But the proposal announced last week faces major hurdles in Congress amid criticism from Republicans and business lobbies who oppose the higher corporate taxes that would pay the bill.

This one is for everyone who ever claims that the GOP is on the working man's side. They're not and never were. They only work and only care for corporate interests.

Roy Blunt, the chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, implored Democrats to focus on the traditional pillars of infrastructure -- "roads, bridges, ports and airports" -- and not the more expansive spending Biden envisions to create jobs, fight climate change and stand up to a rising China.

To sum up, republicans hate jobs, hate the planet and love China.

I thought the Republicans wanted to stand up to China and create jobs. Was it the part where the corporate tax gravy train runs dry for them that got the knees knocking?

I'd agree to a slimmed down package in the spirit of compromise, but make no mistake about it. If 100% of the $1.9 trillion package just went to bridges and roads, we're still short of the investment needed, so compromise would be the equivalent of kicking part of the can down the road.

showing that its blueprint is popular among ordinary Americans of all political stripes, if not Republican lawmakers.

The above reinforces the reality that the Republican Party is a minority party out of touch with the majority of Americans.

No wonder the Republicans are so anti-democracy. No wonder they want to restrict voting rights.

No wonder Republicans continue their culture wars in their ongoing attempts to return the country to a mythical yesterday while blocking - their sole policy - attempts to move the country forward.

For Republicans "progress" is a dirty word. All the R's have left are big lieS which reasonable people, i.e. the majority of Americans, continue to dismiss.

“Yes, it’s true 6 percent of Biden’s proposal is for bridges and roads.”

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

But don’t criticize it. It’s just info in a “fact sheet” Biden sent out. Not like that is expected to be an accurate reflection of what Biden wants to do or anything.

Everyone is getting their numbers from the fact sheet the White House published on Biden’s ‘American Jobs Plan.’ It’s important to keep in mind that this is a proposal — meaning it’s not even a bill introduced to Congress yet and could be changed between now and potentially becoming law.

The four missing years of Republican "Infrastructure" was a scam in plain sight, a Trumpromise never kept, just another word added to the vocabulary of the "stable genius", signifying nothing. The Dems should now press on with their agenda and just ignore the howls of the faithless hypocrites on the right. The times they are a-changin'.

"When people think about infrastructure, they're thinking about roads, bridges, ports and airports,"

“Yes, it’s true 6 percent of Biden’s proposal is for bridges and roads.”

‘Infrastructure’ doesn’t mean just roads and bridges. When people think they are often wrong. As Mr Blunt and Mr Bush have proven. Waste, power, telecommunications, water, these are all infrastructure.

Florida is about to suffer a disastrous flood that has nothing to do with roads or bridges and everything to do with infrastructure being procrastinated on for too long. Texas could have benefitted from a little more focus on infrastructure recently.

do what you want, Dems have all branches of government. But stop misleading the people and claiming you don’t know why there is any criticism. Not infrastructure:

The proposal sets aside 26% for workforce-related improvements and research, particularly in manufacturing and small businesses.

The final 17% would go to affordable care for people who are elderly or have disabilities.

What’s wrong with that?

Also what’s wrong with using higher corporate taxes to pay for it?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I have LOTS to criticize about the bill, starting with calling something an infrastructure bill and only spending 6% on roads and bridges.

This too:

Gun control advocates applaud Biden funding plan but say more must be done

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/546267-gun-control-advocates-applaud-biden-funding-plan-but-say-more-must-be-done

You know what funding plan they are talking about? Yep, the "infrastructure bill".

Democrats and outside groups are praising the $5 billion for community violence prevention programs tucked into the president’s massive infrastructure package,

the infrastructure plan may be the most likely route for any violence prevention measure to become law through the budget reconciliation process, which needs only Democratic votes to pass.

"a historic investment in proactive community based solutions to prevent violence before it happens through evidence based strategies."

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

as should you with what infrastructure DOESNT mean. is community violence prevention- "infrastructure"? elderly care? workforce training programs?

Im glad to see its just "semantics" to outright lie and call something an infrastructure bill just so you can then claim "infrastructure is popular with the people". (which actual infrastructure IS, yes. not this scam of a bill)

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

It’s happening. Deal with it.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

This is exactly what tax dollars should be spent on. Not a ridiculous wall and golf trips. And it won’t need a government shutdown to do it either.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Also, are you suggesting that he entire bill is a sham because 5/2250 billion dollars of the proposal is earmarked for gun control? Really, is THAT your claim?

The proposal sets aside 26% for workforce-related improvements and research, particularly in manufacturing and small businesses.

The final 17% would go to affordable care for people who are elderly or have disabilities.

So not just 5/2250 but a full 40%+ not even close to infrastructure. thats at first glance. and your 5 is....5 BILLION dollars, not a big deal to you? it is to me. and it was to you when we tried to spend 2 billion on a wall.

Oh the criticisms you would have.... if this same exact plan were the "Trump" infrastructure plan. But its not, so everything is just peachy. Hide all the liberal initiatives in it that you know wont pass by themself, then say "republicans are against infrastructure" as a lie to draw emotional responses.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

is community violence prevention- "infrastructure"?

Yes.

elderly care?

Yes.

workforce training programs?

And yes.

"Infrastructure" doesn't just mean "roads". Social infrastructure is equally as important.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

what infrastructure DOESNT mean.

Words connote and denote. It's not surprising the far right once again are trying to claim their connotation of a word like 'infrastructure' is the only possible way it can be understood. The far right have been effective at developing a lexicon used by their media and politicians to try influence their base.

