seijichuudo9sha at 03:49 AM JST - 5th September Obama -appointed Green Czar Van Jones will have something to say about this.

The old saying goes,"If you have nothing then make it up and then you have something"LOL......Nice try.

Sure Rameo, that movie about Reagan being shot did wonders for the wingnut crowd.

The gun nutters will not be happy until Obama is shot. That is the simple truth. They are all below disgusting and craven. They are basically anti-american and should leave the country to live in totalitarian state like Russia or Iran.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Instead of making a joke perhaps a movie should have been made. That would pacify the left.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I guess people like this hater in Idaho is why the Obama administration all but had to set up the snitch line (flag@whitehouse.com).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Blue Tiger,

There was outrage. It was just limited to the free speech zones, so you probably didn't hear it unless you were near to the cordoned off areas in which one could practice free speech without being arrested for what was on your t-shirt.

Hope that helps.

Taka

Blue_Tiger at 02:56 AM JST - 31st August Where was all this "outrage" when horrible things were being said about President Bush? Hypocrites on the left showing us who they really are once again....

Isn't grand to bring up a all but gone ex? The question is not about Bush it is about our present President.

I know you would have an issue if anyone would have said "boo" about Bush. But what do you think of the comment about President Obama?

Any comment about this topic.

As for myself, I find this the same bs by the right. Using a popular Democratic President as a stepping stone.

This guy is a long shot and he knows it, so why not try anything. I am surprised that he has not started to call the President names. You know like, traitor, Communist, Pinko, Socialist ect ect ect.

Nothing new from a party that is slowly disappearing into the ranks of the whig, Federalist and so on......Just another nail in that coffin....LOL

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I think America has a huge problem with freedom of speech. Does Obama have anything to do with that? Hunting that down would be good. Ok, Ill hunt Obama down and give him a piece of my mind, I tell ya; He really has it coming for him.Im gonna hunt him down and rip the words out of his soul.

Well let hear those republicans talking about this joke. So much for media left and hypocrites? http://www.idahostatesman.com/102/story/880934.html?storylink=omni_popular

Oh give us a a break. There are more then enough verbal gaffes from members of the current government, only they are ignored by the press. But once the press can hang something on a Rep, we never hear the end of it. Hypocrits.

i hope C.L. “Butch” Otter's mother gets raped too ... he he he. i'll sell tags for that!

USARonin at 03:20 AM JST - 29th August It's more funny that lefties are enraged by this inane remark.

hworta269 at 03:24 PM JST - 30th August

No one threatened the presidents life at all. Whats more telling is these same pundits voiced no concern whatsoever when previous presidents had the same kinds of remarks made toward them. This is nothing more then manufactured outrage.

i'll be selling rape tickets to anyone who wants to get at your mother. try to contain your rage then. maybe you won't care because, you've already incestuously raped her numerous times ... he he he

But those low life redneck may take it serious.

As if it's possible to take the joke any more seriousLY than the dems/left/libs have already...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jokes? i suppose so long as "jus'kidding/jus'joking" is added to the end of any statement, it can become a harmless joke? for example, "i wanna kidnap and rape every woman who votes republican ... he he he .... jus'joking!" you're right! it works! he he he ... i'm the funniest comedian in the world ... he he he.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes, maybe it was a joke. But those low life redneck may take it serious.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

These words, this joke, whatever, don't constitute an actual threat made on the President's life. If they did there would be people in custody. There are not. The Secret Service evidently already has so get over it people.

SuperLib: " You're too much of a political hack to allow yourself to look at things rationally anymore."

If I'm really that than you are far worse, or at least you have been since not long after the last election. My point, which you seemed to have taken major offense to on another thread, was that you often come onto threads these days and talk about how they are 'non-issues' or unimportant; eager to take part in something 'irrelevant'. It's like a person who replies to someone: "I won't dignify your comment with a reply".

Moderator: We ruled yesterday that posts that do not refer to Rex Rammel's comments will be removed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

USAFdude: "Thank you, sincerely, for this statement. You and I often disagree, but on this point, we're in total agreement."

No kidding. Molenir just made the best post I've ever seen him make. My hats off to him.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One of these people who think about assinating Obama will attempt it. I think we'll see at least one attempt to hunt Obama down and kill him.

This isn't a joke. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Molenir:

Jokes about murdering a President are not funny, regardless of his policies. They weren't funny when cracks were made about Bush, and they aren't ok now when they're made about Obama.

Thank you, sincerely, for this statement. You and I often disagree, but on this point, we're in total agreement.

It's more funny that lefties are enraged by this inane remark.

SuperLib: "But most rational people agree that this man's comments were not a actual threat on a person's life."

