The solution to all of these issues surrounding the invasion is really simple. Costs less than $0.20. Just need someone to actually do it for the rest of the world. Certainly there is someone in Russia who can do it.

Good. This shuts down Russia one more bit.

The future for Russia will only degrade further and further

That's complete rubbish nonsense !

I suggest you try to looking at the whole big picture instead.

The big picture where Putin has lost 30,000 soldiers and 3000 tanks, the big picture where Putin thought this war would be done in 48 hours? The big pictures where dead Russian soldiers aren't even coming home because they're just being left to rot in Ukraine?

Something tells me that's not the big picture you wanted people looking at.

Richard Pearce - why are you carrying water for Russia and Putin? What is your angle?

Russia cutting off its own nose to spite its face. While Russia may be the main supplier of natural gas to many European countries, they are not the only source. Sure, it'll be a headache for Denmark and the other countries to find a new supplier initially but in the long term, they should be okay. Meanwhile, Russia seems hellbent on cutting itself off from the rest of the world and it's not going to bode well for them.

russia’s economy is heavily reliant on fossil fuel exports, the rest of its economy is comparatively small for the size of the country. The world has progressively recognised (with the exception of a few antediluvian types) the need to transition away from fossil fuels and poo tins actions have accelerated the realisation and as such very much cut his nose off to spite his face. With the removal of revenue from fossil fuels they will not have the economic capacity to replace the lost state revenue, all the more so as the remaining economy is undercut by progressively severe sanctions, removing both the economic resources needed to replace the massive material losses incurred in his foreign adventure (I will not comment on the appalling loss of life as russian leaders have never cared about their cannon fodder and poo tin is no different) nor the imported technological products their arms industry is reliant on.

Asakaze, russia has yet again shown its self to be an unreliable partner in cutting off the supply in breach of contract, demanding payment in a currency other than that stipulated in the contract was the originating breach of contract and as such not a justification for subsequent actions.

peeping Tom, cherry picking data to support your fallacious argument is pointless. Inflation was rising before the demented dwarf lurking in the kremlin launched his illegal war, was and is a product of a number of economic factors and is a worldwide phenomenon that has merely been exacerbated in some areas by the demented dwarfs actions.

Russia turning away customers and losing more through sanctions. It is quickly heading to a basket case economy and will have no way to support its people and fund an invasion at the same time.

Expect the Russian public to go without and for Putin to blame the world for the tough times it faces.

Russia simply needs to withdraw it's army from Ukraine territory and return control of captured territory to Ukraine for the economic pain to be removed. A wound of its own making that nobody has sympathy for.

Short term pain for Europe and the world but the long term pain has only just begun for Russia. The world will recover and replace Russian goods and resources, while Russia can not replace all the lost imports and customers, let alone get around sanctions.

The future for Russia will only degrade further and further.

China and India are buying ALL the gas and other commodities Russia produces.

This is not me "saying it"; it's a FACT.

Check it.

Western sanctions are failing spectacularly and the west shot themselves in the foot.

Declared inflation in the UK is at 9%, and in the US is even higher.

And Ukraine is getting smaller and landlocked.

They believed this wester media, armchair "specialists", and biased partisan retired generals propaganda that Ukraine could actually defeat Russia, right at the border with them.

Bye bye gas

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

PeepingTom,

And Ukraine is getting smaller and landlocked.

Try looking at the strategic picture, poo tins purblind focus on the Donbas and consequent stripping of forces from everywhere else has left opportunities for Ukrainian armed forces to counter attack, progressively clearing russian rapist forces from Kharkiv and consequently bringing the fragile supply line to Izumi within Ukrainian artillery range. At the same time counter attacks in the south are pushing in to Kherson Oblast with a distinct possibility of cutting the so called southern corridor in half leaving the isolated forces the choice of surrender or dying for poo tin!

As more and more advance, precision, longer range modern western weaponry is integrated in to the Ukrainian armed forces, it will become less and less tenable for him to hang on to the very limited gains he has managed to achieve at such heavy cost.

