It's amazing that the US Post Office won't be able to deliver ballots, but has no trouble filling my mailbox every day with catalogs, American chirashi, junk mail, pre-approved credit cards, Costco offers, water bills, electric bills, gas bills, etc.

There are more people getting electric bills than voters, since only 40% of eligible voters cast a ballot. Mostly because voting is held on a work day (Tuesday) and they can't take off work to stand in line outside for 5 hours, like what happened in the primaries of Republican run states who reduced the number of polling stations by more than half, due to the corona virus... How convenient.

Trump said today that he Republicans will never get elected again if mail in voting is allowed.

And yet, Trump will be mailing in his ballot because "The great Republican governor of Florida" has made a secure system.

The hypocrisy and lunacy of Trump and his ilk has stained the US and the world.

I love that he's getting going nuts by Kamal Harris' call to "Lock him up!"

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Amazing how the US is always calling out other countries for their shonky elections yet here we have an apparent first world country unable to carry out an election s fairly.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Just another example of Trump trying to sabotage the election.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

he's just destroying your voting system in broad daylight while Americans do nothing and the entire world watching. It's unreal

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Blacklabel:. more like 17 days to know that on day 15 you are losing by 6000 votes and you need to "find" 7000 votes in a car trunk

You need mental help. You are expecting people to debate situations that completely exist in your imagination.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Bass:. Organizers gave speeches, answered questions and handed out party recommendation pamphlets. Then workers were told that, if they wanted to, they could fill out their mail-in ballots and leave them in a sealed envelope that organizers would turn in on their behalf.

More evidence that the Dems are cheating in the one state they have no chance of losing?

Do you know how silly that sounds? What's next....Repubs cheating to win Texas?

11 ( +12 / -1 )

I'm worried our allies will start distancing themselves from is if they feel the election is not legitimate.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Strange fact: traditionally Republicans have always done better than Democrats with mail-in ballots. This time, however, is going to be very different and even the blindest ideologues on the right can see the mailed-in ballots on the wall and are spooked! The Republicans understand all too well that the sheer number of ballots sent in to avoid the risk of covid contagion will outweigh all their dirty tricks of voter suppression and the votes from the Electoral College.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Republicans and Trump keep making up authoritarian narrative to shift the goalposts of democracy...you don't try to win an election at any cost to the people and standard of your own country.

They are not patriots, they are traitors. America is truly lost.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Blacklabel:. This will happen again, without a doubt whenever and wherever Dems need to "find" some more votes after Election Day.

Completely made up with no supporting evidence whatsoever. That's why you guys always lose in court.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Black:. that’s how they got OC

The Dems got OC because they got more votes. I'm sorry you can't deal with that but I have no reason to believe your fantasies.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

I'm worried our allies

I think Russia, Israel, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Trump allies fully approve of what Trump's doing. I'm sure China supports Trump's tactics. As do North Korea and other authoritarian-ruled nations.

The rest of what had been called 'the free world' shudders.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Are Trump supporters here saying that people will be allowed to vote after the the election day, or do the ballots have to he postmarked by the election day and they are building in time for Trump manufactured delays?

Or do they even know?

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Blaxklabel: More than 1,000 ballots were disqualified in Fresno County because the signature didn’t match the one on file with election officials. The same problem nixed over 1,300 ballots in San Diego County — and over 14,000 statewide. In some of those cases, voting experts say, a family member might have signed for others in the household, which is illegal."

Excellent. So you are saying the safety measures worked.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Postmaster General buys her position by Trump donations, cuts funding, slows postage time, can't deliver ballots in time.

Banana Republic

8 ( +9 / -1 )

The President appoints a new Postmaster General who happens to be a major donor to his campaign. This new Postmaster General immediately cuts work hours, prohibits late deliveries in favor of holding mail over to the next day, removes and dismantles high speed sortation equipment, removes and stores mail boxes and the President says publicly

"Now they need that money in order to make the Post Office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. But if they don’t get those two items that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting.”