Clearly even this man has his doubts. It still needs to be examined carefully, and possibly the man be charged.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smithinjapan: that it's not a joke to threaten a person's life.

No one disagrees with that. But most rational people agree that this man's comments were not a actual threat on a person's life.

USARonin: "Taka, you didn't object when posters came up with the most horrific ideas of causin' harm to Bush, Cheney, Rove... whoever. Don't be so righteous now. You don't wear it well."

You're breakin', Ronin.... you've gone from failing to address the topic and attacking posters to going completely off topic and making judgements (without sources) to cover up your back-peddling.

Or can you show us examples of where people like Taka said they would 'buy tags to hunt (and kill) the president'? You'll forgive me for not holding my breath.

"I can help fix ignorant but I can't fix stupid."

Start by using a little glass cleaner on the mirror and go from there. Once you repair those faults (after the seminars, perhaps), you'll find that you might see things a little more clearly and be able to post a little more objectively.

How about that Nixon, by the way?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People can claim that it's a 'joke' (haha!) all they want, the bottom line is that 'jokes' that double as threats, veiled or not, on the president's life, are not 'funny', and should be investigated to the full and punished. Hell, the man himself says, "I'm probably safe", meaning he doesn't know it for a fact.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

USARonin,

I'm very aware of the difference between literal and figurative. I do think that mr. rommell was joking but, much like pedophilia and sex slavery, I don't find the subject of shooting the president, regardless of who he is (have to put that disclaimer in these days), to be appropriate humor. And I sure as hell wouldn't vote for someone who isn't smart enough to realize that.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

...that it's not a joke to threaten a person's life.

Smith, so where does it say that anyone's life was threatened ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As I've said already, idiots like Rex and the 'great white hope' woman, as well as the radicals who wear guns on their hips to presidential events or believe in death panels, are clinching it for the other party.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Taka, so you believe it wasn't a joke?

Please check out my advice for Smith regardin' the use of 'literal' and 'figurative'. You're both not alone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So many people want to say that there is nothing offensive here and that it was "just a joke."

Here's another example of those republican jokesters:

U.S. Rep. lynn jenkins offered encouragement to conservatives at a town hall forum that the Republican Party would embrace a "great white hope" capable of thwarting the political agenda endorsed by Democrats who control Congress and President Barack Obama.

Hmmm....those republicans and their edgy racial humor. I can't believe the Half-hour News Hour only lasted for a couple of episodes because apparently EVERYONE in the republican party is a jokester. You'd think they could have found something the rest of the country found funny.

Or not.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think that 'jokes' that can double as threats are not quite the same thing as lampooning. If it's simply jokes and lampooning, then I agree with you. Saying you would buy a tag (to hunt and kill a president) is not the same as saying a politician is a dolt or making wise-cracks about gaffs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good_Jorb: "Sad thing being people will continue to vote Democrat or Republican because very few people are willing to vote for a third party."

So long as the voting is close that will continue to be the case, since I think in many cases people will vote the 'lesser of two evils' as they think the worser might win if they don't use their vote against him (I'd say 'her' but Americans aren't ready yet). Perhaps in 2012 when it's going to be another major victory for the Dems all those who abandon the Repubs thanks to people like palin-the-dolt and this guy Rex might feel a bit easier about voting for a third party (some who voted Dems. too, of course). Once a third party can build up a bit of a following it'll build steam from there, and I think that would be a great thing as it would make the others need to be more accountable all-told.

USARonin: "Replace 'Obama' with 'Bush' and you'd see all the lefties findin' this funny as hell and wonderin' why the Right is so thin-skinned."

Proof? Nah... just more of the assumptions that are getting you clobbered on this and other threads.

"Take a light-hearted poke at President Maobama and you've just desecrated a Leftist icon. Infidels. Funnneeee."

Well, okay... the assumptions/judgements or just your subsequent and extremely immature name calling. Haven't you learned all this in previous handles? Come on, bud. Grow up. You should be outright embarrassed to be defending a man who said he wouldn't mind hunting down the president. Goes for anyone -- be it your hero bush or otherwise (again, proving your assumptions to be nothing but foolish).

TheQuestion: "They were riding on Obama's coattails back then and everybody was caught up in the drama. Now, many states see their representatives and sentators not preforming or going against the wishes of their constituants."

Either way you're simply admitting my comment was correct while MidnightPromise's was completely backwards. I doubt they'll win AS MANY seats as they did last time around, but since I was pointing out that this man is one of the alternatives, as is the fool who was recorded saying, "We need a great white hope" and is now trying to say she didn't know the etymology or that there was any negative connotation, then it will still be a whole lot of easy winning.

