Russia's 'interests' seem to be to re-establish the USSR, this time under under the direction of Putin, with support from Iran, North Korea and maybe China. The global establishment running the petrochemical economy and their investors must be pleased knowing fossil fuels will continue to be burned in huge quantities and the world will not be able to progress beyond the fossil era because their idol Putin will remain in power.

Come on, Vlad, be the bigger man. Hand yourself and your henchmen over to the Hague Tribunal and you can start a very long process of rehabilitating your country in the eyes of the world. Otherwise you will just heap more shame and damage on yourself and your compatriots too, to say nothing of the misery you will continue to heap on innocent civilians. Find your conscience, man.

Ukraine and the West say the strategy of knocking out power and heat deliberately intends to harm civilians, a war crime, something Moscow denies.

Russia says it's a legit target:

Lavrov said during a press conference that the targeted infrastructure is used "to pump up Ukraine with Western weapons for it to kill Russians."

"This infrastructure supports the combat capability of the Ukrainian armed forces and nationalist battalions," Lavrov said.

@wick "to pump up Ukraine with Western weapons for it to kill Russians."

And the reason Russians might be killed is because they have illegally invaded a sovereign nation and members of the invaded nation are doing what they can to protect their homes and homeland. If those invading Russians went back to Russia, Ukrainian military members would not have a reason to use weapons to kill Russian military members.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to negotiations on Ukraine but the West must recognize Russia's "new territories", the Kremlin said on Friday, a day after U.S. President Joe Biden said he was willing to talk if Putin were looking for a way to end the war.

A bad Putin joke as Russia has no "new" territories. The areas of Ukraine being illegally occupied by Russia remain Ukraine territory as recognized by the whole world. Even China will not recognize Ukraine territory as Russian.

Peskov said Russia will not pull out of Ukraine.

They will therefor have to be pushed out. There will be no peace while hostile foreign soldiers occupy Ukraine lands.

Putin told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in a phone call on Friday that the Western line on Ukraine was "destructive" and urged Berlin to rethink its approach, the Kremlin said.

Putin is a moron. It is Russia's invasion of Ukraine that is destructive. The west supports Ukraine as it defends itself and as it pushes Russian forces out of Ukraine territory.

Kyiv says it will fight until the last Russian soldier is ejected from its territory.

And the west will support Ukraine until that goal is achieved. Then it will grant membership into NATO and the EU for Ukraine.

But what guarantee does Russia have that those weapons won't be turned on Russian speaking East Ukrainian separatists?

Russia have bombed them already. Were they nazis? If they are ‘Russian’ why did Russia bomb their own?

But what guarantee does Russia have that those weapons won't be turned on Russian speaking East Ukrainian separatists?

You mean the people who the Russians have treated as cannon fodder while turning their towns and homes into a barren wasteland?

Russia don’t care.

He really seems to want to become a modern 21st Century czar. either way, Putin does not have the right to give any demands or conditions for anything. This is an illegal war and as such Russia has no right or privilege to lay down any conditions for anything, unless the Russians pull out of the Ukraine. And even that is an IF.

It's only natural that the Ukrainians would defend their homes. Their nation has been invaded without provocation. And their PM is no meek 'yes-man' like the one they installed in Kazakhstan this past winter. The Ukrainians will continue to resist, it's the only thing to do.

There is only one solution. The total defeat of Putin's Russia and the formation of a democratic Russian nation with fair elections and guaranteed human rights, rule of law and all the liberal concepts for a liberal state in place.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Putin is looking for a face saving way out. I hope he does NOT get one!

8 ( +13 / -5 )

I can bet that the US, to get out the easiest way and without compromising so much, (as it always does), will force negotiations for a quick peace and the West will recognize the new territories to Russia..

And how is the world situation, is the best that can happen..

The big winner of this story will be Vladimir Putin..

-15 ( +4 / -19 )

TokyoLiving - when do you bet this happens by?

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Yes, certainly... Putin and his fans seem to grasping at straws.

> If they do that and the (fake) Ukrainian state allows it, it will create the conditions for the residents from the east up to and probably including Kiev and the south to the border with Moldova to demand the right to vote on joining Russia or not. And in any free and fair vote, the majority will most certainly vote to join Russia.

well another day with news of UA forces, heroi are winning everywhere.

Biden may made some mistake as according to news UA forces are destroying and crushing moskals with help of Mrs.Winter so there is "no need" for some kind of negotiations as winner is clear right?this makes complete sense.

USA is not fightning to Russia and its not involved in conflict according to official news so I dont get what Joe wants to negotiate about since he is not involved?peace talk must be between UA and Russia as they are involved, since Russia is ready for talks anytime UA guys are "unsure" since they are winning on newspages of media everyday...

I am confused...

