At least Richardson pulled his nomination from the running. I'm sorry, but I understand.

I think this was intended to put another high powered hispanic in the Obama team and it stops it in this case. Either he has to put another hispanic here or into another slot to keep a mix/diversity all over. < :-)

"Either he has to put another hispanic here or into another slot"

I hereby nominate Cheech Marin for commerce secretary!

1st disappointment for those who think 'economy' will be top priority of Obama admn in 2009 !

Cheech had to decline, he had to "primer the jeep man".

Trade and commerce withdrawal by Richardson to avoid harming Obama administration with investigations to a state contract given by Richardson.

He can become U.S commerce secretary after being cleared of investigations later on,if Obama decides so later.

This is the same thing the Illinois governor is being investigated for and the Democrats saw fit to throw him under the bus. Richardson (D) seems like a good man but even good men get corrupted by the system. Latest revelations of the Clinton Foundation donor list is showing pay for play relationship with tax dollars secured by Hillary (D).

I hope nobody really thinks Democrats aren't every bit as dirty as Republicans.

oh cracaphat, the primer the jeep thing is just something Cheech would say every once in awhile when he ended a conversation with Chong. Its a vague reference only a real Cheech and Chong fan would get.

Obama is in over his head.

Why, exactly? I'm not such a big fan of Richardson, so this doesn't bother me so much. He got the post largely because of his support during the campaign. I'm sure Obama can find a qualified replacement. (Oh, and I'm not a fan of identity politics either - lets choose the best man/woman for the job, not the best hispanic, thanks.)

I think he was more qualified than Linda Chavez, GWB's original pick for Secy of Labor, who was forced to withdraw after it was revealed she employed undocumented immigrants in her home.

Elaine Chao got the job. Though qualified, she's also the wife of Senator Mitch McConnell which demonstrates the value of family connections in rising to the top.

I wouldn't hold GWB's administration up as a shining example of meritocracy.

-a good reason to pick your cabinet early.

Makes you wonder if there are any employable (uncorrupted) Demo-Coms left. Where will they find the people to fill these jobs? They better put an ad on the internet or something.
