It makes you wonder if they had concentrated on military targets, Russia would have done a lot better than the failed attempt at civilian terrorism.
TaiwanIsNotChina
This aide isn't wrong, either. And a ceasefire will require full NATO armament of Ukraine like we've never seen before.

Not a school?! Not a hospital?! Not an orphanage?! The Russians must’ve made a mistake!

Victory will come when Ukraine cut off the west by driving down to Melitotpol. This cuts those troops of from supply from the east. At that point without supplies, Russia has to send supplies via two narrow crossings that connect Crimea to the rest of Ukraine. The UA can target those supplies with HIMARS.
At that point with out supplies, Russian troops withdraw to Crimea.
With Crimea cut off from the North, Ukraine can then just send missiles into Crimea. With Crimea cut off from the North, Ukraine can then just send missiles into Crimea.
UChosePoorly
JJE - lol, you are trying to get Ukraine to hand over half their country to Russia? Good luck with that. Ukraine will fight until the invaders are expelled and the rest of the free world will continue to help Ukraine to do so.
TaiwanIsNotChina
I believe Zelensky did visit the front line a couple times. And press ganging is what Russia is doing and recruiting criminals.
Then that should tell you that peace talks are not at hand and to stop whinging about it.
As many as it takes to have a secure and prosperous Ukraine from Russian influence.
ClippetyClop
Well done! You've won the war. All that grabbing the ankles for Putin is finally paying off for you.
rdemers
Pootin is showing the whole they don't have to be afraid of Russians and that they are killed very easily. Time is running out for their lot. Sooner than later...

Posters on JT say that the pro-Ukraine crowd are deluded. But this completely tops that. Because the Russian army can't move anywhere forward now. The Wagners took 8 months and 20,000 killed, just to get Bakhmut.
They have no show of getting Kherson back and further, Odesa. Absolutely no show.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Putin visited a destroyed city far from the front line, at night, with his hired goons to round up some loyal citizens. Completely different from Zelenskyy visiting heroes in Bakhmut.
Kumagaijin
No end in sight for this conflict.
PTownsend
The invading Russians have "attempted to seize" areas, in the Kremlin and its partners Iran and China's ongoing 'war' with Ukraine. Russia might be able to destroy all the buildings in Ukraine, but it will be a Phyrric victory, the main 'win' for Russia will be the elimination of tens of thousands of its most hardened criminals, i.e those taken from prisons and then slaughtered in the invasion.
2020hindsights
JJE
Putin would never allow that. That's how this whole conflict started with Ukraine wanting to join the EU.
Cards fan
lol Right. They're just dragging this war out to get more of their soldiers killed. Makes sense!
wallace
Clay
And also the Italian PM Meloni.
Germany, Italy, and France offered Zelenskyy more weapons.
fallaffel
Well, their last one was basically a dud except for taking one city. Very little territory was regained.
Haaa Nemui
everything that follows that is nonsense and just proves Russia and its supporters are not looking for peace at all. They are looking for control and subservience. I would have thought we might see it quieten down a little though with Podolyak’s claim of successfully targeting Russian propagandists.
Haaa Nemui
They would never do something because they don’t do something entirely unrelated. Lol

Except that Ukraine can take their country back. You continue to ignore that.

