Surely somebody in Europe saw the risk of relying on Putin for such a vital resource.

obviously not, but they sure see it now.

Europe will be weened off Russian gas & oil, other forms of energy will be fast tracked & Russia’s economy will tank.

Bronco, good comment and fully agree!

There are way too many incidents happening all over the world.

Fires, explosions, people should be more careful with what they're doing!

Keep tightening those sanctions and don’t give in an inch to this modern day Hitler.

following Russia's previous cutoff of natural gas to Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, the Netherlands and Denmark

One has to wonder about the strategic wisdom of tying a nation's economy and well-being to such a dangerous source of natural gas. Did none of the leaders in Europe stop to consider that Russia was no longer a functioning democracy and that its leader was a former KGB agent with ambitions to rebuild the Soviet empire? Surely somebody in Europe saw the risk of relying on Putin for such a vital resource.

This. All that happens is Europe is forced to adapt to something else and will never go back to Russia having this leverage again.

A German company sent Russian pumps to Canada for repairs. Canada stole them using US sanctions as their right. EU will freeze. Thanks USA. Nice friend

If you are going to study the history, stone age, etc. etc. many are not relying on these stuff and was able to move on with their lives. That means we also can but we have to compromise, living with expensive gas comfortably? or no gas but we have to train ourselves to the lifestyle of the people who once lived before on that era.

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that the reductions are “blackmail (against) both individual countries and Europe as a whole.”"

As if sanctions are NOT a political "blackmail" tool?

It's summer now, but winter's coming.

Russia again cuts natural gas exports to European countries:

With EU members working hard to make Ukraine membership a reality, Russia is retaliating by working equally hard to cut gas supply to more EU countries.

There has not been any winner, only lose-lose scenario..

its simple.

gas pipeline using machinery and that machinery needs maintenance.thanks to sanctions and Siemens "clients service" that maintenance is not possible now so for security reason/gas can explode for example/ capacity of gas delivered is reduced.this does not need any science or uni degree to understand that.

reasons are crystal clear dear Reuters, stop to spread own "ideas" here as facts again as amount of people who believes your daily carp published even here is shrinking rapidly.

this is one of effects of antirussian sanctions dear EU with "very smart leaders" on top.

worst is yet to come in winter.EU citizens are "happy".

one thing i dont understand-all EU politicians in charge want be cutted off from russian gas and oil-so this may be helpful for time to speed up this process.

so this move have to make them "happy" right?

why they are so "excited" than?

just keep going own way and impose more sanctions.

no one mind that people living costs will go very high thanks to that but yes-die poor but "proud"...irony off

Volodymyrs talk is all but pure crap.
