I won’t hold my breath. The House of Windsor has proven itself incapable of learning or growth.

0 ( +14 / -14 )

Buckingham Palace has come under mounting pressure to respond to the claims made in an Oprah Winfrey interview first broadcast on Sunday, which triggered a crisis unseen since the anguished days of Harry's late mother, Diana, in the 1990s.

The interview was aired in the UK on this year's Commonwealth Day. Tactical.

Easy, just ignore these two.

The plight of those suffering in places like Syria and Yemen pales in comparison to the woes of Harry and Meghan. And less Oprah-friendly as well.

Let’s pray that these two find some solace in their own Netflix series.

Before Meghan decided to get married to Harry, she should have had a good hard look at the history of the British royal family. Because it has always been WHITE and the people of color were always servants throughout it's entire history! So she is either a masochist or stupid or a gold digger. And as for Harry, he is totally ignorant of the family's ways and history. This is a family which got reach by robbing every corner of the British Empire and using slaves to enrich themselves. And the British elite with all their sugar cane plantations with all the black slaves and Indian door men and servants are the core of the British establishment which at the time used all the stolen raw materials and labor to pay for the Industrial Revolution. Therefore nobody in the higher echelons of British society will look at Meghan or any of her offsprings as anything more than a servant . And by the way this is not racism, it is just the way it is. And any action that the Queen might take, will be purely superficial because none of them want any coloreds in the family, period!!!

Can you imagine for a second what would happen if any boy who is in line to the the throne of Japan says that he wants to get married to a woman of color?

-15 ( +3 / -18 )

and the people of color were always servants throughout it's entire history!

Nonsense.

what would happen if any boy who is in line to the the throne of Japan says that he wants to get married to a woman of color?

In the Japanese context "woman of colour" would also include white?

14 ( +17 / -3 )

The Queen has said that the matter will be taken seriously, so it will be.

She has stated that the couple will always be much loved family members.

I think that concludes this storm in a teacup.

Hav'nt heard a rant like this since the 1970's.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

Harry had to be more considerate in choosing his partner. It is not the case Jack find Jill.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

The things this chic will say and do for attention. What a drama queen ... oops, drama duchess.

9 ( +16 / -7 )

And now, boys and girls, here's the British punk band "Suicide Markle" with their latest hit single

"Archie's too Dark."

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

A while back, He Whose Name Shall Not be Mentioned quipped, "I wish Prince Harry the best of luck. Coz he's gonna need it."

He wasn't far off the mark. But Harry made his choice, and he's going to have to live with it.

Thought that the far right were against cancel culture?

Unless it's women, especially women of colour...

I wonder if they will remain in the tabloids long enough to do a second Oprah Winfrey interview. Let’s take a look at the numbers:

More than 11 million people then tuned in to watch it in full on ITV in Britain, the channel said.

Decent but not spectacular. Diana got over 20 million for her interview. My money is on a few decent PR stunts to keep things simmering. Using genderless pronouns for the new baby could be a good kick off.

So will the identity of the racist in the royal family be revealed? My money was on Phillip who was odds-on in most people’s book given his history.

People can get fired from their jobs for racist comments. A pity we can’t fire the royals.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Harry made a foolish choice. She was well-known to be a trouble maker long before she met Harry.

When one only has one lens to view things through, everything looks the same.

Easy, just ignore these two.

Thought that the far right were against cancel culture?

Lighten up. This isn't about intentionally shutting down someone you don't agree with. Just ignoring some family dirty laundry that's been hung out for public view to increase one individual's desire for publicity.

Not everything's political, ya know!

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Not enough internal warmth or communication in the family having set the scene? The press unable to leave it alone, aiming for any and every possible weakness?

I'd go with Meghan's father on this one.

Quote: Meghan's estranged father Thomas Markle defended the royals, saying he hoped the skin tone comment was "just a dumb question". "It could just be that simple, it could be somebody asked a stupid question, rather than being a total racist," he told Britain's ITV.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

She was well-known to be a trouble maker long before she met Harry.

For being an intelligent woman of colour, you mean?

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

I'd go with Meghan's father on this one.

MMs attention-seeking, money grabbing, wedding-ruining pop?

Sure.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Always nice things to say about the guys.

I've said plenty of nice things about Harry Windsor, despite being a republican.

But his father in law is trash.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Easy, just ignore these two.

Thought that the far right were against cancel culture?

Unless it's women, especially women of colour...

He said ignore a couple comprising of a white man and a woman of colour. I disagree with Bass on almost everything but I agree with him here.

I find them both very uninteresting people who’ve created a situation worth commenting on. Tom Cruise is not uninteresting and an A-list crackpot whose deranged turn on Oprah Winfrey was legendary. Not matched by a Hooray Henry and a C-list celeb.

