Get your pitchfork and torches out, you know the radical looney left will nit pick at this and run with this. I hear the crowds forming now.

The Palestinians are genetic Jews. They both share a common heritage.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Time for the folks who were claiming Mitt is 'intelligent' to ear crow.

This guy is thick.

Contrasting the cultures and gdps of Israel and Palastine is simply idiotic not to mention racist.

The former is a free state that receives $400+ billion a year from the US government.

The latter is a city under siege.

But of course, what will conservatives care?

They must blindly support the state of Israel.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

Romney just lost the Election...

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

What a difference between the gaffes, screw ups and insults of Mitt's "world tour" and candidate Obama's in 2008.

What a difference intelligence makes.

Listening to Mitt feels like listening to bUSh only with slightly longer words.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Time for the folks who were claiming Mitt is 'intelligent' to ear crow.

Obama didn't even know where Israel was. http://rubinreports.blogspot.jp/2012/05/if-obama-doesnt-understand-european.html

This guy is thick.

Almost ALL politicians are!

Contrasting the cultures and gdps of Israel and Palastine is simply idiotic not to mention racist.

There was nothing racist about his comments. That is just as bad as if you don't agree with Obama's policies, you are labeled a racist, that is totally absurd and racist in itself to even make that kind of incendiary comments. The man is NOT God and I know liberals want to hold him to God like omnipotent standards, but may I inform you, he is still mortal.

The former is a free state that receives $400+ billion a year from the US government.

Israel is surrounded by enemies and you can't see why that is?? So what are they supposed to do? The US is not allowed to help an ally.

The latter is a city under siege.

And why is that? Hezbollah mantra is to NOT even recognize the Jewish state and refers it to "occupied territory" and support the destruction of the Jewish nation as well as the Jewish people! What are they supposed to do? Be sitting ducks? They will never stop until that goal is reached and when they attack Israelis, of course they will retaliate.

But of course, what will conservatives care?

More than Obama, who basically and literally, snubbed Netanyahu and tried to school him on mideast politics. Which Obama later got his head handed to him.

They must blindly support the state of Israel.

If we don't no one else would. Most of the arab states as well as having some Russian elements are involved in supporting the Palestinians, so what's wrong with the US supporting Israel?

-10 ( +8 / -18 )

Go Mitt! It's about time someone stood up for the right side!

-15 ( +6 / -21 )

Romney just lost the Election...

Never hatch your chickens before they are all accounted for.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

What a difference between the gaffes, screw ups and insults of Mitt's "world tour" and candidate Obama's in 2008.

Mitt acknowledging his mistakes and screw up, where as Obama thinks he never should apologize for anything.

What a difference intelligence makes.

Yep and as long as Obama has his teleprompter, Obama will be fine

Listening to Mitt feels like listening to bUSh only with slightly longer words.

Obama speaks well (provided he sticks to the prompter) but if you don't put a time constraint on him Obama will go on and on and on and saying the same old thing over and over and over....

-13 ( +6 / -20 )

Get your pitchfork and torches out, you know the radical looney left will nit pick at this and run with this.

bass4funk -- and with gfood reason. Or apparently are you incapable of understanding difficult concepts and making a point without insulting someone like Romney ...

“culture makes all the difference.”...Romney said, proceeding to badly flub the economic output numbers on both sides

2 ( +11 / -8 )

What a difference between the gaffes, screw ups and insults of Mitt's "world tour" and candidate Obama's in 2008.

Agreed,

How the fawning press covered Obama 2008 tour as a candidiate and how they are covering Romney's 2012 tour as a hostile press to the candidate has been quite striking and illuminating to say the least.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

@Herefornow

So Then in your opinion, Romney is not allowed to make mistakes. Obama flies off the cuff daily and you have no problem with that, but if a conservative does it. Now all of a sudden, the world plunges in total disarray?

-12 ( +6 / -18 )

Bass - "The US is not allowed to help an ally."

So, $400 billion+ a year and defense tech from the U.S. isn't help?

Now, I know for sure conservatives live in a parallel universe....

4 ( +11 / -7 )

And the US (and other nations) also gave lots of aid to the Palestinians , but most of that disappeared into Arafat's secret accounts and now even his wife cannot find the money...

4 ( +9 / -5 )

"The US is not allowed to help an ally."

Lol

So, $400 billion+ a year and defense tech from the U.S. isn't help?

Yep and as an ally, friendship has its privileges.

Now, I know for sure conservatives live in a parallel universe....

If you think that, then you should confidently feel that Liberals live in a theoretical and backward Bizarro world.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

A fortune could be saved by replacing these articles with a generic one-liner that reads "Presidential candidate panders shamelessly to his (or her) audience in ____ (name of city/country)."

6 ( +8 / -2 )

And the US (and other nations) also gave lots of aid to the Palestinians , but most of that disappeared into Arafat's secret accounts and now even his wife cannot find the money...

Liberals, where is your outrage and condemnation about this?? (crickets)

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

This so called presidential contender,is arrogant and ignorant. I do hope the American people realise this. The face of corporate America at its best. And this sentence " Romney told an audience of affluent Jewish donors—including gambling magnate Sheldon Adelson, who is pumping millions-- into a crusade-- to defeat President Barack Obama" This sounds like a personal vendetta, I thought this was supposed to be an election between the Democrats and the Republicans. What is it with those people with fabulous wealth , don't like it(their money) being threatened. Greed is a sickness

5 ( +13 / -7 )

"In another interview on CNN's Situation Room, Israel's defense minister, Ehud Barak, told Blitzer that Obama's administration had done more to support the relationship between the two nations than any he could remember. "I think that from my point of view as defense minister they are extremely good, extremely deep and profound. I can see long years, [sic] administrations of both sides of political aisle deeply supporting the state of Israeli and I believe that reflects a profound feeling among the American people," Barak said. "But I should tell you honestly that this administration under President Obama is doing in regard to our security more than anything that I can remember in the past."

Heh, even when the conservatives try really, really hard to be good at something, they still miss the bus. :-)

3 ( +8 / -5 )

@minello

This so called presidential contender,is arrogant and ignorant.

You are joking right? Obama is THE poster child of ignorance, every in known human history. Even the liberal L.A. Times admitted it.

Hmmm, I thought so too, yes, what is it with these people and corp. of fabulous wealth? Dems always like to point the finger, but look who were Obama's biggest contributors?

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.php?cid=N00009638

Before you rant about greed. Greed is not something exclusive ONLY to conservatives.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Has Mitt quite finished bending over backwards and appeasing foreign leaders?

I always thought the conservatives didn't like appeasement.

Now their top guy is doing it. Wage the surrender flag, conservatives. :-)

This trip has been a disaster.

Mitt's either insulted his hosts or man-hugged the one's he pretends he really, really likes.

Have to admit that's pretty funny. :-)

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

The Palestinian people and the Israelis (excluding immigrants) are the same race, so Romney cannot be accused of racism.

