A war of attrition on foreign soil. Great strategy. LOL.

Easy to say from the comfort of my home, but ceding any territory to Russia seems like encouraging more such action in the future. Send them away with nothing but the bodies of their soldiers to discourage such actions again in the future.

NATO needs to figure out how to get military supplies in to the eastern areas that are holding, like Mariupol.

here what Russia wants they got...

Ukraine will be east Ukraine and west Ukraine

If there was a good world leader on the chair, this would not have happened.. Now it is time for US voters to save America and the world.

The longer it goes on, the worse it will get. The more Russian soldiers who die, the more they have invested in the war, the harder it is to ever leave.

Ha ! This is the equivalent of Manchester United conceding the Premiership, & focusing their efforts on winning the League Cup

Russia will not let go of Ukraine until it secures a government that is not a fascist puppet of the West so that it never tries to install missiles to intimidate Russian security..

TokyoLiving - and what happens if the Ukrainian people reject this government that is installed by Russia?

If the Russian forces succeed in encircling Mykolaiv, Odesa and several other Black Sea port

The news tend to report how many cities Russia has taken. Russians seem to want to surround cities.

Taking cities is labor and resource intensive, once a city is conquered, one needs to supply water, food, housing, heat and manage the people and cities. Managing occupied territories was where US failed in wars. By not taking cities, Russia avoids one of the biggest challenges.

Like Russia in Afghanistan, right? They couldn't leave... until they did.

Russia beseiges and destroys cities.

IOW, "we didn't want your stupid cities anyway!"

It seems to me Russia finally failed the war and used huge money for it. Russia will suffer from financial problems for many years.

Russia shifts focus to try to grind Ukraine's army in east

To say precisely, Russia shifts focus to try to grind non-violent civilians and non-military infrastructures in the east. They've already failed to capture Kyiv, to overthrow Zelensky's regime.

A Russian wounded bear is more dangerous than a Russian angry bear.

The glum and gloomy faces of Russia's military commanders sitting around the conference table tell a silent tale of woe, but Putin's plan is also plain to see: peace in Ukraine will cost a piece of Ukraine. In the meantime, the Kremlin continues to "Groznify" the cities, towns and villages standing in their way, but the Ukrainians, supplied with more Western military hi-tech hardware, should not concede an inch of territory and just press on making the Russians bleed until the Russian people at home can't take Putin's destruction of their lives any more: only they can make Biden's wish come true by rediscovering their inner revolutionary.

In most English dictionaries the word 'facist' describes Putin's Russia today. After all when the little balding blond male worked with East Germany's Stasi, he worked around lots of ex-Nazis, fresh from WW2. He learned to ape Fascist approaches, and has used them to keep Russian people under his control, and knows how to use propaganda to attract right wing extremists around the world, including the USA who want to be controlled by an authoritarian, especially one that his followers think is 'savvy' and' strong'. True-believers seem to need a cult leader to follow and are willing to risk nuclear annihilation to serve their cult leader's ego.Nuclear winter does not sound appealing to me. Read Cormac McCarthy's "The Road".

Russia shifts focus to try to grind Ukraine's army in east

The only shift have been western media, USA and Ukrainian propaganda.

From the start it was apparent Russia's plans where to take the Eastern part unite Russia with Crimea and to demilitarized the rest as an independent country buffer zone never to take the whole country.

At the first "peace" negotiation Russia directly told Ukraine this exactly and was written in all the articles including JT on March 16/17.

Shelling and bombing Kyiv etc.. Was to "soften" Ukraine so it would be more willing to give in to the March 16 demands.

You can look it up though, the JT article on the day tittle and comments are still available the article itself "is no longer available" but other news sites still provide the details.

Zelenskyy has finally come to his senses and making a deal with Putin .

Where did you get that info from?

About a week about Zelensky said there was room for a deal, unfortunately the hardliners and others actually believe their own propaganda that Ukraine can win and have been blocking any deal.

Now this isn't from some Russian source or pro Putin news site this was in an article on CBC News.

A perfect time for the Ukraine to "purchase" ex soviet fighters and bombers from any nearby nations looking to upgrade their fighter force and looking to "dispose" of "cheap" old Soviet systems and ordinance.

Russia cant accuse anyone of joining the war if it is a simple trading transaction. It is not aid if they buy them. Russia is buying from China.

The Ukraine must also increase attacks on Russian forces in the south and east to gain back territory. Including moving into Crimea and Donbas regions. Time to kick out the uninvited "pests" and clean house.

The only shift have been western media, USA and Ukrainian propaganda.

When extremists don't want to be openly seen to support their idol the Butcher of Moscow, they attack something they call 'the media'. While continuing to say they're neutral but still believing what's said by the Kremlin's media.

When extremists don't want to be openly seen to support their idol the Butcher of Moscow,

Sad calling people names when the info I have is 100% verifiable by standard media including CBC BBC JT, and any other outlet you'd like to look at.

Here I will give you a hand.

Unlike some here that talk big push for more killing (as long as they don't have to go), I would just like this war over, it doesn't matter at this point who is right or wrong stop the fighting any way possible, then later see about finding a diplomatic solution.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

it doesn't matter at this point who is right or wrong

but it’s obvious by your comments who you think is wrong. The fact that you rationalise Putin’s actions of murdering & maiming innocent women & children, & destroying their cities, makes you no better than Putin himself.

Butcher of Moscow,

Calling Putin a nasty name hurts your feelings does it ?

How about the feelings of all those innocent victims he ordered to their deaths - both Russian & Ukrainian ?

Olegek - What do you think Russia is planning? Is Poland next? The Baltics? The rest of Moldova?

Why do you keep writing this? Poland is a NATO member. It’ll never happen. Besides, Poland hates neo nazis just as much as the rest of us.

So, with the diplomatic use of force (slow, stepwise expansions of the battlespace, with pauses to allow for a political response) having been thwarted by a simple refusal to acknowledge reality, Russia is turning to the strategic use of force to create the reality that the Minsk Treaty set out as what the Ukrainian regime would cooperate in peacefully creating.

If Russia had indeed been after a 'quick victory' they wouldn't have assembled and displayed a large force of armored vehicles and then moved them around enough masse to park for a day or two, they'd have opened by airlifting in a thousand troops to seize and secure the Kiev airport, and then the next few hours flying in the large force of armored vehicles and taking Kiev before the news networks could pick the right graphics to illustrate what was going on to the infamously geographically challenged American audience.

Wobot

People claiming Russia was planning to quickly take over the country and failed don't understand how wars are carried out and are ignorant of history.

No. We know that they were planning to to quickly take over the country because they accidentally released their victory propaganda article two days after the invasion. And then had to quickly delete it. But the Internet Archive kept it.