You can find someone uninteresting and to be ignored without it being motivated by racism and misogyny

Markle's step sister wrote a book saying the princess has lots of issues, including the inability to tell the truth. Let's keep that in mind.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

Issues related with racism need to be taken seriously and addressed, and not privately.

The Monarchy is funded by the government is responsible to them, no one should find a racist institution.

Meanwhile in America, the bigots are jumping over each other to defend Monarchy and badmouth Harry and Meghan. When a disgusting bigot like Stephen Miller starts defending you, its time to make some changes!!!!

1 ( +5 / -4 )

A YouGov poll of 4,656 people after the interview aired on British television on Monday indicated almost a third (32 percent) felt the couple was unfairly treated, the same proportion as those who thought the opposite.

But older people were more likely to side with the royal family, the poll suggested.

This is just another story that has fed into an ongoing culture war in the UK over immigration, Brexit, BLM/statues of slavers, lockdowns, "political correctness" etc. There is huge crossover between those issues, with culture war opportunist #1 Nigel Farage himself trying to re-emerge as the head of an "anti-lockdown" party. No one is supposed to take a nuanced look at any of these things, you just pick a side and defend it to the last.

While all this distraction and stupid infighting have been going on, the UK has seen vast increases in the wealth of the 0.1% and the government hand out huge Covid contracts to donors with no requirement to supply a working app or the correct PPE. Things are going very badly in Ireland, and that is surely worth far more attention than any of this.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The Monarchy is funded by the government

I prefer ‘the monarchy is funded by the taxpayers’.

It rams home what hardworking people are on the hook for.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I doubt very little will be done because the royal family, the monarchy, the queen, and Brits have shown their double-standard for Americans, POC, and anyone who disagrees with them.

Let's not forget:

Virginia Roberts Giuffre alleged that the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficked her to the prince at least three times, charges that Andrew has denied, while a former employee of Epstein’s has claimed he saw Andrew “grinding” with a topless girl on Epstein’s Little St. James—a private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands dubbed “Pedophile Island.”

Whereas Prince Harry was stripped of his military titles upon stepping down from his royal duties, Prince Andrew has been allowed to keep his titles despite also stepping back from royal duties following the Epstein allegations. Buckingham Palace has failed to conduct an investigation into Andrew over it and instead has been pursuing a dubious “bullying” case against Markle.

@JeffLee

Markle's step sister wrote a book saying the princess has lots of issues, including the inability to tell the truth. Let's keep that in mind.

A logical thinker would consider the credibility of the source!

Poor The Queen. Royalty was ever thus but she has to deal with it in the full glare of 24 hour media and poisonous social media. As for "Prince" Harry and MM, they really are exemplars of privilege claiming victimhood. As much as I think Piers Morgan is a pompous buffoon who says anything to get a rise, I kind of agree that lots of what MM said rings untrue.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Stay cool and calm down, Your Majesty.

Your grandson and granddaughter-in-law are just a pair desperately and deliberately wanting to find themselves under more limelight in a country with all kinds of celebs.

Ignore their nonsense..

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Oprah is worth almost 3 billion.

Harry and Meghan are worth 40-50 million.

"Billionaire interviews multi millionaires about how unfair and difficult life is"

Give me a freakin' break. They can all get bent.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Easy, just ignore these two.

Right, so you mean ...? Where are we then? So now we know it wasn't Her Maj, and it wasn't that infamous old bigot she's married to, so who said it? ?? I'll put my money on Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the chamber pot.

Of course half of them are racists, not ready to look the twenty-first century in the face. It's the monarchy, stupid! What did you expect, progress? They've got form, just look back over the last hundred years of royal scandals, and you'll see how the institution responds to the winds of change - it turns its back.

Meanwhile, here in the real world, what are we being distracted from by this non-story?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Too late.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People who just want a quiet life out of the limelight do not give controversial interviews on prime TV.

People who refuse to be senior working royals are in no position to complain about the lack of titles or payment.

People who have an inheritance in the tens of millions of pounds to live on, and are young and healthy and able to work if so inclined, sound very petty when they complain that Daddy is no longer paying all the bills.

People whose passport has been taken from them and not returned do not hop across the Atlantic to hold a no-holds-barred baby shower.

People who helped set up an anonymous mental-health helpline two years ago and whose husband with his brother launched a campaign to fight mental health stigma five years ago, cannot seriously claim to have nowhere to go with her own mental health problems.

Wondering/commenting on what the child of a half-black, half-white mother and a very ginger father will look like is not 'Issues related with racism', it's just normal curiosity.

Oprah Winfrey is an experienced skilled interviewer, broadcaster.

Both Harry and Meghan should have been wary of their next-door neighbor/friend knocking bearing gifts.

Gift?