But it's hardly surprising that areas like the West Bank remain economically disadvantaged when Israel has been imposing sanctions on the territory for many years. Romney's comments amount to criticising a one-legged man for not being able to run as fast as the guy who cut his leg off.

And people will vote for this guy?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Has Mitt quite finished bending over backwards and appeasing foreign leaders?

Mitt doesn't need to, he just has to talk about the economy and Obama has to try and appease his country, his people and foreign leaders, so he'll let Obama do that for him.

I always thought the conservatives didn't like appeasement.

Appeasement and compromise are two different things.

Now their top guy is doing it. Wage the surrender flag, conservatives. :-)

What are you talking about? No surrender was waved. Mitt took a strong stance towards the Palestinians and Iran and was applauded for it.

This trip has been a disaster.

If you look at it from a looney liberal, one-sided pragmatic viewpoint, then it was.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

the article fails to mention the utterly bigoted statement by romney that he saw

the hand of providence

at work in israel's success compared to those other people.

that would be the hand of the american military industrial complex.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

So a conservative shows unequivocal support for Israel and dismisses Palestinian rights. I don't see how that will lose him votes in a US election. Does anyone think that prospective Republican voters would even think about something as ridiculous as rights for Muslims?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Obama is THE poster child of ignorance, every in known human history. Even the liberal L.A. Times admitted it.

You mean the neocon Johah Goldberg said so. That is not an "admission" by the "liberal" L.A. Times. The Times was just generous enough to allow some space for a rightwing wacko. It certainly is entertaining though.

Romney's vision of the world centers around material success and privilege for those he sees as the good people, rich people like himself and Sheldon Adelson who help each other to ever larger slices of the cake. Romney's comments boil down to this: screw the losers, they're at the bottom because of their inferior culture or substandard work ethic.

Romney's foreign policy and economic policy are cut from the same cloth, Machiavellian arrogance. He's not ignorant, he just doesn't care.

9 ( +11 / -3 )

Bass - "Obama is THE poster child of ignorance, every in known human history."

Heh, now it's clear as day conservatives live in a parallel universe. Thanks for proving my next point.

Conservatives hate the "liberal media" I think because the "liberal media" is generally educated and flip out when conservatives and their sorry excuse for leadership butcher their own native language again and again and again.

Ignorant? Try telling that to some of the leading  conservatives >you< supported - like bush and Palin - who can't even speak English without screwing up.

And now Mitt - ignorant, tactless, lots of available mental real estate.

Really, is this the best you guys have got????

Looks like, the love fest that many Jewish voters had with Obama is slowly eroding. A 10 percent loss of Jewish Democrats could shift vote margins in Romney’s favor by 98,000 in Florida, 35,000 in Pennsylvania, 18,000 in Ohio and 8,500 in Nevada, according to the National Jewish Democratic Council, a Washington-based organization.

Wait a minute. Are we talking about Israelis or Jews? Jews are followers of Judaism while Israelis are residents of the nation of Israel, and the writer appears to be using the two interchangeably.

So being successful is a bad thing? Free market is just a waste of time, we should do the trickle down effect and that will bring everyone up and the world will be a rosy place. Increase the size of big government is the way to go, so if you snatch all the money from the top 3% that is a sure fire way of getting the country out of it's economic plight. Really, sigh...Look at California, look how the liberal policies that you think and advocate for, see what it did to my state. You guys cut the cake until there are only crumbs and is not even worth eating anymore. The people that are getting hosed are the lower and middle class and in particular Blacks and latinos. Explain the 44% unemployment for Blacks under Obama! The gap between rich and poor has increased under Obama as well as taxes going up and will go up with this Obamacare. Liberals had a 2 year run with full control of all 3 branches of government, Repubs were marginalized completely and what did they do? absolutely nothing but rack up the debt and increase the deficit!

Romney's foreign policy and economic policy are cut from the same cloth, Machiavellian arrogance. He's not ignorant, he just doesn't care.

Sorry, but again-wrong. The latest poll. Your guy blew it.

There is no way a conservative can make a point on this web site without getting blasted by the 50% who pay no federal income tax, who are probably maxed to the hilt on student loans and whose medical care consists of going to an emergency room since they have no health insurance. All this people hate Romney because: 1) he is an American 2) we know where he went to college 3) he donated his entire inheritance to charity 4) he actually did something before running for President 5) he pays his taxes and has not been in tax trouble like many members of Obama's staff And come to think of it, we found out more about David Holmes in 3 days, than we learned about Obama in over 3 years! As Margaret Thatcher once said "socialism is great until you run out of other people's money" We are out of money and come January 20th 2013 the "50 percenters" will have to start paying or they can move to Cuba or Venezuela...

SushiSake3: What a difference between the gaffes, screw ups and insults of Mitt's "world tour" and candidate Obama's in 2008.

The reason why there are no gaffes, screw ups and insults from Obama is because the mainstream media are not reporting them when it comes to Obama. The mainstream media supports Obama. The mainstream media will put Romney down on their paper. There has not been a negative article on Obama from the mainstream media and liberal media with the exception of FN and conservative media. Maybe the media have always been like this, but it was never so transparent like now. There is no differences between government own/run media and the orther media favoring one party.

2 ( +4 / -3 )

@Sushi

Heh, now it's clear as day conservatives live in a parallel universe. Thanks for proving my next point.

What are you talking about, I proved my point and now you talk as if we are on a school yard??? Wise up.

Conservatives hate the "liberal media" I think because the "liberal media" is generally educated and flip out when conservatives and their sorry excuse for leadership butcher their own native language again and again and again.

Try telling that to some of the leading conservatives >you< supported - like bush and Palin - who can't even speak English without screwing up.

Funny! At least Bush could speak without a teleprompter and having some 20's something kid write everything for him. And don't even get me started on Biden...ROFL

And now Mitt - ignorant, tactless, lots of available mental real estate.

Don't you get tired of using the same boring liberal typical verbal attacks again and again...

Really, is this the best you guys have got????

I know it sucks knowing when you are wrong.

When conservatives like yourself continually prop up losers, it'a precisely why liberals like me think that conservatives don't really give a damn about your own country.

You liberals have been propping up a skinny guy with the best education professor of Constitutional Law and with all that, we are in this mess? Didn't turn out to be quite the Messiah you guys thought he would. So many Dems are trying to distance themselves away from this man, what does that tell you? You should be embarrassed of your guy. Liberals gave up on the country a long time ago. Now after they destroyed California, they will pillage and rape the rest of the nation. So if ANYONE doesn't care about their country it's liberals, think about it, liberals destroyed the 7th largest economy in the world: California, absolutely mind boggling!

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

PlasticMonkey - "Romney's foreign policy and economic policy are cut from the same cloth, Machiavellian arrogance. He's not ignorant, he just doesn't care."

That's characteristic of conservatives in general.

Helping and supporting the underprivileged?

Conservatives don't care.

Maintaining welfare benefits for the elderly, even their own parents?

Conservatives couldn't care less - slash the benefits.

