Russia is a shell of it self, trying to remain relevant

All Russia (along with other countries) is doing is trying to clean up the mess the US has created in its attempts to remain relevant

Russia may say they are nsync but you never know what the backstreet boys are planning. Taliban are back in the headlines but hardly new on the block.

Russian disinformation

Russia is only working in sync because the Taliban is bad for them and their vested interests in the middle east. Only real common ground Russia has with the west.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This is all about each country's self interest...

Russia is worried about Islamic extremism in Chechnya, Dagestan, and its other Muslim regions...

China is worried about Islamic extremism in Xinjiang, Gansu, and it Muslim regions...

Pakistan is worried about instability on its border that deflects from its attention on India...

That being said don't trust anything that comes out of Lavrov's mouth - he's a Putin flunky that wants to do anything he can to harm and destabilize the West...

US - Russia

The Losers of Afghanistan understand each other better.

lol..

Seems like China is about to join that same party.

Russian disinformation

More bullcrap from Vladimir. He paid bounties to the Taliban to off our US soldiers. Now that his quisling boot-licker is no longer in the WH, now he says he's 'on our side' against the Taliban.

And I ain't buying it.

Afghanistan is in the Middle East? Of course. Every Muslim country is in the Middle East, right?

This is a joke, right? It's funny.

Lavrov just returns the favor. That being said don't trust anything that comes out of Blinken's mouth - he's a Biden flunky that wants to do anything he can to harm and destabilize Russia.

Actually Lavrov is right, as usual. Russia wants Afghanistan to be stable and extremism prevented. If the U.S. wants the same, they have the same interests as Russia.

@starpunk

Not tired to repeat the same old fake news again and again? Ever heard about Pentagon's opinion on that?:

The United States, China, Russia and Pakistan are working together

Just empty diplomat speak. Of course all of these parties have very different interests.

Good grief, you still believe that debunked nonsense? Makes one wonder how many more fake news hoaxes some people still believe in.

Why can't they believe in a real conspiracy theory like Tower 7, right?!

It would be refreshing to see Russia and the US genuinely working towards the same goal of moderating Taliban behavior and ensuring women have rights to work, education and leaving home without males to conduct their business.

While they remain polar opposites, they can accomplish things in space, on the environment and in Afghanistan through cooperation. Perhaps the more they can get right by working together the more they will aim for in the future.

While Russia may not move away from Autocratic rule for some time, if they can understand the west does not hate them, and that they can integrate themselves into the leadership group by not opposing the US and western Europe just for the sake of it. They could be treated as equals if they give up their desire to be seen as top dog. They have some innovative and smart people.

More is accomplished with less effort through co-operation than through opposition. They work well together on the ISS, that should be able to be extended to include planet Earth.

But to do that, Russia would have to stop being trolls for a while, I don't see that happening. It's sort of a national identity now.

Successful co-operation can be addictive. The more you achieve the more you want to achieve more. The world needs more of that to happen now and in the future. We just need to encourage the ball to get rolling. That starts by no name calling, putting down or pointing to things you may consider faults. Lets try something new for a change, it cant hurt.

Is that how you respond to internet trolls? I don't see it working. If a troll doesn't want to stop trolling, the only thing they're going to do with your gestures of good faith will be to troll you.

You can't fight someone's nature. This is what Russia has decided they are.

I like to think that when people can co-operate on important issues they can learn new behavior. Trolling is nationalistic and if it is in the nations interest to co-operate then trolling becomes counter productive.

That's the normal person's way of thinking. The problem is, troll's goal is to antagonize, to agitate. They love olive branches, because it gives more room to troll.

On this one, Russia would have to show good faith on shutting down their trolling, which, as it's state sponsored by Putin, is extremely unlikely..

I think we just have to isolate Russia from the rest of us, they're nothing other than harmful. Has Russia done anything good for the world in the last 50 years? Can't say I've heard of anything.

If they overthrow Putin, then maybe something can happen. But the longer he is in power, the more he puts in systems that ensure he stays in power, so I think we have to accept that Russia is a player with no intent whatsoever on working with the world.

We need everyone working together asap so isolating is the wrong direction to take to get co-operation. We cant give up or use strategies that do not work. Time to suck up the differences and let the similarities of necessity bring us together.

I agree, but you're talking about cooperation with a party that has no interest in cooperation, and just wants to troll. You're speaking ideology, and unfortunately in this situation, it won't work with the current reality. Putin has no interest in working together, Putin has no interest in being a team player. Putin wants to troll the world. So how can we cooperate with that?

Unfortunately, it's just like the anti-vaxxers. You can't make them take the vaxx, but you can isolate them. Isolate Russia unless/until they disband the Internet Research Agency, and put forward good faith that they're done trolling.

But we all know that won't happen.

Putin does whats in Putin's best interests. Saving the planet is saving Russia and is in Putin's best interests so there is an avenue that can be taken, along with co-operation on the Taliban issue.

Concentrate on what can be done not what you think cant. If we cant get everyone's co-operation then we have already lost and may as well pack up our marbles and go home and wait for oblivion.

I would rather give it a shot. Hail mary's do happen from time to time.

The former, I agree with. The latter? Why is it in his best interest? He's old, the planet will be fine as long as he's around, and he is one of the richest men on the planet. So I'm having troubles seeing what his motivation is for "saving the planet". Whereas if I look at his actions over the past few years, they have been antagonize and disrupt, the opposite of cooperate and coordinate.

Concentrate on what can be done not what you think cant.

That's the optimist vs. the pessimist argument. I am for the realist - focus your efforts on the what you think can actually be done, based on what you've seen can't. In this case, expecting anything less than trolling from Russia is setting yourself up for more trolling. Let's stop wasting time with Russia, who have no interest in working with us, and put our resources into more realistic solutions, focusing on nations that are willing to cooperate.

How about three daughters and at least one grandchild? Ensuring the survival of ones progeny is important to all dictators, even Putin.
