Too late. Trump's Republican enablers knew he was a snake. The Republican Party is forever stained by Trump supporting insurrectionists like Hawley and Cruz.

If he doesn't resign, he's going to be isolated, given the Steve King treatment, and summarily dismissed from his job come 2024 (his next time up for election). The Republican party will not support him, and if he insists on trying to run, it'll be a walkover for any Democrat he runs against if he gets through the primary.

Hawley is a ‘rebel’-rouser, among the Republican Party’s most cynical politicians. He joined the populist plutocrat faction of Republicans, the ‘elites’ using right wing populism to further enrich themselves and their fellow elite. While those in their populist base continue to get stiffed by the ‘elite’ they mistakenly thought they were fighting againstRepublican establishment as a rising star.