The environment they and their kids live in - conservatives don't give a hoot.

Maintaining critical infrastructure and funding health and education?

Nah, conservatives need to spend money on war.

All the pointers point in the same direction with conservatives - they just don't give a rat's ar_e about anything except war, enriching the 1%, assaulting women's rights, and bashing homosexuals, Muslims, poor, you name it.

And right now, Mitt Romney is the poster child for all the above and he has proved it again and again and will continue to do so.

I'm just glad for his sake that he has enough money to live on when he gets hammered in November.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

bass4funk.

I don't need a pitchfork or anything else to go after Romney. He is doing a great job of selfdestruction all on his own. Hell, at this point I can just sit back and watch the fireworks as he goes down in self inflicted flames.

-1 ( +6 / -6 )

Tatanka: "There is no way a conservative can make a point on this web site without getting blasted by the 50% who pay no federal income tax..."

Where did you get this crazy idea from? The people on this site blasting the support for Romney are more than likely well paid working people living in Japan. Or reasonably well paid working people who are interested in Japan. I can speak for my self in that I have long corporate experience, a long history of properly paying all taxes, paying my own way for medical care and supporting charity.

Despite all these things, I still think Romney is a bumbling fool when it comes to how he has managed his speaking during the election. So if you want to be honest my friend, you should come to the understanding that most of us posting against Romey are just as 1. American 2. Educated and 3. Legally compliant as you are.

Bass - You liberals have been propping up a skinny guy with the best education professor of Constitutional Law and with all that, we are in this mess?

Lol! You're no different from most of the other conservatives.

Muscly arguments, strong words, just a shame there's little if any thought behind them.

Where did that 'mess' come from? Oh yeah, the pack of cowboys conservatives voted in in 2000. The ones under whose watch we got a global recession.

Remember?   No, ok, don't bother. I know facts petrifiy you folks.

, think about it, liberals destroyed the 7th largest economy in the world: California, absolutely mind boggling!

Arnie was a liberal governor now, was he?

Hmm mm.......  Kool Ade ... :-)

No. Stating observations from reading liberal media, conservative media, and mainstream media in both print and/or digital.

-2 ( +3 / -6 )

"The study, published in the May 9 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that Jewish men shared a common set of genetic signatures with non-Jews from the Middle East, including Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese, and these signatures diverged significantly from non-Jewish men outside of this region. Consequently, Jews and Arabs share a common ancestor and are more closely related to one another than to non-Jews from other areas of the world".

Conservatives can breathe a sigh of relief that when it comes to proudly displaying their core values of shameless bravado, stunning hypocrisy, empty rhetoric and nutjob logic, governor Mitt Romney is waving their flag proud and high.

Go Mitt! :-)

2 ( +7 / -4 )

It's not surprising that an American politician, Liberal or Conservative, would continue to support Israel. What IS surprising... or perhaps not... is the racist language Romney used and how he screwed up the economics while using them. Isn't this guy supposed to be a specialty in Economics? It looks like he went there completely unprepared and not at all educated about the history of the area and just spouted off what the Israelis wanted to hear (or what he thought they did, anyway) to try and garner a few points. Fortunately, he's put his OTHER foot in his mouth and the world can see it.

This man is not fit to be a leader in any way or form.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Maybe the media have always been like this, but it was never so transparent like now.

Skip,

It was also pretty transparent also in 2008 before Obama's trip overseas as a candidate from the New York Times in 2008:

And while the anchors are jockeying for interviews with Obama at stops along his route, the regulars on the Obama campaign plane will have new seat mates: star political reporters from the major newspapers and magazines who are flocking to catch Obama's first overseas trip since becoming the presumptive nominee of his party.

The extraordinary coverage of Obama's trip reflects how the candidate remains an object of fascination in the news media, a built-in feature of being the first African-American presidential nominee for a major political party and a relative newcomer to the national stage.

But the coverage also feeds into concerns in McCain's campaign, and among Republicans in general, that the media is imbalanced in their coverage of the candidates, just as aides to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton felt during the primary season.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@Crazyjoe 'Common ancestor'. Now there's a dangerously scientific term. I'd be careful about going there with so many right wingers posting here - use language like 'Ancestors of Shem' so they can understand. Mitt, as with so many conservatives, is able to champion Israel's relative economic success by reference to cultural superiority and other quasi-racist nonsense while ignoring the brutal realities of Israeli policy which keeps the Palestinians hamstrung. Then again, these words did come from a man who was a member of an officially racist organisation. I suppose old habits die hard.

Well, that is a typical liberal spin and I understand, your guy is hurting, quite badly especially after the comment. "You didn't build that" Biggest gaffe in history, finally this socialist President revealed himself for what he truly is. Obama is THE worst in US history, even surpassing Carter and that was a tough one. 50% of Americans trust Romney with the economy over Obama...hmmm. Not good, not good at all for NObama.

@Sushi

No, Mitt's just a "specialty." :-)

Finally, there is hope for you. It's hard, but I knew you would come to your senses.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Just a recap for you Mitt haters out there.

Giving a shout out to my homie Sushi and his doubts of Mitt creating jobs! Love and Peace y'all!

Romney was a "job creator." contrary what liberals want you to believe, Romney's "Free market", privately funded style vs. Taxpayer big government Obama style. Romeny:

AMC Entertainment

Burger King

Burlington Coat Factory

Clear Channel Communications

Dominoes Pizza

Dunkin' Donuts

Guitar Center

The Sports Authority

Staples

Toys "R" Us

Warner Music Group

The Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics

Did some companies fail under Romney, sure, just like any FREE market enterprise company, you are bound to have hit and misses, but Romney is NOT the King of Outsourcing, sorry. He created millions of jobs for people. Now let's take a look at Obama and do a comparison and see his achievements.

Obama's invested Tax payer money

Solyndra-Bankrupt

Ener 1- Bankrupt

Beacon Power- Bankrupt

Abound Solar- Bankrupt

Amonix Solar- Bankrupt

Spectra Watt- Bankrupt

Eastern Energy- Bankrupt

Not to mention, these companies were Obama campaign contributors. So there you go. No wonder Obama will NOT and does NOT want to talk about the economy. I wouldn't either if I were him, the Dems can't run on that, impossible, so the only thing they can do is try their best to vilify and to make Mitt look bad, that he outsourced. Obama should know a thing or two about outsourcing, but of course, liberals will see it always it differently. Because only a Conservative can outsource jobs, never Liberals. Stop drinking the kool-aid.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

bass4funk: Hey, what's the name of that company Mitt outsourced jobs to China for? Or the one he put in his wife's name the day before he became governor?

Yeah, he's doing an awesome job of creating overseas jobs when he's not busy overseas shoving his feet down his mouth. But don't bother asking him about his job creation plans: that's to be decided "when he's elected", not before.

4 ( +8 / -3 )

Mitt Romney’s campaign stop in Israel left behind furious Palestinians charging that the Republican presidential candidate hasn’t fully grasped the complexities of one of the world’s most intractable conflicts.