No that is incorrect. Individuals will still use mail in voting but he is setting up a situation where he can challenge election results in multiple states. We may have to take to the streets like the people of Hong Kong or Belarus to guarantee our votes are counted.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Well helpfully California passed a law allowing ballots to be received 17 days after the election

Tell the whole truth now, Slick The ballots must be postmarked on or before election day, just like tax returns.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

We shall see.

Um, OK? Trump is going to step into my state and tell us we can't vote by mail while he does?

By the way, as someone who lives overseas, how are you voting? Flying back to vote in person?

(Hint:. Say YES)

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Repubs and Trump supporters are fine with the Postal Service delivering their Social Security or welfare check, their government stimulus check, their bank statements and credit cards, their passports, and their drivers licenses...

But ballots, nope wait...

Donald and Melania just requested their mail-in ballots yesterday....

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/criticizing-voting-mail-trump-lady-request-mail-ballots/story?id=72371423

In Trump's own words, he's actively participating in a fraud....

Kind'a sums up his whole Presidency, doesn't it....

7 ( +8 / -1 )

trump and his flunkies are already starting to dismantle the post office to suppress the vote.

Postal workers are sounding the alarm as mail sorting machines are removed from processing facilities

https://www.yahoo.com/news/postal-workers-sounding-alarm-mail-203218629.html

Vice News' Motherboard reported Thursday that USPS is quietly removing mail sorting machines — the very machines that are responsible for sorting ballots. There's no official explanation for the changes, and it's unclear why the machines would be removed rather than simply not used when not needed. The removals and planned removals are reportedly affecting several processing facilities across the U.S.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Both have ID’s and both are verified Americans and we are talking about two people, we are not talking about flooding the entire nation that can’t be completely verified

Again factually incorrect. Every state requires a signature on any kind of mail in ballot. The only way you receive a ballot is to be a registered voter. To register you had to provide proof of legal residence and a signature. Every ballot mailed in is signature checked against the signature on the voters registration card. If the signatures don't match the ballot is set aside for investigation, meaning it goes to a county district attorney. Since 2013 Colorado has sent mail in ballots to every voter for nearly every election. Fully 70% of those ballots are returned by mail even though the option to vote in person is still used. In that time a grand total of 9 verified instances of voter fraud have been identified by the Heritage Foundation. The ballots themselves have security features built into them like checks and currency does so any attempt to introduce a counterfeit ballot would be obvious to the people, called judges or referees, who inspect the ballots and signatures before the ballot can be counted.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

California passed a law allowing ballots to be received 17 days after the election.

Great idea. Every vote should get counted, even when POTUS holds up the mail.

I would like to know what rationale there could be for cutting PO workforce in the middle of a pandemic and before an election. Except to tamper with the election.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

We'll now see how far and how low the Repubs in the Senate and House will go....

Will they willingly go along with a direct assault on our democracy? Will they turn a blind eye to an autocrat trying to steal an election? Will they be complicit in turning the US into a third world banana Republic?

Before 2016, I would have said no - they wouldn't stoop that low....

Now, after calling Trump a "xenophobic, race baiting, religious bigot", and "ISIL Man of the Year"...to saying he's the greatest President ever....I'm not so sure...

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The simple way to ensure a mail in ballot is received on time is to put a first class postage stamp on it. The Post Office generally handles pre-paid mail as 3rd class mail. But if you put a first class postage stamp on it they have to deliver it within three days. Yes the ballots are postage paid but if you really want to ensure you ballot gets there put a stamp on it. Then there are no excuses.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Do you know how silly that sounds? What's next....Repubs cheating to win Texas?

Texas is looking marginal on the latest polling. But I think Bass is in Hollister California, so dreams that it will turn Red since day.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Perhaps Amazon or FEDEX might be interested in picking up and delivering all mail-in ballots for free? The good will alone would more than offset the costs.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

"In the most overturned liberal court, but that will change very soon."

