No drumbeat of lies, Tortoise

@ Desert Tortoise, ISIS was part of the Sunni plan to commit genocide against the shiites. They were supported by both Turkey and Saudi.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@ Dessert Tortoise, You forget that ISIS was made up from Sunnis

No I didn't. Did I not say Sunni Arabs, meaning Deash and Al Qaeda, were fighting Shiite Arabs such as those in Iraq and the Alawytes in Syria and their allies in Hezbollah?

More lies. The US seized Iranian assets in the US when the revolutionaries seized the US Embassy and took its staff as hostages. That money had been tied up since 1979. In addition Iran was owed a great deal of money for oil it sold abroad that was tied up in foreign and US banks by US financial sanctions on Iran. The sanctions made it impossible for the world's banks to conduct the transactions necessary to pay Iran for these oil sales. All of the monies involved were Iranian assets tied up in banks around the world by various US sanctions. Part of the deal was to release these funds upon acceptance of the terms.

How DARE you discuss fact and reality when they're talking rhetoric and hyper-partisanship. How DARE you.

...and get caught doing it? Arab unity would be in disarray if the Iranian could get credible evidence it was Israel, and therefore, no one, not even the Israeli would plan such a blatantly risky/stupid mission.

Arab unity? What's that? That is the sound of the '70s lol. And Iran isn't even Arab, it's Persian and a traditional enemy of the Arabs. There is no Arab unity any more. That all went out the window during the Lebanese Civil War and Syria's invasion of Lebanon. Today Shiite Arabs fight Sunni Arabs in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. Arabs fight Arabs in Libya too. Now it is Sunni Muslim unity against the Shiite Muslims and if Israel just happens to bloody the nose of the Shiites, all the better for the Sunnis. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. It's all about defeating the Shiites now.

Iran has been caught lying about its nuclear program many, many times by IAEA inspectors, as they have stated in their reports over the years.

I heard the same steady drumbeat of lies about Iraq having nuclear weapons. The fabricated yellowcake documents and all. Meanwhile the IAEA inspectors on the ground in Iraq said time after time there was no nuclear weapons program in Iraq. The right in the US laughed and claimed they were rubes but in the end they were correct. Iraq did not have an active nuclear weapons program. They had hit a wall technically and financially. The same IAEA says Iran had no nuclear weapons program either and continues to say so. The right wing in the US has zero credibility. All they want is an excuse to start more wars, cost and consequences be damned.

The Israeli regime, in its propaganda to justify the cold blooded murder of a scientist, has declared a standard that Iran can cite for a lot of retaliation.

'Anyone involved in the creation of a nuclear weapon is a walking dead man'.

While the IAEA inspectors reports make it clear that there are no Iranians who fit the description (no evidence of the existence of a nuclear weapons program being a very common phrase in the reports from the folks who've been popping into every site in Iran where enriched nuclear material is made, stored, used, or disposed of for decades before Obama was even elected to do the most intensive searches and forensic audits imaginable) its an open secret that there are a lot of Israeli regime officials, military personnel, scientists, engineers, construction workers, and scientists who do.

And surely the Israeli regime and its supporters aren't hypocritical enough to insist that the standards they declare apply to others don't apply to the Israeli regime itself.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Saudis did this. And they are laughing behind their hands that everyone else thinks Israel and the USA are responsible. Mr. Netanyahu just met with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia a few days before this event - probably looking for a quid pro quo or an offering of dedication to the anti-Iranian cause.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Blood thirsty war criminals who need to be prevented and kept responsible are hijacked and dominated by US foreign policy. The one who assassinated the scientist. Israel is expected to be at the top of every chart. They must have told Trump beforehand. Probably not. Israel claims that before withdrawing, Trump will hit Iran and train his military.

Ex-Presidents make their money out of books and speaking engagements. They've been leading fascinating lives. How many past presidents are there around the world and how many people have seen and done the types of stuff a former president has done alive today? They have interesting views to offer.

Iran's hands are tied, unless they are able to use Hezbollah to strike inside Israel, in which case the country will be visited by the Israeli airforce, possibly backed by the US. Trump's ego demands that he do something violent before he's escorted off the property, and time is getting short.