GoodJorb: "What did you expect? Bush also spent more than all the previous presidents before him combined. If the party of supposive "fiscal conseratives" have absoultely no clue how to be fiscally conservative, why would you ever think Obama would be fiscally conservative?"

Not only that, but the former president wasted all that money after a SURPLUS! Obama simply has to spend to repair the damage done by the shrub. The Righties just blow a gasket when they hear that so the common knowledge never quite sinks in.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madverts at 09:33 PM JST - 28th August Does seem a lot of shrieking about a stupid comment.

he he he ... stupid, huh? when tags for your parents go on sale, i'll be buyin'as many as i can to distribute to every drunken, gun-totin'hillbilly i can find. then we'll see how stupid a comment it is. as well, how loud your parents shriek/holler when they're gettin' pumped with lead ... ha ha ha. darwin!

" Jokes about murdering a President are not funny, regardless of his policies."

We can at least agree on that.

"They weren't funny when cracks were made about Bush, and they aren't ok now when they're made about Obama."

Agreed again. I would extend that to anyone, actually, in that wishing another human being dead is just wrong.

Molenir- Everybody is entitled to an opinion as you are definantly entitled to yours. Our opinions just happen to be different. But thank you for expressing yours in an inteligent manner.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Another pea brain moron. Just ignore it and keep doing what you are doing Mr President.

Well, I agree with the first notion, and disagree with the second. I'd rather have him change what hes doing and become a competent president with actual economic policies that will help the country rather then hurt it. And a real foreign policy as opposed to the Joke the country is becoming under Obama. Though like I said, I do agree about the first thought. Jokes about murdering a President are not funny, regardless of his policies. They weren't funny when cracks were made about Bush, and they aren't ok now when they're made about Obama.

Dude, you're the one who posted: "Thats the funniest, most out of touch statement I have seen since last November" in regards to me saying I look forward to the Dems sweeping again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Obama win by quite a margin? So now... who is it living in backwards land?

Thanks for proving my point, bub.

"Mr Smith, shall we talk about hypocrites? You sure you want to go there?"

Under which handle do you want to talk about it? :)

Threats made by ANYONE against ANY parties President are just plain dumb and can not be tolerated much less condoned, I just wonder why threats against the messiah get so much more coverage than those made against the last great president, GWBush?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

JenniferKim: "We should be focusing on Obama's weak foreign policy..."

Excuse me? in relation to whom? your past president (the man considered the single worst president in US history in regards to foreign policy??)?

"We should be focusing on Obama's weak foreign policy, and his disastrous economic and social policies."

Despite your inability to see the situation for what it is instead of what you wish it (he inherited a disaster and is dealing with it, not the other way around), we should be dealing with the article, NOT 'focusing on Obama'. The man in question is a redneck moron who is playing with fire by talking about buying tags to kill the president. Doesn't matter if it's a joke or not.

And it's weird seeing people defend this guy's joke about hunting down the president and assassinating him when they were calling for blood over Letterman's stupid joke about Palin's daughter. Talk about hypocrites! If they can't see one joke simply as a joke, they've no right to claim the other is anything more -- save that one was by a comedian and the other a politician about assassinating the president (ie. much more sinister).

MidnightPromise: "Thats the funniest, most out of touch statement I have seen since last November."

You mean when the Dems swept the election. You back in 'backwards world' again? ;)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I kind of like the way the guy is handling it, just playing it off as a joke, which is obviously was. I get tired of people having to get in front of a million cameras and microphones and issue a tearful apologly for the most trivial things these days.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong:"Rex should have known his state's population is about 99%Skin Heads he should immediately called the cops."

Bang on,amigo! Well, I don7t know about other people here but I have never met a person from Idaho who WASN'T a skinhead. It really is just too funny that the whole state resembles the dwindling group of the few remaining bush supporters we have here.

Well, anyways, Obama continues to amaze me every day and the economy IS coming back, and green shoots of recovery are coming up everywhere.

Tis sad to see haters rearing their ugly heads and letting their envy of Obama and his fabulous speeches and rheteric get the best of them, but hey, logic never was their strong suite.I wouldn't be surprised if palin the quitter flies down on the public dime in her aerial wolf-killing helicopter and joins in.Absolutely disgusting!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

JenniferKim at 01:55 PM JST - 28th August The person in the audience who asked about Obama tags is an idiot. We should be focusing on Obama's weak foreign policy, and his disastrous economic and social policies.

so ... what is your idea of effective foreign policy? unilaterslism? war? invasions? more troop deployments? oh learned one, shower us with your wisdom so we may bathe in it. we genuflect & bow before you! she with two first names, like rickybobby. a (true) big, hairy american winning machine!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Jennifer, you're right. Outside of leftist circles and the JT Olympics, is this even an American national story of concern?