"Russia’s image: According to a multi-country survey, 57% of respondents say they do not approve
Russian leadership, which is a major jump from 38% in 2021 and the highest number ever recorded since 2007."
"In Hungary, 54% of respondents think that the war against Ukraine could lead to a world war. "
" Italians, 45.2%, believe that there will probably be a counteroffensive"
"Ukrainians, over 67% say the war with Russia can only end with Ukraine's victory and that compromise with Russia is unacceptable, 22% of respondents say they can make some compromises, "
From reading the report none of that is true. Not all EU/European countries are mentioned in the report.
But
"In Germany, 45% of people are in favour of military support to Ukraine as it has been delivered by the West so far,"
Haaa Nemui
of course it’s completely unlikely, but Russia demanding a DMZ solely on Ukraine’s side of the border is never going to happen now. If there is going to be a DMZ it needs to be on both sides. No nation will accept a DMZ inside their own border against a militarized Russia that has shown its desire to invade and expand.
La vie douce
"With these constant attacks, the enemy seeks to keep the civilian population in deep psychological tension," said Serhiy Popko, the head of the city's military administration."
More like its about depleting Ukraine air defense missile stock...apparently the Shahed drones are 1-20 times cheaper than missiles taking them down.
2020hindsights
What ol' Jack Burton always says
Moral of the story? Wars are impossible to predict, but Ukraine have a good chance.
They don't have any. They are trying daily to obliterate Ukraine rapidly with drones and missiles and failing.
Yeah. The better option would be for Russia to admit that it has lost this war and remove their forces. I mean what is Putin fighting for now? His reasons for this war were primarily regime change and to appoint a puppet in Kyiv - in which he has spectacularly failed.
Nope.
TaiwanIsNotChina
There is official and there is unofficial. Unofficially everything can be done that would accompany NATO membership and there is nothing Russia can do to stop it.

Clay
how would your country respond to a Russian invasion and war?
fallaffel
A big claim, with no evidence.
Tell it to the Ukrainians who lived in Crimea before 2014...
2020hindsights
Clay
Also, all the Pentagon didn't think that Ukraine stood a chance at all before Russia invaded.
Moral of the story? Wars are impossible to predict, but Ukraine have a good chance.
Nope. Still impossible to predict.
Perfect demonstration on why wars are impossible to predict. You have left out half the viable ways that Ukraine can win. The Russian army are not motivated and there is a lot of infighting. You could see a collapse like what occurred last year in Kharkiv. Or starved supplies like what happened in Kherson last year. Don't limit the vectors of success to your own imagination.
No he doesn't.
Agree. Putin should leave Ukraine immediately.
2020hindsights

The only thing that's being offered is we will put nukes in your country, but we will control them.
Looks like a good deal, but it doesn't change a thing. Because having nukes in your country that you can't use to threaten a would be attacker is next to useless.
This isn't a US NATO proxy war. It's an imperialistic war of aggression by Russia on Ukraine. Agree that we don't want nuclear proliferation, but I would be surprised if Russia went through with this offer to any country.
TaiwanIsNotChina
If it is unofficial, it doesn't need to be ratified. Most of the American public does not want surrender, as we can see with Lindsey Graham's remarks.

I don't know if you missed it, but during Zelensky's last European tour last week, he got solid support from Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron, and Rishi Sunak. The Baltic states and Poland as well as Scandinavia already solidly support Ukraine.

Current state of US NATO Ukraine proxy war's failed path per expert below, highest ranking US military officer. We should all take heed, more fighting will achieve no positive outcome, only the opposite.
General Miley's, highest ranking US official to openly and constantly push for peace negotiations, based on his professional view that conventional military victory by Ukraine not achievable.
Seems he's no longer wanted in DC sadly.
2020hindsights
Clay
General Miley:
"This war, militarily, is not going to be won by Russia. It's just not,"
*Still, he said, the presence of Russia's large fighting force in Ukraine will make Kyiv's attempt to recapture all of its territory, including that seized by Moscow in 2014, not likely to happen "in the near term."*
So, he said that it's not achievable "in the near term".
Also, all the Pentagon didn't think that Ukraine stood a chance at all before Russia invaded.
Moral of the story? Wars are impossible to predict, but Ukraine have a good chance.
UChosePoorly
Clay - You are making it sound like he is being forced out, but that is ridiculous. His term is over. We are not at war or under any kind of national emergency.

