Can't they get Putin to liberate them? After all the Russians are a lot closer.

Can’t they get Putin to liberate them?

Why not?

It worked in America....

What does the "Chinese-ruled city" mean? It is a Chinese city.

You may as well say, the American-ruled city of New York.

Did U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Saturday urge France to exercise restraint in Paris during the yellow vest protests? The police were much less restrained there with 24 protesters losing eyes.

Is this another CIA attempt to cause another world problem, why the US , Hong Kong was a British protectorate before the handover to the Chinese, so if Hong Kong citizens have a problem it should seek the help of the British, after all they were the ones who put the stipulations in the hand over agreement regarding Hong Kongs citizens rights and the role of the Hong Kong government . China is eventually going to take over Hong Kong ending the ‘one country, two systems’ guarantee when that expires in 2047.

Bad idea. Involving America would just be pouring gasoline on a fire. However sad it is, Hongkongers, you're on your own.

I agree with the freedom-loving HK citizens. The US should help bring democracy to HK. Either through Military intervention, or a total ban on all trade with Communist PRC.

Good luck Hong Kong Citizens. Fight back at the evil police and HK government. There will be democracy in HK one day. You should never have to live under Communist dictatorship.

When did Putin liberate the U.S., and from whom? Can't wait for the answer...

Trump has been putting pressure on the Chinese dictatorship to not crack down on HK by tying the HK situation to the trade negotiations.

Either through Military intervention

You know that’s not going to happen, cobber.

Nor should it.

Serrano, if you don't know of Trump's love relationship with Putin, passing notes back and forth with all American diplomats told to go away, of Trump owing millions to the Russian mob because AMERICAN banks realized he was a con artist, and how Putin is running things in America, then you just don't know much. Or you are such a loyal pet who brooks no criticism of Dear Leader.

if you don't know of Trump's love relationship with Putin, passing notes back and forth with all American diplomats told to go away,

And you know this how?

of Trump owing millions to the Russian mob because AMERICAN banks realized he was a con artist, and how Putin is running things in America,

And your proof of that is? Please share it with us because 40 FBI agents couldn’t find it, but you could? Huh...interesting.

then you just don't know much. Or you are such a loyal pet who brooks no criticism of Dear Leader.

I see.....

TheRat, apparently you don't know Russia Gate's over. Heck even most of the Dems have given up on it.

It’s not as if Chinese people are incapable of forming open and prosperous societies, as the examples of Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan attest. It’s just that greater integration into the Motherland inevitably means an inevitable reversion to a much lower threshold Chinese mean, together with a commensurate loss of many of the hallmarks that distinguish these places from the run of the mill rest.

If you guys protested the way you do in Hong Kong anywhere in America you'd be getting shot at by US SWAT teams.

Patently incorrect.

The students in Tiananmen built a replica of the state of liberty before the CCP's tanks rolled through the crowds.

"Hong Kong returned to China under a "one country, two systems" formula that guarantees freedoms not enjoyed on the mainland. Many Hong Kong residents fear Beijing is eroding that autonomy."

What kind of freedom that mainlands don't have ? The mainland is 10 times better than HK,

HK has no electricity, no water, paid no tax, all offered free by the mainland, and that should end.

" and how Putin is running things in America"

What other mad conspiracies do you believe in?

If he's running it, he's not doing a very good job. The Rat is onto him.....

That's not true at all. The US is very tolerant of protest and riots by people wanting free college education, subsidized abortion or other approved subjects. The SWAT teams would only be called in for people who want freedom of speech or other un-American nonsense.

What kind of freedom that mainlands don't have ? The mainland is 10 times better than HK,

Try calling Xi a Pooh bear, or perhaps join Falun Gong. You'll soon find yourself donating your vital organs to wealthy foreigners in need.

Hello kitty 321:

More akin to Puerto Rico, not new York City. Hong Kong and Puerto Rico do not pay China and US tax, respectively. New York City residents are required to pay federal income and other taxes.

The US hasn't forced the independence of Taiwan or Tibet, so Hong Kong shouldn't expect much. Sure, the American people want for Hong Kong to be free and democratic, but they aren't going to war for Hong Kong. If they want to be free, then they will need to find a way to accomplish it themselves. That won't happen until Beijing has much larger issues, somewhere else.

Hong Kongers should look at other parts of the world where the USA has attempted to force democracy before calling for this. China today, isn't the same as China from the 1960s.

Akie, captain whataboutism? Same for comments about Russia. This is about the CCP, Hong Kong and an idea that the USA has any capability to press for Hong Kong independence.

Hong Kong will need to bring the mainland Chinese with them into freedom and true democracy to gain their freedom and democracy too. They need to get mainland Chinese on their side.

The best they can hop for in the next year is for Lam to resign and perhaps to have more leadership positions directly selected by votes of the people.

theFu, first of all, these rioters and traitors don't represent HK people at all, period. Secondly, HK people lead a much better life than any part of the world, averagely speaking. Thirdly, if the terrorists rioters are not happy with HK, they do have freedom to leave, they can liberate themselves by leaving HK. HK is China's HK, HK is 1.6 billion people's HK.

Fat chance! A snowball's chances in Hades, especially since the POUTus can't be relied on for help. Trump kisses dictators' fannies, doncha know that?

Pretty much kicks the last twig out from under the pretext that the protesters are organized locally. But, like the attacks on civilians and police by the 'peaceful protesters' that kicked the last twig out from under that pretence, the media and politicians will keep pretending, long after the curtain of lies that the pretence was built around lies tattered and torn at their feet.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

What kind of freedom that mainlands don't have ? The mainland is 10 times better than HK,

This is hilarious! Do you actually believe this?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

What kind of freedom that mainlands don't have ?

The freedom to not be 'disappeared' by their government, and the freedom to not have their organs harvested and sold by their government.

Chip Star, the major reason for the demonstration in HK is disappointing economic outlook and diminished opportunities for young people, all under democratic colonial control. The price for almost everything is high, except violence.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Hong Kong is sometimes called the Asian division of the CIA and the US wants the 1000's of intelligence officers there to continue functioning without any interference from China. The US is funding, arming, training, and guiding the protestors.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Trump can not wave a magic wand to help the Hong Kongers. Best he can do is put pressure on the Chinese regime, and he is actually doing that.... and getting lambasted for it by the Western corporate media and their "orange man bad" believership. Go figure...

Traitors? Really? People breaking things and harming people don't represent anyone, though they believe they do. That goes for the 1% of the protestors and 1% of the police behaving badly. The other 99% just want a better future for Hong Kong, which includes full democracy.

Once people have a taste of democracy, they want more. It is almost like capitalism. Once you have a taste of the control over your own destiny, you want more. People paid by the CCP just haven't learned this first lesson, I suppose. They clearly have learned the second - China is full of capitalist, with support from the govt.

HK will need to bring all of China along with their democracy achievements. That is good for everyone in China ... except the 5000 CCP leaders today.

A press that goes after the leaders, a govt that doesn't sensor public news, elections where the people get to choose who runs and who wins. That is my hope not just for Hong Kong, but for all of China.

My sediments exactly. But I remember when Tiananmen Square started up and I saw it live on NBC-TV and there was a total video blackout as the tanks started rolling. Everything else, including the gory pictures was smuggled from China itself.