What's there to understand ? Israel works. Palestine is self-destructive.

I will hazard a guess: Come November you will put on the Hope and Change t-shirt (if you haven't been wearin it every single day since about March of 2008), quaff a another gallon of kool-aid, jump in daddy's Volvo, and head to the polls to vote as many times as possible for your hero, Chairman Zero, aka Barack Obama. I know lots of Democrats like you. What's with the rah-rah, insane overkill ? It's still July.

Hey, what's the name of that company Mitt outsourced jobs to China for? Or the one he put in his wife's name the day before he became governor?

Yeah, he's doing an awesome job of creating overseas jobs when he's not busy overseas shoving his feet down his mouth. But don't bother asking him about his job creation plans: that's to be decided "when he's elected", not before.

@Smith

I see you are NOT commenting your President Mr. Hope and change. Again, typical blinders, when the truth hits you in the face and someone tells you you have a goldfish in front of you and you know that it is, you would still say, it's a Tuna! ROFLMAO

Nice try though.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

@USA 'What's there to understand?' Yes, that's it! Well done! We needn't bother with trivialities like sanctions, blockades and land stealing. Mitt certainly doesn't.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@jimizo

We needn't bother with trivialities like sanctions, blockades and land stealing. Mitt certainly doesn't.

The US doesn't need to bother. Israel can take care of itself. Sanctions? Land stealing? When Israel returned the Gaza strip to the rabble in Palestine those people destroyed most of the infrastructure and even businesses (like green houses) that American philanthropists bought from the departing Israelis to give Pals a start. Israel's enemies don't want peace.

Not at all -- what I see is an idiot before me, and I would still say he's an idiot. Even if I had blinders on I can still hear what he says and laugh at how he's destroying his reputation before even getting started at the presidential race. YOU, on the other hand, seem to be in a sensory deprivation tank and are ignoring everything around you, plugging your ears to the truth and trying to convince yourself when you step out reality will have changed about your contender.

But come on... tell us about all of Mitt's plans if you're so sure about him. Spell them out for us. He's already proven he's a joke on the world stage, and at home for that matter, but feel free to tell us the plans he will not reveal until he's elected.

"You didn't build that" Biggest gaffe in history

@Bass--even taken out of context (as you do), that wouldn't qualify as the biggest gaffe in history, as Obama doesn't qualify as the most ignorant in 'known human history', or as the worst president in history. You need to learn a thing or two about hyperbole. The symptoms of Obama Derangement Syndrome are well known: irrational fear of his ethnicity, doubts about his birthplace, frequent use of the words socialist, fascist, teleprompter, the One, apologizing for America, radical. Calm down and get some perspective.

Taxes under Obama are still lower than they have been in many decades, and even his proposed tax reforms that are so vehemently shouted down by Mitt and the GOP would hardly qualify as socialist, unless you think Eisenhower was an even more dangerous socialist.

As for foreign policy, Obama has been far more aggressive and Bush-like than I would have preferred. He is not "soft on Islamic terrorists". He has not "thrown Israel under the bus". He is not "appeasing" Iran. Romney on the other hand has shown himself to be irresponsible in his foreign policy statements. Giving Israel overt encouragement to bomb Iran may help in raising cash from Sheldon Adelson, but if he ever becomes president (god forbid) Romney is going to have to face the consequences of his tough guy rhetoric.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

What IS surprising... or perhaps not... is the racist language Romney used and how he screwed up the economics while using them. Isn't this guy supposed to be a specialty in Economics?

The part of the article (much to shock of no one) that they left out on his so called "racist" remarks:

Mr Romney said he had thought about how Israel had achieved greater prosperity than its neighbours.

He referred to a book called The Wealth And Poverty Of Nations, by David Landes, which examines how some societies became more prosperous than those of their neighbours.

Mr Romney said he had concluded from the book that "if you could learn anything from the economic history of the world it's this: culture makes all the difference.

He added: "And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognise the power of at least culture and a few other things."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-19055643

This is the same book that The New York Times said at the time it was published in 1998 in its review:

It punctures much scholarly pretension and demonstrates the poverty of economics uninformed by historical understanding. Its erudition ranges from the Aztecs to modern Zaire (now Congo), from the limits of economic rationality to the technological consequences of chopsticks. Readers cannot but be provoked and stimulated by this splendidly iconoclastic and refreshing book.

Taxes under Obama are still lower than they have been in many decades

The inflation we have is basically a tax, and what is going to come will be the most massive tax America has faced. We will have Obama and his party to blame.

-7 ( +2 / -10 )

Not at all -- what I see is an idiot before me, and I would still say he's an idiot. Even if I had blinders on I can still hear what he says and laugh at how he's destroying his reputation before even getting started at the presidential race. YOU, on the other hand, seem to be in a sensory deprivation tank and are ignoring everything around you, plugging your ears to the truth and trying to convince yourself when you step out reality will have changed about your contender.

You don't like Mitt, that's clear, got it. As for me ignoring everything around me, goes to show you that you are living in the land of liberal Bizarro. I see what this President has done and is still doing to my country. I see how we are the laughing stock of the world, how leaders love Obama, but don't respect him, a man who is a projection of weakness a man that wants to punish entrepreneurship and the FREE market, a man that embraces socialism, big government, high taxes and waste tax payer money on Green projects that DO NOT WORK. I see the reality for what it is, I see that Obama is the poison that needs to be cut out of politics, we have already developed gangrene and Obama is the cause that we need to saw off before it is too late. Pretty soon, we'll all be speaking French. Enough is enough already!

But come on... tell us about all of Mitt's plans if you're so sure about him. Spell them out for us. He's already proven he's a joke on the world stage, and at home for that matter, but feel free to tell us the plans he will not reveal until he's elected.

I don't know exactly for detail what Mitt's plans are, I just know that he promised to strengthen the economy, encourage small business growth, create more jobs in the private sector. Which is what I care about. In contrast to Obama, he stated clearly as what he wanted to do, which is turn our country into France and he kept that promise sure enough. He was from the get go clear as what his intentions were. So to answer your question, basic Romney plans, we do know, just like with Obama, so I am not shocked by what Obama is doing because he was upfront, so is Mitt. By the way, that 8.2% unemployment, how is that working out for your guy and economy?

Smith, I'm quite agreeable to the fact that you and others will just casually insult Romney and conservatives in general as "idiots", "dolts" and a myriad of other pretty demeaning things with the full expection that some may actually disagree with that profound assessment and respond accordingly to those rather deep intellectual postings that use such enhancers to bolster another well thought out Liberal position on todays current issues.

-1 ( +2 / -2 )

Bass, time to educate you.

The GOP - and Mitt Romney - want the following:

1/ More tax cuts for the rich

2/ Deep reductions in domestic spending (that's benefits for hard-working Americans, probably including your parents and relatives, as well as past-necessary spending on infrastructure)

3/ Big increases in military spending - which will obviously create even more enemies of America and result in perpetually huge Pentagon budgets

Everything above screws the middle class, which built America.