The US Supreme Court takes cases from the 50 state courts and 13 Federal Appeals Courts. It reverses an average of 70% of the cases it hears. Here are the reversal rates for the Federal Appeals Courts in order:

6th Circuit: 87%

11th Circuit: 85%

9th Circuit: 79%

4th Circuit: 78%

2nd Circuit and Federal Circuit: 68%

6th Circuit: 67%

5th Circuit: 66%

7th Circuit: 48%

1st Circuit and 4th Circuit: 43%

10th Circuit: 42%

The 9th Circuit hears the most appeals of any circuit, over 12,000 per year. That's about 4000 more than the next busiest circuit, the 5th Circuit. Even with that volume the Supreme Court only years about a dozen or fewer cases each year from the 9th Circuit typically reversing 8 or 9 of their decisions and upholding the others. In the whole Federal Appeals bench there are over 60,000 cases heard each year and the US Supreme Court only hears 64 cases total. The reality is the 9th Circuit isn't the most reversed circuit and it has far and away the largest caseload of any Federal appeals court.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Based on 60,00 Federal Appeals nationally and 14,000 or more heard by the 9th Circuit, that circuit hears over 23% of the nations appeals. But out of 64 cases the US Supreme Court hears they only take ten or twelve each year from the 9th Circuit. So out of 23% of the total appeals cases heard in the US the 9th Circuit generates only 13-19% of the challenges the US Supreme Court hears.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

What? You are joking right? Lol.

Nope. I've never read such catastrophically poor arguments in all my years. And I've followed quite a few elections. I'm not sure Trump supporters are supposed to be fooling... possibly themselves.

Looking at the carnage the liberals have allowed to fester over the last few months hope you’re happy with the destruction they caused

Liberals are too busy sitting on the fence to get out there and make change happen. Frankly, the carnage that has been inflicted on Americans by the right and the elites over the years... well, let's just say am surprised this didn't happen sooner.

Hopefully, protesters will tear down the state, brick by brick and build a better America.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I used to believe that being more cosmopolitan and with more international experience, the ex patriot community was generally more “enlightened”. I was mistaken. Some of the posts here are every bit as nativist and conspiracy tinged as back in the states.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Voting by mail will happen whether Trump likes it or not.

Even he does it. Why can't I?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

That should be the 3rd Circuit at 78%, not the 4th Circuit. Sorry, there is no means to make corrections to posts once you post them. Apologies.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Trump says it's all rigged and he's the rigger.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The arguments against mail in voting (which is the same as absentee voting, regardless of what trump-trolls say) are nothing less than an attempt to suppress voting and steal an election that Trump is going to lose HUGE. Period. Full Stop.

There are multiple validation steps to ensure that voter fraud is so uncommon, and the penalties are so severe that it just doesn’t happen. It’s as safe or safer than in-person voting in terms of voter fraud.

Trump is so egotistical (and just plain dumb) that he says the quiet part out loud. I’m paraphrasing here, but basically “I’m not giving the post office more money because I don’t want mail in voting (in a global pandemic).“

And why would that be? Trump is losing by 11 points in the latest national poll and in 5 of the 6 battleground states. But just as he lost the popular vote in 2016, by 3 million votes, he could lose the popular vote by as much as FIVE MILLION votes and still eek out an electoral college win. As much as 1/2 of the voting population plans to vote by mail (global pandemic). In the latest poll 80-85% of people Who plan to vote by mail plan to vote Biden.

THAT’S why Trump wants to suppress the vote. He cannot win a free and fair election. And he is likely to spend the rest of his life in courtrooms (or jail) once he loses Presidential immunity. So he is going to try to disenfranchise a large portion of the population because even with Putin’s help, he would lose in a landslide.

Arguments to the contrary are farcical.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Why don't you strange people change your voting day to a Saturday when a majority can vote? Doesn't sound to complicated does it?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

they are so vehemently against it like voter ID.

