These people actually want refugee status in Australia and this is how they go about it...Send them back to where they came from and see how they are treated there.Australia does not want or need these people in their Society. This is why Australia has taken such a stance on Asylum seekers they need to be screened and processed properly before being allowed to enter. This is nothing about race or religion its about abiding by the laws set. At least Australia does take in Asylum seekers there are plenty of countries that don't.

Just imagine if Australia followed Angela Merkels policy.... all these people would be inside Australia, and millions more would be on the way.

How dare people riot at their five star accommodation!

How dare people riot at their five star accommodation! thats why its called a detention center, its not meant to be comfortable, people that go to Australia illegally all end up in one of these facilities until then are proven to be genuine refugees. Australias effective policy of early boat turn back and compulsory dentention has saved lives and stopped the people coming, mark my word as more EU countries adapt a similar policy the rest will have no choice but to follow suit, well see if Germany can handle the tsunami of people directed its way when other countries shut them out.

turbosats:

" Lots of space in the interior. Or almost anywhere, for that matter. "

That is not issue, but you know that.

Ship them back to the dumps they came from and forget about them.

It will not make any different even they are proven to be genuine refugees. This is becaue current policy states that "Asylum seekers who come here by boat without a visa will never be settled in Australia". There is a Regional Resettlement Arrangement between Australia and Papua New Guinea. So the Asylum seekers can choose to resettle in PNG. If they are found not to be genuine refugees they may be repatriated to their country of origin or be sent to a safe third country other than Australia.

It will not make any different even they are proven to be genuine refugees. yes I know this, so the only option for genuine refugees to apply to be resettled in Australia is to go through the correct process. love it or hate Australias policies have stopped people taking the dnagerous journey and saved lives, people wont risk there lives or waste there money if they know the chances of getting caught is high and resettlemnet in Australia is 0. All these EU countries taking the moral high ground will be changing there thinking very soon, as this tsunami of people wont stop until there are strong deterrents in place to stop them coming

Refugees are just demanding? What will be next free money? Fre housing? Thanks Germany and all European Union now the third world countries want demanding anything else! Appreciate it a lot!

This is one solution to the migrant crisis - it is one that favours citizens over migrants. not sure it may not turn out to be the best of a range of hard choices in the long run

@nostromo,

Meanwhile, Australia sees fit to bomb the countries these people are escaping from...

And which countries, EXACTLY, are the countries that Australia is bombing that the "refugees" in the detention centres are from? I would love to see the data that shows the countries Australia is bombing matched up with the refugees by country of origin in the offshore detention centres.

"Meanwhile, Australia sees fit to bomb the countries these people are escaping from.."

Love the lazy liberal "logic." The Allies waged war against Nazi Germany, just as Nazi Germany was generating a flood of refugees. So if the Nazis were left alone, clearly there would be no refugee problem....right?

I guess it's people's comeuppance. They voted the left, which wants more low-income citizens to gather votes; they voted the right which wants more low-pay workers. This is so ironic. How about voting a party which stands for your own country, regardless of whether it's left or right.

Just imagine if Australia followed Angela Merkels policy....

Or Obama and Kerry. Who, for some reason or other, letting in 200,000 refugees over the next 2 years. There are enough mex & central americans who managed to reach the US.

The group leading the unrest appeared to be detainees who are being held at the facility due to their visas being canceled — not asylum seekers, immigration officials said.

That's right Australian authorities may cancel or revoke visas at anytime. The "boat people" need to realize they may seek asylum, but it is the right of Australia to honor or reject it.

WilliB: That is not issue, but you know that.

It is the issue. How can you claim 'we'll be overrun by immigrants!' in a country with 3 persons per sq. km.?

Just put 'em in the empty places!

"These people "

You have no idea what happened and how many of the detainees participated.

You are simply interested in propaganda against the refugees because you hate them.

Poor showing, old boy.

What do the Aussies have against these poor people, who are born into less fortunate families? Why begrudge them their chance of rebuilding their lives? The Australian people are so horribly unkind. . . .
