Mitt Romney pushed all the right buttons on this one. The left is still freaking out.

If America had a half-decent education system, I suspect that 95% of whites would vote Obama. But that ain't gonna happen, is it?

Lucabrasi - Obama's party controls our public schools system. I think you don't know the first thing about the matter.

Obama has been a terrible president when it comes to black poverty and unemployment - the facts are the facts. Romney told them like it is and they couldn't handle the truth.

Regardless, the NAACP has ceased being a civil rights organization long ago. They are more of a hate group and an arm of the Democrat party. The are constantly deployed by Democrats to run around the country calling white people racists. They are a one trick pony that hasn't been able to stay up with the times. They still think that America is riddled by hooded klansman riding around on their horses lynching innocent black children on their way home from their segregated schools. Ironically, the klansmen were supported by the Democrat party since Reconstruction. The NAACP must have forgotten that the President of the US is half -black and the black chief law enforcement officer in the country is allowing a racist hate group to threaten whites at the polls. The only institutionalized racism left in America is affirmative action - in "favor" of blacks.

The NAACP isn't taken seriously anymore and I'm surprised that Romney felt compelled to speak to them. Not even Obama wants to talk to them.

The radicals will support Romeny despite hating him for being so moderate. For them, he is the lesser of two evils. He was the guy who made it through the primaries without being exposed as too crazy or inept to challenge Obama. So the radicals will go to the polls this year and cover their noses while they vote for "their candidate." And can you imagine if by some miracle he wins? He'll be a lame duck from Day 1, being blocked by both Democrats and radical Republicans...heh.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Superlib,

It doesn't do anything to account for the massive gap that exists between the message Romney needs to sell to the radicals in the Republican party.

Please define the radical's. Alan West? Marc Rubio? Sarah Palin? Fox News? Any member of the Tea Party? Rush Limbaugh, Bible belt, Bitter gun glingers or any person who lives in a red state? The whole general list of Liberal bogeymen?

I would hope you actually do not believe the "radicals" are not going to support Romney and are going to stay home this November. Romney after all went through the primaries and has ended up as the nominee with the full knowledge that he is really a Moderate after all. He prevailed and he doesn't have to pander to the "radicals" of the Republican party. They are quite motivated enough as it is just to see that Obama is a one termer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind, keep posting all the stats you like. It doesn't do anything to account for the massive gap that exists between the message Romney needs to sell to the radicals in the Republican party and the message he needs to sell to moderates who could vote either way. The radicals in your own party view your own candidate with disdain for even trying to placate moderate elements in the US.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Call it what you like, but he's done nothing to make a dent in the African-American vote and Republicans are losing favor with Hispanics as well. As I've said before their base is shrinking because the radicals are sinking the ship.

Superlib,

The base isn't exactly shrinking.

Conservatives continue to make up the largest segment of political views in the country, outnumbering liberals nearly two-to-one, according to a new poll Thursday.

The Gallup survey found that 40 percent of Americans consider themselves conservative; 35 percent consider themselves moderate; and 21 percent see themselves as liberal. The figures did not change from 2010.

For the third straight year, conservatives outnumbered both moderates and liberals.

Meanwhile, independents are mostly moderate (41 percent), but skew more toward conservatism (35 percent) than liberalism (20 percent).

MolenirJul. 13, 2012 - 01:51AM JST The funny thing about this is, that Romney is right. He would be much better for blacks then Obama has been. Obama has been an unmittigated disaster for just about everyone, excepting the eco-nuts. Additionally, as they make up a disproportionately poor segment of the population, they are getting hit by Obamacare as well.

There is significant racial inequality in the provision of health care in the U.S. Blacks and Hispanics are less likely than whites to get treatment for serious disease and more likely to die from the illness. Obama's universal health care network, like those in place in Canada and Europe would eliminate this basic inequality in American life.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's amazing, really. If 95% of whites voted for Romney, there would be a huge outcry, about how this proves how racist whites really are, how they can't stomach the idea of a black president. Yet 95% of blacks vote for Obama and nobody bats an eyelash

There's a very simple reason which explains your observation. Romney is a fool. The idea that 95% of any racial group would vote for him is ridiculous. Obama is not a fool. Therefore huge numbers of any racial group will vote for him.

If America had a half-decent education system, I suspect that 95% of whites would vote Obama. But that ain't gonna happen, is it?

