Looks like Obama is doing a great job!

There's no doubt in my mind Gadhafi's days are numbered.
My biggest concern is how many more human casualties and damage this mad man can cause against humanity.

Who would listen to these war mongers??
WordStar
Why do Americans naively expect their president to be omnipotent? What would you have him do? Halt the earth's rotation or suspend the force of gravity?
manfromamerica
wordstar -
Should we expect him to know on a basic level what is happening around the world? yes. Unfortunately he fails, even though he's got state department, CIA, teams and teams of "advisors" and "experts"...
Or, if you prefer to take it the other way, Obama's speech in Cairo was so inspirational that he caused the entire Middle East to spontaneously erupt in the enlightenment of democracy. So then, great job Obama! And to the Middle East - you're welcome!
Of course, Obama should have known the miraculous power of his speeches and therefore should have been prepared for the events we now see...

People that want to establish a no-fly zone over a conflict region. But hay, don't listen to war mongers, I hear Tripoli is nice this time of year, go have yourself a nice vacation. I'm a little busy so you'll just have to have fun by yourself this time.

I am extremely against war.
But self defense is another story.
I would hope that those capable use their power to protect those in danger instead of sitting on the sidelines awaiting an outcome.

Khadafee making homicidal, fratricidal use of the jets and weapons France and other Euro powers sold him .
Say, got any photos on file of the depraved dictator shaking hands with sleazy old Villepin, or Chirac, or some other EU hypocrite, back when the Colonel was their man????

SolidariTEa; Most of its recent sales were from the UK. After the USA's no 1 poster boy Tony Blair went to Libya shook hands with Gaddafi (you can find the pics online) to secure oil contracts for BP. You see you cannot trust the God fearing Christian dudes like Blair and Bush who helped sow the seeds for all this turmoil.
The right wingers, especially Americans have short and selective memories.
SolidariTea
But of course. Is there any outrageous lage scale abuse of power on the planet at this moment that Bush (and Blair) aren't personally responsible for?

Africa ,Middle East and Libya never change, always some kind violent power struggles/miltary coups/rebellions.
Only way out,is via education, education and education.
Education to a more educated and advanced nation,is only way. Right now, these nations, are tryin to improve themselves.
They just not gettin lucky,to build great dynamic leaders/citizens . Lack of proper education and proper knowledege, traps the people to be exploited by foreign money and other ills.

Do they never learn from the past, I mean seriously. How did providing arms to Iraq and Afganistan work out?
SolidariTea
The US provided Saddam with very very little. France and Russia were his big sugardaddies.
How did Afghanistan work out? Soviets left in defeat and Arab-backed Taliban moved in. It's not the guns, it's the people, their religion and tribalism that is the problem.
Good_Jorb
Considering Reagan said he would do whatever it takes to insure that Iraq beats Iran(including removing Iraq from terrorist list), you are being far to modest in what the US provided to Saddam.
Arab-back Taliban? Really? Who trained, armed and financed Osama bin Laden and al qaeda fighters who later become the Taliban. Not any Arab nation, the USA via the CIA.
But you answered my question about learning from the past. If you don't know your history, then you can't learn from.

Bush and Blair, after the revelations of AQ Khan's help in deliviering a nuke to the Mohammedan world, got crazy Khadafee to scrap his program.
In hindsight it strikes me as very prescient. They deserve a lot of credit. Imagine if Libya still had nukes...
Goodjorb likes to think he really knows the region and its history. An expert would give us a prediction for things in Libya. So where is yours????
Good_Jorb
I never said that I really know the region and it's history. I have said nothing that isn't anything more then basic knowledge of world history. It's common knowledge that US provided weapons are/were being used to fight against US soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan. I don't think it would be far fetched to assume that Libya could/may use those weapons in future against the US, even if it's just an anecdotal inference based on prior events in the middle east. As for my prediction of Libya, it's not mine to make, it's up to the peoples of Libya to choose their own path.