Does the constitution say you have to present your driver's license in order to vote? What does the constitution say?

Trump people: This is very important. In order to protect YOUR president from being evicted from the WH you must guard the WH with all your guns in order to protect the US from the socialist Biden so "American doesn't turn into the next Somalia". The socialists are attempting to remove the great leader with voter fraud, and the only way to protect the US from this serious problem is to guard the WH with your lives and your guns, so your children, grand children and great great great (10x) grandchildren can live in the world of Trump and TrumpCare healthcare that no other country can enjoy. Act now!! One-way tickets to the USA are available.

The U.S. Postal Service

The US Postal Service under the command of Trump sycophants is doing Trump/barr's bidding in their far right's ongoing attempts to establish America's first ever fully authoritarian rule. Say achtung America. Or maybe whatever the Russian equivalent term is.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The demographic which supports the man-child the most are the over 65s, nearly half and half. All others have a majority supporting Biden, ESPECIALLY the group which will have no qualms about going to vote in-person - the young adults. So please, go ahead - you'll be hurting your own chances of re-election.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

You never mess with a postal worker, they know everything about people on their postal routes, I guess they can ditch Trump campaign literature in the garbage, instead of delivering it destination

4 ( +6 / -2 )

What a surprise.

But I like the poster here

https://www.businessinsider.com/usps-poster-fascism-rain-snow-mail-2020-8

After the Repubs lose in another surprise rout, there’s gonna be lawsuits and protests like you’ve never seen.

Fixed it for you, comrade.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

After the election of Biden, the Democrats, should nationalize election, and do away with state ID, with a national voters id

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Well helpfully California passed a law allowing ballots to be received 17 days after the election.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

The U.S. Postal Service has sent letters to 46 states and the District of Columbia, warning it cannot guarantee all ballots cast by mail for the November election will arrive in time to be counted,

The electors have from November 4 to January 20 the following year to count the ballots and determine who won. Of course, the American people won't know who won the election and will have to put up with the incumbent President.

Sometimes early count projections have been wrong and in the end, the winner was the other candidate.

Maybe that's another reason to have the Electoral College.....to avoid this potential mail-in voter fraud and delayed count fiasco.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Nope. I've never read such catastrophically poor arguments in all my years. And I've followed quite a few elections.

But the big difference is, you don't and can't vote in the US and you didn't grow up here so....

Liberals are too busy sitting on the fence to get out there and make change happen.

Yes, they are busy causing so much damage to the nation, none of these stores in the minority communities will be coming back, more unemployment, less money, raise in homelessness, crime going up, defunding the police, yeah, they're very busy.

Frankly, the carnage that has been inflicted on Americans by the right

You mean, offering jobs, creating better economic opportunity, supporting and giving incentives to small businesses, closing the financial gap, teaching economic and financial independence, lowering taxes for the middle class, yeah, that's just so horrible.

Hopefully, protesters will tear down the state, brick by brick and build a better America.

With what? Monopoly money, money that's printed at Kinko's? At this rate if the Marxists continue on this trajectory there won't be anything left to rebuild. The country will have the exact same government as Somalia with the same chaos.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

True, it goes both ways of people of the international pond that don’t understand the US system or system of The Americas generally speaking.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

*Well helpfully California passed a law allowing ballots to be received 17 days after the election.*

If the Republicans would have demanded that during Obama’s second term campaign, they would have laughed Republicans out of the room and rightfully so, not to mention it just wouldn’t happen and they know it.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Completely made up with no supporting evidence whatsoever.

In the most overturned liberal court, but that will change very soon. There’s more than enough evidence that’s why liberals are pushing for it, that’s how they got OC. I grew up there and all of my life being there, family there for 3 generations there is No Way OC was going to go blue, impossible, I hear it all the time, it was completely done due to harvesting votes. So when it’s something that can help Democrats they want to the system to remain, if it goes against them, they are so vehemently against it like voter ID.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Its all connected. The Post Office lost billions, with impunity. Trump appoints a new guy to clean it up.