Ditto if the President ever got booed at the NAAWP convention. The condemnation would be swift and unrelenting.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Do you still think Obama is a "Marxist" Molenir?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Romney is playing his role from the Faux Sincerity (credibility) Script that Reagan so often used. But Reagan was exposed as a liar and now we know Romney has lied about some serious matters and is currently being exposed also.

The funny thing about this is, that Romney is right. He would be much better for blacks then Obama has been. Obama has been an unmittigated disaster for just about everyone, excepting the eco-nuts. For them he has done a great job. Shutting down drilling in almost all public areas, opposing fracking for specious and unreasonable reasons, and of course, opposing the oil pipeline that would bring jobs, and lower prices on oil.

Blacks though are suffering from one of the highest unemployment rates ever, thanks to Obamas economy. Additionally, as they make up a disproportionately poor segment of the population, they are getting hit by Obamacare as well.

''If you understood who I truly am in my heart [how touching], and if it were possible to fully communicate what I believe is in the real, enduring best...[blah, blah, blah]''

That coming from the liar who said he left Bain Capital in 1999 but was "sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president" until 2002.

Romney: ''Did I say 1999? Oh sorry sometimes I get my two'seys and my 9's mixed up - oh and my 9's and my 0's mixed up, oh yeah sometimes my one'seys and my two'seys too.''

''[blah, blah, blah, blah, blah] and that includes Obamacare,'' Romney said. He then stood motionless...

That motionless thing he does, he is very good at that. I guess the puppeteers hands get tired sometimes and they need to rest them.

sailwind: He's playing chess

Call it what you like, but he's done nothing to make a dent in the African-American vote and Republicans are losing favor with Hispanics as well. As I've said before their base is shrinking because the radicals are sinking the ship. The question is how far the Republicans are willing to drop. They've obviously given up on the White House and are now just trying to spend their time keeping their jobs in Congress, and they only way they're doing that is by trying to implode the system and take the Democrats with them.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Instead he is going to send Vice President Joe Biden.

"Stand up, Chuck."

''If you understood who I truly am in my heart, and if it were possible to fully communicate what I believe is in the real, enduring best interest of African-American families, you would vote for me for president,'' Romney said, to murmuring from the crowd.

So not only did Romney get booed, the crown murmured. Last I checked murmuring crowds in response to your message was not a good thing.

If the editors at AP allowed such a glaring EIF (error in fact) to slip through, the rest of this "news article" is suspect.

It's not an error in fact.

Barack Obama, the first black U.S. president

Stopped reading this piece after seeing that. If the editors at AP allowed such a glaring EIF (error in fact) to slip through, the rest of this "news article" is suspect.

Speaking of which; the only video clips the MSM is running here in the States is of Romney getting booed. However, when watching the entire address on C-SPAN I saw the standing ovation he got at the end of his speech.

RR

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

With unemployment among black Americans at the highest it has been since the Great Depression you can see why President Obama has not dared to face the NAACP since his sole post-election address to them in 2009. And it appears that even though he is the first (half-) black president in US history and it is an election year and he did find time to get in his 100 th round of golf recently Obama can't be bothered to talk to these people. Curious, isn't it?

Instead he is going to send Vice President Joe Biden. And the legacy media you can be sure will tell us the assembled NCAAP crowd clapped wildly when Joe actually told 'em, with a straight face, that another "Summer of Recovery" is at hand.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

This was a pretty bold step. David Axelrod's boot-licking minions in the gatekeeper media, instructed to call Romney etch-a-sketch candidate, have been caught off guard. In trying to imagine a parallel I think of our incredibly shrinking President Obama going to plead his case for re-election before, say, The Club For Growth. But the improbablilty of that makes me laugh - - naked emperor and all that.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

"Let's agree that it was three times instead"

Agreed.

Being booed three times in one speech is a lot IMO. Especially one of them being a full fifteen second session of hisses and boos, heh.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

OK Sailwind, let's just agree he got booed a lot.

Let's agree that it was three times instead.

G.S

That means the average tanning salon only needs to earn a profit of $3965.52 ANNUALLY to pay those costs (yes that is correct, just shy of 4 thousand annual profit). Conservative Republicans are full of deception.

That's not $3965.52 profit. That's a $3965.52 annual recurring added EXPENSE. Profit is what you make after taxes. Your 100,000 profit just got cut to 96,034.48. You now have to make 103,965.52 just to stay even. Not to mention the added costs to the owner for paperwork and compliance.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

OK Sailwind, let's just agree he got booed a lot.

Next....

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Like the "three" boos which translate as fifteen seconds of loud boos a jeers from the crowd. The damage control machine is in overload.

