What a shock, this was...
Thank you Donna, for sharing your beautiful voice, and helping us to dance through all the madness...

RIP. She was a good one. Just the other day I was listening to "Hot Stuff" and had no idea that this would happen.

I just read about this before going to sleep. Very shocked. 70's music wouldn't be what it was without Donna. Very fond memories of listening to her music. She'll be sorely missed.

OMG! Donna Summer! Her song Hot stuff is one of my favorites.
RIP, dear, for your music is immortal!

What a shocker! She was the Queen of Disco - what a voice! She contributed more to music history than Whitney Houston, IMHO. Her music will live forever!

One of the greatest singer ever. I just loved her music and her incredible voice. I will miss her. RIP and thanks for all those good memories I have listening to your music.

I wore out probably three cassettes (yup, dating myself) of her's on my Walkman playing them so much when I was traveling a lot. Used to annoy the sh*t out of the folks sitting next to me on planes, as I'd crank the volume up real loud, and those ear phones let a lot of it escape. She will always have a key place in my music memories. May she rest in peace.

Ach! "State Of Independence"... great, great song, among so many great songs Donna Summer gave us. Poor woman.

One of the first albums I ever bought was Donna Summer. Loved the movie The Full Monty and that scene with her song in the DSS queue has become legendary. God bless you Donna, you will be sorely missed. Condolences to your family.

Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again
Classic lines from her magnificent "MacArthur Park". Of course, this was before the Internet and search engines. You can probably find her recipe with a Google search.

Never forget that 70s summer when my little sister, still in her single digits, memorized the lyrics, "Hey, mister? Do you have a dime? Hey, mister? Do you wanna good time?"
It understandably drove my mother crazy.

I grew up in Detroit and grew up on Donna Summer. Thank you for everything, Ms. Summer! You will be missed!

So not only is disco dead, but Al Qaeda killed it?

"State of Independence" my all-time favorite. Had no idea. Way too young! Sad. She's resting now, however.

RIP Donna...

Whitney..then beastie boy member..now Summers? All the hit singers of the late days going away, now we're stuck with kids not knowing who the good musicians were and think Lil Wayne is God of music or Drake(though he not so bad) but still their legacy needs to be carried on for the new generation to remember these greats!!! :(

"She Works Hard for the Money"
So you better treat her right.
RIP, Donna.

Actually I can't really pick a fave since I love a lot of her 70's stuff and the songs she did with S.A.W. I remember my sister having the Live and More LP. That long MacArthur Park medley with Heaven Knows was a real gem. Also loved 'On the Radio' which came with that Jodie Foster movie.

Adding to the list... If you ever lived in the Washington D.C. area in the 70's or 80's, a local great died the day before Donna did. Chuck Brown (75), "The Godfather of Go-Go" died on Tuesday. He had pneumonia.
