The US has said some harsh things about Britain and France in this regard in the past. It must have been hard to take.

U.S. troops had desecrated copies of the Quran and killed or raped Musl

That was true...just Bush covering all those facts not until the press exposed it!America's wars in iraq and afghanistan was dirty and nothing good enduring. Thats why the Taliban was stronger than ever!

Bit of a bummer finishing basic training and getting the chop before experiencing life in the real army.

Turning to the accussed, it seems that soembody somewhere stuffed up. In the current climate, you would imagine that a US citizen who was thrown out of an islamic country (one whose society has nutured its fair share of terrorists remember the USS Cole) would end up on a database somewhere. Apparently not it seems.

Also this home-grown terrorist scenario is probably the one development that the US (and the West in general) fears most because the invisibility of such people is their greatest weapon. Remember the London bus bombings?

the media has really played down this case.. I don't know why its not parallel to that of the Museum shooter. they both did this out of hate.

timo: if I remember correctly, something was passed about putting American citizens on terror lists. if I find it, I'll post it. But, I think Europe and the US need to wake up to their own domestic terrorists. They are there, and they are black and white - Muslim and Christian. Lib and Conserv. something is gonna blow up soon.

"Thats why the Taliban was stronger than ever!"

Ah, the Taliban were stronger back when they ran their own country; now they are sitting in mountain caves.

So far we have had one incident where recruiters were physically assaulted, and killed. The US has a sorry history of racist killings and assaults, including those by cops. The same goes with a history of harassment, assault and murder perpetrated against the abortion clinics and personnel. We shall see whether it will remain an isolated case or whether there will be other "jihadists" in the near future. The violent right-wing is in forces under America's nose. They have a long and rich history of violence, the worst single act being Oklahoma City and worst mass acts being lynchings.

The case of an American-born Islamic extremist charged in a bloody rampage outside a military recruiting station may signal an ominous new wave of violent homegrown jihadists, counterterror officials say.

We have had home grown terrorist for the longest time. From 60's far left radicals to the present day far right christians. The new ones to join the fray are the uneducated so called Jihadist.

How sad it is that all these folks just can not be American's.

I say take everyone one of these terrorist and haul them off to a super max and let them have fun for the rest of their lives......

Altria at 03:33 PM JST - 15th June This Carlos fella sounds like a right nutter.

He wasn't just a nut, he was an uneducated nut.

He did not have the good sense not to say yes. What kills me about this guy was not the fact that he was stupid. What kills me is the fact that he had some REEEEEEAAL stupid morons following him.

His group actually believed that he was born in Afghanistan. He whipped them into a fury with the belief he was doing something for his country.

These guys were stupid.

jean,

Had it crossed your mind the long and rich history of violence from Islamic terrorists, or are they simply forced into it by US foreign policy?

"This Carlos fella sounds like a right nutter." Altria, stop calling him Carlos. You'll get him really angry. His name's Abdulhakim Mu... or something.

I was referring to homegrown Islamic violence and, specifically, to attacks on military recruiters. Islamic violence outside the US is well-known, the slaughter of thousands of leftists by Jihadists in Indonesia being one example out of many. Military recruiters have been subject to protests but I do not recall a case in recent memory when they have been murdered in cold blood. If anyone has a better memory than mine please come forward.

I think people are too quick to take the actions of a handful or random individuals and make an entire case out of it, especially when there are 300,000,000 or so on the other side who prove the exact opposite.
