10 year old child... Oh man what a horribly messed up world we live in :/

12 ( +13 / -1 )

The sick, perverted anti-abortionists would have this poor innocent child who was raped being forced to go through with a pregnancy. As a 10 year old.

Anti-abortionists are morally bankrupt, evil human beings. If there is a hell we can be certain thats where they are heading.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

These pro-lifers would rather see a child's life and body ruined by forcing her to have a baby than to do the sane and logical thing of allowing her to get an abortion. Talk about having your priorities messed up. The poor girl is already going to suffer trauma from this horrible ordeal, possibly for the rest of her life, and they want to add to her hell by forcing her to give birth? Incomprehensible. They need to reevaluate their brains.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

None of the above is true. The Ohio law has provisions to protect the health of the mother. There was NO need for the poor girl to be sent to Indiana for her abortion.

This case was very strange from the beginning. What is NOT mentioned above is that the alleged rapist is also an illegal immigrant. No mention of the status of the victim, but sadly there is a lot of sexual abuse in the illegal community in the US. Women are routinely assaulted on the journey to the US from the south, and it continues once they arrive.

Also, the police were not contacted by the victim or her parents/guardians. The doctor who saw her in Ohio and also the doctor who helped her in Indiana both failed to report the case to the police.

This was handled very poorly by all involved.

Republicans love sticking their nose into what should be a privacy issue. So much for getting government off your back.

As was mentioned above, Jim Jordan and other Repubs put out tweets, now DELETED, saying this tragic rape case was entirely A LIE - MADE UP - A FAIRY TALE...

https://www.businessinsider.com/jim-jordan-deletes-tweet-10-year-old-abortion-another-lie-2022-7

How do you think that made this poor 10 year old victim and her family feel? That's the level of sympathy and compassion you get in MAGA-world...

Besides the agony of the rape and its aftermath, the Repubs now want to force motherhood on victims like her...

We had our very own extremists saying the same thing here on JT. But now the right-wing sheeple have shifted their talking points as we can see in this very thread of comments.

Yeah the Democrats and their media hiding the details of a child rape because it was done by an illegal immigrant and a HIPPA violating abortion activist they wanted to protect? Isn’t the win you think it is.

state law allowed the abortion in Ohio. The abortion activist doctor needed the travel to happen to support the narrative.

-12 ( +3 / -15 )

Yeah the Democrats and their media hiding the details of a child rape because it was done by an illegal immigrant and a HIPPA violating abortion activist they wanted to protect? Isn’t the win you think it is.

BINGO! They go from "its all a lie!" to "well, maybe its real but the suspect is an illegal!"...

They'll do anything to this poor young victim to further their MAGA-hate...

state law allowed the abortion in Ohio. The abortion activist doctor needed the travel to happen to support the narrative

No it wouldn't - and the doctor could have been arrested...by Repub Big Government....forcing motherhood on a 10 year old...

Sick....

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Think everyone is missing the worst thing about this story- a young girl was brutalized and possibly traumatized for life. If the suspect did the crime, one can hope that he enjoys a long and violent stay in the general population of a prison, learning what it feels like to be a victim of such a crime.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Yeah the Democrats and their media hiding the details of a child rape because it was done by an illegal immigrant

So the Democrats and the media are hiding details that somehow you are privy to. Odd.

and a HIPPA violating abortion activist they wanted to protect? Isn’t the win you think it is.

There is a difference between reporting the information to police, and illegally disclosing confidential medical information. This isn't how HIPPA works.

It's good now that the rightists here finally acknowledge the rape did happen after previously claiming it was a lie and made up.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Now to the general issues raised;

In Ohio, a child like this does have access to abortion. A doctor can sanction the procedure with no interference from any government agency- it is entirely the doctor's decision.

Anyone trying to make this case a political football should be ashamed. That goes for both sides. Those who called it a hoax need to own up to their mistake. Those using it as a political weapon without looking at the facts need to shut up.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Attorney General says different-

It drew scrutiny as well from the state attorney general, who said that exceptions to Ohio law would have allowed the girl to obtain an abortion in the state and who said he had not heard of a report being filed in the case.

still many details being withheld but now that some evidence had been provided the case is progressing as it should.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Because some actual evidence that was withheld for 3 weeks is now being presented.

I think the term I used was “highly dubious”. which it was without any case against the person who did it.

congratulations? The narrative lives now absent any further revelations that might still be withheld.

Absolutely false. The Ohio law has provisions to protect the health of the mother, but they won't kick in until you can say that she would likely die. And at this stage no doctor wants to get prosecuted for making that call. Which is why these laws are evil. It's also why she had to travel to Indiana.

This case was very strange from the beginning. What is NOT mentioned above is that the alleged rapist is also an illegal immigrant.

That's because it is irrelevant.

A fair bit more was said than "highly dubious." Actually that wasn't even said.

A ten year old child is a ten year old child.

What on earth has citizenship status of anyone got to do with anything?

Anyone making an argument against easy access to a procedure for this child rape victim is, quite frankly, a despicable individual.

Jim Jordan. Covered for a sexual predator at Ohio State and continues to lie about it. Met with Trump to plan an overturning of an election and continues to lie about it. Probable future Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

What hath God wrought?

Victory celebration of a young child being raped by an illegal to score points on the internet.

Quite the opposite. That the abortion laws in Ohio would force a 10 year old to carry her pregnancy is evil. That isn't point scoring. That is shocking.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The girl's ordeal of travelling to neighboring Indiana for the medical procedure was highlighted by President Joe Biden recently as he signed legislation aimed at helping women seeking abortions.