Be honest - you don't have to repeat the huge mistake you made last time by voting Republican.

Just another example that the USA are not a democracy but a maketingacy. He said what he said to collect millions in Israel and to gain the votes of the Jewish in US. Actually his apparent knowledge of the issue seems clearly to show that he does not care at all of the matter. He is just a big mouth that could fit in the US, but not in the rest of the world.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

“You notice a stark difference in economic vitality” between Israel and the Palestinians,

Yes, that's certainly true. Palestinians have less money. Nice of the presidential hopeful to point that out. Greeks and Italians are poorer than the Germans as well...can't wait until he visits Europe.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Mr Romney said he had thought about how Israel had achieved greater prosperity than its neighbours.

He added: "And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognise the power of at least culture and a few other things."

what mr. romney most importantly fails to mention is the trillions of dollars in US aid that the "jewish state" of israel has received from the crusading pseudo-christian usa since freemason harry truman short-circuited the united nations processes of setting up a modern pluralistic democratic state in the former british administered territory of palestine.

what else he fails to mention is the apartheid-like policies imposed on the palistinians by the jewish state of israel, and the massive amount of arms from the usa--which israel has purchased with some of the trillions in aid--that it has used to enforce those apartheid-like policies.

and romney wants to be president of the usa...

should that happen, he would likely cause the world to descend into chaos, and the usa would become a footnote in history, along with all of the other empires of hubris.

3 ( +5 / -1 )

@Ubikwit

You said it. Perfectly.

2 ( +5 / -2 )

Yep, Romney in Europe would be very much fun. Or imagine Mitt in Japan or China. Basically, guys like him can only lose outside of the USA. Me personally, I love the Republicans before elections, because they are the most entertaining (and embarassing) bunch in politics. At least the Italians got rid of Berlusconi when they realised that their government and country were nothing but ridiculous to the rest of the planet. The American right wingers, however, shoved Bush into office a second time. And they are even trying to dwarf their best entertainment successes from the past. Who will be the next Palin? Does Mitt need another funny sidekick, or is he good enough for 24/7 on the comedy channel all of his own?

4 ( +7 / -2 )

. You could say and also mention for context, the trillions of US aid to the Japanese state that was set also to short-circuited the united nations processes of setting up a modern pluralistic democratic state in the former Empired administered nation of Japan.

-2 ( +2 / -5 )

Well, just when you thought the partisan mudslinging couldn't get any worse, Mr Romney's travelling press secretary Rick Gorka completely lost his cool with reporters today in Poland when they tried to question Romney on the trips gaffes, uttering "Kiss my ass. This is a holy site for the Polish people" and then went on to tell another journalist to "shove it".

You really couldn't write this stuff.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Both Obama and teh other guys are behaving like determined political whores, without the slightest concern for the moral price of their obscene embrace of the Jewish golem.

Israel is undoubtedly a crime against humanity; this is what it essentially was when the brat was misbegotten 64 years ago, and this is what it has always been ever since, a diabolical entity living and thriving on aggression, bellicosity and war.

Indeed, the fact that almost every American politician, feels obliged to grovel at Israel's feet, or else commit political suicide, illustrates the moral degeneration corroding America's collective conscience.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

@Johanes

Yep, Romney in Europe would be very much fun.

He just left Europe. Romney was praised in Poland yesterday. He was met by the people's hero, Lech Walesa. Walesa gave him a strong endorsement. Romney praised the Poles and their economy and its progress. Did Russia or neighboring European nations throw a fit a call Romney racist, like the people in Palestine ?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

" Romney said some economic histories have theorized that

"culture makes all the difference."

"

And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things,"

Romney said, citing an innovative business climate, the Jewish history of thriving in difficult circumstances and the

"hand of providence.

" He said similar disparity exists between neighboring countries, like Mexico and the United States. "

Those are excellent points. Israel-haters have no decent, intelligent reply.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It's funny that when a story about Romney comes out in a negative light, and for good reason, conservatives defend him by conjuring up and criticizing Obama. What is so difficult about defending Romney on merit? If he had a legitimate point to make it should be easy to defend. Bringing up tangential doctrines makes for a weak debate. It often seems that the Romney camp's best offense is the rhetorical Obama attack. I hope this doesn't go on much longer because the fact checkers will start to disprove many of the allegations made by the GOP and we may lose the race again come November.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Just another example that the USA are not a democracy but a maketingacy. He said what he said to collect millions in Israel and to gain the votes of the Jewish in US. Actually his apparent knowledge of the issue seems clearly to show that he does not care at all of the matter. He is just a big mouth that could fit in the US, but not in the rest of the world.

You call yourself "Open minded" but it seems otherwise. Mitt knows has more extensive knowledge than the other guy that is occupying the WH and he has THE biggest mouth in the world and an even bigger ego to go with it. And who cares whether he can fit in the rest of the world, it's an American election NOT a UN election.

@Madverts

That's just as bad as Biden's "This is a big F**g deal!" I don't blame Gorka for losing his cool. You libs are worse than the NHK people knocking on your door and at every twist and turn and corner, the only thing that they can ask Romney is about his "taxes" or gaffes? There are real serious issues that need to be dressed that are affecting the country. The liberal media has totally lost it's damn mind with this.

@ubikwit

what else he fails to mention is the apartheid-like policies imposed on the palistinians by the jewish state of israel, and the massive amount of arms from the usa--which israel has purchased with some of the trillions in aid--that it has used to enforce those apartheid-like policies.

I will not say that Israel was always fair and just in the way it handled the Palestinian issue, but as an ally and as a country that is surrounded by enemies, Israel is at a disadvantage, giving these arms tilt the balance. The Israelis have tried and tried. There are many Arabs that live and co-exist with the Israelis and they have some Arabs in the Knesset. West Bank is a lot better off than Gaza. Gaza is the eye sore for the Jewish nation. Hezbollah has sworn to destroy the Jewish people and won't recognize the state of Israel. So that is NOT a threat? They are sitting ducks and you basically think that Romney turns his back. We all know how Obama thinks. How about other nations taking in the Palestinian refugees? No one wants them, that's why. Which is something I could never understand.

and romney wants to be president of the usa...

He sure does!! :-)

should that happen, he would likely cause the world to descend into chaos, and the usa would become a footnote in history, along with all of the other empires of hubris.

We already have Obama doing that to the country, beat him to the punch!

@farmboy

Yes, that's certainly true. Palestinians have less money. Nice of the presidential hopeful to point that out. Greeks and Italians are poorer than the Germans as well...can't wait until he visits Europe.

So now you have to walk on egg shells? You can't tell the truth otherwise, they will call you every name is the book. I forget, we have to live in a pc world.

@Johannes

The American right wingers, however, shoved Bush into office a second time. And they are even trying to dwarf their best entertainment successes from the past. Who will be the next Palin? Does Mitt need another funny sidekick, or is he good enough for 24/7 on the comedy channel all of his own?

