Its not real democracy if corrupt official goes to jail only when it pleases Moon. So why is Moon so quiet about the corruption of his closest aid? "You do the crime, you do the time" doesn't apply to Moon's inner circle?

I wondered how long this would take to happen, and actually it took a little longer than I predicted. What happens next depends upon how corrupted the Supreme Court is. The appeal should either be rejected, or else carried through to a harsher sentence against the corrupt and power-abusing former president. If her sentence is reduced by any measure, it only orives that the courts are backing political motives instead of pursuing justice.

Over what? 3 horses? The accusations they have against her are embarrassing and a joke.

That was something that constituted a bribe and was paid to Choi Soon-sil by Samsung in exchange for preferential treatment. The crimes committed by Park are far more serious:

Park was convicted in April last year of receiving or demanding more than $20 million from conglomerates, sharing secret state documents, "blacklisting" artists critical of her policies, and firing officials who resisted her abuses of power.

Park's treatment therefore is quite justified. Sharing state secrets? Demanding money from conglomerates? Blacklisting anyone who opposes her? Firing people who resisted her? Frankly she was quite lucky to get the sentence she received. She got let off lightly, and yet you would defend her? Just because she's female? Corruption and abuse of power is a serious offence, regardless of gender.

The way they treat their ex-president is shameful and disgusting! A woman ex-president not the less.

Over what? 3 horses? The accusations they have against her are embarrassing and a joke.

Standing up to S. Korea is also standing up for the comfort woman deal signed under Park. She was not the ex-president or had any accusations of bribery against her when we agreed on that deal. The bribery also doesn't involve Japan in anyway shape or form Samsung is involved in that mess.

Well, the Park's family is cursed! Like father like daughter, there is nothing could help such a "Cult worshipping woman"!

re: JJ Jetplane

"Moon is trying to avoid that by rallying the people towards other causes."

Not to get off topic, but you make a point, as it is much deeper than that. 1. The US deployed a missile defense system to protect both allies but Moon on behalf of China's request bowed down and to this day has not put the system up. hmmm. 25yrs is a bit harsh.

In most courts especially in the US the trial would have been thrown out due to technicalities which some how SK court dismisses. Basically shows how much the SK Supreme Court judges are in bed with the executive branch.

The truth of the matter is Moon is using the Japan situation and now this as a way of constantly keeping attention away from him. Right now, the scandal that his friends are in are the same type of scandals that brought down Park. Moon is simply using the Japan situation and the new retrial as a way to divert the attention away from himself. Especially the attention of the people. Even though Park's misdeeds became known, it wasn't the government that brought her down, it was the people that stood against her and forced the government's hand. Moon is trying to avoid that by rallying the people towards other causes.

Is Korea imploding?

Ahhh right. The holding of criminal authority accountable must come as a surprise given how japan and most other so called developed countries aren't truly democratic but are rotten and corrupt to the very core.

Well take this as an opportunity to learn what areal democracy does to corruption. No bows and feigned apologies here. You do the crime, you do the time!!

I figure the louder Moon screams about Japan, the less he thinks people will notice what's really going on.

Is Korea imploding? Sure seems to be a mess these days.

Moon and his financers have been behind the entire process in removing Park from office. Moon has done more harm than good and should be impeached as well as sentenced to prison for his part in the coverup of his gov official scandal to better the success of his daughter and not fairly in university entrance or exams. As for the Chaebol of Samsung, he will not see jail again and get a slap on the wrist. The super mega rich never get arrested for a very long time. When the few rare moments arise it is only a finely imprisoned facility vs a real prison.

This is the message Dictator Moon is sending; cross me and you will pay dearly. President Park Geun-hye made the comfort women deal, and Samsung vice chairman Jay Y Lee tried to cut a deal with Japan. Moon is putting the security, and economy of South Korea in harms way just so he can stay in office by bashing Japan. North Korea is shooting missiles while Moon is shooting off his mouth causing the rift to widen. Both South Korea and Japan Should be finding solutions to get along and face their common enemies. With Moon in power; I don’t think this is possible. Hopefully he will be out before a full blown war starts.
