Pakistan is in danger of becoming a failed state. I'm pretty amazed it hasn't happened yet. Any thoughts? Lack of food, oil expenses no longer subsidized, and lack of exports means bankruptcy isn't far behind. It's always number on a failed state list, even ahead of North Korea. The nuclear threat between India is also the most troubling.

Pakistan needs to control radical elements of religion by lifting up their holy book by showing what is written so the radicals can see they have been led astray from the true teaching.

Governments around the world need to decide if they want to ignore scripture in the holy books or if they want to embrace that wisdom. If they embrace it, they can stop the violence of the radicals and violence can be replaced with study of holy texts to end errors.

TooFarGone: Hope this doesn't throw a wrench in your sad arguments against me. I said that other countries were pressuring Pakistan and you made some lame comment that I was talking about them reading JT. Well, here you go, and your own hero Rice 'to boot'!

That little fact settling aside, I'm glad she's pressuring Pakistan. As I said yesterday, far more good can come out of pressing Pakistan to investigate and act than simply rushing to judgement and seeking vengeance.

Stop the foreign aid and military aid payments immediately going from the US to Pakistan would get their attention. I bet they'd be at the table working this out.

Stop all-l-l-l aid. < :-)

Pakistan and Afghanistan are 2 nations in all sorts of woes of power struggles, with have stiffled right progress. The 2 nations are now undergoing many changes for good.

Pakistan people are a former english speaking colony.

They can do well if they use the english speaking world vast cyber libraries to access knowledge for improving their agro business and other business.

They should role model nations like Qatar,UAE,Saudi arabia and many others to achieve sucess. These 3 nations were sucessful because they were lucky with crude oil well finds.

I believe there can be luck for all people and all nations. God does not discriminate in distributing luck/fortune in Pakistan, which has vast lands for food productions and many other gainful economic activities chances.

There are many educated pakistan scientist/doctors/engineers/ people in UK/USA and also elsewhere, who can help pakistan people. I have met many people from pakistan, and they all a very educated and wise.

They can end their woes, but they need to constantly correct their wisdoms and scrutinise the wisdom of their people. Economic material comfort monetary development, is not discouraged by any holy texts.

The richer pakistan people get and the more rich companies there are in pakistan, the easier it will get to help pakistan progress economically/spiritually.

India and China has used the chances correctly to work with rich companies for richer India/China. Pakistan also can do the same if peace comes into pakistan for rich people to finance pakistan's spiritual/economic progress.

If they follow they humble ways, forgive and forget, then they can move on up. Gilani/Zardari and others must work with people to overcome their woes via good leadership that uplifts their nation in all aspects in all parts especially in NWFP,FATA and in Kashmir areas of pakistan.

The one youth in Mumbai attacks was from troubled Kashmir areas. He would not have become a soldier if he was satisfied with conditions in Kashmir and if Kashmir woes were negotiated via peace deals.

The energy to get better is there, but the energy should be used correctly and also used to correctly up pakistan progress in all fields be it spiritual/material.

There is blessings in all things of life, even in woes. If there is no problems/woes anywhere, nobody needs to work anymore and there will no volunteer work/paid work.

There are many challenges for all in pakistan/afghanistan, there is also much work to done by all to reap the blessings of their good deeds. I also agree with many of marie devine's comments which can be put to good use in pakistan.

Just some comments to add here, from me .

"Rice made an emergency condolence visit to India"

Did anyone else find this wording by JT to be a bit off?

Time to wonder whether Pakistan should be cut loose. Engagement has not been productive.

Good luck with the investigation. Hope the only remaining pig gunmen tells the truth, because the other's were beaten so badly even their corpses are going to be real hard to identify. Needless to say, but the real attackers are already dead save one. What we want are the masterminds.

I don't think its time to be so hard on the Pakistani government. I think we should at least make suggestions before making demands. They have their pride too.

Anyway, the Pakistani government wants these people trained in Pakistan about as bad as the U.S. wanted al-Quaeda training on U.S. soil for 9/11. Its really easy to say they should have done something, but it is never that simple.

Pakistan needs to control radical elements of religion by lifting up their holy book by showing what is written so the radicals can see they have been led astray from the true teaching.

LOL! Well, I would if it wasn't so tragic.

Does the 'true teaching' from which these murders have been led astray include these Koran 'holy book' verses:

[8.12] When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

or, on the subject of women:

[4.34] Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great

I think the 'extremists' are just doing what they're told to do in the Koran.

if not India will deliver 'robust' response by attacking terror cells in Pakistan.

The emotions are rising very high in both countries. A confrontation would be very unfortunate for the whole SE Asia region. Both India and Pak are nuclear capable. The US involvement should go beyond mere diplomacy to actively pursuing the path which benefits both nations facing threats from radical islamists.

These two countries are total civilizational disaster for long time. India has no any human population policy and its people are exploding above 1 billion and millions homeless, and Pakistan is same with militaristic government and poverty plagued.

Maybe if others try to influence them culturally and try to wake them up from their phyodalistic dark dream then they might stop their nonsense war.

Muchakucha, here is a religious quote for you:

"Completely destroy them -- the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites -- as the LORD your God has commanded you. Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God" (Deuteronomy. 20:17-18).

Basically, it says death to the unbelievers. Further justification can be seen as Joshua kills every man woman and child in Jericho except the family of the traitor. Why Jericho? Why just because they were unbelievers sitting on the promised land!

Now, I won't toy with you. Islam has some very clear problems. Judaism went from being a religion of war to a religion of peace with no clear distinction which passages you should follow at any given time. You are free to pick and choose to suit your needs. Islam went from being a religion of peace to one of war, but the real kicker is that it was clearly decided that if any conflict in message occurs, the latter warlike passages over-ride the former peaceful ones. And if you disagree then Mohammad was wrong. But Mohammad just can't be wrong, and Islam will not tolerate such criticism of Mohammad and that is another big problem.

Yet, most Muslims live in peace just like most Christians. Granted that Muslims are more prone to terrorism for a variety of reasons (including living in the past, a place where Christians did a lot of in your face evil too), but no other religion on the planet has proven itself to be near peaceful enough to think Islam is so bad in general. And if 1.4 billion Muslims really thought suicide attacks were the answer, there simply could not be 1.4 billion Muslims in the world now could there?
