even if Trump becomes president, the republicans can easily stymie him buy blocking everything he puts up in congress - the same as they have done to Obama for the last 8 years....

R want to be candidate again?

Panicked Republican leaders say they still have options for preventing Trump from winning the nomination, just not many good ones.

It is impossible to understand what the "leaders" are panicked about. Trump is simply revealing the racism the GOP ShiaTea has worked so hard to create and justify.

If the GOP ShiaTea wished to reject Trump they easily could.

The RNC, instead of sponsoring Trump's racist appeal on their "debates" they have the power to reject him for the podium at their events.

The RNC should have the billionaire promote his message of hate on his own dime instead of under the sponsorship of the Republican Party. But they won't because Trump is promoting the same goals the GOP has driven for three decades.

Where's their beef?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

The GOP will probably split between the Trump supporting white trash faction and the GOP elites. The war has started.

"The GOP will probably split between the Trump supporting white trash faction and the GOP elites." - comments

The GOP essentially then doesn't exist. Either a Republican is sitting at home happily enjoying Trump promote racism in his or her name, or demanding the RNC reject Trump from using RNC funds to promote racism. That's it. End of.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Those same elites are in the Democratic Party also. The Clintons themselves for one. White trash is a racist statement. Imagine that, comming from a democrat. Hipocracy is alive and well in that party.

-13 ( +5 / -18 )

"Romney said a Trump nomination at the party’s convention in July would enable Democrat Hillary Clinton to win the presidency."

Oh, but a Cruz or a Rubio nomination would prevent a Hillary Clinton victory, eh, Mitt?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The subject of concern to Americans should be: 'Why is the RNC allowing Trump a free ride to promote racism as a national policy?'

6 ( +9 / -3 )

It's a civil war amongst US establishment factions: the GOP's v. Trump's v. Clinton's, with others to be revealed soon. The winners so far are the marketing agencies and media outlets who've seen their profits increase because of the extra attention this iteration of the US election circus has provided. Trump, by appealing to a broader base ("I love the poorly educated") and the angriest portions of violent US society, including war hawks and chicken hawks plus anti-immigration and 'come and take it' heehawdists, seems to be out in front. Brand Trump, with him as its mascot (J. Oliver), is being marketed using US televangelist techniques. 'Keep fear alive' and 'make America great again' (you must be born again?) sells to huge numbers of his fellow countrymen, for whom, curiously, he's always shown nothing but disdain. He must have studied PT Barnum (and Goebbels).

Mark, I admire you for coming here and posting so soon after the article was published. Most GOP members are waiting to get their talking points from the bubble which hasn't arrived yet. Give it a few hours.

So what are your thoughts about the current GOP situation? Who are you supporting?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Well, I will vote republican in November simply due to Hillary is not for me. You ask who, the one I supported dropped out. The current 3, were not my top 3. Oh, I am an independent.

In that bubble of mine I see Hillary possibly facing charges. Has your bubble published a staffer under madam Hillary was granted immunity? I noticed that liberal MSM bubble limits the facts that hurt the Democratic Party among other agendas.

Romney calls Trump phony, fraud; urges Republicans to shun him

It is ironic that the man that has been shunned by millions of Republicans is asking Republicans to shun Trump. Cheer up Romney, I doubt Trump will do any worse in this presidential election than you did in the last two.

White trash is a racist statement. Imagine that, comming from a democrat. Hipocracy is alive and well in that party.

Democrats have always been racists and remain just as racist now as they were in the 1960's. Only one party in American still promotes racial division as a matter of public policy and that is the Democrats. They are the only party that does not believe that the government should treat all citizens the same regardless of race. Democrats are constantly promoting government programs that are designed to provide government favoritism based on racial classification. The Dems have replaced the heavy handed Jim Crowe laws of the past with a myriad of racist government rules and regulations aimed only towards hobbling some in favor of others.

Panicked Republican leaders say they still have options for preventing Trump from winning the nomination, just not many good ones.

At least Hillary's email case is going to a Grand Jury in the near future so Democrats hopefully won't have the same dilemma

A party in disarray, because leaders are confused and weak. Now people are confused. Nevertheless, implications for Asia are that both Democrat or Republican nominee will be concentrating on "Making America Great", and easy way is targeting trade surplus countries like Japan and China as unfair trade partners. Expect strong political pressure in 2016 and 2017 for Yen and Yuan to be strong. This election outcome will be tough on Asia, generally.

the republicans can easily stymie him buy blocking everything he puts up in congress - the same as they have done to Obama for the last 8 years....

Trump is not Obama.