So then you agree having Obama do a second term would be disastrous one. Palin energizes the base and that's good enough. At least she ran a state, even if she didn't finish her term, now compare that to a Chicago style politician that never wrote up any legislation experience Obama sponsored 129 bills since his arrival in the US Senate, but only 9 of them came out of committee and only one of them became law – a testament to how out of touch he is with mainstream law and politics. This man became the highest executive manager in the land without having any prior executive experience whatsoever. He has never managed a business, never managed a municipality and never managed a state and it shows in his governing. So how is Mr. hope and change so called better than Bush doing? Let's look at the Unemployment record (after all, that IS the real issue, even if Dems and Liberals try to take the focus off) 8.2% unemployment is at a high for all Americans, but the black unemployment rate has skyrocketed under Obama's administration. June 2011 showed black unemployment at just over 16%, Again16%!! Which is not only higher than that of Asians or whites, but DOUBLE. In fact, black unemployment has doubled since Obama took office. So theoretically being that as jobs are created (where are they?), all groups will be lifted. Except that ALL groups aren't soaring in unemployment rates as fast or as drastically as blacks. In fact, Obama is instead proposing to raise corporate taxes and thereby sending MORE jobs overseas, leaving less available here we don't have hardly any, but he is willing to do that? 34% of American black children are living in poverty, compared to just 10% of American white children. Obama, often dubbed the food stamp president because the rates of people on food stamps has gone up in astronomical numbers (45%), and in so doing, his Administration has been forced to cut the amount of benefits going to each family, thereby further ensuring that those children, who often eat only the meal they get in school, will receive even less assistance. Think about it, 2007 it was 8% and now 44% for Blacks, But I guess Obama is NOT to blame for any of this, right? Obama never made jobs his first priority, he himself said, if he can't create jobs in his first term, he doesn't deserve a second term. I'm all for that. That was the first time, he made sense and he said it without the aid of a teleprompter. Obama blocked oil production of the Keystone pipeline holding back thousands of potential jobs. Supports Green Energy (which I do support, provided it comes from the private sector, but no, he as to use tax payer funds) Laws HE likes get informed, ones HE dislikes don't. But if you DISAGREE with Obama, you are automatically brand a racist. Blaming Bush doesn't get liberals anywhere, but annoys voters. The first year, year and a half, fine, give you that, but 2nd, 3rd, 4th, sorry, it's his own. This President is so bad, not to mention radical, you can't make this up! You can't even joke about it.

-9 ( +1 / -11 )

It's funny that when a story about Romney comes out in a negative light, and for good reason, conservatives defend him by conjuring up and criticizing Obama. What is so difficult about defending Romney on merit?

@MrDarryl

I don't see it anymore different than when your guy does something negative that you guys will always, always back him up. You can't even criticize Obama, because that would make you a racist. Once you invoke the race issue, you lose the argument, a perfect tactical move that liberals use time and time again, because that is their ace.

-7 ( +1 / -9 )

@Sushi, time to educate you, properly!

Dems - and Obama- want the following:

1/ More tax cuts for the rich

The trickle down effect DID NOT work, so you are against lowering taxes for small businesses is an absolute crime. Forget strengthening the public sector, no investment, high taxes, people will move and do business elsewhere. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2011/07/steve-wynn-rant-on-obama.html

2/ Deep reductions in domestic spending (that's benefits for hard-working Americans, probably including your parents and relatives, as well as past-necessary spending on infrastructure)

We need to stop the bleeding, but for some reason liberals answer to everything is spend, spend and more spending! I never heard liberals trying to cut anything or any program, how can we afford it, we HAVE NO MONEY! No money for ANY infrastructure, liberals never worried about fixing bridges, roads since they have been in power, Obama promised! Hey, every had a chance to drive a car in NY? Again, look at California, the liberals still don't get it!

3/ Big increases in military spending - which will obviously create even more enemies of America and result in perpetually huge Pentagon budgets

Not that old mantra, please don't give me Jimmy Cater talking points, spare me! With countries like China, Russia and to an extent Valenzuela you think cutting back funding our military is a good idea. Oh, I forget, liberals and their hippie philosophy is always to throw daises at our enemies. We SHOULD have a strong military defense, there are other areas where we can cut wasteful spending, but that would be the equivalent to telling Kim Kardashian to stay out of the news!

Everything above screws the middle class, which built America.

The middle class that built America, got jobs from the....hmmm, oh, yeah the top 3% the same group that Obama wants to tax into oblivion. (See California)

Be honest - you don't have to repeat the huge mistake you made last time by voting Republican.

-8 ( +1 / -10 )

So now you have to walk on egg shells?

When you are the president of a powerful nation, comparing two of our supposed allies who might like to kill each other, yes, being careful with your speech would be the adult thing to do.

Beyond that, attributing material wealth to culture or the hand of God is a little disturbing. God, from all reports, loves the poor as well, and historically, national economic well-being has gone in cycles, no matter what the culture.

Within the respective cultures, there are rich Israelis and poor Israelis, as well as rich Palestinians and poor Palestinians. Romney, according to the article, did not just offend the Palestinians, but some of the Israelis as well with his attempt to paint in such broad strokes. I'm not sure the Mexicans were all that happy either with his comments either, and that's where Romney's grandfather was born.

Which is something I could never understand.

the issue is with the theocratic bend and intentions of the religious right in america and israel.

i've already mentioned mr. bible belt freemason harry truman, but not his militant zionist friends--too cumbersome to go into here.

at any rate, even hamas has demonstrated a potential willingness to recognize israel and agree to the united nations resolutions guaranteeing security, etc. the problem is the land that israel took in the 1967 wars, and the people that they displaced.

and that is partly why obama specified that the 1967 borders are the starting point for negotiations, it's obviously the only way of proceeding in a manner that will embrace any sort of value system including a semblance of universal justice.

if the two-state solution is not going to work, then israel is giong to have to become a pluralistic modern democracy where everyone has equal rights, including political rights. and that means there is a question as to what would be called "israel"? etc.

if the united nations had been able to establish such a state in the first place, i don't think that the world would have seen the conflicts between muslims and christians/jews in the 60 years or so since mr. trumans biased and irresponsible act.

there's nothing "blah blah blah" about this issue. it goes straight to the core of the question of the question of religion and the state. politicians like romney are trying to capitalize on religion, thereby undermining democracy.

here's an article fresh from today's news that sheds a little more light on the problems in a country that has a "culture" that mitt romney want to single out as superior over that of its economically struggling neighbor.

note the comments of one

Ultra-Orthodox leader Meir Porush

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-19072717

-1 ( +1 / -1 )

In recent years, the U.S. has remained constant in its support for establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel, regardless of whether a Democrat or a Republican sat in the White House.

What? You cannot be serious. That is an outrageous comment. While I'm sure that there are many people within the US who do support the two-state solution which most of the world is in favour of, the US politically has vetoed UN resolution after resolution after resolution after resolution for years.