There's also a Chinese saying. Something along the line, Picking up a heavy stone and dropping it on one's foot.

If I go into my local Family Mart or Lawson, and pay in American dollars, do people honestly think the worker is going to accept my payment? Good grief.

"Meanwhile, Russia seems hellbent on cutting itself off from the rest of the world and it's not going to bode well for them."

Be very wary of Western propaganda!

India, China, and Africa on the main, Latin America, and Arab Nations are NOT boycotting Russian trade.

The US, the EU, Japan, and other acolytes are NOT "the World".

"Threatened sanctions proved ineffective as deterrence. Enforcement by countries in the sanctions alliance should prove highly effective with respect to goods and finance originating in their territory and conducted through their companies. However, significant sanctions busting can be anticipated both by neutral countries and countries friendly to Russia. Soon the sanctions alliance will need to decide whether to augment diplomatic protests with secondary sanctions to discourage neutral or friendly commerce with Russia. "

@purple_depressed_bacon

it'll be a headache for Denmark and the other countries to find a new supplier initially

And this magical new supplier is ..... ? Norway can't produce more gas. Algeria, USA? May be, if they can find extra amount of gas and Asian markets do not outbid Europeans. Anyway, new gas for the Europeans will be way too costly. The era of cheap energy for Europe is over.

Russia seems hellbent on cutting itself off from the rest of the world

It's amusing how a bunch of NATO / EU countries with several others like to call themselves "the world". Russia enjoys good working relations with the world - with Middle East, Latin America, Africa, almost all Asia. The whole bunch of Western bankrupts can be ignored.

@englisc aspyrgend

russia has yet again shown its self to be an unreliable partner in cutting off the supply in breach of contract, demanding payment in a currency other than that stipulated

Some European countries again shown themselves to be unreliable partners by refusing to give Russia the money for the gas it provided. Do you really expect Russia to give the gas for free, seriously?

"peeping Tom, cherry picking data to support your fallacious argument is pointless. Inflation was rising before"

If you say so.

When was last time inflation rose to a 40 year high?!

"UK inflation jumps to 40-year high of 9% as food and energy prices spiral"

I don't need to cherry pick anything; all I do is point out FACTS.

And, as stated 'ad exhaustion' , I'm not even a Russian fan.

Just imagine if I was.

Biden told Ukraine (yesterday) they will not receive long range artillery.

Guess why!

I already know why.

Also, as far as the "bigger picture", I think you need a refresher:

Have fun.

Well, well, what a surprise! What do you think, the evil Russians do not want to give away their commodities for the beautifully painted sheets of paper called Euros they are not allowed to use? They do not want to give the gas actually for free? How dare they!!

@Peter14

Russia turning away customers and losing more through sanctions. It is quickly heading to a basket case economy and will have no way to support its people and fund an invasion at the same time

Yeah, yeah. I've been hearing this talk since 2014. "Russian economy in tatters", "sanctions from hell", "we cut them off from swift and they are ruined". Some people never learn.

Yes, the EU can find another provider, likely someone who is doing everything they accuse Russia of, in about half a decade.

Russia, on the other hand, can find another buyer, but it takes about half a decade to build a pipeline from scratch. The thing is that half a decade ago construction on pipelines from Russia to China started.

And half a decade from now, the priority of the human race is going to be preventing anyone from pumping more fossil fuels to new consumers.

The EU let the US bully it into an expansionist play in Ukraine (the offensive 'deal' offered, the rejection rejected by 'regime change', the rejection of the regime change rejected by a 'civil war' against the rejection, and now the rejection of the 'civil war' being rejected by an economic war and a doubling down on the 'civil war' support) and is going to pay a heavy price for that (inflation, unemployment, dropping standard of living are each factors that lead to civil unrest. All combined at once with the blowback from the knowledge that they all are rooted in governments choosing to act against the best interests of their populations is a recipe for a continent mired in rolling revolts and suppression of revolts)
