For a country that's supposed to be almost broke, financially, there's a lot of money being spent in this exercise in the form of munitions, fuel and rations.

The Russian short man's complex gets worse and worse under tiny Putin.

Like a Yorkshire terrier with a meth come-down.

If Putin told the Donald he could dress up like Mussolini he'd be there in a Moscow minute. He couldn't have his martial display in DC so why not invite draft dodging Donnie to Siberia.

Russia to launch biggest war games in its history

Why not?

Everybody else is!

Both China and Russia are taking this opportunity to "check" and "feel" each other's capability out while showing off some of their and non-secret techniques in warfare while both trying to get rid of old ordinances and equipment which they could not or cannot sell to other countries and to test their new armaments. The US had the opportunity in many wars to get rid of old ordinances, equipment and armaments that cost more to warehouse and maintain and replace them with new and much more effective ones, but China and the Russia really did not have that opportunity to do so. Even N Korea had more opportunities to get rid of their older ordinances and armaments and to test their new armaments.

In that sense with the many war games the US and Japan along with S Korea have held, they were able to constantly upgrade their ordinances and armaments. It also helps to keep their domestic economy strong by the resupply of usable and new ordinances and armaments while ending maintenance on those that no longer are useful or viable. In essence war games help to divert maintenance costs to acquisition of the new. That in effect makes the military more efficient, effective and strong.

The politic of the war games, I really do not understand at this point.

But one thing is for sure, the US Congress and those who trash Russia for what ever reasons have alienated Russia from the US, not necessarily from Trump as the President.

China has by their own alienated the US. Their so called Silk Road and Asia prosperity sphere concept under their rule using economic and technological war against the US causing Trump to react, and their outright thievery of foreign land (S China islands) and fortifying them has alienated US and SE Asian countries.

In any case, I do not see Russia and China becoming allies.

Good opportunity for China to study. They've always wanted to take Manchuria.

demilitarize

err remilitarize.

Maybe that collusion between Trump and Putin is correct after all. Certainly Putin is playing into the hands of Trumps desires and PM Abe.

I'm surprised you haven't come to the conclusion that these Russia war games were aimed at China, because of, you know, white Euro pride or whatever.

Well, Russia raped half of Europe for half a century, of course all those countries would want to join NATO and keep (strategically, if not physically) as much of a distance as possible from the "motherland USSR". Let them do their wargames and spend their expired ammunition. This won't get them any friends in the West. With the discovery of green energy technologies, Russia's relevance is diminishing day-by-day.

Imagine 36,000 military vehicles moving at the same time

From what I've heard of typical large-scale military operations, I'd imagine it would be complete chaos.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Well, NATO had a drill nearby Russian borders in June so why can't Russia have its war games? (apart from using these money in some better way)

[ Major U.S.-led military exercise with 18,000 soldiers from 19 primarily NATO countries has kicked off in the alliance’s eastern flank involving Poland and the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania]

1 ( +4 / -3 )

And whichever side of the fence you're on - or even if you're sitting on it - saying that NATO has expanded is not just an accusation. It's a fact - Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro have all joined since 1990.

Agree. Russia is acting on realities.

Of course all these countries have good reasons for joining - just as Russia has good reasons to be wary of Western-allied expansions up to its borders. To have expected anything else from Russia is just naive.

I don't understand why Russians think the "West" is going to invade Russia. Why NATO is going to invade Russia. Makes no sense. Russia is full of white Europeans. They consider themselves Russian first, to be sure, just like most Germans and French would consider themselves German and French first, but they are white Europeans in large part. They also have the Russian Orthodox church as a strong element of Russian culture. A Christian church.

Unlike Chinese culture which is really very different to European and Western culture, Russia, not so much.

I look forward to the day when we can reset relations with the Russian people. Communist Russia ended a long time ago. There are more similarities in the ways Western and Russian economies are organised than there are between Chinese and Western economies, even accounting for Russian oligarchy.

There is no reason for us to be at each others throats.

Part of Putin's plan is to break up NATO, because, as a whole, Russia cannot compete with NATO, but can with individual parts. This military exercise isn't all that surprising because Putin has Trump in his pocket. All that Russian Oligarch money laundered through Trump and his hotels has connected Trump and his saved bankruptcy, to illegal Russian money. Whatever else the Russians have on him...golden showers, prostitutes, whatever...is just topping of Putin's power over Trump.

Trump's fawning over Putin, while putting down NATO allies(and NAFTRA), is because he is being owned by Putin. He is Putin's puppet, and this military exercise is a show of confidence by Putin, and he knows Trump isn't going to be US presidential and attack Putin's actions. Trump'll probably find some reason why it's fine, or his usual loud Twitter will turn to silence.