That wouldn't have stopped anything because this war isn't about Ukraine being neutral. It's about Ukraine looking to the EU and turning away from Russia and it's about Putin think Ukraine is a part of Russia.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Ukraine did quite well in its offensive last year and you don't know what they will have for the offensive this year. Russia's "air superiority" has been a joke.
RKL
Definitely.

all of this could be avoided.
all of this destruction,misery,killings.
if UA had neutral status.no antirussian hate.no antirussian violence.
if problems of Minsk agreements were solved around negotiation table.
but plans of west warmongers were different...
Clay
Everyone thinks all this fighting is 'cost free', even great as it's other dying etc. Far greater consequence to world, global risks include below.
Clay
Early on hard predict, grinding conventional wars, not so. Only pathway for Ukraine's escalatory, either WMDs, NATO direct combat involve, or both. Miley knows this.
Nobody wins wars, Everyone Loses.
UChosePoorly
Clay - you may believe so, but the US does not. Guarantee you the people here don't think the US is at war. If something like Pearl Harbor or 9/11 happens, then maybe, but not right now.
Michael Machida
Is Russia still trying to win this war?
Rodney
I’m beginning to think Russia works together with the US industrial military complex. US taxpayers give them vast amounts of money, then Russia blows them all up, then US taxpayers give them more money and Russia blows them all up…
TaiwanIsNotChina
I don't think the 20k Russians killed in Bakhmut were killed by sticks and stones. NATO equipment works quite well, apparently.
Eastman

say to ukrainian citizens who still remained in Ukraine until now...about your "evidences"
Clay
Lots of Officials get re-appointed, it's NORMAL. Eg. Fed's Chairman Powell.
I'd hardly consider US's HIGHEST ranking officer's behavior, open efforts at pursuing PEACE to be SPAM.
I have plenty of respect for all, especially myself and General Miley, who's opinion means MUCH to MOST.
Clay
Everyone should consider public statements above by the President of Belarus, WMD proliferation's happening, full speed ahead, it's being OPENLY offered to ALL.
REAL cost to this US NATO Ukraine Proxy War, while this daily fighting drags on, World's getting Very Dangerous.
wtfjapan?
@quercetum
i think the same. lets take the Palestinian issue as an example. They have been fighting colonialism for 75 years, and keep losing more and more land with each year that goes by. Soon, Palestine will be completely ethnically cleansed. Perhaps had they given up from the start, it would have been different. We all know what Russia and Israel is doing is wrong but with the UK, and the US having Israel's back, we all know nothing will change. If we dont want history to repeat, an all out WW3 needs to happen to stop Russia. Non of this proxy war bull.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Russia hasn't demonstrated any ability to take a major city. You think Ukraine is a box of sweets Russia can just choose from? Many of those sweets have had quite a kick to them!
You know what they say about the Roman empire. There was ALWAYS another army.
It could be the 82% Ukraine holds right now. And there will be NATO missiles and planes right up close and comfortable to ensure it stays that way.
To add to the fantasy, huh? Lol.
Lol, Russia collapses at least every 80 years. Looks like the next collapse will be a lot sooner than than.
You can imagine what you want to imagine. NATO hasn't lost a generation of its people like Russia has.
UChosePoorly
Clay - You brought this up yesterday and you now know that Milley's term as CJCS is over in October. Don't spam this board with known disinfo. Have some respect for the owners of the board if not for yourself.

All weapons from pathetic NATO circUS and Russia still unstoppable..
Russia won't lose its holy war..

A "spring offensive" of 40,000 men with no air support against a force superior in size with are support is sending 40,000 men to die.
Clay
It's all in the eye of the beholder. US NATO Ukraine proxy war a national or global emergency?
I believe so but others do not. However, unprecedented and OPEN nuclear proliferation due to this conflict, that's strikes most as GLOBAL Emergency. Certainly, General Miley believes so as well.
Eastman

These who are behind the scenes of this conflict never care about these people, their lives or future as long as their land can be used as proxy battlefiled....