She was referring to the times Romney was booed during his speech.

The black audience members rained boos on Romney three times during his speech -- first when he said he'd repeal the health law, once when he said Obama's record proves he hasn't done enough on the economy and other matters, and once when he told them that he would be a president who makes the lives of African-Americans better.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/romney-says-he-expected-to-be-booed-at-naacp/story?id=16753886#.T_2_lvXcC3c

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Romney is being dishonest, the CBO is not reporting that "Obamacare" is bankrupting America. Just like the dishonesty of the IRS spending all this capital to process the new tanning salon laws concerning the 10% tax. It was stated that it would take 81 IRS workers on that alone. What was not told was that there are 25,000 tanning salons (according to the same article) taxed at 10% to pay that $11.5 million cost. That means the average tanning salon only needs to earn a profit of $3965.52 ANNUALLY to pay those costs (yes that is correct, just shy of 4 thousand annual profit). Conservative Republicans are full of deception. However both the website http://dermatology.jwatch.org/cgi/content/full/2002/731/1 (way back in 2002) and the website http://www.ama-assn.org/amednews/2011/03/21/hlsa0321.htm (in March) state there are 50,000 tanning salons. And I don't know about you but I know for a fact that many of these salons make an $100,000. profit easily in a year. But if the 50,000 tanning salons only made an average of $70,000 per annum they would pay THE ENTIRE COST $359,000,000. that the referenced article cited the IRS would have to pay for ALL the costs of the IRS would be incurring as per the article. Wow, what a difference a few FACTS make when looking for the TRUTH. Again, the Conservative Republicans, of which Romney wants to be chief, are deceivers. They are antipodal bunch who argue all the time but lack the integrity to use the truth. So, maybe the tanning salons across America don't average 70 grand, don't get your panties in a bunch, it was just an example. But it is a far more realistic example than throwing out "81 workers" and "an $11.5 million cost" which was previously cited on JT by a conservative poster. Sorry but that is well paid for. It is not a debit to the U.S. but it brings in revenue.

So, you want to get your facts from Romney?

Pausing as some in the crowd heckled, he added, 'You take a look!'

We are taking a look at your lying ass. You said you quit Bain Capital in 1999 but you really were the firm`s "sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president" in 2002. People like Romney think the common working man like many in th NAACP's membership are just dumb sheep who follow Obama because he is black. But many hard working members can read the recently released SEC filings for Romney and realize he is a BOLD FACED LIAR. It is just like his right wing conservative, fundamentalist supporters who are willing to become traitors to their own stated beliefs to support a Mormon. Many of these fundamentalists have repetitively stated that the Morman church is anti-christian. I know for a fact that EVERY evangelical christian church denies the Mormans are actually christian. So, they HATE a christian, Obama, because he wants to be fair to gays but they are willing to put the epidomy of anti-christian theology which is contrary to the very foundation of their core beliefs to defeat "Obamacare" and the evil Democratic empire.

Pontius Pilate asked the [Republican] multitude if they wanted Obama and "Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas [Romney]." He [Pontius Pilate] was afraid to offend the ... [Republicans]. He knew they were an uneasy, factious, and seditious people; and he was afraid to irritate them. He asked again and they said "Give us Barabbas! [Romney]."

"scattered clapping" is the reality, thunderous was only in her mind. Like the "three" boos which translate as fifteen seconds of loud boos a jeers from the crowd. The damage control machine is in overload.

Campaign adviser's, gotta love 'em.

Agreed they are good for quote to be taken completely out of context to spin the story.

"At other points, Romney earned scattered clapping for his promises to create jobs and improve education. His campaign described it as “thunderous applause.” "

Doesn't have the same ring as:

"At other points, Romney earned scattered clapping for his promises to create jobs and improve education. His campaign described it as “more applause than there were boos.” "

Which would have been totally objective and factual as it was her real actual last words on the matter.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Campaign adviser's, gotta love 'em.

"Tara Wall described Romney's reception as favorable, saying, "I'll take three boos out of thunderous applause over and over again." "

Either Tara wasn't listening to the crowds fifteen seconds of booing an jeering, or she has a hearing impediment.

"At other points, Romney earned scattered clapping for his promises to create jobs and improve education. His campaign described it as “thunderous applause.” "

And FOX reported God himself was heard clapping.

The Media gotta love it.

Tara Wall, a fixture on cable news programs who now leads Romney's outreach to African American voters, seemed satisfied with the crowd's response.

"Three boos out of thunderous applause over and over again, I'll take that," Wall said.