How has Japan managed to remain neutral?

...by bending over, like the time Iran bombed a Japanese tanker whilst Abe was visiting Iran, Japan just bent over and smile politely waiting for the next installment.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

they would certainly not mind seeing the Israelis take such actions

A lot of wisdom in the comments, plus much speculation and personal opinion dressed up as fact.

So, for me the two questions are, a) Who employs Ninja? and b) Iran seem likely to possess nuclear weapons in the near or distant future come what may, leading a coalition of Shiite Muslim countries and backed by North Korea, Russia and China), so why do we assume that they might be crazy enough to use one? Would our time not be better spent learning how to see eye-to-eye, or are some things so deeply ingrained that hatred must inevitably win through? Are we not just building up future Karma? How has Japan managed to remain neutral? Is there not something to be learned and taken on board, for the sake of future generations?

The last three big Middle East wars were started by Republican Presidents...

And continued by the Democratic Presidents.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

If this is so, I'm sure even the staunchest Trump supporters will criticize their Trump for further increasing tensions in the Middle East

Huh? supporting tensions? What are you talking about? Lol

on his way out the door, leaving yet another pile for Biden to clean up.

By giving in to them.....we’ve seen this before 8 years ago to be exact.

I'm sure those Trump supporters who claim to be 'Americans' see making Biden's job even more difficult because of Trump's nastiness is not good for the US, that damaging the US to make Biden's job is no LOL matter.

Us Trump supporters aren’t doing anything but just watching.....

Trump's nastiness is not good for the US, that damaging the US to make Biden's job is no LOL matter.

No, we like Trump’s nastiness especially when it’s directed towards the establishment. Biden won’t clean up anything, appeasement and capitulation, he will for sure and I have zero doubts about it, a lot of money is at stake, Biden knows this.

Iran has been caught lying about its nuclear program many, many times by IAEA inspectors, as they have stated in their reports over the years.

If you think Iran's leaders don't want nuclear weapons you're kidding yourself.

Seeing as there is no legal way to prevent them doing it (the nuclear deal would only have delayed it), then illegal means such as this assassination are the only option, right?

I wonder if all these posters here think a nuclear-armed Iran would be good for the world. No? Then what do you suggest?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Wolfpack

Biden has been on the wrong side of every foreign policy issue for over 40 years. The Iranian deal was stupid because the Mullahs took the benefits and planned to continue cheating anyway like just they always do. But leave it to Dems to cozy up to dictators with sweet deals and pallets of cash.

Exactly. But trust the legacy media consumers to live in an alternative universe where all that matters is to get rid of orange man.

In the event, this is an interesting political chess move. Israel has been hell bent on weaking the Iranian regime (for understandable reasons), and a neolib Biden adminstration had already announced that they would restart the disastrous appeasement deal with the islamic republic. That has just become a lot more difficult.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

This assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, is a political statement to the incoming Biden administration.

And a taste of the future anarchy/chaos that will inevitably follow should the Biden administration consider pursuing a foreign policy that allowed Iran through stealth resume a nuclear program.

The Government of Israel would not hesitate to strike if the nation believed Iran presents an existential threat.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Deep inside Iran, in broad daylight. Israel? LOL. Israel may want people to think they're capable of such a complex and risky mission, but they're not stupid. If they're caught and tortured to confess they risk all the relationships recently fostered with Arab states.

No. The Arab states would silently cheer Israel. Why do you think they are all suddenly establishing diplomatic relations with Israel? I still personally think Saudi Arabia had something to do with this but they would certainly not mind seeing the Israelis take such actions. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Obama left office 4 years ago. His net worth has increased by $40 million.

That's a number some are guesstimating. Others say as much as $70 million. No one positing these numbers is sharing their methodology for arriving at them so there is no way to know if they are right or not. At best they are speculative.