Kharkov is a probable but I think Odessa (a very Russian town) will be gifted to give Ukraine a port.
The Ukraine is on its third military, the first two were destroyed. Will they get another?
True, the EU is welcome to what will be left.
Russian assets in banks etc will be returned with interest.
Full recognition will take time as it will require a change of government in NATO governments.
Steady on....no need to rub their noses in it!
ian
If there's indeed a counter offensive coming up and Ukraine did successfully get back some territory,
does it stop there? Russia will no longer do a counter counteroffensive?
JJE
Here is the peace plan grounded in reality:
currently 23% of territory forfeited (including Crimea). This will extend to around 47% of territory, with the 4 adjacent oblasts of Odessa to Kharkov handed over. Possible to include all territory east of the Dnieper.
complete demilitarization under chosen third party supervision and monitoring.
ongoing neutrality for the rump state but can join the EU (subject to above point).
international sanction dumped, seized assets returned to russia. Reparations paid with interest.
a small portion of the funds might go to reconstruction at Russia's discretion.
current government goes into exile.
complete cooperation with trials of Moscow prosecuting nationalist criminals.
full international recognition for the revised territorial borders.
final signing includes a clause acknowledging the intentionally provoked nature of operation, including explicit mention of failure to sign and deception of Minsk.Clay
One can search ANY European country, quickly find info about Ukraine refugees, refugee services, statistics on growth in Ukrainian war refugees etc. Unprecedented European refugee crisis in post WWII era.
Obvious Ukraine's rapidly depopulating, who could live there under present situation? Especially young families. Besides physical danger, mental trauma's real.
Continued military escalation leads to nothing good for Ukraine or World, Ukraine refugees less likely to ever return as Ukraine's destroyed daily while Russian nuclear proliferation full speed ahead to all their partners etc.
Clay
America not as relevant, though US trend's less support. European public on war's front lines with Ukrainian refugee crisis etc. EU politicians take heed/see below, EU citizens support Ukraine humanitarian & rebuilding.
Most Europeans in recognized current polling below DO NOT support continued Ukraine military support for their respective countries. Trends clear, reasons, escalation, especially nuclear, economic damage, inflation etc.
Such Polling represents Democratic Will of EU Citizens

Ukraine will never be a member of NATO or the EU in the near future, unless Russian control area a member of the EU too, because they are recognized part of Ukraine

@2020hindsights
You’re right and I’d have to agree that Russia will hold on to parts of Ukraine but you need to cut your losses. Are we going to fight down to the last bamboo spear?
At some point, you meet your fate. China has not left East Turkestan or Tibet. Japan is still holding on to Ryukyu and the US has not completely withdrawn from Japan. Russia holds on to Northern Manchuria. Territories are lost. Nations cease to exist temporarily or permanently.
Each nation faces their own fate. Native American tribes were wiped out by Native American tribes too.
Fate may change. The U.S. left Afghanistan, and the former Soviet Union collapsed. Israel’s fate took two millenniums to realize. Ukraine is caught between the West and Russia. That is their fate and this will not change.

Taiwan
Yawn, they both visited near the front lines, nowhere near the fighting you see, they don’t want to get any muck on their attire whilst men are in awful, conditions in trenches away from their families.
Mr Kipling
The UK defense minister posted a photo of himself and the UK's latest "game changer" missiles and the adapted Soviet era aircraft that would carry them at this base
Oops... Ukraine now has 5 less of those aircraft.
Amazing when you consider that Russia was running out of missiles months ago.

Taiwan, the US Senate would never ratifiy Ukraine as a member of NATO, because why help Ukraine, when they do not help their American citizens

I’m afraid that Zelensky as well as Putin is leading innocent men, many press ganged into a meaningless slaughter. Reminds me of WWI you see. These leaders never go on the front line and out their fiends or family on the front lines, do people, realise that.
Both sides making ridiculous peace plan demands that neither side will agree on.
How many more deaths for the ego of these lunatics?
