Her remarks, which included mocking the Black son of a white councilman, came during a discussion with other Latino Council members

What she said was pretty horrific if you listen to the tapes. And her words were not countered by anyone else there - more they made approving noises.

I hope the Democrats kick her out of the Party.

""Former Council president Nury Martinez, a Democrat, stepped down from the job and apologized Monday, saying she was ashamed of her racially offensive language in the year-old recording. ""

Fair Enough, now lets move on and stop bragging about it.

Karine Jean-Pierre: "Here's the difference between Democrats and MAGA Republicans. When a Democrat says something racist or antisemitic, we hold Democrats accountable. When a MAGA Republican says something racist or antisemitic, they are embraced by cheering crowds."

The usual ‘victims’ of so-called racism are now in power and suddenly become racists themselves? If not that news, which one else could have made my day.

Just painful….

Nury Martinez

This woman shouldn’t be anywhere or hold any political title.

so the Democrats are actually the racists, how interesting.

No, it just means racists are pervasive in society. They are GOP, Dem and independents as far as politics goes. Not interesting, just reality. No organization is perfect, and people are not perfect.

Rivalry between Latinos and blacks has always existed in the US, a country with a border and tribal mentality..

If this is how some democrats are, how will the medievals of GOP are???..

so the Democrats are actually the racists, how interesting.

GOP medieval republicans are the worst racists.. don't make a scene..

“Former Council president Nury Martinez, a Democrat, stepped down from the job and apologized Monday, saying she was ashamed of her racially offensive language”

your main takeaway from this is that the gop is racist?

Personally I thought Tulsi Gabbard leaving the Democratic Party is much more relevant to the “world” than this news. Tulsi said

*I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith & spirituality, demonize the police & protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, *believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.

All three city council members should resign and leave public life forever. Nury Martinez only resigned her council presidency. She and the other two council members should resign their seats. The union leader sitting in that conversation has already stepped down.

“stepped down from the job and apologized Monday, saying she was ashamed of her racially offensive language in the year-old recording.”

Not enough. No reshuffling and letting her back in later.

bass, if saying racist things is your criteria for disqualifying a politician from office…I got some REALLY bad news about the GOP…

Racists come in a stripes. The difference is that Democrats hold racists accountable and Republicans give them endorsements.

Racists come in a stripes.

Based on personal experience there are racists among every racial and ethnic group. When I ran a repair shop for a trucking company just like Ms Martinez my taller, whiter northern Mexican workers looked down on our shorter and darker workers who came from southern Mexico. Both groups looked down on the couple of Hondurans we had. And they all hated blacks, until my boss hired a black mechanic who was a top performer. We had a really ugly argument about racism before his hire but afterwards they had to accept him and I wasn't having it any other way.

My Shanghai born wife has suffered workplace discrimination in a Denny's managed by Hispanics where she was the only Asian working there. She always got the jobs that offered no tips or was sent home earlier than everyone else. The night manager who was the general manager's brother and fresh out of jail was stealing her tips. Some workers would pull at the corners of their eyes and say "hey Chino" followed by laughter. She got the last laugh when she earned her BSEE and left them in her dust professionally and financially. Her old boss eventually apologized for mistreating her but to this day I won't eat there.

The funniest one I saw was in Papua New Guinea. We had a TV show on in the oil camp about natives in Zimbabwe who lived in mud huts. Some of the local workers happened to enter the room and started pointing and laughing at the Zimbabweans. Never mind they lived in grass huts with no electricity or any kind of plumping just outside the camp and there were plenty of their own living equally primitive lives in bamboo and thatched huts wearing leaves for garments ("Arse-grass it was called) in the area.