-A total silly distraction.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The person in the audience who asked about Obama tags is an idiot.

We should be focusing on Obama's weak foreign policy, and his disastrous economic and social policies.

Idiotic comments like this "tags" thing only give him an out and let him use it as a distraction.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe Rex Rammell hasn't thought about assination of Obama, but the person who shouted it out has." That my friend I can agree with you on. Rex should have known his state's population is about 99%Skin Heads he should immediately called the cops. He should have known better.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe Rex Rammell hasn't thought about assination of Obama, but the person who shouted it out has. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, to be somewhat fair, while the joke was in extremely poor taste it was as much about politics as anything else. I seem to remember when Mondale was running against Bush Sr. in '88 his pick for VP was down South somewhere and when asked how he felt about guns he said something like, "Of course I like guns I'm a hunter. I'm a Quail hunter." Referring to Dan Quayle of course. I don't remember if there was an uproar or not, but it may have been drowned out because of Mondale's affair on his yacht Monkey Business. Still scary to hear these kinds of comments though. Whether Obama ends up be a dud or not (and I don't believe he will) I'd hate to see another president assassinated.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Another republican redneck. Sure it's not hard to find in this country and on JT. That wouldn't suprise me.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MP, because for the left that was just good sport.

For folks sufferin' from BDS, it was also warranted.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Looking forward to the Dems sweeping the next election as well.

Thats the funniest, most out of touch statement I have seen since last November.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Props to the editor for naming the party affiliation of the guilty party. In roughly half the stories you read about criminal politicians you really have to do some research to find out if s/he was a Democrat or a republican.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LOL, a story featuring Democrats and Republicans getting political and off-topic? Whatever next? While I dislike Republican policies, this should be a non story. Everyone says stupid things without thinking. Do we really want emotionless, humourless robots as our leaders? Because that is what this meaningless partisan bickering is leading to.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So a Republican long shot cracks a few jokes? See it for what it is! This clown would have probably passed well below the radar if it were not for his mouth. He is just saying something to get himself noticed.

On the other hand, if his comments have a more insidious undertone, then he should be frog-marched out of the race and into the arms of the Secret Service.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

GJDailleult

...another cracker moron...

I don't think that's appropriate.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not sure why an article about another cracker moron turns into "Obama is spending money!!!!!" posts, but this it is all very simple. Your Wal-Mart economy has collapsed, tax revenues have plunged, the Fed is spending trillions to try and keep the balls in the air and save the banks and avoid a complete depression, and the evil one is too much of a wuss to cut any of the Bush era programs and policies that helped get you into this mess. In other words, you are in the same position you would have been in if McCain had won. Get used to it.

Moderator: All readers back on topic please. Posts that do not refer to Rex Rammel's remarks will be removed.

Jokes like that are a sure way to get investigated by the Secret Service.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123629969453946717.html

And that bidness about Bush...? 'Rapin' the American people?' Give it a rest.

No, friendo, this one's on President Obama. It's his programs that have given the US more debt than all the combined presidents that came before him. Bush had nothin' to do with that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Noliving: "Smith you overestimate the democrats popularity in the US. The republicans really do have a chance at gaining ground in the 2010 elections."

No, if the Republicans, as they are now, really DO gain ground (of course they 'have a chance') in 2010 it's not overestimating the Dems popularity, it's overestimating the intelligence of Americans.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i guess the fact that he's spending money to get the US out of the massive problems Junior and his criminal cronies caused, escapes the less intelligent on this board

This is facinating, can I have a link to the source of this info please.

9 Trillion is the current estimate. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090825/pl_nm/us_obama_budget

But I am sure he will manage to spend more before he is finished. China owns almost 25% of US debt, but they are souring on buying more. If public health cover is adopted add that to the above figure........

I escaped from growing up in Utah, a pretty backwards neighbor of Idaho. All I can say is that this kind of comment coming from that state isn't terribly surprising. But it should send a message to the rest of the nation about the kind of mentality that far too many people in such places retain. Afterall it is the Idaho and Eastern Washington state border region that is the home of the nation's most organized extreme right wing groups.

I can only hope that in another 20 years such places and such people will join the modern world and stop reinforcing the redneck stereotypes that they too often make into reality.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So you've got this moron 'joking' that he'd buy Obama tags to hunt him, you've got another Republican saying she hopes for a 'great white hope' to beat Obama, and you've got a bunch of right-wing tools toting guns to rallies, carrying on about death panels, etc.

Looking forward to the Dems sweeping the next election as well.

Oh, and the guy should be fired, if not jailed for threatening the president -- 'joke' or not. People in office ought to know better.