The fact that this is the rarest of cases is the main reason why it should be ignored as rationale for changing abortion laws in all 50 states.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

People were literally calling it a fake story, until it came out that the suspect is an undocumented person

No until any person at all was charged. which happened today just happened to be an illegal.

Now that there is a suspect identified it means it is much more likely this happened than just an activist doctor claiming so.

but of course the accused gets a trial first. And the doctor should lose her license for HIPPA violation.

Congratulations, you are halfway to being proven right. Let me know when he is convicted and her license taken then we can wrap this up.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Quite the opposite. That the abortion laws in Ohio would force a 10 year old to carry her pregnancy is evil. That isn't point scoring. That is shocking.

The law doesn’t say that. The attorney general of the state says so.

the point scoring on liberal side requires that she had to be forced to leave the state to get the abortion.

if not, you score no points. And still have to deal with crimes of an illegal.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

No until any person at all was charged. which happened today just happened to be an illegal.

Doesn't matter. People called it all a lie, without having any sort of knowledge. Hell, conservatives in the article are still calling it a lie, and posters here are still claiming there are exceptions in Ohio, and the girl didn't actually have to cross state lines to get an abortion.

The same attorney general that had dismissed the story as a likely "fabrication." Yeah, well I wouldn't put too much stock in what he says. The law does not have an exception for rape.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Not posters. The attorney general of Ohio. Who knows more than you or me.

But you didn't say that it might be a lie, you said it was a lie. Were you wrong?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

The law doesn’t say that. The attorney general of the state says so.

You mean the Ohio Attorney General who claims the whole story is made up. Sure, I believe him.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, a Republican, strongly suggested to Fox News late Monday that the case was a fabrication, and there was "not a whisper" of evidence to back up the claims that a 10-year-old rape victim had left Ohio to have an abortion.

https://japantoday.com/category/world/rape-of-10-year-old-jolts-us-abortion-debate#comments

Sure, I will unquestioningly support the claims of the Attorney General, whose job it is to defend the Ohio Abortion. Totally.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

When discussing the rape and unplanned pregnancy of a 10 year old, calling her a liar, then saying it was the media and Democrats that hyped it, distracting with a non-existant Hippa violation and then going all-in on the illegal immigrant angle is vile behavior, but hardly less than we have come to expect from some.

The talk about "scoring some points" is particularly vile. Probably the mark of someone who has never had to worry about a daughter being forced into sex against her will.

All-in-all, pretty disgusting behavior.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

But you didn't say that it might be a lie, you said it was a lie. Were you wrong?

To be clear, you were very, very insistent that this was all a big lie by the dems, to try to screw over the right with culture wars.

Again, are we to understand that you were wrong when you were very clear that this absolutely was a lie by democrats?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

still many details being withheld but now that some evidence had been provided the case is progressing as it should.

My dude you said that the girl didn’t exist and that it was all made up because you read an opinion piece from the far-right “PJ Media” whose most famous journalist is actually a plumber. Maybe it’s time for you to take a time out.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

The fact that this is the rarest of cases is the main reason why it should be ignored as rationale for changing abortion laws in all 50 states.

“Things that are rare don’t happen”, is it? Okay, strike down laws against murder since it’s very rare.

Hell, why have laws at all? Most people are decent. Just let criminals be because they’re so rare!

”The party of law and order”. Shameful rapist lovers, that’s what the GOP is.

It IS possible for two things to be right at the same time.

It is possible that the Attorney General didn't hear about the case. From what is here, the suspect wasn't charged until July 12, weeks after the assault. Once he heard, the wheels went in motion.

It is also possible that he is right in saying that the victim could have been treated in Ohio by a doctor. He stated clearly that she did not need to leave the state. As the AG, he has the final say.

As an aside, not sure why I got SEVEN downvotes for saying that the worst thing about the case is that there is a victim, regardless of everyones' political beliefs. That's just cold.

Unless the doctor has a hotline to the AG, he's not risking it. No, the AG is lying because it make Ohio abortion laws look bad. The law categorically does not have an exception for rape. So you tell me how an abortion could have been legal.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

And he's full of it, just like people making this claim. There isn't a carve out in the abortion ban for minors.

In order for her to be able to get an abortion, she would have had to wait until her life was at immediate risk. Is that really what should happen? Should rape victims, minors no less, be forced to carry kids they can't care for up until their life is put in danger? This is shameful.

Anti-abortionists are morally bankrupt, evil human beings.

A 10 y/o is not old enough or developed enough for motherhood. Even being pregnant can kill her at that age. She didn't ask for this. RAPE DESTROYS. She will be psychologically damaged for life at the very least. And these 'pro-lifers' don't seem to give a DAMN yet they cheer for capital punishment and they rah-rah war on TV. Go figure that one.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

2020, the exception is not for rape, it is for the health of the mother. And fortunately, at such an early stage, it can be done medically rather than surgically. The law also states (thankfully) that the expectant mother cannot be punished for seeking or having an abortion.

Again, not true. The mother's life must be at risk. It wouldn't be at risk at such an early stage.

Why must rape victims, regardless of age, be forced to give birth anyways? What good does that serve?

And as I said previously in answer to you, no doctor in Ohio will make that call at this point in the pregnancy, because they face the full weight of the law if anyone questions whether they can prove that the mother's life was in danger.

The AG isn't taking that risk, so he can say anything. And in this case lies.

Because it undermines the whole pretence of the law that every unborn life is sacred.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

2020hindsight, don't be offended, but I will take the word of a state Attorney General over a random person on the internet...especially in this case.

Even IF a case actually managed to make it to court, it would be easy to prove that a 10 year old child is in danger if they cannot get an abortion. There is no risk to the doctor.