Pressed by reporters to single out that moment of "thunderous applause," Wall corrected herself.

"Okay, applause in general. I think there was a lot more, as I've said a few times, a lot more applause than there were boos. I will take the fact that there was acceptance overall with his speech," Wall said.

With the vote going to be so close I'm concerned about the possible corruption and fraud that may take place come election day. Democracy, well it was a good idea while it lasted.

It's too bad Saturday Night Live is done for the season, because Romney just wrote them a great skit to perform.

They will find, though, that trying to unravel the package will cause it to collapse in its entirety; they'll also likely run into massive opposition from the fringe right for even trying to do anything.

Except when it's a bi-partisan effort that even President Obama praises as such when repealing the ACA rotten provisions one step at a time.

President Barack Obama signed a bill repealing a tax-compliance mandate in last year’s health- care law, giving a victory to business groups that led a campaign against the requirement.

The repealed provision, under which companies would have had to report more transactions to the Internal Revenue Service, was included in the law as a revenue-raising measure. It was to have taken effect in 2012.

“Small business owners are the engine of our economy and because Democrats and Republicans worked together, we can ensure they spend their time and resources creating jobs and growing their business, not filling out more paperwork,” Obama said today in a statement released by the White House.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-04-14/obama-signs-law-repealing-business-tax-reporting-mandate-1-.html

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Romney knows how unpopular ObamaCare is with most of the public and he knows that the media would go nuts if he got booed by the NAACP for criticizing it, and so he did it.

He's betting big on this. Americans are now equally divided over the ACA; they are no longer "heavily opposed." By November, a slight majority may support it.

Furthermore, the GOP is coming under pressure to provide details on the "replace" portion of their mantra, for certain aspects of the ACA are heavily popular. They will find, though, that trying to unravel the package will cause it to collapse in its entirety; they'll also likely run into massive opposition from the fringe right for even trying to do anything.

At the same time, the hospital industry - which has major clout - is quietly but urgently pushing for state governors to get on board. The reason is that medicare payments to hospitals will drop under the ACA; this should be offset by being relieved of the requirement to treat pro bono the uninsured, but won't be if Perry and his ilk don't get their act together. Hospitals would then be in the worst of both worlds: receiving lower payment yet still saddled with providing free care.

Ultimately, though, this is simply another example of Romney's strategy: to attack Obama on all fronts, whether deserved or not, and to avoid to the greatest degree possible laying out the specifics of what he would do in turn. This, I think, will alienate many independents. It is a big gamble.

Romney makes Bush look great in retrospect! Condi would definatley turn this joker down.

Yeah, these people support Obamacare because they do not understand the consequences of the program. They fail to realize that from 2014 they won't be about to waltz into a doctor's office or hospital and demand care without proof of insurance. The only people who will be exempt from purchasing insurance will be people who are incarcerated, active duty military and certain religious sects like the Amish; everyone else who earns over $23K a year will be required to purchase health insurance -- out of pocket. Some aspects of the current law should stay, like children being about to stay on their parents plan until 26 and not being refused insurance due to pre-existing conditions. The fact is, there is no free lunch everyone needs to have skin in the game, like here in Japan where your health insurance is deducted right out of your salary -- on exceptions...

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Why would he talk about stopping Obamacare to a group of people who support it?

He's playing chess, the excerpt is from a Conservative website but its dead on how the Media works and how he's countering it.

The excerpt:

It’s catnip for the media. An event that’s guaranteed to end with a black audience criticizing the Republican nominee for president is as good as it gets if you’re among the 98 percent or whatever of reporters who are liberal.

Romney knows how unpopular ObamaCare is with most of the public and he knows that the media would go nuts if he got booed by the NAACP for criticizing it, and so he did it. And now every newscast in the country tonight will have footage of him talking about how bad the boondoggler-in-chief’s big health-care program is. The press gets what it wants and Romney gets what he wants.

battleground states such as North Carolina and Virginia, which have huge numbers of blacks,

Use of the word "huge" is typical AP-speak aimed at agitating the reader. An objective journalist would have written, "... which have significant black minorities." According to CensusScope, blacks account for 21.54% of the total population in North Carolina and 19.55% in Virginia. In terms of ratio of blacks to the total, these two states rank 8th and 9th respectively, behind Washington DC, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland and Alabama. Their numbers are considerably less than in New York (12th place) with 2,986,242 and California (27th place), which has 2,219,190. Of course census figures are not too reliable since race is not that easy to define.
