Russian officials have once more vigorously rejected accusations of meddling in the U.S. presidential elections and dismissed allegations that Moscow was behind a series of recent hacks on U.S. institutions.

Uh huh. And I'm sure they are telling the truth.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

There's alot of clutching at straws lately. I can imagine the uproar on cnn if russia was flinging baseless accusations. The hypocrisy is full of the cringe.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

If you listen carefully and without prejudice, your enemy will tell you the truth.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Telling people that there will be war if Clinton wins is not meddling?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@Haaa Nemui Just trying to stop a world war.

Russia has missiles that can hit America. 1 missile fly's at 8,000km and can't be stopped. It is 1,333 bigger then the bomb dropped on Japan, and can wipe out Texas.

Just wake up because if there troops are killed, nuclear weapons start flying.

1 can only hope if it goes nuclear that it is blowing up warships unto the reality hit's America is will be all out nuclear war if they don't stop.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The U.S. would probably be meddling in Russia's elections, too . . . if they had any.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The Slavs are just upset at the sanctions killing their economy. If they mouth off again, tighten the sanctions and send their economy back another few decades

1 ( +4 / -3 )

@obliqueweapons - war is coming regardless of who gets in... China building up their presence in the South China Sea (and further afield)... NK increasing their nuclear activity... Duterte changing his nation's allegiances... Russia ordering it's citizens home... I'm not saying America has no fault in this, but I think it's really irrelevant who is president as to whether war happens. I think the only reason they want Trump is because of his lack of experience.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@BurningBush If Russia is broke and weak, how come the US is so worried about them?

I'm sure you've read about how broke and weak Hitler's Germany was in the 1930's and also read about how broke and weak Stalin's Russia was at the same time.

The 'broke and weak' can also be desperate. Wounded, rabid animals are usually the most dangerous.

And I don't think it's just the US that worries about Czar Vlad's Russia.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Oh, yes, "Russians are coming"!!!

<http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/10/11/russkies-at-the-doorstep/

I'm not a US citizen and I do not follow these elections much, but I think the whole "Putin's hacking" stuff extremely stupid and illogical.

First, what about proof? If you charge somebody even with stealing your wallet with twenty bucks, you need to prove it. Here is a much serious alleged crime, but nobody seems to be interested in proof. Somebody just say "Russians did the hacking", and then the chorus in media "Let's pinish them". The same performance was staged just before the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Remember Colin Powell with his "Saadam has nukes" comic show at UN?

Second, I can't get it - according to Obama, Russia is just a "regional power with its economy in tatters". Nevertheless, if we just for a moment believe in the hacking plot story, we'll see a superpower with capabilities worthy a great James Bond movie plot.

I think in these elections Putin became a very hahdy strawman, concealing real grave problems Americans really should think about.

@stormcrow

The U.S. would probably be meddling in Russia's elections, too . . . if they had any

Russia has elections, and the US is meddling in them very actively, the whole Russian "democratic opposition" is on US payroll. The money not very clever spebt, I should say.

@dcog9065

The Slavs are just upset at the sanctions killing their economy. If they mouth off again, tighten the sanctions

And how you are going to fly to the space without Russian rocket engines and spacecraft?

Some news for you about the "killed" Russian economy:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-08-10/stealing-a-peek-at-russian-economic-recovery-before-it-happens

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

for a regional power, as President Obama called us some time ago,

Yep, that's what they're really still whining about folks.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Asakaze: First, what about proof?

Obviously only a state actor as puissant as Russia is could break the Fort Knox of servers that was set up by Hillary's part-time campaign tech.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Some news for you about the "killed" Russian economy:

@Asakaze: Hmm, so the current sanctions aren't hurting Russia as much as hoped? Ok then we need to increase them 10-fold to cause some actual damage. Good find!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@turbotsat

Obviously only a state actor as puissant as Russia is could break the Fort Knox of servers

Russia "puissant"?? Russia "in tatters", remember? And what happened to the Chinese bogeyman? A couple of years ago "Chinese hackers everywhere" was in vogue in the US. Anyway, neutral observers would like to see hard evidence, not abstract conclusions. Sorry, but after Powell's "100 percent proof" of Saddam nukes just words of US politicians are not very credible.