Postal employees want to keep doing things the old way, getting their overtime payments that cost the taxpayers millions. Dems offer them billions of dollars in funding if they support the universal mail in ballot narrative and claim they cant deliver the mail.

Then Post Office union now claims they cant deliver ballots in time to support the Dem political narrative (and get the Dem money), then their union endorses Biden. Strange, huh?

You would think the Post Office would just be focusing on delivering mail.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Do you know how silly that sounds?

Actually, sounds really logical to me.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The simple way to ensure a mail in ballot is received on time is to put a first class postage stamp on it. The Post Office generally handles pre-paid mail as 3rd class mail. But if you put a first class postage stamp on it they have to deliver it within three days. Yes the ballots are postage paid but if you really want to ensure you ballot gets there put a stamp on it. Then there are no excuses.

Makes perfect sense

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Texas is looking marginal on the latest polling.

We know how the polling goes, been through too many of them. Texas will turn blue when California turns red.....unless you harvest votes and increase mail in voting...

But I think Bass is in Hollister California,

Nope, not even close. OC to be more accurate.

The Dems got OC because they got more votes

Uh-Huh....

There is so much potential for mischief here that this process could more accurately be described as “cheat-by-mail.” The U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the Election Administration and Voting Surveys reveal that 16.4 million ballots mailed to registered voters went missing between the 2016 and 2018 elections. All told since 2012 a staggering total of 28.4 million ballots have gone missing. That’s 28.4 million opportunities to cheat.

In 2016, Democrats likely seized control of California’s Orange County - a longtime reliably Republican bastion - through ballot harvesting, based on the difference between Election Day totals and final totals, which showed a huge, anomalous surge in votes to Democrat candidates.

Ballot harvesting wasn’t legalized in California until the 2018 mid-term elections. California’s law allows **anyone to drop off someone else’s mail-in ballot at a polling station. There is no process for vetting or verifying those who deliver the ballots. Democrats dropped hundreds of thousands of ballots off at polling places and flipped seven Republican seats in the process.** Orange County, home of Ronald Reagan and once a bastion of conservatism, has been turned from red to blue virtually overnight.

That’s why Dems won and the only reason why they one. OC never wanted anything to do with the out of control CA liberal agenda, never.

https://www.afa.net/the-stand/culture/2020/04/why-democrats-love-voting-by-mail-it-s-easier-to-cheat/

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The ballots themselves have security features built into them like checks and currency does so any attempt to introduce a counterfeit ballot would be obvious to the people, called judges or referees, who inspect the ballots and signatures before the ballot can be counted.

As if that doesn’t disprove unethical activity wouldn’t or couldn’t take place.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

over 100,000 votes in the 2020 California primary were discarded.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/california-tosses-100-000-botched-mailed-ballots-presidential-primary-n1233754

Would any of these 27,525 be fraud attempts? Its seems strange that this many people wouldnt sign their ballot. I notice they dont give us how many were unsigned and how many didnt match. that would be excellent information to know.

Another 27,525 either didn’t have a signature, or the signature didn’t match the one on record for the voter.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Voting by mail will happen whether Trump likes it or not

We shall see.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Yep mail in working just fine, right? only took 7 weeks to find out who won in New York after 20% of the balots received by mail were thrown out.

At least 65K absentee or mail-in ballots have been rejected this year: report

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/507121-at-least-65k-absentee-or-mail-in-ballots-have-been-rejected-this

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

In Wisconsin, voting didnt turn out how they liked so they just passed a law extending the deadline.

This will happen again, without a doubt whenever and wherever Dems need to "find" some more votes after Election Day.

https://www.npr.org/2020/07/13/889751095/signed-sealed-undelivered-thousands-of-mail-in-ballots-rejected-for-tardiness

In Wisconsin's chaotic April primary, 2,659 ballots were rejected for missing the deadline, but the number could have been much higher. About 79,000 ballots were received after Election Day but within a six-day period that was allowed on an emergency basis.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

We know:

The bill also assures the outcome of close contests won't be known until nearly Thanksgiving, because a provision mandates that envelopes postmarked by Election Day be tabulated if they arrive as long as 17 days later. No other state has that long a grace period to allow for slow postal service.

