Or, perhaps the delusion is just becoming more transparent...

Exactly! Authoritarian overreach under the disguise of Covid is worse than any virus. I am so glad to be in Japan where at least some common sense remains.

This piece of journalism has it all wrong, by suggesting the democratic slide occurred during the pandemic
The demographic backsliding is the result of the earlier and ongoing neoliberal pandemic, which has left the social infrastructure of too many states weak and prone to the magical potions sold by populist and neo-fascist politicians, who care little for social justice and democracy.

yes, but only for the moment though…

The Swedish-based body added that the situation is also getting worse in countries that are not democratic. Autocratic regimes have become “even more brazen in their repression,” free speech has been restricted and the rule of law has been weakened, it said.
Sweden is a good exemplar of the question of democratic institutions because it illustrates the differences between freedom and liberty. Sweden has a democratic socialist government and people have the liberty to receive free, high quality medical care, higher education and social and housing support.
The US , for all its cheer-leading of freedom and democracy, has a dazzling variety of choice in the free market, but most do not have the liberty to take advantage of these services without crippling debt.
Japan too has the freedom to vote for many parties in the election, but the liberty to only endure the one party rule of the LDP.

Could have been five if the insurgents and Trump got his way on the 6th Jan!
Even so, the US, lost a lot of democracy with vote suppression laws proliferating.

All the people in my circles who were vaccinated did so because they were forced to by covert vaccine mandates NOT because they were worried about the corona virus!
to say these mandates are supported by the majority is a fallacy!
Peter14
And the counter to that is only one person in my circle got vaccinated that didnt really want it but had to to cross borders for work.
Not in my city or country. It is hugely supported by the majority.

Good on them. Now they even get the benefits of the protection the vaccines offer. It's a win-win!

I'm sure the fully vaccinated contracting and dying from covid or the vaccines themselves would disagree....
Strangerland
Why? It’s not like they would have fared better by not getting the vaccine.