@dcog9065

Hmm, so the current sanctions aren't hurting Russia as much as hoped? Ok then we need to increase them 10-fold to cause some actual damage

Hmm, you failed to break Iran with sanctions, but hope to break Russia? Go ahead, I want to enjoy this show. And good luck to NASA with flights on Musk's rockets.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Corrupt politicos accuse Russia of trying to rig the election that they themselves have rigged. Vote for Johnson. Vote hard.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

@Asakaze: "Russia has elections . . . "

Then why does Putin look like he's the Russian president for life. Oh, that's right. Putin has like 99.9% popularity ratings. Even a dictator like Stalin would have been envious of those kinds of percentages.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@stormcrow

Then why does Putin look like he's the Russian president for life

Why F.D.Roosevelt was the US president for such a long time? Because that period of history was very difficult for the US, and Americans thought that he was the best choice. Now Russia in difficult period, and Russians think Pitin is the best choice.

And your figures for Putin's approval rating are not correct:

https://www.r-accent.com/2015/12/02/almost-90-percent-of-russians-support-putin-poll/

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

While Western leaders twiddle their thumbs and whine, Putin takes action and then smirks.

The world would rue it when the US does the same

Dear Asakaze, I was being sarcastic. To spell it out, it's HRC's people and Obama's FBI who are claiming it must be Russia. Hillary Rodham Clinton's career style, proven year after year, is to underperform and to screw everything up aggressively, then to slither out of the jams she created with the assistance of lawyers, PR firms, and compliant media, and then claim how bright and effective she is. And in this particular case, with the assistance of technicians smart enough to take the 5th but not smart enough to secure a server.

President Obama should appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the cyper-hacking of the Democrat e-mails, as well as Trump's possible connections with the enemies of the USA. Also, let's hope that First Lady Michelle will support the accusers of Trump in their legal fights against the predator. Trump and his cronies have gone to low.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

turbotsat, I was doing the same, I'm really neutral in these elections, and as a neutral observer I see total absurdity of many aspects of this race.

You may love to hear that Trump is not the Manchurian Candidate of the Russians (or at least not proven to be), but of The Democratic National Committee and the mainstream media.

One of the wikileaks is an email that lists Republican candidates and markes them as 'Pied Piper' or 'Establishment'. Three of them, Trump, Cruz, and Carson were all marked 'Pied Piper', the others including governors Jeb Bush and Chris Christie were marked 'Establishment'. The email said:

We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to them seriously.

No doubt given recent revelations of media collusion 'the press' willingly complied. You may remember Jeb Bush's campaign complaining last year before he dropped his bid that they could not get the press to talk to them. If the serious candidates are going to be surreptitiously starved of oxygen by the media, naturally the looneytune candidates are going to stand out.

Also, this email was sent two months before Trump even announced his bid. And one month before his hourlong phone conversation with Bill Clinton, which an aide claim had nothing to do with Trump running for the presidency. I guess they talked about grandchildren and golf.

@Haaa Nemui Yes China is and if they make sub speed boats they will destroy America at sea. Drop off fuel by sea and air and the boats have front suckers that rip them under water for 5 - 8 seconds. That would stop laser weapons and there new lock-on weapons from working.

North Korea only has 2 nuclear bombs left, that can't be fit on a missile. 200 laser weapons near Seoul will stop every artillery and missile round in range......4,000 rounds a min.

NK can only fire 3,600 rounds per min, and last time nk hit the island there rounds had a 25% fail to detonate. We can stop nk from doing damage to their city's.

The CIA know for $2 billion dollars they can do the above, so why haven't they?