/irony off/

reality is simple-UA cant win over Russia in any case, west is tired from supporting of black hole and mafia gov by money, weapons.west going to understand that their sactions did not move Russia out of UA even one inch and simply does not work in west favour as opposite is true.in short-west is not going to win,at least not anytime soon.situation will get more serious when they will implement price cap for russian oil and gas as will do actually suicide for their economies.

only idiots repeating same mistakes over and over again.so bad victims are UA civilains,EU and west citizens.

Peace will prevail,better-earlier.Volodymyr will run for life once US will turn away from his puppet regime.Enough is enough.

Too late, but better late than never, let's talk. But first the UN has to agree to a resolution to rebuild Ukraine, bit by bit, and each and every piece of Ukraine declared as a reconstruction area will be protected by the UN. If Russia attacks it, it (and its allies) will have to face the UN.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Nope.

Good one. Russia has veto over any such decisions and if it didn't, you think anyone is going to attack Russia? Maybe Israel? Which it has been reported in the Russian media is secretly shipping arms to Ukraine. The Jews can't have their Azov Battalion "kameraden" unarmed!

Certainly correct, as Putin's ignorance has not helped him or Russia at all.

Lenin said, "Even slander should make sense."

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

Pooh-tin (thanks NY Post!), is trying to negotiate his way out of a catastrophic result that he himself created.

His economy is in long-term decline. His population has had enough. His “army” has been revealed for the Potemkin village it is (whew, that’s a relief).

He’s ill. We can only speculate about what the cause is or when he’s going to “leave the stage” but anyone with eyes can see he is not well.

In spite of all the “not yet???” Posts of his fan bois, it is the considered opinion of the experts that his “army” is running out of ordinance.

But! If only, the West “recognizes” his new territories, then all this unpleasantness can fade away.

Nope.

The Russians are leaving easy or they’re leaving the hard way. But they’re leaving. The West is going to stay the course. Our resources exceed the dwarf-midget’s.

There is a generation of Russian “leaders” that will never leave its borders due to fear of arrest.

There will be a reckoning for the war crimes Russia has committed.

And if it wrecks the Russian economy, so be it.

So nope.

You mean like in the west ? Democracy and fair elections ? Rampant drug abuse. soaring crime, attacking other countries like Afghanistan,Iraq。Syria etc.Go look at Youtube videos on how the Russians live compared to the so called western democratic countries.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

Russia is short of ammo. Russian troops phoned Ukrainian hotlines to learn how they can surrender.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Maybe Israel? Which it has been reported in the Russian media is secretly shipping arms to Ukraine.

Not much of a secret then is it if the fabulous Russian media is reporting it.

Misguided suckers like you will believe anything Putin puts between your ears.

Where in this article does it say Ukraine is winning? It seems to just be unbiased, and simply reporting facts.

This “special military operation” is going so poorly that Pooh-tin is now soiling himself literally as well as figuratively according to inside sources.

Now, he’s doing is Best Saddam Hussein and saying “Hey, guys! Let’s talk.”

Nope.

Russia is leaving Ukraine, easy or hard - their choice.

As for Mimi-me, it’s hard to know for certain but it seems like he might be “going to meet Stalin” soon. His successor will have a face-saving way to back down: throw Vlad’s corpse under the bus.

So why bother with the midget-dwarf?

Regardless of his longevity, Putie has Quadaffi-ed himself. He will NEVER be welcomed in polite company again. No more G-20. No more Davos. No more summits. No more State dinners.

Sorry Vlad, it’s all “nut cracker” (gotta say, they have a rather homo-erotic vibe to them) soldiers and state TV for you from now on.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

NO WAY PUTIN!

3 ( +8 / -5 )

He added that the search for ways to end the war was hindered by the U.S. refusal to recognize territory in Ukraine that Russia has annexed.

And that is the crux of it. Pooh-tin isn't at all willing to negotiate.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Russia has always been open to talks, and now USA is losing, its damage control. China is watching, and realizing the whole force of NATO can’t win against Russia, so they now know they have nothing to fear.

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

Bronco

Especially since 14,000 already died from from 2014 onwards while that area was Ukrainian territory.

A deliberate misrepresentation of facts is the same as a lie.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

For about 45 years, the US refused to recognize the USSR the annexation of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. And now they’re free and in NATO.

Not only is Russia not going to threaten them anymore, it’s not CAPABLE of threatening them. Its top three NATO-facing units have been functionally destroyed by an army that doesn’t even have air dominance (NATO would).

So no, we are not going to recognize Russia’s illegal occupation of Ukraine based on a lie.

Sorry, Pooh-tin.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Those Russians still don't get!

There ain't anything they can demand!

They're not in the position to demand!

Get out of Ukraine, pay reparations, appear in front of an international tribunal, maybe, but just maybe then there will be talks!

Elsewise: with and for Ukraine as long as it takes (got it??)!

Ukraine will prevail!

Why is Biden interjecting himself into the middle of this again? It never ends well.

What exactly is it that you want, apart from Ukraine's unconditional surrender? What do you want your country's legitimately elected President to do?

You seem to complain about every possible scenario and yet have no solutions yourself.