To quote Barack Obama in January 2009, when he addressed the republican minority after his inauguration: "Elections have consequences". But Obama squandered his majorities in both houses of congress, and the republicans never forgot or forgave Obama for those ill-spoken words. They have forced him to eat those words again and again.

Reagan entered office with a minority in both houses of congress, both of which wanted to stymie him, but it was congress itself which was stymied; Reagan accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish, without having to resort to executive orders. For bette or worse, people, including congressmen and senators, follow alpha types. Trump is a typical alpha male, Obama is not. What is bad for Obama is that he tries to pretend that he is an alpha male, and this makes him even less respected by his peers than he would otherwise be.

Clinton was also not an alpha male, but he never pretended to be one. He had no problem working with an opposition congress. In his first term, he was hated by republicans every much as Obama is. But that didn't bother him, he expected it. He got a lot done during his administration, once again, without having to resort to making executive orders.

Take a look at the famous photo of the situation room the night that Bin Laden was killed, and the people in the photo. Take a look at where Obama is in the photo, his posture, and expression, and the expressions of the others in the room. Anyone who saw the photo not knowing who Obama was would first guess that he was an aid or assistant, and certainly not the president. The inner-something which makes a leader simply does not exist in Obama.

Trump is a strong alpha type, the kind people follow and obey, even if they don't like him. Hillary is an alpha female (and was the real balls behind Bill Clinton's administration). And so is Romney. But I think Romney's message is not going to harm Trump in the least. For those who like Trump, it will make them like him even more. Romney is an establishment republican, and the more the establishment pushes at Trump, the more attractive he is to those who see Washington as out-of-touch with normal Americans.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Typical Romney half-measure. If the GOP does not forcefully state that Trump has no place in their party, no matter the results of the primaries and no matter what the consequences in the general election, and if they do not do so immediately, they own him. Romney should have definitely thrown down a gauntlet by setting up a mechanism to organize an inter-party organization for those who will never vote for Trump and to develop and publicize options, but that was too much for him.

As it is, nothing has changed. The establishment will continue with their ineffective grumbling while Trump continues to inch ahead in the delegate count, and when the now-inevitable brokered convention arrives, it will be too late.

sangetsu03,

You think Reagan was an alpha male type... lol. He was a puppet. So was Bush, another Republican who thought of himself as an alpha male. The Republican party is full of guys like them.

To his credit, Trump is the most alpha-like. Fortunately, most people with a brain know that a tough-guy act means nothing without good ideas.

Take a look at the famous photo of the situation room the night that Bin Laden was killed, and the people in the photo.

That's a lot of assumptions based on a single candid photo. I guess you look like you're ready to kick ass in every one of yours?

The inner-something which makes a leader simply does not exist in Obama.

He's just too smart for you. People on your side tend to have an aversion to intellectuals, college education, science, math, etc.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

It's not 1968, Mitt... and you're not Elvis. Let go - it's been over for you for quite awhile.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Looks like the Taliban are resorting to guerrilla warfare tactics to destroy the unholy Trump.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yeah, but that ain't gonna happen.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

They are all phony. Tony Dafoni would make it bearable

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen the word "shun" in the news... why it reminds of the merry olde days of yore, where they'll take it upon themselves to shun Trump and lead him to the rails, where he shall be tarred and feathered and rode out upon the wastelands to perceive various maladies that only my spectacular tincture of rattlesnake oil can cure!

Shun him! Shun him lots! He'll feel so shunned!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Some have made much of how Trump has spent none of his own money to bring his message of hate.

Had the Republicans condemned his racist appeal from day one when Trump called Mexicans rapists, Trump would have been forced to actually spend his own money to bring his prejudice to public judgement.

As it is the RNC is sponsoring Trump's racists to shame all Americans.

Next time Trump wants to insult Veterans, Women, Muslims, Mexicans and POWs, the Republicans should have the good sense to make Trump pay for that privilege out of his own funds and those of Rupert Murdock's FOXNews.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

it's hard to believe that too many GOP voters care what Romney has to say about anything. Other than,, of course, Mitt "establishment as it gets" Romney going at Trump is more likely to rally the Donald's "poke 'em in the eye" supporters than his opponents.

