Predict was pushed by Congress in 2009 in response to the SARS, MERS and H1N5 pandemics that swept the world between 2003 and 2009. Congress wanted to fund research hoping to identify possible future pandemic threats so the medical and scientific communities could be prepared.

Btw, it was Congress that pressed for the creation of the Emerging Pandemic Threats Program and the program called Predict that sent researchers from 33 nations around the world looking for sources of possible infectious diseases. They crawled around jungles and bat caves capturing animals and taking samples for later analysis in special labs. Congress first funded the program in 209 and each year thereafter through 2019. We are. Dr. Fauci did the best he could as a man of science to handle an unprecedented pandemic, with all the information he has at every point in time. His heart and mind always were in the right place and solely dedicated to the safety of not only the american people, but the whold world. Congress funded the Project Prevent through US AID every year from 2009 through 2019. Congress tried to re-establish the program in 2020 after it was defunded for that fiscal year but that measure failed. Dr. Fauci had nothing to do with this. It was the US Congress reaction to three global pandemics in six years, SARS, MERS and H1N5. Protect was a project of 33 nations looking for possible candidate pathogens that could cause the next pandemic. 33 nations participated and funded the effort. China was among these. It was never Dr. Fauci's program and indeed was run through USAID, not NIH.

Fauci did lie about the use of face masks early in the pandemic. He basically told people they didn’t need a mask in order to preserve a limited supply for medical personnel. 

That's not a lie.

Fauci was working with the best science available at the time. That's what real scientists do. And with a completely new virus, there was a lot in the early days that scientists didn't know. One of unknowns was the effectiveness of ordinary drugstore masks to slow the spread. It was believed early last year that only medical respirators such as the N95 mask were effective. Those things are expensive and in limited supply. That's why Fauci made that recommendation at that time.

Again, that is not a lie. Fauci is a public servant and works for the public good. He is not some windbag reality TV celebrity who wants everyone to tell him how wonderful he is.
