"Transcripts alone are not sufficient evidence of the state of the president's memory,"

The most disingenuous people ever. Pure weaponization of the judiciary.

The most disingenuous people ever. Pure weaponization of the judiciary.

Especially considering Jim Jordan's own contempt of congress.

The most disingenuous people ever. Pure weaponization of the judiciary.

"There's only one reason why the attorney general would do that. He doesn't want us to hear it. That's why," Chip Roy (Texas) said on the House floor Wednesday. "And there's really only two reasons why that would be the case – either the transcript doesn't match the audio, or the audio is so bad that he doesn't want us to hear it."

Meanwhile, two ex-Trump administration aides – former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon – were convicted on contempt of Congress charges for dodging subpoenas by the House select committee on Jan. 6.

Anyway, Garland is being squeezed like a lemon, not a lot of options at this point. Bannon and Navaro were convicted for defying a subpoena and Garland is doing the same. So now the guy needs to hand over the tapes or he himself could wind up behind bars.

Jim Jordan has a long history of running cover for creeps and crooks who he depends on for his job.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

"Transcripts alone are not sufficient evidence of the state of the president's memory," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan said as debate opened.

Actually they were pretty conclusive is proving that Robert Hur mischaracterised the President as having a bad memory.

But Gym Jordan has said the quiet part out loud. They don't want the tapes for any legitimate enquiry, but to fish for sound-bites for political purposes.

Yes, that was an actual serious investigation into criminal matters - rather than a political fishing trip that isn't investigating anything.

Anyway, Garland is being squeezed like a lemon, not a lot of options at this point. Bannon and Navaro were convicted for defying a subpoena and Garland is doing the same.

Nope, completely different. They still need to get federal prosecutors to investigate and file criminal charges against the attorney general, and without that, nothing happens.

Make public the audio recordings of the special counsel interview.

Obviously trying to conceal something.

What are they investigating?

Either way, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla.,  "inherent contempt" resolution so it’s going to be hard on Garland to hold on to these tapes; unless he wants to get arrested should the resolution pass.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

As if anyone pays attention to Chip Roy.

His only role is “chaos and the inability to get stuff done”.

Guess who said that. Chip Roy did.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

it’s going to be hard on Garland to hold on to these tapes; unless he wants to get arrested should the resolution pass.

Sure it is, lol. The DOJ headed by Garland is going to arrest Garland.

Maybe they should impeach him too. Because that went so well with DHS…

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Congress is investigating Joe's illegal mishandling of classified documents and the reason why he was given a pass and whether the transcript has been edited.

DOJ and executive branch are effectively hiding information from Congress. The public has a right to know.

They do.

On this one they are veeeery united. Look, if the Dems go after the Republicans for ignoring a subpoena, the same standard should apply to the Dems period, if not then the left have absolutely nothing to say, zero. If Navarro and Bannon have to honor a subpoena, Garland does as well.

Congress is investigating Joe's illegal mishandling of classified documents

"allegedly"

and the reason why he was given a pass and whether the transcript has been edited.

Not required.

For a start, Robert Hur has decided not to prosecute due to lack of evidence.

Secondly, they have a transcript of the interviews.

Thirdly, they have no reason to suspect that it isn't accurate.

Fourthly, Gym Jorden accidentally slips that this isn't about the investigation at all.

DOJ and executive branch are effectively hiding information from Congress.

No they aren't. And Congress has no need for the tapes - it doesn't help in any investigation.

The public has a right to know.

No it doesn't. It's irrelevant.

Sorry to disappoint, but it's not going to happen. This is such a nothing-burger Twitter stunt that is going nowhere.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

He won't get arrested if the resolution passes,

He doesn’t need to, that’s not what the resolution is for. This is the reason why Luna wants to vote for “inherent contempt” This would push him to release the tapes or face being arrested.