17 days to arrive from less than 50km away?

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Are Trump supporters here saying that people will be allowed to vote after the the election day, or do the ballots have to he postmarked by the election day and they are building in time for Trump manufactured delays?

More like the other way around.

Organizers gave speeches, answered questions and handed out party recommendation pamphlets. Then workers were told that, if they wanted to, they could fill out their mail-in ballots and leave them in a sealed envelope that organizers would turn in on their behalf.

Some version of the same process — where someone can collect absentee or mail-in ballots from voters and then drop them into a mail box or polling place — is legal in most states. But California’s ballot collection rules are among the most permissive in the nation, with no restrictions on who can gather ballots or how many they can pick up.

https://www.ocregister.com/2020/05/17/what-is-ballot-harvesting-and-how-is-it-affecting-southern-california-elections/

The dumbest thing I ever heard, I wouldn’t allow a stranger to babysit my kids while I’m at work, why would anyone do that? That’s just insane.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

more like 17 days to know that on day 15 you are losing by 6000 votes and you need to "find" 7000 votes in a car trunk that are conveniently post marked 2 weeks ago. or that you need to invalidate 7000 votes for the other side somehow. "signature doesnt match, when I look at it the second time"

This 17 days gives too many people too much time to tamper with the results. it obviously doesnt take 17 days for the ballot postmarked on Election Day to arrive.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

But ballots, nope wait...

Donald and Melania just requested their mail-in ballots yesterday....

Both have ID’s and both are verified Americans and we are talking about two people, we are not talking about flooding the entire nation that can’t be completely verified

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

their absentee ballots, yes. not mail in ballot.

The key is requested. They were not just sent to them based on an inaccurate list of names and addresses.

just requested their mail-in ballots yesterday..

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Oh the statewide numbers were near the bottom of the article. Why couldnt they "find" these voters? and why did 14,000 signatures not match?

"In Los Angeles County, nearly 2,800 ballots were nullified because the voter forgot to sign it, then couldn’t be found to fix the error. Statewide, that careless mistake spiked nearly 13,000 ballots.

More than 1,000 ballots were disqualified in Fresno County because the signature didn’t match the one on file with election officials. The same problem nixed over 1,300 ballots in San Diego County — and over 14,000 statewide. In some of those cases, voting experts say, a family member might have signed for others in the household, which is illegal."

Anyway California is a lost cause but we wont be funding all the other states to just send a ballot to every registered voter. 41% of registered voters dont vote anyway, so we cant have those extra ballots floating around.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

then why 17 days when it doesnt take 17 days for mail to travel 50km or less?

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

The US Postal Service under the command of Trump sycophants is doing Trump/barr's bidding in their far right's ongoing attempts to establish America's first ever fully authoritarian rule. Say achtung America. Or maybe whatever the Russian equivalent term is.

So we should allow Dems to cheat? Why?

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

so who is going to do that for 46 million ballots just in California and how long will it take? 17 days to receive all the ballots, then 1 week to count them, then 1-2 months to investigate by county attorney, then 6 months of lawsuits?

Wouldnt it make more sense to encourage people to just vote in person or follow the absentee ballot process and avoid all of this?

Every ballot mailed in is signature checked against the signature on the voters registration card. If the signatures don't match the ballot is set aside for investigation, meaning it goes to a county district attorney.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Didn't the Democrat state of NY just have a mail in ballot fiasco? Dems want to export the chaos nationwide. I suppose that with the Dems' Russian coup attempt failing apart they will need some new predicate to make another go at it. Got to give it to the Left, they plan ahead to overthrow governments. Almost worked the last time - unfortunately Clinesmith got caught.
