Watched this story on the news and had the same recollection. I remember listening to that album for the first time, probably 16, walking out Of my room and asking my folks “hey mom dad, who’s Vera Lynn?”
