although for some odd reason you left out the members of the Communist Party of China

I left off many, many so-called leaders. But to say that the American government was beyond reproach would be uninformed.

I thought you came off a smart and even-handed guy there for a second.

Thats the problem - you only thought for a second. Take your time, think deeper and resist the urge to throw out judgement without contemplation.

if/when Romney is ever given any REAL political clout he'll stand in front of the Chinese president and bend over to grab his ankles faster than he could say 'money'

Like Obama grabbed his ankles. I keep seeing "Obamney" logos on the net...

The article is about Romneys contention that this visit by China's Vice Premier is “empty pomp and ceremony”. President Obama has rolled out the red carpet and treated him as an actual Head of State. Romney has a point, a point so important that article actually used it in the headline.

True, China childishly took on capitalism, made it better and our pride with Obama gave em an 18 gun salute.

They don't have capitalism, they have socialism. When will people get the difference???

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He already does. Remember Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz...? All criminals along with buddy Tony Blair.

True all of those disgusting leaders belong to the ashtray of history...although for some odd reason you left out the members of the Communist Party of China. A shame though really, I thought you came off a smart and even-handed guy there for a second.

"his ascent as China's leader"

Is he going to be elected by the Chinese people? No?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

So much misplaced pride......completely unable to deal with the notion that other countries and peoples may actually be better than America and Americans in certain ways.

Incredibly childish.

Back on topic please.

"And why would he work for a criminal organization all of whose leaders would be tried for war crimes at the Hague?

He already does. Remember Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz...? All criminals along with buddy Tony Blair."

Blair? What does Anthony Blair have to do with Romney? Wolfowitz - Romney. Where is the connection ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Basically, what Romney is saying is that he thinks the whole thing was a failure because President Obama didn't pick a fight.

Christ are Mitt's handlers stupid. Does ANYTHING that makes sense EVER come out of his mouth?

What a moroon.

Sorry, "Sailwind" not Tailwind. :-)

Tailwind - "As far as this pomp and ceremony thing. Anybody actually realize this is the Chinese Vice Premier that's getting the full bells and whistles 18 gun salute treatment from the Obama administration and not the actual Chinese Head of State? Boy, talk about bending over for the Chinese."

What is it with you American males?

So much misplaced pride......completely unable to deal with the notion that other countries and peoples may actually be better than America and Americans in certain ways.

Romney is right.

Communist China is a nasty, brutish, murderous dictatorship. It's humiliating to see a president kowtowing to them just so he can sell American debt, and finance his unsustainable government programmes. The Chinese are also known to be world leaders in pollution, theft of intellectual property, etc. Not nice people to deal with.

As for abortion, the law is settled and should remain that way. It's not a simple issue of rights, though. Anyone who is a parent can tell you that they have never used the word "fetus" to describe what the woman was carrying. "Honey, the fetus moved!" "Wow, you can see the fetus clearly on the ultrasound" "the fetus is really kicking today"

..... sorry, it just doesn't happen.

You're in Obama overload again old bud. The topic is Romney...

In other news, shares in screen-wipes and anti-phsycotic drugs are UP.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Red China lurvs Obama. No president in US history has slapped our Canadian allies in the face the way Obama has. Keystone pipeline? Hundreds of thousands of jobs for Americans. Take your stinking oil and go sell it to the Chinese.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It'd be hard NOT to sympathize with a Taliban communist conservative: such internal conflicts would breed confusion begging for sympathy.

Deplore - "I believe that China presents a substantial threat to the interests of the United States."

You can't be serious.

Actually he can be; cue the cyberattacks by China on Western countries/countries in East Asia executed under the authority of the CCP.

"Can a country which sends remote controlled aircraft to murder civilians in other countries be a trusted partner?"

Actually yes, if the people that that country kills civilians that turn out to be terrorists bent on destroying the entirety of humanity.

On another note: your (red light street cornering) for the Communist Party of China would make the activities of a polygamist come off as virginity.

“A nation that represses its own people cannot ultimately be a trusted partner in an international system based on economic and political freedom,” Romney said"

And Romney and his fellow GOP presidential candidate bedpals don't also want to repress citizens' rights by banning abortion??

Banning abortion represses women's rights in the name of God none of them can even prove exists.

Way to go...

Actually, Romney's position is much more ambiguous than simply a categorical ban when it comes to abortion. e.g. abortion when it comes to cases of rape. So that's strike one.

Not quite sure how you do the ethical arithmetics of equating "banning abortion" to the level of moral criminality of keeping someone locked up in a gulag or under house arrest for simple exercises (painting pictures) of political expression....although I'm sure if you brought back Hitler from his dead coffin he might be able to answer that one for ya. Strike two.

Complete non-sequitur; I'm guessing the part where you're supposed to actually address what Romney's actually said about the criminal Communist Chinese Party flew right across your head. But then again, I'm not surprised as you're probably paid anyway to peddle this garbage. Strike three.

That's strike three. Back to the dugout now as your 15 seconds of fame are now over.

Sailwind - "Sushi, this speaks for itself:

U.S. Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton meets Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in Beijing.U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton broached the issue of human rights with Chinese leaders on Saturday, but emphasized that the global financial slump and other international crises were more pressing and immediate priorities."