Putin's ego and love for power and violence is a scary thing. As scary is if China is in cahoots with Russia not on only this exercise, but a military buildup by the two countries. Trump had acted like his best buddies were Putin, Kim and Xi. But with that stupid trade war Trump started, I'm sure Xi is really pissed off at the USA, and whatever the purpose of this exercise is, there's trouble brewing, as Trump's foolishness accesses and exacerbates enemies' plans.

There's no way this military exercise happens without Putin's comfort of having the US president on his strings. This isn't about difference in the US/NATO and Russia as much about Putin's ego and love of power, and as shown in his dealing with his enemies, he'll kill without remorse. Donny thinks he's so nice, but he's been played the fool by Putin, and Putin believes he can do whatever he wants to.

When is Russia and China going to get rid of their nuclear weapons?

"When the U.S., U.K., France agree to do the same. And India with Pakistan."

Don't forget Israel and N Korea.

Like a Yorkshire terrier with a meth come-down.

LOL what a sight

This is great for the European and Japanese defense industries.

First you had Trump "firmly encouraging" Europe to dramatically up its anti in defense and now they witness Russia holding these massive war games. In with Japan a hairs breath away from the naval side of things, it will strongly encourage Japan to demilitarize which is a good thing for Asian security.

Maybe that collusion between Trump and Putin is correct after all. Certainly Putin is playing into the hands of Trumps desires and PM Abe.

Putin's Puppet has done a lot of harm to the Chinese economy. The Chinese should not be happy with Putin.

im no fan of Putin but this is why the west always underestimates Russia, this so called Yorkhire terrier has the bite of a pitbull if it comes to it. Russia is far from the pushover many dismiss them as, Georgia, Crimea & Syria is proof of that. WW2 showed you dont need the most advanced weapon to win a conflict, sheer number will do it also. And where only talking about Russia conventional weapons, when it comes to nukes they actually have more than America and the ICBMs to deliver them. Many may not agree but Russia brings a balance to world power, without them imagine what the US would get away with then!?

The word ''The West'' is by far the most abused word of the 21st century. It is a symbol of human stupidity and group-ism. What used to be merely a geographical term has now become a superiority status like cult. I don't see Russia 'rattleting'' Brazil, so therefore no, it's not ''ratteling the West''. In fact, i don't see anybody ''rattled'' other than the English tabloid editors who apparently see themselves as being in charge of the narrative.

@BigYen

Russia IS a Western country, because ''The Western World'' is Europe and its offshoots. Western - Eastern Europe are cold war terms. The real actual western Europe is not the one you are thinking of, and same goes for eastern Europe. There two words are not actual cultura entities, or any sort of regions based on culture or anything of that sort. The 3 major branches of Christianity are Protestant - Catholic and Orthodox. They are all the same religion, the main difference between them being who is in charge of the church. However, very few people in Europe are actually religious.

@Madverts

Ok a very short aggressive pit bull then

Alas, when normal people express their opinion in normal way Madverts turn the discussion into junior schoolers' name-calling excercise.

@Serrano

Don't forget Israel and N Korea

Basically you're right. There are technical nuances though: Israel is not "official" nuclear state (it does not admit nor deny having nukes), and while N.Korea has detonated nuclear devices it does not seem to have deployed nuclear weapons.

I said annexed

One that got bullied as a pup in the kennels and has a complex about going baldness as well as shortness.

no more bald than Trump, Id say Putin could kick Trumps butt without much effort, hes also far more wealthy, with no wealthy family to help him. Yes he probably got his money by dishonest means but that would make him better at business than Trump also, not bad for a short guy. Actually Putin and Trump share a lot in common so he should have a lot of support in America if he ever became and AMerican citizen. Trump Putin 2020

@Matt Hartwell

I don't understand why Russians think the "West" is going to invade Russia

They ask the same question: why NATO thinks Russia is going to invade the West? Russians have very good reasons not to trust NATO. In 90s after the Warsaw bloc was dissolved there were expectations that NATO would do the same, but it remained as a tool of Western dominance and even grew bigger. NATO aggressions against Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya did not help to win any trust.

Otherwise you have very valid points.

@Serrano

When is Russia and China going to get rid of their nuclear weapons?

When the U.S., U.K., France agree to do the same. And India with Pakistan.

There is only one power in the world actively invading other countries and annexing them right now. Plus all sorts of pathetic malign activity. It’s tiny Putin’s Russia

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Good job of team work! The Russia,China and Mongolia armies were fighting for a decent cause and a better world! This might is necessary to prevent world fallen in a castastropic conflict !

There is only one power in the world actively invading other countries and annexing them right now. lol pleeease no other country has invaded , bombed caused more instability in the world since the end of WW2 than America

When is Russia and China going to get rid of their nuclear weapons? Japan keeps asking for a world free of nuclear weapons...
