This heat wave is getting bad, we have had a lot of heath fires near here and the Saddleworth Moor fire was bad but thankfully nothing on the scale of what has hit Greece.

Greece is used to summer fires, so for them to be overwhelmed in this way is an indication of just how bad this fire is.

RIP to the victims.

The charred bodies of 26 people, including small children, were discovered at a villa at the seaside resort of Mati, 40 kilometres (25 miles) northeast of Athens, rescuers said.

They were huddled together in small groups, "perhaps families, friends or strangers, entwined in a last attempt to protect themselves as they tried to reach the sea", said rescuer Vassilis Andriopoulos.

This is the heartbreakingly sad reality of the kinds of disasters that will take many more lives as the planet is devestated by climate change.