It does. Thanks for backing up my point :-)

That she broached the issue? Good for her for giving them an earful on their awful human rights record. Hopefully next time she won't even have to go with that unpleasant part of actually saying something for about thirty seconds as she moves on to more pressing and immediate priorities and just sends them a form letter of "concern to read in private.

As far as this pomp and ceremony thing. Anybody actually realize this is the Chinese Vice Premier that's getting the full bells and whistles 18 gun salute treatment from the Obama administration and not the actual Chinese Head of State? Boy, talk about bending over for the Chinese.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

What kind of pomp would Romney prefer?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"Romney proves to be full of nothing but pomp and bombast himself. China OWNS a good part of the US, and if/when Romney is ever given any REAL political clout he'll stand in front of the Chinese president and bend over to grab his ankles faster than he could say 'money'.

Once again, a complete moron who is utterly incapable of leading the nation."

Smith, smithie calm down there. China owns a part of the US, but it's not as if it suddenly implies (with your cap-locks) that that country now owns the entirety of that country, not when China barely holds more debt of the US than either japan or the UK. It would be hilarious though if Romney would bend over and show his ***cheeks to the Chinese president on the world stage though: ever seen the movie Braveheart?

Also, he's not leading the nation yet as he hasn't been elected president yet. A complete moron indeed.

"Heh, it's not like Romney will ever be in a position to work with the Chinese leadershp or anyhing..."

Why in the hell does that matter? And why would he work for a criminal organization all of whose leaders would be tried for war crimes at the Hague?

Absolutely amazing how some of these GOP folks are completely blind to their own hypocrisy and double standards.

Couldnt agree more.

related to China’s one-child policy

Or America's one-wife policy! Ok I jest, I jest...

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Romney's just indulging in fantasy.

There's no way he's going to win. The economy's on an uptick, jobs are being created every month (13 straight months now?), and conservative primary voter turnout is abysmal.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Why is Romney so intent on picking a fight with the PRC?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Deplore - "I believe that China presents a substantial threat to the interests of the United States."

You can't be serious.

The key reason the American economy keeps rolling is because of the trade America does with China.

Without that trade and the ongoing purchases of U.S. govt. debt by the Chinese govt., the U.S. economy would tank overnight.

No, the greatest threat to America at present is the buying habits of American consumers - the folks who in their millions suck up all the Chinese-made products at Walmarts and other stores around the nation (why not be patriotic and buy U.S.-made??).

Those same folks are instrumental in creating the huge trade imbalance between the two countries, and who continue to make America more and more indebted to China, along with the associated ever-rising multi-billion dollar debt servicing costs.

To see the greatest threat to America, just go to the mall.

Rubbish. Hillary Clinton has raised human rights many times with the Chinese.

I thought that Reagan was the gold standard of the GOP. Who restarted US relations with China?

It was Nixon, and it was to counterbalance the Soviet Union as the relations between the two Communist nations went bad and the U.S saw a chance to put more pressure on the Soviets, cold war global politics at that time in history.

As for the article that cherry picked his quotes and left out what he actually said for any sort of context.

Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney mocked this week’s Washington visit by China’s likely future leader as “empty pomp and ceremony” and said a country that represses its people cannot be a trusted partner.

On "pomp and circumstance"

We must apply these strengths in our policy toward China to make its path to regional hegemony far more costly than the alternative path of becoming a responsible partner in the international system.

Barack Obama is moving in precisely the wrong direction. The shining accomplishment of the meetings in Washington this week with Xi Jinping—China's vice president and likely future leader—was empty pomp and ceremony.

President Obama came into office as a near supplicant to Beijing, almost begging it to continue buying American debt so as to finance his profligate spending here at home. His administration demurred from raising issues of human rights for fear it would compromise agreement on the global economic crisis or even "the global climate-change crisis." Such weakness has only encouraged Chinese assertiveness and made our allies question our staying power in East Asia.

On a country that represses its people cannot be a trusted partner.

A nation that represses its own people cannot ultimately be a trusted partner in an international system based on economic and political freedom. While it is obvious that any lasting democratic reform in China cannot be imposed from the outside, it is equally obvious that the Chinese people currently do not yet enjoy the requisite civil and political rights to turn internal dissent into effective reform.

Also...

I believe that China presents a substantial threat to the interests of the United States. I believe that Romney is a blowhard. I'm glad that he's not naive, but you keep this things to yourself. Take some advice from Machiavelli for goodness sakes.
-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Romney seems piqued. He wouldn't do anything differently from Obama; he'd just apparently do it in a different way. He'd have bailed out GM by offering loan guarantees; he'd focus on Asia without cutting the military; and he'd adopt the same policy towards China as Obama and his half-dozen predecessors have, but he'd act a whole lot huffier about it.

Careful there, Mitt - you're painting yourself into the cranky corner.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Crore, depends which side you're on, and how much of a hypocrite a person can cope with becoming.

For conservatives, if seems, there's simply no limit at all.

Romney would make good viewing in a "castaways reality show". This man is an insult to the American people. The very thought of him ever being in the white house is frightening.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

When Romney is president, he will forgo empty pomp and ceremony and spit on foreign dignitaries' shoes.

There's no diplomacy like no diplomacy.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Heh, it's not like Romney will ever be in a position to work with the Chinese leadershp or anyhing...

"and said a country that represses its people cannot be a trusted partner."

What kind of logic is that??
