I want it to be written somewhere because it isn’t being written anywhere else. South Korean President Moon ran in his country on a platform of normalizing relations with North Korea and he got flogged by hard-line conservatives and the conservative press in his country for it. He won and has worked tirelessly since Thanksgiving to establish a line with Pyongyang. While Trump has paraded around with his hands in the air like some beaten senseless prizefighter after the 15th round of a fight he knows he lost, Moon has continued to negotiate and maintain his contact with Kim and Pyongyang. It has always been Moon doing the heavy lifting despite the Trump administration’s obvious effort to minimize South Korea’s voice at the table while holding hand wringing sessions with the Japanese and Chinese leaders to discuss the fate of the two Koreas.

The libbys and lefties just cannot face it: this has been and is being astutely played by US Presudent Trump.

Its entirely because of him that Kim is going for the summit.

All the histrionics from the left cant alter that.

That was a quick pivot from nothing to give credit about to give credit to anyone else but Trump.

And once again we have the right claiming success and winning, before anything has been successful or won.

Don't you people get tired of looking silly for that?

So are you of the opinion he deserves the nobel for what he's done already? All that peace he's achieved?

That was a quick pivot from nothing to give credit about to give credit to anyone else but Trump.

Give him credit for what - he hasn't succeeded in anything yet.

The whole article just gave Moon credit as did the first poster. So nothing has happened to give anyone credit yet or not?

Nope, nothing. So far it's all just a bunch of words, and no actions.

I could take credit for getting Trump to flip-flop back to agreeing to the meeting, based on my posts here which goaded the right into goading him into going back to the table. But that would be pretty silly.

Until something happens, it's all just talk.

Im really sad to see that getting hostages returned is “nothing” to liberals. Trump does it so well he did it again this weekend too, from Venezuela. 17 hostages in all been returned.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

this is why Trump approval is going up. Regular people are tired of the mental gymnastics to act like Trump has done nothing while at same time blaming him when it was cancelled for a few hours.

If he attends, he got played. And if he cancels, he got played. Goes bad, his fault. Goes well, he had nothing to do with it. Duplicity at its finest.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Strangerland, nobodys claiming success - thats just you putting words in people's mouths.

Um, are you not reading your own posts?

The libbys and lefties just cannot face it: this has been and is being astutely played by US Presudent Trump.

It's impossible to know if something is 'astutely played' until something has successfully happened. Yet you're claiming that Trump has astutely played this situation. That requires the assumption that Trump was successful in his playing - which he isn't.

So contrary to your claims that no one is claiming success, not only is someone claiming it, you are the one who claimed it. And I didn't even bother linking to Blacklabel's comments which contain the same underlying, yet incorrect, assumption.

Fair enough. That was something. Remember when Clinton did it too?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Why do people keep calling them 'hostages'? Weren't they detained for breaking the law of the country they were in?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Exactly. They were convicted criminals in the respective countries, yet the US calls them hostages.

However America can hold innocent people for decades without stating actual facts and reasons, and they call them criminals, when in fact they actually are hostages held by the US government.

Crazy: "It has always been Moon doing the heavy lifting despite the Trump administration’s obvious effort to minimize South Korea’s voice"

Yeah, Trump's such a light-weight. Or...

Well said!

I don't speak Korean, so I can't confirm, but I've heard that the first statement of Moon's suggesting Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize, in its original Korean, was more akin to saying, "I just want results, I don't care who gets the credit. Give it to Trump for all I care." After it became apparent to the world that Trump and his fan base really ****really want a Peace Prize to undercut Obama's legacy even more, that was the point when it seemed like Moon started explicitly saying Trump was essential to the peace process. It really does look to me like he is selflessly working to better both Koreas, and if giving undeserved credit to Trump is the price to keep him from screwing it up, Moon is willing to pay it. Because his mission is more important than his pride.

South Koreans did a good job electing him.

I don't know where anyone gets off saying that my president shouldn't get credit for anything yet. Has it been forgotten that 2 very historical things have already been accomplished. 1. Three Americans have been returned to U.S. soil from N.K.

Credit is due for that one, though I'm not entirely sure it's to him. It's not like he actually went and got them back himself, like Clinton dide.

1 nuclear facility has been destroyed. That was done through very brunt diplomacy 7…

From all accounts, it collapsed on it's own well before it was destroyed. This may actually be the driving force behind Kim's sudden change of attitude lately - with no MAD, he may feel particularly weak.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Exactly. They were convicted criminals in the respective countries, yet the US calls them hostages.

