Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of Russia's Security Council, visited the enclave on Tuesday to chair a security meeting there. He said Lithuania's actions showed that Russia could not trust the West, which he said had broken written agreements over Kaliningrad

Rather rich coming from a Russian diplomat. I mean, how many times has the Russian government not kept their word?

18 ( +31 / -13 )

Time for you to head back Yuri, and give them a hand... they're going to need it.

16 ( +23 / -7 )

Russia threatened on Tuesday to punish Lithuania with measures that would have a "serious negative impact"

their consequences will have a serious negative impact on the population of Lithuania

That shows again what an agressive, warmongering, evil nation Russia is.

He said Lithuania's actions showed that Russia could not trust the West

Hahahaha...the biggest joke I ever heard.

Who the hell can trust Russia anymore after their nonstop lying, massmurdering and killing innocent women and children?

Thank you for this good morning joke.

But that is the only thing left for what is Russia good for. Making these kind of jokes.

16 ( +29 / -13 )

Moscow is running out of fresh troops

I have read this several times before in 'western' media, but I'm curious what the Z and Q cult members have read in their Kremlin's reports. And wonder whether some of the Zs and Qs are ready to go carry a weapon for their Kremlin, or just want to remain anonymous posters for their Russian brand of national socialism.

Lithuania is a NATO ally and the “mighty” Russian army isn’t going to pick a fight it will definitely lose especially when it is now down to re-activated T-62s vs. the Ukrainians.

Tell Ivan to pound sand.

17 ( +29 / -12 )

their consequences will have a serious negative impact on the population of Lithuania

I have no doubt that this evil nation Russia, will not hesitate to draw the world in a WWIII and that this mass murdering mob will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons.

The leaders of this evil nation and all their followers and supporters are completely insane.

14 ( +23 / -9 )

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte said it was "ironic" to hear Russia complain about alleged violations of international law, given that it had violated "possibly every single international treaty".

Exactly how Russia feels with NATO in cooperating on East Germany. Not an inch eastward. Does that justify an invasion? No, but becareful whom you provoke. See a bear. Back away slowly.

Russia says its "special military operation" aims to disarm Ukraine and protect it from "fascists". Kyiv and its Western backers say this is a false pretext to wage an unprovoked war of aggression.

Unfortunately, the US has taught the world how to give a false pretext. If the US, it's liberation. Russia invasion. China agression. Bangladesh immigration. UK civilization.

-9 ( +13 / -22 )

Ukrainain say Ukraine will be liberated by Christmas,I hope someone tell Santa that, another delusional

-12 ( +13 / -25 )

Lithuania is a NATO ally and the “mighty” Russian army isn’t going to pick a fight it will definitely lose especially when it is now down to re-activated T-62s vs. the Ukrainians.

Be that as it may, Russia has also not yet called the Ukrainian invasion a "war" and as such has not mobilized their economy for war. If Russia does decide to mobilize it could become a real problem. Think about it, absent a strong enough defending NATO ground force Russia could seize a corridor from Belarus to Kaliningrad and then dare NATO to do something about it. Were it mine to decide I would find a way to put a Brigade of US Army somewhere along the Polish-Lithuanian border region and work to bring other NATO member ground forces to the region around Kaliningrad as a deterrent.

13 ( +17 / -4 )

DT, Russian fear the US,it will be like shooting fish in a barrel

-19 ( +2 / -21 )

Dessert:

Agreed. My understanding is that the primary reason that Russians rely on tactical nukes in their doctrine is because their own sins show them losing decisively to a combined NATO army. However that supposed that said army is mobilized and positioned properly and in time.

So I agree with you and think that in addition to telling Ivan to pound sand, the US should deploy to the gap or to be positioned to get there quickly.

Thank you for the clarification. I always benefit from your insight.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

quercetum,

if I understand your post correctly (maybe I don't), but ....

"....NATO in cooperating on East Germany....", There was no cooperating concerning East Germany.

East Germans made their decision to get rid of the former GDR, and Russia's "boss" at that time agreed.

Not too much he could've done to prevent that move.

Anyways, back to topic: Putin must be completely deranged (I guess he is) if he wants to mess around with Lithuania, a NATO member. Maybe he didn't read or doesn't know what this would lead to! But more threats from him and his buddies will follow, most of which are just off the wall!

3 ( +11 / -8 )

What a typical, Russian, double standard. Invading a sovereign state, whose territorial integrity was guaranteed by Russia itself is OK but embargo on its goods transit through another independent state is bad.

Stop the Russian evildoers and send them packing. Send every available weapon to the Ukrainians until the Russians are defeated.

10 ( +20 / -10 )

Belarus will absorb Lithuania and Modovia will have a referendum to become part of Russia. Ukraine will become landlocked and Poland will will absorb parts of West Ukraine it believes is rightfully theirs. EU will negotiate a peace deal with Russia during winter that includes cheap gas and oil to save their economies and prevent people freezing. Nord Stream 2 will open. USA will be angry and send it troops to face off with China. UK will have massive street protests over no food, oil, gas, electricity.

or, WW3…

-16 ( +5 / -21 )

"In retaliation for Western sanctions, Russia has begun pumping reduced volumes of gas to Europe via Ukraine."

All the more reason for Europe and everybody else to wean themselves off of the Russian teat, In the meantime, continue tightening those sanctions further until Russia squeals.

