From the article -

More than 1,900 Gazans have been killed in the four-week war, roughly three-quarters of them civilians, according to Palestinian and United Nations officials.

So roughly 67% killed are civilians -- this is not okay. Israel needs to do a lot better job in reducing the civilian deaths.

slumdog,

What is the rejection of peace with Israel or of negotiating with Israel for a peaceful two state solution then? Because that is what Hamas continues to do.

The Palestinian Authority is the competent body to negotiate peace between the two states. Hamas reconciled with Fatah, announcing in April that they would accept 3,000 PA police officers in Gaza, and create a unity government of politically non-affiliated technocrats. The US, EU, China, Turkey and India pledged to work with the new government.

A furious Netanyahu responded by authorizing 1,500 new housing units in the occupied West Bank, and seizing on the murder of three young Jewish settlers in June to wrongly blame Hamas (who were still observing their 2012 ceasefire), triggering wholesale raids, the detention of hundreds of Hamas activists, and the death of eight Palestinians - all in the West Bank. Two thousand funerals later, the killing continues.

Hamas is responsible for dead of Palestinian children, women and men in Gaza.

And the Zionists are responsible for creating Hamas -- to give them an excuse for killing more innocent Arabs.

"Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel's creation," says Mr. Cohen, a Tunisian-born Jew who worked in Gaza for more than two decades. Responsible for religious affairs in the region until 1994, Mr. Cohen watched the Islamist movement take shape, muscle aside secular Palestinian rivals and then morph into what is today Hamas, a militant group that is sworn to Israel's destruction.

Hamas has performed one other vital mission: decimating Israel's internal "peace" movement so that the terms can be dictated by the hard-liners (ie, mainstream Zionists) from here on out. Relatively few, like Gideon Levy, have seen through this. The flaccid liberal left, self-satisfied with the phony pullout from Gaza (engineered by the butcher Sharon), saw their delusional hopes for an impossible "peace" dashed when Zionist-created Hamas took over and continued the path of violent resistance.

Crush Hamas once and for all.

Hamas is starting war again. Hamas is responsible for dead of Palestinian children, women and men in Gaza. Hamas is dancing with Israel tune and its leaders are stupid idiot. UN and International donors should not rebuild Gaza and it's wasting money. If you rebuild apartment and road for peoples in Gaza now it will be destroyed by Israel rockets once Hamas attacks Israel again. Palestinian - Israel problem will never solve out as long as Hamas or militant group with armed. Israel will never be given back most of occupy land to Palestinian because Israel Government has already learned from Gaza. In Middle East, Muslims and Jews are enemy to each other. Hatred between two ethnics is very strong. The problem should be inside Middle East and it should not spread to outside Middle East.

UN, Human Right Groups and Medias should be strongly denounced Hamas for starting war and not accepting peace. Otherwise, Hamas think they are getting supporting from world and they will scarify all Palestinian lives in Gaza.

I’m strongly against Israel Government occupying Palestinians’ land and destroying Palestinians homes for Jewish settlement in occupy land. But, I also strongly against Hamas was using civilians as pawns and human shield against Israel in war. Hamas tactics is coward and war crime.

If I were Israel Government and then I’ll do same thing and disarmed Hamas completely for sake of Gaza’s civilians’ lives.

Seriously, did anyone out there take this 'truce' seriously from the start? I knew it was a farce.

Hamas again starting the violence.

Disarmament ultimata are triumphalist, humiliating and self-defeating.

What is the rejection of peace with Israel or of negotiating with Israel for a peaceful two state solution then? Because that is what Hamas continues to do.

The Islamic militants resumed their rocket attacks Friday shortly before the 72-hour truce expired, drawing a wave of retaliatory airstrikes that killed at least five Palestinians.

Hamas and the other militants did not even wait the truce expired before resuming their rocket attacks. What have these rockets attacks achieved besides death and destruction for the Palestinians? What did those in previous confrontations achieve?

Again, I notice no mention or criticism of Hamas at all. Where is that balance you were talking about? I see very little of it actually?

Hamas knows what will happen every time they shoot the rockets, as do the other militant groups. It is a fool's errand to keep making the same mistakes and expecting a different outcome. Hamas needs to give up their violent goals of the destruction of Israel and agree to negotiate for a true two state peaceful solution. It is the only way.

"The Islamic militants resumed their rocket attacks Friday shortly before the 72-hour truce expired"

Idiots.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Israel has said that the militants must disarm first, a demand dismissed by Hamas.

Disarmament ultimata are triumphalist, humiliating and self-defeating.

Does a group smarting from being disarmed have a lower likelihood of re-arming?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Just as I predicted.... Hamas still has a lot of rockets left. They will agree to a "ceasefire" (hudna = time for re-armament in their mind) once the rocket arsenal is seriously depleted, which is not the case yet. And in the meantime, the anti-Israel biased press will provide PR assistence for Hamas while this goes on.