Russia will use nuclear weapons, they are prepared to die.

Trump lacks nothing. He has a brain and wonts to make peace.

@Asakaze

Blow up a few more hospitals and annex a few more territories and I'll bet Putin's popularity ratings will go from 90% to 95% overnight.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@turbotsat

Thanks for the information, interesting.

@stormcrow

Save your bet, Putin does not need any such tricks. He is not Bill Clonton, who started the war against Yugoslavia to deflect attention from his exploits with Monica. Wow! That was trick of awesome scale!

You consume too much propaganda, seriously. Accusations, and no facts of any substance.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It looks like you're on pretty shaky ground comparing the U.S. stopping of a slaughter and genocide in Yugoslavia with another slaughter and genocide being conducted by the Russians in Allepo.

However, I'm sure that Putin is quite happy that there are people out there who defend and support the Russian airforce's bombing of defenseless civilians, hospitals and now UN aid convoys.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@stormcrow

the U.S. stopping of a slaughter and genocide in Yugoslavia with another slaughter

You must be joking. Sufferings of people of Yugoslavia was the least the White House was concerned about. The US agression against Yugoslavia was just a ruse to deflect attention from certain stains on Monica's dress and looming impeachment of Billy The Womanizer. And the US agression turned the civil war in Yugoslavia into real slaughter - of the Serb population by Croatian, Bosnian and Albanian nationalists and resulted in the dismemberment of Yugoslavia and creation of the illegal failed narcostate of Kosovo, the ulcer of Europe now.

I'm sure that Putin is quite happy that there are people out there who defend and support the Russian airforce's bombing of defenseless civilians

Most Japanese, as any people in the world, are not very much interested in foreign affairs, being too busy with everyday routine. But many among those who are interested and can think see Putin rather favourably. Definitely the number of innocent people killed by Russian air force is incomparable with the number of killed by US planes and drones in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya and Syria, so all the cries from Washington about Russian actions are pure hypocrisy and means to apply pressure and win concessions.

You need less propaganda and more critical thinking. Good luck with that!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@Asakaze: "But many among those (Japanese) who are interested (in foreign affairs) and can think see Putin rather favourably."

Maybe you're right about some, I certainly wouldn't say many, Japanese trusting the Russians.

However, can you answer this question: Why haven't the Russians returned the Northern Islands back to Japan?

But, according to you, many Japanese view the Russians favourably? It sure doesn't make any sense to me.

Honestly, I don't think the Russians are ever going to return the Northern Islands, regardless of the amount of wishful thinking the Japanese have on the matter.

The Japanese should also thank their lucky stars that the Uncle Sam didn't allow the Russians to invade, occupy & annex Hokaido as well when Stalin demanded that at the end of WWII. You are aware of that demand, aren't you?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@stormcrow

I certainly wouldn't say many, Japanese trusting the Russians

As I've already said, most Japanese are not interested in foreign policy. Older generations, for decades fed with "Soviets are coming" propaganda, are still suspicious of Russia, for younger generations the Cold War hysteric propaganda does not work. And I wrote not about general "trust", but the fact that many Japanese, interested in foreign policy affairs, see very solid reason in Russian actions in Syria and, when compare to US actions, see all the duplicity and hypocrisy of Washington's whining.

However, can you answer this question: Why haven't the Russians returned the Northern Islands back to Japan?

Can you stay on subject of the thread? I don't want to waste my time on comments that would be deleted as off-topic. The problem of the Northern territories is extensively covered in JT news, you are welcome to read all the discussions.

occupy & annex Hokaido as well when Stalin demanded that at the end of WWII. You are aware of that demand, aren't you?

I'm very aware that US always use the subject, as well as the subject of the Northern territories, to drive a wedge between Japan and Russia as soon as there is a possibility of rapprochement between them. And I have not read any archival documents with Stalin's demands of Hokkaido. If you can provide a link I'll be grateful.