Ex-Presidents make their money off speaking engagements and books. They have lived interesting lives. How many ex-Presidents are there in the world and how many others alive today have seen and done the sorts of things an ex-President has done? They have unique perspectives to offer. Lots of people are willing to pay good money to hear them speak. It's not like foreign dictators are funneling the money to them. It's coming from other Americans who pay to hear them speak, or pay their hard earned to read their books. No great conspiracy. Nothing inherently evil. Considering the pressures of the job and the paltry pay compared to their counterparts in industry who have far less responsibility I would say Presidents are greatly underpaid during their time in office.

No matter  Republican Presidents or democratic.

Interest are same to earn money for USA.

So, they do what they want to do.

Starting blame...., next prepare plot by media to perform the activity then execute, done

The agreement was working and Iran was grudgingly adhering to the terms they agreed to. It was the US that violated the agreement. I sincerely hope the deal can be restored.

As for Iraq, it ought to be plain to everyone by now they had no nuclear weapons and they weren't secretly supporting Al Qaeda. The two reasons for invading Iraq, and all the heartache that caused, were based on lies. Republican lies.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Biden has been on the wrong side of every foreign policy issue for over 40 years. The Iranian deal was stupid because the Mullahs took the benefits and planned to continue cheating anyway like just they always do.

They adhered to the deal, as Merkel, Macron and May said at the time. The cheat was the Trump administration who welched on the deal and upped the aggressive rhetoric.

But leave it to Dems to cozy up to dictators with sweet deals and pallets of cash.

Conveniently forgetting Putin, MBS, Xi. And maybe Kim? After all, Trump's deals always are transactional...

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I won’t shed any tears over the killing. Iran has been a source or arms and money for countless killings in the region, and god forbid they ever develop a nuclear weapon.

As for Obama’s nuclear deal, it is very similar to the UN’s “Oil for Food” program during Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. It is a program which allows Iran’s mullahs control over all the goods imported, and grants virtual monopolies to those who have distribution rights over Iranian oil and the export of goods to Iran.

Like the Oil for Food program, the rulers become richer, and the people suffer at least as much as they did before.

Obama left office 4 years ago. His net worth has increased by $40 million since that time. How much has the net worth of ordinary working people increased over the last 4 years? Why is it our former presidents pull in tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of dollars after they leave office? It is payback of course, for the deals they made while in office. Yet there are some here who will think Obama deserves that $40 million, but would scream at the thought of CEO of a successful company earning that much.

I am no fan of Israel, but I am a Gulf War veteran, and am much less a fan of Iran.

Any examination of history shows Iran is a complete and objective victim of imperialism, in every incidence.

I think that Iraq and the people of Lebanon mihght disagree (for starters).

Now that Trump is gone, "DEMOCRATS" cant wait to liberate the Middle east once again. Wars on middle east news gonna take over Covid-19 media frenzy.

Ummm ... no. In the past few decades, all of the wars in the region that involved the U.S. began under Republican presidents.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Biden has promised a return to diplomacy with Iran after four hawkish years under Trump, who withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and began reimposing crippling sanctions.

And the ongoing wars (open, proxy or covert) in Afghanistan, Syria, Yemeni etc?

IMHO, domestic Iranian oppositions to the clerics or the Saudis.

Interesting to see the anti-war activism coming from the right wing. The last three big Middle East wars were started by Republican Presidents btw, just for the sake of clarity.

The US and Israel believe it is fair game to simply murder Iran's elite as they please, then they turn around and say Tehran is the "terror state" and aggressor. Any examination of history shows Iran is a complete and objective victim of imperialism, in every incidence.

There is one other potential culprit that is not being mentioned; Saudi Arabia. Unless someone fesses up we may never know who pulled this off.

I mentioned Saudi Arabia in an earlier post on the attack but thank you very much for reminding everyone. The Saudis in particular have multiple reasons to attack Iran not the least of which was the big oil refinery attack last year, along with multiple attacks on tankers loading in Saudi ports and various Houthi attacks on Saudi cities.

So last week Trump is asking for "options" to attack Iran... gets talked out of it... this week the top scientist is murdered... hmmmm

9 ( +15 / -6 )

The real target wasn't the nuclear scientist. The real target was Joe Biden and his vow to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal.

Biden should condemn this for what it is: an act of state terrorism.

13 ( +19 / -6 )

A good question would be...Why is Israel allowed to openly commit murder?
