Russia cutting off its own nose to spite its face. While Russia may be the main supplier of natural gas to many European countries, they are not the only source. Sure, it'll be a headache for Denmark and the other countries to find a new supplier initially but in the long term, they should be okay. Meanwhile, Russia seems hellbent on cutting itself off from the rest of the world and it's not going to bode well for them.

Russia simply needs to withdraw it's army from Ukraine territory and return control of captured territory to Ukraine for the economic pain to be removed. A wound of its own making that nobody has sympathy for.

Short term pain for Europe and the world but the long term pain has only just begun for Russia. The world will recover and replace Russian goods and resources, while Russia can not replace all the lost imports and customers, let alone get around sanctions.

The future for Russia will only degrade further and further.

China and India are buying ALL the gas and other commodities Russia produces.

Try looking at the strategic picture, poo tins purblind focus on the Donbas and consequent stripping of forces from everywhere else has left opportunities for Ukrainian armed forces to counter attack, progressively clearing russian rapist forces from Kharkiv and consequently bringing the fragile supply line to Izumi within Ukrainian artillery range. At the same time counter attacks in the south are pushing in to Kherson Oblast with a distinct possibility of cutting the so called southern corridor in half leaving the isolated forces the choice of surrender or dying for poo tin!

As more and more advance, precision, longer range modern western weaponry is integrated in to the Ukrainian armed forces, it will become less and less tenable for him to hang on to the very limited gains he has managed to achieve at such heavy cost.

And this magical new supplier is ..... ? Norway can't produce more gas. Algeria, USA? May be, if they can find extra amount of gas and Asian markets do not outbid Europeans. Anyway, new gas for the Europeans will be way too costly. The era of cheap energy for Europe is over.

Yeah, yeah. I've been hearing this talk since 2014. "Russian economy in tatters", "sanctions from hell", "we cut them off from swift and they are ruined". Some people never learn.

Yes, the EU can find another provider, likely someone who is doing everything they accuse Russia of, in about half a decade.

Russia, on the other hand, can find another buyer, but it takes about half a decade to build a pipeline from scratch. The thing is that half a decade ago construction on pipelines from Russia to China started.

And half a decade from now, the priority of the human race is going to be preventing anyone from pumping more fossil fuels to new consumers.

The EU let the US bully it into an expansionist play in Ukraine (the offensive 'deal' offered, the rejection rejected by 'regime change', the rejection of the regime change rejected by a 'civil war' against the rejection, and now the rejection of the 'civil war' being rejected by an economic war and a doubling down on the 'civil war' support) and is going to pay a heavy price for that (inflation, unemployment, dropping standard of living are each factors that lead to civil unrest. All combined at once with the blowback from the knowledge that they all are rooted in governments choosing to act against the best interests of their populations is a recipe for a continent mired in rolling revolts and suppression of revolts)
