But, but, but MTG said he was just a nice Christian white boy who loved his country? Could she have been…wrong?

Surprise, surprise, people willing to betray their country don't have the best morals. Maybe he would be better in Russia after all.

Glad this fella was caught before he carried out his sick fantasies.

Seems like some pre-crime type conjecture is being used to smear a leaker of intelligence secrets.
Where has that happened before?
Algernon LaCroix
I have a sneaking suspicion you're onto something here.
Blacklabel
Gotta keep that focus on the leaker.
not the content that he leaked that showed his government lying to and spying on the rest of the world such as South Korea.
sing a song about that.

Their are 10 of thousands whack jobs in the military, lots are caught by civilian official, the military has no say in their prosecution

“culling the weak minded.”
Putting him behind bars for a long time would be a start.

Governments expect to be spied on. It's not illegal and you could argue it helps them improve their processes to defend against it.

Right, let's talk about something that all governments do. Even to their allies. That's quite the conspiracy!

"clever" seems a bit of a stretch. Perhaps you were just being polite....

So, 14 year-old master spy Johnny Maga was not only an espionage genius capable of acquiring boxes of CIA files, but also a homicidal maniac who wanted to murder scores of people with his guns and ammunition? How lucky we are that those heroic detectives, sorry journalists, from Bellingcat and the New York Times were able to inform the FBI just where this monster was lurking.

Yes, isnt that interesting. the media helping the FBI find a leaker?
He must have leaked something that was not only true, but super inconvenient to the regime.

Not making any excuses for members of the Texeira family here. But, if you don't raise your kids to have a certain degree of self awareness, social media will eat them alive.
Unfortunately, many parenrs are too absorbed in SM themselves to spare any times for their children.

Or in other words, a typical member of the MAGA-faithful...
If he hadn't leaked the classified, he would probably have shot up an FBI office or took a hammer to a senior citizen...
MAGA-family values...

Yet some swear he's a patriot, misunderstood by those who are the ones really destroying the country. Molotov cocktails, racial threats, mass shootings and standoffs with federal agents? Sounds pretty familiar and the perps almost always come from people who look just like him. From McVeigh to Koresh to January 6th insurrectionists to Charlottesville, the list goes on and on.

"Regime" is a term typically associated with anti-democratic, unelected governments. The United States has a government chosen in a free and fair election and only a conspiracy nut would claim otherwise. Oh, wait...
And there was a time, when using one's position in the military to steal and dissemanate classified documents would have been considered by all parties to be treasonous and worthy of severe punishment.
Guess we can close the book on that chapter of history, eh? Now it's really a case of which side they are leaking (or withholding, obstructing, tweeting) classified materials for....
Seems like I heard of someone about to be under federal indictment for that kind of thing recently. Perhaps he can recommend a good lawyer for this young man. Seems like he needs one.
On the other hand, considering the lawyers he retains, perhaps this kid should stick with what he's got.

Too bad Teixeira was never exposed to the US War Department's 1947 anti-fascist educational film, "DON'T BE A SUCKER" when he was a teenager. Too bad US schools don't show this to their own fledgling little fascists before they "grow up" to cause serious damage. Too "woke"? Young Teixeira is undoubtedly a victim, the end-product of a bad education and knows not what he does. I hope the court will not impose any cruel or unusual punishment on him by banging him up for 30 years. He should be given a chance to re-educate himself. There are other more obvious evil-doers who come to mind, with fewer excuses and more deserving of a draconian sentence.

Every nation keeps secrets and as a result every nation spies on every other nation. Doesn't matter if the nation spied on is friend or foe. Everyone wants to know what's on the mind of their counterparts in other nations, what their intentions are and are they about to do something dramatic that might affect them. If that bothers you, and it should not, then that is your problem. You can be double-damn sure every US ally spies on the US at every opportunity. I don't know if you ever had a clearance when you were active duty but it you did you would already know this and have been shown the concrete examples of such occasions where our allies were caught poking around where they shouldn't have been.

So I have some experience with Discord and you get a lot of young immature kids who post stuff to show off. He didn't have a handler with a foreign intelligence agency, wasn't funneling information to a foreign nation but posting it on one of the thousands of Discord groups out there. It apparently sat there for months before being noticed for what it is. There are thousands of these discussion groups on Discord yakking about everything from foreign affairs to vacuum collecting. Lots of kids and adults, lots of bad manners, crude videos and unfiltered comments. Some of the sites are now being crudely vandalized by Russians posting up child porn and what appear to be pro-Russian videos but they are in Russian so I can't understand them. At least one group I used to be in had to be taken down due to such vandalism. It's the wild west of the internet.

Yes. Trump, too, is anti-Democratic. He tried to overturn the results of the election. EFD's point still stands.
EFD
Like I said, "anti-democratic governments" so seems pretty fitting.
It is also aptly used to describe authoritarian tin-pot dictators who try to overthrow governments because they lose free and fair elections.
So sounds about right in that case.
See a pattern there, little b?

There is a real "regime" in America: the duopoly of the green. Those who even appear to threaten these interests are served absurdly long sentences unless they happen to be wealthy and well-connected to the "regime" and can twist the laws of the land into pretzels.
Mr Kipling
He was pointing out the discrepancy between what the politicians and military leaders were saying and the actual facts of what was happening in Ukraine.
Most of the "intel" released would have been known to the Russians but there may have been some information on info sources compromised and his motivation is questionable.
But one good point to come out of this is that we can see that the west is lying about Ukraine.
stormcrow
What an idiot!
It doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the military.

its good that we know the truth that the government was hiding from us.
if this had been something liberals wanted to hear and not narrative killing truth and total embarrassment for Biden, their media would have protected the source instead of helping the FBI to find him.

Yes. It's good that sensitive information about anti-aircraft batteries was leaked so that Russians can now more accurately target Ukrainian troops. Totally.
TaiwanIsNotChina
On the contrary: the set of facts is the same: both sides have lost a lot of men and Ukraine is struggling with anti-air.
The Russians knew that their Ministry of Defense communications were almost completely compromised? I mean I know their incompetent but to sit there and not do anything about that...
Nope. Basically a nothing burger when it comes to the US.

And what would that be? That these types of traitors and other right wing terrorist all have similar background stories? An obsession with guns and militias, anti government/sympathize with foreign governments, desire to commit mass harm to innocent people, white supremacist tendencies....it's always the same story.
It's been the same since the Oklahoma City terrorist bombing.

He will be going away for a very long time and the family will have to deal with it and other consequences of his crime.