And just to remind you that it was the US who pulled UNESCO funding after Palestine was granted full membership. If you don't beleive me, look it up. Yeah, great "support" that is.

Zen student:

" And just to remind you that it was the US who pulled UNESCO funding after Palestine was granted full membership. If you don't beleive me, look it up. Yeah, great "support" that is. "

That is a nonsensical statement. "Palestine" is a geographical area, comprising Israel, the Sinai, Gazah, the Westbank, Jordan, Lebanon, and even Syria,

Of course, the confusion is by design. "The Palestinians" is a codeword for muslim Arabs, who resent the existance of Israel. In realiy, The Jews are the original inhabitants of Palestine, i.e. the original "Palestinians".

LOL, and there is no issue with the theocratic bend of radical islamists in the Arab world and everywhere else who are united in opposition to the existance of Israel?

Mr.Darryl:

" It's funny that when a story about Romney comes out in a negative light, and for good reason, conservatives defend him by conjuring up and criticizing Obama. "

It is about "a story about Romney", it is a flood of stories all trying to make him look bad, with varying degrees of factual basis. While at the same time Obama can blunder as he wants, and the press keeps their heads firmly in the sand.

It is about the press acting as propaganda arm for the current White House.

In other words, it is about hypocrisy.

-2 ( +1 / -4 )

There is inability of many politicians in the U.S. to play fair-minded intermediary role between Israel and Palestine. Romney has decided to come down squarely on Israel’s side and Palestinian counts for nothing beyond an occasional weak endorsement. U.S. has a role to play in Palestinian rights in the face of an ongoing Israeli land grab. The consequences of Israel-Palestine being a domestic U.S. political issue are tragic. For Romney to travel to Israel and not have to confront hard-hitting questions about Israeli domination of Palestinian lives suggests that U.S. politicians will be under no pressure any time soon to explain why they support policies.

Romney angers Palestinians with pro-Israel comments

Palestinians teach their children to hate Jews. Yes, their culture is sick. Romney told the truth and the Left hates that. I love it.

-1 ( +2 / -4 )

I think I would be worried if Romney went to Israel and the people of Palestine weren't enraged. After all, just about everything else seems to make them angry...

-1 ( +2 / -4 )

Well at least Romney and the Israelis have something in common : their forefathers on one side and (more recently) their fathers/grandfathers on the other, invaded two different countries and called them their own...

Of course, the confusion is by design. "The Palestinians" is a codeword for muslim Arabs, who resent the existance of Israel. In realiy, The Jews are the original inhabitants of Palestine, i.e. the original "Palestinians".

Assuming that were true. The fact that Jews lived there for a few decades thousands of years ago does not give them the right to kick out the Palestinians who have been living there for the past several centuries to make room for Jews anywhere in the world to move in.

While I'm sure that there are many people within the US who do support the two-state solution which most of the world is in favour of, the US politically has vetoed UN resolution after resolution after resolution after resolution for years.

Great points, Zen. If the US truly believed in a two-state solution, they could simply stop all aid to Israel and possibly even sanction Israel until they return to the 67 border and allow the right of return; i.e., abide by international law, Instead we have Romney basically agreeing with all Israeli talking points, including making Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

kimuku, last time the Arabs had control of Jerusalem, they prevented the Jews from praying at the West Wall. They disrespect it plus more. The West bank was part of Jordan and not a part of the Palestinian state. Lastly if the Arabs could take over Israel, they would kill all of the Jews. The USA feels it owes something because of the Jewish holocaust. This is the one place they are safe, their homeland.

Funny, that the the old Mittster goes on his $$$ tour to Israel to get...more $$$ by playing the race card, stroking the ego of a few very wealthy Israeli Jews that do not like Mr.Obama, and at the same time, Mitt is a devout Mormon, and the Israeli government has WARNED Mormons from being too active in their religious activities in Israel and converting innocent Jews in that faith, but oh, politics, I guess a Mormon president and WHITE is better than a Christian president and Black?? Oh, and the Muslim name must really anger some hard core Jews not only in Israel but in other parts of the world too?? But hey, the USA and Israel are democracies, just like Japan, we are free to give our opinions, and as for me, old Mitt is just about $$$, helping the rich get more and more $$$ so I really hope he burns in hell!

YuriOtani,

Lastly if the Arabs could take over Israel, they would kill all of the Jews.

Jews lived in peace with the Muslims and Christians in Palestine, before the zionists took over.

The USA feels it owes something because of the Jewish holocaust.

Why? The US did not do the Jewish holocaust.

This is the one place they are safe.

No it isn't. Jews are safe in most countries of the world; even in Iran.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Don't you get sick of repeating the same things over and over? Israel and Palestine are two countries that need to find a way to coexist. The only solution is the two state solution. You have said you are against this. Hamas also says this. Repeating your version of history, or revision or history does not change the fact that negotiations that Hamas is against are the only way to make peace and have these two nations exist peacefully together.

Why? The US did not do the Jewish holocaust.

Why do you asked this question when you have stated in the Nazi commandant thread that you do not believe anyone was killed in the gas chambers? You remember, that is when you complained you were not being allowed to say anything nice about the commandant. When you were encouraged by everyone, including the moderators, you had nothing to say.

even in Iran.

Yes, I hear it is such a paradise for them that Jews from around the world are banging at Iran's door to let them come in.

VicMOsakaAug. 04, 2012 - 10:30AM JST And, if someone came in to your country and forced you from the land, bulldozed your houses, destroyed your farms and orchards, filled in your water wells etc., under the premise that God said that they could have the land, you would hate them too.

First of all, Israel was created by the UN from land that formerly belonged to Great Britain via the League of Nations, which formerly belonged to the Ottoman Empire. Jews flowed back to the Middle East due to their slaughter during WWII. The Palestinians did not have their own land any more than the Gypsies have their own land. When the UN created the state of Israel, then also created the new state of Palestine. However, the Palestinians rejected their own state because they refused to live in peace side-by-side with Jews. Immediately, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan went to war against Israel.

I wonder how different the last 70 years would have been if Palestinians and others in the Middle East where not so hateful and aggressive towards the UN mandated existence of Israel? If there were no wars declared by other Middle Eastern countries there would have been no reason for Israel to respond aggressively. If there were no terrorist attacks, suicide bombers, or rocket attacks then Israel would not have had to respond in kind.

The basic issue is this, the UN gave both Jews and Palestinians their own countries. At the time, neither had their own homeland. Palestinians and their Muslim allies rejected outright the state of Israel because they hate Jews. Therefore, Jews have done what they have had to do to survive. The Palestinians would have their own country now had they not hated Jews so much. Hate breeds hate and the Palestinians how sowed the seeds of their own misery.

1 ( +2 / -2 )

The only solution is the two state solution.

Israel would accept a two state solution tomorrow but only if the wars and terrorism against them stop. Because Palestinians will never accept Jews because they hate them and consider them filthy pigs, there will be no peace in the region unless Muslims are able to obliterate the Jewish people out of existence.