On the other hand, it's easy for reasonable people, especially those able to understand levels of complexity the far right tries to dismiss, to understand a word like 'infrastructure' covers a range of meanings.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

While avoiding that no matter how you spin it, gun control initiatives, violence prevention, elderly care and workforce training are NOT infrastructure. under no level of complexity of any self serving liberal meanings of that word.

nice job getting "far right" 3 times into 4 total sentences though, impressive.

Isn't it interesting....

That in 2017, Repubs were all for a $1.9 trillion unfunded tax cut for the Top 1% - permanent tax cuts versus temporary ones that expire in 2025 for the middle class....

Yet in 2021, they wanted a pared down $600 for lower and middle class folks in the Stimulus Bill, and now want to pare down the Infrastructure Bill that will create lower and middle class jobs...

Pretty clear who they're in the tank for....

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This one is for everyone who ever claims that the GOP is on the working man's side. They're not and never were.

If that were the case then blue collar and middle class wouldn’t be voting Republican overwhelmingly.

From the Crazy left NBC

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/blue-collar-workers-including-black-and-hispanic-voters-take-major-turn-toward-gop-under-trump-poll/ar-BB1dUw2Z

They only work and only care for corporate interests.

Hardly....

https://www.dailywire.com/news/party-rich-democrats-are-7-10-wealthiest-members-paul-bois

94% of the wealthiest donors in the country gave to the Democrat party, most of big tech, Hollywood and the arts gave to Democrats, they have cemented their party as party for the affluent and the party of excessive entitlements especially when it comes to illegal migrants..

To sum up, republicans hate jobs, hate the planet and love China.

If that were true, China wouldn’t pushed so hard to help get Trump out.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

So not just 5/2250 but a full 40%+ not even close to infrastructure. thats at first glance. and your 5 is....5 BILLION dollars, not a big deal to you? it is to me. and it was to you when we tried to spend 2 billion on a wall.

Gun control is good, useful, practical, and saves lives. The wall is bad, stupid, doesn't work, and would have been an ecological horror. Good thing construction barely got started.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Yep, cause Biden has that border totally under control with his new policies.

People came, saw and got the "Biden Let Us In!" T-shirt.

Anwyay, I dont see anywhere that this is Joe Biden's SOCIAL infrastructure plan.

Joe Biden's $2 trillion infrastructure plan,

And if social infrastructure and infrastructure were the same thing, they wouldnt need to create a new term to distinguish between the 2 entirely different concepts. Trucks cant use a "violence prevention system" to deliver goods to consumers.

Anyway, good luck with this. When even Mitt Romney is criticizing Joe Biden....you have problems. I would have loved to have seen the flip flop in your responses to this same exact plan if Trump had proposed it. You would have hated it and it would have been "racist" somehow.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

I would have loved to have seen the flip flop in your responses to this same exact plan if Trump had proposed it. You would have hated it and it would have been "racist" somehow.

You'd be wrong. But, if Trump had proposed it, you would have said it was wonderful and great and the best plan ever. Even on this very website, Trump's followers in the Q Cucks Klan supported $2000 checks for all as wonderful and obvious and great when Trump wanted them, then said $2000 was too much when Democratic politicians wanted them.

Walls will never work if you don’t finish or secure them. Why do these detention facilities have walls? Apparently, they work keeping these kids cages in, in deplorable conditions, the WH erected a fence, blocks and stops anyone trying to get to the Capitol and you need an ID to get near these people. All of these politicians have walls and and security around their homes, not to mention their dwellings are built like a tank. So walls do work if you fortify, police and patrol it.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

If that were the case then blue collar and middle class wouldn’t be voting Republican overwhelmingly.

This just proves that republicans are extremely good at lying to people, not that they care about them. I mean, again, it's there, in black and white : "Republicans and business lobbies who oppose the higher corporate taxes". Why would the blue collar's worker party oppose higher corporate tax? Only people in the pocket of corporation oppose higher corporate taxes.

https://www.dailywire.com

This is not a valid source of news, it's just right-wing propaganda.

If that were true, China wouldn’t pushed so hard to help get Trump out.

That statement is false, and also crazy.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Blacklabel: “Yes, it’s true 6 percent of Biden’s proposal is for bridges and roads.”

Yeah seems similar to the stunt you guys pulled with the COVID spending.

More information:

"Biden proposes $135 billion of that is saved for repairs and improvements to roads, bridges and highways and road safety projects. And that’s just under 6 percent of the bill’s total.

That doesn't sound like a lot but that's because the plan also spends on other infrastructure projects such as utilities, manufacturing, public needs and other modes of transportation.

The plan sets aside $621 billion, about 27% of the total, for transportation infrastructure that includes the road spending alongside investments in public transit, rail, airports, shipping and electric vehicles.

Another 30% of the bill’s total spending is on utility infrastructure like electricity, water piping and high-speed broadband internet expansion. "

(end)

The only question is if Black was duped into spreading information he didn't know was misleading, or if he if is intentionally spread misleading information.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

And if social infrastructure and infrastructure were the same thing, they wouldnt need to create a new term to distinguish between the 2 entirely different concepts.

You seem to have a hard time understanding the fact that "infrastructure" in general is composed of several different aspects which form a whole. But ultimately, are you against the use of general vocabulary, or are you against helping elderly people? Which one is it?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The only question is if Black was duped into spreading information he didn't know was misleading, or if he if is intentionally spread misleading information.

Careful. I have been informed that, while lying is acceptable, accusing others of lying is not.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

When did linking to partisan opinion pieces, left or right, become a serious way to discuss matters?

I blame the teachers.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

So....

Repubs oppose the Infrastructure Bill because it increases the tax rate on big corporations to 28% (still lower than in 2016)....

But they want everyone to boycott these same big corporations and put them out of business because they oppose the Georgia voting restriction law....

They love them, but they hate them...

There's a word for that - schizophrenia...