Anyways, here's a new one for the GOP: Suicide by Trump.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I deluded myself for a long time that American voters' innate decency and common sense would immunize them from this kind of demagoguery. If Romney's speech serves as a wake-up call, then all the better. (He may even go down in history for it.) Loyalty to the nation surely counts for more than loyalty to the party. When the US faced a constitutional crisis in 1974 over Nixon's role in Watergate, it was Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater (who was also a general in the Air National Guard) who convinced him that the healing process could not begin unless Nixon resigned. Of course while all this goes on, we may rely on FOX News to keep throwing more gasoline on the conflagration.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Poor decision by the Repubs. By getting one of the most robotic, manufactured Repub candidates of all time to publicly call Trump a fraud, etc. is an implicit snide at the people who support Trump and antagonistic, which Trump supporters revel in. The fact they think that Repubs need to be told what to do by established elite cronies is incredibly insulting. I don't think the Dems could have hoped for a bigger gift

3 ( +3 / -0 )

"Trump, you are not supposed to say those things in public, you idiot!"

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I believe Romney,McCain, and others at republic party attack Trump because of jealousy. He did what they failed to do before, moreover do they really believe other front runners can defeat Hillary?!!if yes, then its not more than Hallucinations. What they try to do to stop Trump, will be best favor for Hillary .

1 ( +2 / -1 )

FINE,but do you think whats going on in Republic party is gonna help before Americans,or will push voters more to Hillary?Unfortunately neither Rubio nor Cruz can stand up to Hillary. No matter what values Trump represent,as you see voters do not care, they lost trust in all politicians, they believe Trump is the real change option, thats why they vote him.I know the candidate is selected by the party, but same time people vote, not party.I can ensure neither Rubio nor Cruz can defeat Hillary, its a pity but its also a fact. What is the alternative?this is the question.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Republicans were so busy trying to make the President/Democrats not succeed, that they destroyed their own party in the process and now have to work with a lunatic!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I dont wish to see Hillary in the oval office,i mainly prefer Sanders, but if not, then let it be Trump,i dont think he is racist,he may not say his words in a smart way,but most of what he says make sense. He is not VULGAR as some may show or call him,he is honest, not double face.People are not stupid to vote him widely in such away. They dont care about how he says, but what he says. Why do all assume Hillary will win him easily? No one on all levels-including me-took him seriously, nor ever expect him to succeed so widely up till now.Who knows?Never say never.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Hmm. It appears that Rubio, Cruz, and Kasich all say they will support Trump if he is Republican nominee for president. So much for the united front I'd suggested above. Well, GOPers, looks like Trump it is - and at least four years of Hillary as president. You sleep in the bed you've made.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The problem with Trump is that he is all say and no substance. He says that he'll do this and that, but offers no real policy. He is also a racist who wants to get rid of Muslims, keep out Latinos, and likes making idiotic 'broken English' comments to mock Asians.

Yet, I have to admit that Trump is very smart in realizing that being controversial can make you more popular. He is simply being like a false prophet or televangelist who screams and shouts against the world to make his blind sheep follow him.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

hahaha... poor Romney! All Trump need do against this man is keep pointing out as he already has been; history has not yet decided what is in store for Trump, although record numbers are coming out to support him, whereas the books on Romney are already closed, and he was a massive failure. The only think he's doing here is asking people to reopen those books and add increasing footnotes to said failure.

bass4funk: "Yeah, but that ain't gonna happen."

You said the same thing about Trump getting as far as he has a year ago, then a couple of weeks later, then a couple of weeks after that, then later still. Now you have suddenly embraced the lunacy. Sorry, bud, but if it comes down to Clinton vs. Trump, it's landslide Clinton. Heaps of Republicans have admitted already they would vote for Clinton if Trump won. Only complete maniacs would still vote for Trump while admitting they don't like that guy, etc.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I don't have that big of a problem with Trump, especially since he is a proponent of a health insurance mandate so "people don't die on the streets" or something to that effect as he said on CNN's AC and that's what the USA needs the most. Yes, Trump will accelerate the most important component of ObamaCare, which is the mandate. I'm fine with Trump in that regard.

But to any Trump lovers here- would you invest in any of his businesses? Or go to his Trump University? Would you trust him with your own hard-earned money? Because you would sure trust him at the helm of the most powerful country on Earth. Yes? Then put your money in his name, in his businesses, his investments, etc. Don't just say you like him- put your money on Trump literally.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

On super Tuesday, 2.5 million more Republicans than Democrats turned out to vote.

Some months ago, I wrote that there was no way Trump would win the presidency. Now, I'm not so sure. It doesn't look good.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Flash polls after the debate, a sizable Republican voters won't be voting if Trump becomes the Republican candidate, while some even voting for a Democrat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump vs Clinton?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump vs Clinton vs Bloomberg, lol.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Some have made much of how Trump has spent none of his own money to bring his message of hate.

What about the Democrats message of hate and reverse racism, why do you not address that?

Had the Republicans condemned his racist appeal from day one when Trump called Mexicans rapists, Trump would have been forced to actually spend his own money to bring his prejudice to public judgement.