It is pure stupidity to continue to attempt to peacefully resolve this issue unless Muslims change their minds and accept Jews as having a valid historical right to live in the region. Otherwise the process merely generates continued hatred and division. Jews have a siege mentality and will rightly do whatever they need to do to survive. Unfortunately, Palestinians will continue to reject Jewish people because they hate their religion and will force their people to live in misery because they believe the ends justify the means.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The former is a free state that receives $400+ billion a year from the US government.

Ah sushi you might want to take off two zeros from that number. It is more like $4 billion dollars.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The only solution is the two state solution. You have said you are against this. Hamas also says this.

Actually, Hamas has expressed acceptance of the two-state solution, based on the '67 border. The vast majority of the UN General assembly have expressed interest in the two-state solution, based on the '67 border, evidenced by the almost unanimous resolution they pass every year. Israel is the one who does not want to settle, they just continue to expand (take more land).

Yes, I hear it is such a paradise for them that Jews from around the world are banging at Iran's door to let them come in.

The Jews of Iran have no desire to leave. Many Jews from around the world do move to Israel, to take advantage of the subsidized (by US taxpayers) housing, Iran would not give them such attractive incentives.

Israel was created by the UN from land that formerly belonged to Great Britain via the League of Nations,

The land did not "belong" to Great Britain, they were only supposed to administer the land. Britain had no right (moral or legal) to kick out the Palestinians who had been living there for the past several centuries to make room for Jews anywhere in the world to move in. The fact that Jews lived there for a few decades thousands of years ago does not give them a "valid historical right to live in the region".

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Actually, Hamas has expressed acceptance of the two-state solution

Actually, Hamas has done no such thing. You know this. Hamas has said they want a ten year truce in exchange for the land based on the 67 border. They have said repeatedly and recently that they do not want peace with Israel and will not accept peace with Israel. Hamas' leaders have said the ten year truce (called a hudna) would be used to fight the final battle for all of Israel. You may agree with this position. Unsurprisingly, Israel does not. Why repeat these things again and again? I just do not get it.

The Jews of Iran have no desire to leave.

Many cannot leave even if they want to. Many have left. I have seen little evidence of lots wanting to go to live in Iran. As you already know, Jews are second class citizens in Iran and are not allowed to have certain jobs, etc. You may find this acceptable, however, the lack of Jewish immigrants moving to Iran shows they do not find it acceptable. Your claims about where Jews do immigrate and why falls short as there are plenty of Jewish immigrants in Europe and the US. By the way, lots of countries offer subsidies to immigrants. It is hardly rare. However, you are correct, there is no way in heck that Iran would give Jews such incentives. Iran really does not want them there, so why should they?

The land did not "belong" to Great Britain...

Revised and bias history has nothing to do with this. Despite your deepest wishes for Israel to disappear or for it to be made to disappear, it will not happen. The only solution is a two state one and Hamas does not want that. Until they can be convinced that it is to their advantage, there will not be peace. I hope someday they change their minds. As I also hope one day yours does too, Ciao.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

The land did not "belong" to Great Britain, they were only supposed to administer the land.

And that is exactly what they did - they administered that piece of land now known as Israel, other parts and pieces. Then the UN took it over and gave it to Israel and to the Palestinians. The Palestinians wanted their land and the land given to the Israeli's and went to war to get it. They lost the war and therefore lost the land that they could have had in the process. It the Palestinians and their "benefactors" in the Muslim world were not so greedy they would have a homeland today. But no - they still want it all and are forever using terrorism to try to get it.

Arafat had a golden opportunity in 2000 to get a negotiated peace but he turned it down. Why? Because if he had accepted peace he would have chopped up into pieces by Hamas, or the Iranians, or Al Qaeda, or some other bunch of crazy killers.

The Palestinians do have a culture problem. A culture of death and hatred. They will never be satisfied until they kill every Jew in Israel. For this reason, there will never be peace in the region until one side kills off most of the other side. It's so sad and unnecessary but such is the state of the Palestinian mind.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I have seen little evidence of lots wanting to go to live in Iran.

Nobody has claimed that Jews want to move to Iran, only that they generally have no desire or need to leave Iran.

Your claims about where Jews do immigrate and why falls short as there are plenty of Jewish immigrants in Europe and the US.

Exactly!!! Thank you for proving the main claim, which is that the following is not true: "This is the one place they are safe, their homeland."

By the way, lots of countries offer subsidies to immigrants. It is hardly rare.

Indeed, but what is very rare is the kicking out of the native population to make room for these immigrants. US taxpayers are subsidizing the displacing of Palestinians, who have been living there for centuries, to make room for Jews from anywhere in the world, usually from places where they can live safely and well.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The only solution is a two state one and Hamas does not want that.

You agreed that Hamas has accepted the two-state solution based on the internationally-recognized '67 borders. I disagree with the 10-year ceasefire though, do you have any believable evidence for that? If Israel was interested in peace, they would not expand settlements (i.e., take more Palestinian land).

The main point about settlements is not that they obstruct diplomacy (which they clearly do), but rather that they are recognized by everyone as illegal. International law unequivocally prohibits the settlement of part of its population in occupied territory. While this prohibition arises from Article 49, Article 1 requires parties not merely to respect the terms of the convention in their own conduct but also to ensure that others do. All states that are party to the Geneva Conventions have the duty to ensure that Israel's illegal policy of creating settlements in occupied Palestinian territory ceases without further delay.

Romney's comments show that he has every intention to ignore the obligations of the US to respect the Geneva Conventions.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

only that they generally have no desire or need to leave Iran.

People generally prefer to stay where they were born and where they have family and friends. That does not change the fact they are second class citizens in Iran.

Thank you for proving the main claim, which is that the following is not true

??? I did not make that claim. I am merely responding to what you wrote and what you wrote was off the mark for the reasons I wrote.

Indeed, but what is very rare is the kicking out

Your continued (for how many years now?) attempts to revise history again have nothing to do with this argument. Israel exists. It is a UN recognized country. You do not like this. In fact, you hate this. However, it does not change the facts of this.

I disagree with the 10-year ceasefire though, do you have any believable evidence for that?

??? You have had this conversation so many times and have had evidence given to you so many times. Please stop it. Isn't it bad enough you are posting under at least two different names in this discussion? Do you have to compound it by ignoring reality time and time again? Believeable evidence? I believe Hamas when they say it.

The main point about settlements is not that they obstruct diplomacy

??? The Palestinians have gotten nothing from not negotiating for peace. You are against a two state solution. You are against the existence of Israel. Hamas agree with you. Settlements? You know there are none in Sinai and Gaza. Why? Because when Israel leaves, they take them with them. If and when (hopefully within our life times) Palestinians negotiate and Hamas is willing to negotiate for peace, the settlements will be dismantled. Just as they have been in Sinai and Gaza.

Bottom line is that you actually have to be for a two state solution to really be willing to discuss it. You are not yet either, Ciao. Hopefully someday you will change your mind. I am eternally hopeful of this.