What was the crime that NK had to send them to a labor camp? Let's cut through the BS, these people really didn't do anything that constitutes as a serious crime that would validate such harsh conditions as a NK prison camp? Of course they were hostages as well as bargaining chips.

However America can hold innocent people for decades without stating actual facts and reasons,

Two wrongs don't make one right.

and they call them criminals, when in fact they actually are hostages held by the US government.

Example? Who's the hostage? And please don't ramble off Gitmo.

@Christopher

That was done through very brunt diplomacy.

Interesting opinion. Should I look up ‘brunt’ in the same dictionary as ‘cofeve’?

Ok, that's your personal interpretation, you have no way of knowing how Kim feels either way. LOL

You guys....

" After it became apparent to the world that Trump and his fan base really *****really* want a Peace Prize to undercut Obama's legacy even more,

Ok, so we want Trump to get a Nobel Peace Prize because he's White? Now that was just beyond stupid. By the way, what legacy did the anointed one have besides overseeing a sluggish economy?

that was the point when it seemed like Moon started explicitly saying Trump was essential to the peace process.

No one else is going to push Kim to give up his nukes. Personally, if he does actually gets this done, I tell the Norwegians to give it to Bolton or Mattis.

It really does look to me like he is selflessly working to better both Koreas, and if giving undeserved credit to Trump is the price to keep him from screwing it up, Moon is willing to pay it. Because his mission is more important than his pride.

Wow, the Unicornverse is just vast where the liberals reside. Moon doesn't understand the physique of the North and Kim. If Kim does have nefarious motives, Moon would be an easy target for Kim to take out.

South Koreans did a good job electing him.

Hmmmm.....debatable...

Errr bass... the implication with what you just replied is that the reason all you guys didn't like Obama was because he was black. Nobody mentioned color except you. You might not mean it like that but that's how it reads.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Strangerland, yes, 'its all just talk'. Hello? This is diplomacy. They havent even met yet!

so quick to condemn.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Blacklabel: this is why Trump approval is going up. Regular people are tired of the mental gymnastics to act like Trump has done nothing while at same time blaming him when it was cancelled for a few hours.

Great.

So what do you think they will agree to at the meeting? Do you think NK will give up their nukes? Will they make demands? How much is China involved?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Exactly. It's talk, which is good, but NK has done a lot of talking over the years, and it's not led to denuclearization.

You also didn't have Trump, Mattis, Bolton and Pompeo working together as a team.

The only thing I'm condemning is the premature claims of 'winning' and 'success', when there hasn't yet been any success or winning.

Winning as in denuclearization, No, I will give you that, but as far as starving them out, bringing them back to the table and turning up the sanctions and will continue to do so is a significant win.

Heh, Bass has come to begging people to not 'ramble off' the thing that proves their point. I guess he's getting tired of being proven wrong all the time.

You have never proven me wrong yet, I have no idea of what you are talking about....Strange, lol.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

This is a very complicated issue involving multiple issues other than just denuclearization. There is also re-unification, ending the state of war, Chinese trade restrictions with North Korea, US-China trade, US trade sanctions preventing access to world markets, US troops in the South, Kim’s concerns about not getting the Qaddafi treatment, and more.

Japan’s concerns about its abductees seems to be getting side lined for the time being. This all seems to be quite a lot to maneuver through in the next two or three weeks.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

-Facility not destroyed but “collapsed” and unusable from months before. OK, so Kim is stuck at a few steps before achieving full MAD.

-Kim is not stupid, he and his aides carefully analyze everything about Trump.

-Kim comes to the conclusion that Trump means business and will not sit at negotiating table under the other parties terms. (Cancelling of the initial meeting)

-Kim knows that Trump, from past business dealings, will not hesitate to withdraw from a multi-billion dollar deal that does not favor him, and will declare bankruptcy without fear of ruining his reputation to cut losses at an early stage.

-Kim realizes that he himself may be considered a “liability” to “liquidated” in short order.

-Such a notion scares the shi-te out of Kim.

-Kim apologizes for his foreign minister’s bluster and grovels back to the negotiating table, this time under Trump’s terms.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to "complete" denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and to a planned meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Sunday.

Does KIm Jong Un define "denuclearization" the same way we do? As CVID? Or is Moon pushing his own political agenda ahead of ours?

More racist than stupid, but I'll let you critique your own strawman arguments however you like.

By the way, what legacy did the anointed one have besides overseeing a sluggish economy?

Well, there's that Nobel Peace Prize that drives Republicans apoplectic for one...