I guess the same would have happened to Obama after he basically labeled that Conservative Christians cling to their guns and religions, so he was stereotyping, generalizing and being racist.

As it is the RNC is sponsoring Trump's racists to shame all Americans.

Can your prove that he is a racist?

Next time Trump wants to insult Veterans, Women, Muslims, Mexicans and POWs, the Republicans should have the good sense to make Trump pay for that privilege out of his own funds and those of Rupert Murdock's FOXNews.

Jeez, what in blazes are you talking about now? ROFL

I deluded myself for a long time that American voters' innate decency and common sense would immunize them from this kind of demagoguery.

That depends on what your personal perspective view of what decency is.

If Romney's speech serves as a wake-up call, then all the better. (He may even go down in history for it.) Loyalty to the nation surely counts for more than loyalty to the party.

Romney is more than a joke, he looks like a sore loser ranting like that about Trump, now he has all the energy and fire when he should have had all that umpf when he was running against Obama! He should have won that debate, had him on the second and then withered away and now with vigor he has the nerve to show his face and THINKS that Trump supporters will listen to him. This guy is unbelievable, not to mention a joke!

When the US faced a constitutional crisis in 1974 over Nixon's role in Watergate, it was Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater (who was also a general in the Air National Guard) who convinced him that the healing process could not begin unless Nixon resigned.

True.

So why doesn't Bill tell his wife to turn herself over to the FBI? Do the right thing.

Of course while all this goes on, we may rely on FOX News to keep throwing more gasoline on the conflagration.

How so? They would have to be in the tank for Trump and none of the pundits openly said who they would vote for.

You said the same thing about Trump getting as far as he has a year ago, then a couple of weeks later, then a couple of weeks after that, then later still. Now you have suddenly embraced the lunacy.

What a bunch of BS!! I NEVER said, he was my guy. What is it with you liberals and outsiders that you don't get? Trump was never my choice, but to NOT take him seriously and to not respect the wishes of the American people in their decision to elect a leader THEY feel will work on their behalf, you have to take that seriously and it doesn't matter one fig what outsiders, Europeans, the GOP, the Evangelicals and especially Democrats and liberals think. Trump tapped into something so strong in the American mind that even Chris Matthews can't deny it. Trump inspires the people and you or anyone else don't need to approve, the American people can make up their own decisions and the more people try to persuade them they are wrong, the more they will vote for him, Trump has tapped into the anger of people that feel for far too long Washington has overlooked them and he has shaken up the establishment, turned the GOP on its head and is scaring the Democratic base and good on him for doing that.

Sorry, bud, but if it comes down to Clinton vs. Trump, it's landslide Clinton.

You know, I used to think that, but now, from the looks of it and Trump even siphoning off 20% of Democrats, I'm not so sure, I think if Cruz or Rubio are the nominees they will be easy to beat, but Trump, not sure. He is definitely cleaning house.

Heaps of Republicans have admitted already they would vote for Clinton if Trump won.

Yeah, the establishment Conservatives, they might. But Trump is also doing well with liberal unionists, more and more of them are siding with Trump and his willing to seal off the border. So it looks like a bit of a washout, not to mention, there are thousands of people that haven't voted in over 20 years and first time voters. so the GOP can do what it likes, but the time for controlled politics is over.

Only complete maniacs would still vote for Trump while admitting they don't like that guy, etc.

If that means choosing a maniac like Trump over a habitual liar and criminal like Clinton, the maniac wins by far and a very easy choice to make.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

You know, I used to think that, but now, from the looks of it and Trump even siphoning off 20% of Democrats, I'm not so sure, I think if Cruz or Rubio are the nominees they will be easy to beat, but Trump, not sure. He is definitely cleaning house.

Well said. Its funny how the (D) mocked him right from the start. But now, after steamrolling Super Tuesday, look for more & more haters in these threads bashing us "white trash."

The GOP will probably split between the Trump supporting white trash faction and the GOP elites. The war has started.

Posters who post this kind of garbage, are the same guys who actually go to the toilet (to urinate) instead of aiming for the drain when taking a shower. Or the kind who are afraid to throw the 1st punch in a "real" confrontation.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

If Romney,or other jealous heavyweight republicans try to stop Trump,by pushing Romney or others as an alternative, this will not only be a stupid step, but it will be a big favor for Trump, voters will show more support for him than ever as a challenging reaction. Before thinking of stopping Trump, they should be honest and answer the question,is Rubio or Cruz really capable to defeat Hillary?Frankly speaking Hillary can swallow them both with a glass of red wine before having dinner.
