The USA had a $5 million bounty on the head of this criminal,Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, also known as “Tony Tormenta” or “Tony the Storm,”some poor Mexican Marines gave their lives to kill off this mafia leader, I think Mr.Obama should do the right thing and give the money to the family of the dead Mexican Marines, who are the real unsung heroes in this terrible war against the drug gangs, who at the end of the day are being funded by USA drug consumption.

Poor Mexicans probably need to brace themselves for bloody retaliation from these scums. But alas! one dead kingpin is something of a coup for Mexico's anti-drug efforts....

President Barack Obama telephoned his Mexican counterpart, Felipe Calderon, Saturday morning to reaffirm Washington’s support for Mexico’s efforts to fight the cartels and express his condolences for the Mexican troops and the reporter killed in the shootouts, according to a White House statement.

The US Prez should also insist bolstering Mexico's anti-corruption agenda. It should complement the whole thing quite well, and track the money laundering operations of these drug cartels in both the US and Mexico.

I hope so, elbudamexicano.

Sadly, there will be another kingpin appointed... well... as soon as this happened.

Glad he has been taken out, and I hope that the families of the killed marines will be rewarded, nothing too OTT, in a sustainable way that all such families can be rewarded equally into the future. The long-term battle of attrition may then be won.

Yep, possible indeed... so might the immediate retaliation from these scumbags.

Agreed, but it won't be on the government or military, per se, it'll be taken out on civilians and cops (ie. kidnap, bind, and execute). The government is admirable for not giving in to these drug lords, but the violence is escalating out of control. There is always another person waiting to take over... I just hope the people of Mexico can hold out.

I am reading the local Mexican newspapers online from Matamoros and Reynosa, where many of these killings are going on, the city halls are sending out TWITTER messages to the citizens so as to avoid in real time where there are shootouts with the local police and/or army and where the mafias are putting up illegal road blocks, where they search every car until they find their enemy and all hell breaks loose. So amigos, if you have to go to my native Mexico now, please stay away from Matamoros, Reynosa and now even Monterrey is starting to see some of this narco-violence. I really pray and hope that Mr.Obama can do more than reach out and touch someone, more like send in secret drone planes, to kind of blow the hell out of these evil mafia dogs (because i am quite sure Mexico does not have these kind of drone planes, like the ones flying over Pakistan etc)I am sure if they can find AlQaeda, they will also find Los Zetas, etc...

I think the US prefers Mexico to be weak, in a Machiavellian "keep your friends close, but enemies closer (and weaker)". Otherwise, they have the resources to wipe the ground with all the gangs in a year or so.

The US has the resources to take out large villas and enclosures. But the clever(er) gangs have spent some of their illegal earnings wisely...