1. Historical Basis and Authority: **Inherent contempt is grounded in the Constitution, which grants each house of Congress the authority to “determine the Rules of its Proceedings” and to punish for contempt. Historically, this power has been affirmed by the Supreme Court**, notably in cases such as Anderson v. Dunn (1821) and Jurney v. MacCracken (1935). 2. Procedural Mechanism: Under inherent contempt, Congress can hold a trial-like proceeding in the chamber, with witnesses, evidence, and legal representation. If someone is found in contempt, **Congress can order their arrest and detention until compliance or the end of the session.** 3. Enforcement: **Congress has its own sergeant-at-arms to carry out the arrest and detention of individuals held in contempt. **However, the practical application of this enforcement is complicated and politically sensitive, making it a measure of last resort. 4. Historical Usage: The use of inherent contempt has been rare, with the last major instance occurring in the early 20th century. Modern Congresses have preferred civil or criminal contempt proceedings, which involve the judicial system and the Department of Justice.

Sure, there are always hurdles, but that doesn’t mean you give in to political defiance. Now, having said that, if that, the people can see on their TVs that Biden is worsening by the day. His mental and physical frailty is not getting better, it’s getting worse, but the tapes must be really, really bad if this man is ready to go to jail to hold on to them. Again, these are public records, every American has the right to listen to them.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

The audio tapes are covered by executive privilege.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Or there’s no reason to get the audio except to play portions of it on right wing propaganda networks in service to making Biden look weak.

There is no investigative or legislative purpose to have the recordings.

Just look at the nutjob Republicans on this committee: Paul Gosar, Andy Biggs, Anna Paulina Luna, Lauren Boebert, MTG, etc.

Well, there you go. I think a vote could happen by next week and see how it goes, either way, Biden’s numbers are really in the toilet. Geez, so much so, now the chatter is, who could replace him possibly if something catastrophic were to happen to Joe.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

They did something! They did something! The House has had trouble with passing bills (did they do one yet?) but here is proof that they can do something. Something stupid, but solid proof that they can actually do something. Now all we have to do is wait for them to do something good. How long? Use your calendars, your watch batteries don't have enough life.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

that’s why we need to the tapes,

they aren’t going to tell us what they edited. Obviously something they don’t want the American people knowing or there would have been no reason to edit it.

Not true. He explicitly said he didn't prosecute because there wasn't enough to prosecute. Jury sympathy didn't factor into the decision.

Not materially, which is all that matters.

why is it “unlikely” he be convicted? He was found in contempt of Congress just like Navarro and Bannon were, wasn’t he?

Oh just because he can abuse his power and order his own DOJ to not prosecute him for the same crime they did others?

To be clear Garland submitted the transcript and came in to testify before Congress, so that any questions could be cleared up then. Now asking for the audio is frivolous and a fishing expedition for political purposes.

Navarro and Bannon submitted no documents and refused to testify before Congress in the serious matter of the Jan 6th investigation.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Ok, putting all the lame and stupid excuses aside, let the public hear and then can make the determination, the Dems did so with the Trump tapes when he spoke to Zelenskyy’s and the Dems declared transparency is important, so then keep your words and stop looking hypocritical. Either way, it’s not helping Biden, so nothing to lose

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

This clear useless, partisan "fishing expedition" tells you every thing you need to know about the current Repub Party...

They try everything they can to frame Biden who cooperated with the FBI, returned all the records, and never told anyone to lie, but ignore their own guy who;

1) Violated a court-ordered subpoena to return the documents, even AFTER his lawyer told him that was ILLEGAL...

2) Directed another attorney to LIE IN WRITING to the FBI stating no classified documents remained at MAL, when he was keeping another 184...

3) Was caught on tape bragging about a CLASSIFED war-plan he previously said he declassified...and waving it around a group of uncleared people...

4) Told his aide to re-hide the classified he both lied about and refused under court order to return, and then destroy the evidence of that crime by wiping the security tapes...

They're just a bunch of losers trying to deflect and dodge from the crimes of their chosen Loser...and failing...

From the Democrat side working for a Democrat President trying to take out his political opponent. Kind of ironic that the sentencing is just a few days before the primaries kick off, it’s also interesting the timing that Bannon has to report for prison around the same time 30 days before? As they say, timing is everything, and it seems that the timing with the trials and sentencing of these people is just so, so coincidental. Hmmm…

The actual voice recordings are subject to executive privilege which even a moron like Jordan knows.

And this moronic administration knows that those are public records, if they are so overly confident about Biden’s mental status, release it, shut the Republicans up and make them look stupid instead of themselves.