A so-called opportunity of presenting their side.

Oprah Winfrey coaxed, and confronted Meghan and Harry with leading questions from beginning to end.

Both capitulated with the response that Oprah Winfrey wanted to hear.

With friends like these…….

Kushiro**, *too late.....*

Indeed, can't turn back the clock

Of course half of them are racists, not ready to look the twenty-first century in the face. It's the monarchy, stupid! What did you expect, progress?

I don’t know if half of them are racists, but it is clearly a very weird family.

Who would want to marry into this bizarre family and why? Some people argued Diana was young and naive and she clearly wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. You can’t say this about Meghan.

I can’t imagine Meghan at a desperate and dateless party.

Spare us the only one for me slop.

... and Brits have shown their double-standard for Americans, POC, and anyone who disagrees with them.

I suppose this is something you regularly find with all the many, many "Brits" that I'm sure you know personally, as opposed to members of the Royal Family and characters from Hollywood films and daytime soap operas.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Trust some American celebrity to spout about "race" when angry. Predictable as clockwork.

Btw, she looks about as black as I do, so what does "race" even mean when it is just another identity that anybody can assume?

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Will she say, " We are not amused"?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I watched The Crown, so I know for a fact the Queen is telling he truth.

"Billionaire interviews multi millionaires about how unfair and difficult life is"

Give me a freakin' break. They can all get bent.

Hey, don’t criticise Oprah Winfrey. I found out on here the other day that there is something approaching lese majeste laws on that.

It was as bad as anything I’d come across from flag-waving royals.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Neither the queen, now 94, and her 99-year-old husband, Prince Philip, made the racist comment

I'm glad that was made clear. I remember Philip telling white British students in China that they'd get slitty eyes if they stayed there too long. The queen was not amused.

Piers Morgan - great news. This guy seems as thin-skinned as his fat guy friend. Just because someone who he vaguely knew ghosted him, he bears an eternal grudge. Grow up. Bye Felicia.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The "institution" failed to protect Diana, and they were failing Meghan. I am glad that she had Harry on her side, at least. It is too bad that Charles did not love Diana enough to stand by her side.

In these days a Constitutional Monarchy should serve the function of setting a good example for the people. If they cannot do that, they should be abolished.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

I recommend looking at the numbers. The Royal Estate pays more to the government than they receive in sovereign grant by a huge margin, they actually represent very good value for money to the taxpayers. Prince Charles is a very shrewd businessman who has drastically helped transform how they are funded. Sorry to break that to you.

No apology necessary. I was aware of this.

My point that taxpayers are on the hook for this still stands. Also, why do these people have so much land etc. in the first place? Did they earn it?

I could write a dozen ways this could be put to better use for the taxpayer.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The billionaire and the multi-millionaire couple are making even more money by the tempest in a tea pot they have served up to a gullible public. There is lots of money to be made by making general non-specific claims of a racist stalking the grounds of Windsor and Buckingham Palaces. Hope that Meghan of Sussex outs the erstwhile klansman so as to have him removed from the public dole. I suspect she believes she might completely destroy the monarchy and lose her title if she did. So instead she casts them all as potential bigots instead. The high minded victim is busy creating her own victims.

Queen Elizabeth and her family said on Tuesday that they were saddened to learn of the experiences of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, saying they would address issues around race that were raised by the couple in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Hehe I’m still savoring the delicious irony of Piers Morgan saying Meghan was being overly sensitive, only to run crying off his own show and quit because a weatherman told him he was being absolute rifle and that hurt his delicate widdle feewings. Boy, if one weatherman’s mild criticism can utterly destroy Piers Morgan, I can’t imagine what it must be like for Meghan to face actual bullying.

Charles Smith

Queen Elizabeth and her family said on Tuesday that they were saddened to learn of the experiences of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan,

Yeah, after spending 30 million Pound on her wedding, the queen must be delighted to hear her new granddaughter bitching about her on a US gossip TV show. Really classy.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@Zaphod

You do know they had nothing but good things to say about the Queen in the interview, right? I mean, maybe I’m naïve to expect you of all people to actually watch the thing you’re bitching about before you start bitching.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Oprah must practice that mouth drop in front a mirror an hour each day.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Some of you here should stop wearing racially correct sunglasses and take a look at the world the way it really is. Racism and discrimination is NOT going to go away EVER!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hav'nt heard a rant like this since the 1970's.

A rant it might be, but it is the way it is now and was in 1970's and so was since the 17th century, nothing changed nor will it! The world moved on, but not the way things are in that family! And if you hang around long enough, you will hear my rant again if that pathetic family has another scandal as it surely will...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The whole thing is so comical. Megan really craves attention. Harry really is an idiot. The royals really are messed up. It’s like Ab Fab but in real life.