3 ( +14 / -11 )

Stop the LIES, the aggression, the rape, the killing on innocent lives, the land grapping, then things will start to turn back to normal Russia.

4 ( +13 / -9 )

Lithuania is playing a dangerous game. Remember what Kissinger said about being America's enemy and about being America's ally.

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

Rodney - how would Belarus "absorb" Lithuania? Do you really thing Lithuanians want to merge with Belarus? I would be really surprised if that is what Lithuania wants.

Also, don't you think Moldova would be more inclined to merge with Romania instead of Russia?

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Sure, consequences....

Russia may send some of it turret-less tanks, or find some troops who haven't mutinied yet, or maybe re-float the Moskva from its tomb beneath the Red Sea....

What they won't be sending is any Generals - they're all dead....

9 ( +15 / -6 )

how would Belarus "absorb" Lithuania? Do you really thing Lithuanians want to merge with Belarus? I would be really surprised if that is what Lithuania wants.

you are correct, and Lithuania has a massive neoNazi movement, linked to Azov and in active combat in Ukraine. But war is war. Belarus is very well armed and is controlled by a dictator. If Lithuania cuts of Russian territory, then Putin just has to wave his finger.

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

Rodney - if Belarus or Russia attacks Lithuania, that would invoke a NATO response. Are you foreseeing a direct attack on Lithuania?

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Rodney,

it seems as if you have some secret sources to make your predictions.

Any close connections to Russia? Any insider knowledge.

Because I don't think what you said will happen, not in the near, not in the far future.

Actually, maybe even the opposite will occur. Lithuania, a NATO member surrendering to Belarus or Russia? Now that's pretty off the wall. Moldovia becoming part of Russia? Don't think so. Poland absorbing parts of West Ukraine? After all they've done for Ukraine and also being a NATO member? C'mon, even you should be able to see the facts instead of the fakes.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

also, isn't Kaliningrad technically an exclave?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

This war will be determined on the battlefield, wish and hope ,and who you support, has no variables on the outcome ,only brute force will determine the outcome

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Putin wants access to Kaliningrad, which Lithuania has blockaded.

The world wants access to Ukraine's ports, which Putin has blockaded.

Perhaps there is a deal to be made.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

According to Putin's recent argument and reasoning for invading Ukraine ("taking back what's ours") the Germans would have every right to parachute into Russianized Kaliningrad (formerly called Königsberg, the birthplace of Immanuel Kant)  to take back East Prussia ripped from sovereign German territory by Stalin in 1945. This recent patch of "Russia" is now turning out to be a pesky "poisoned pawn" for Putin in his shameless power grab game.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

I’m pretty sure NATO has run many scenarios and responses. Russia falls back to its Nucs, expect a massive response from America, France, Briton….suicide. If the Russian army can’t subdue the Ukrainian after 4 months (with massive losses) drawing direct NATO involvement would be madness. Even if they mass mobilisation, that takes months to train, equip ( If they have that much equipment) and move a vast number of people. I doubt NATO would standby idly. They have dug themselves a hole, only a humiliating withdraw will get out of this one.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

We will soon see BREAKING NEWS: Kaliningrad is applying for NATO membership :)

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

1glenn,

"deal to be made?"

Well, at least you said perhaps.

I'd say no deal with Ukraine losing some of their territories!

And "Uncle Vladi" most definitely would not agree with that.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Sorry Vlad, your hollow threats of Russian military aggression no longer inspire any fear....

Your military has been shown to be nothing but a bungling paper tiger...

Its tactics are flawed, its tanks are death traps, its troops undisciplined and prone to mutiny, its planes and helos readily downed by SAM missiles, and its Generals all dead men walking...

It's been over 100 days and the great Russian military can't even defeat a third rate military power like Ukraine...

All you have left to threaten with are your nukes - but if those work like your tanks they'll likely blow up inside Russia when launched...

The Russian invasion has been a tragedy in all respects, but it made one thing clear, Russia's military is clearly deficient when compared to NATO and the West. And good luck selling those Russian weapons...that blow up...

7 ( +13 / -6 )

When one claims that Belarus will “absorb” Lithuania, or that every perceived Russian enemy is infested with neo-Nazis, one is not existing in this objective reality.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

OK we all agree that Russia ( and by that we should agree the government, let's face it Russia isn't a democracy just a facade of one).

But by blockading this area in retaliation for what the Russian government is doing a form of collective punishment banned under UN Charters and under the Geneva convention?

If Ukraine was doing it I would say OK they are at war with Russia that is I guess part of the war.

But Lithuania is not at war therefore holding the people of that region hostage for something we all know they have no control over is punishment of the collective.

I guess NATO really does want in the war and nuclear war, because if Putin starts losing he is mad enough to drop nuke.

And yes folks he knows the consequences he also knows the consequences if he loses.

So in both cases it ends badly for his so what would Stalin, Hitler do in that situation? Take as many with them as possible, that is what megalomaniacs do.

So many here make no sense!

On one hand you call Putin crazy, irrational, etc...

Then say he wouldn't start a nuclear war because that would be crazy.

Make up your minds either he is irrational and crazy or he isn't.

My view he is nuts and yes nuke are an option in his head if he loses, that is a megalomaniac crazy man's thinking.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

"AS",

so far the only embargo (if you want to call it this way) for Kaliningrad goes for just a few "items", like construction material, coal, metals, and advanced technology.

Really nothing that would make life difficult or unacceptable for those living there.

Contrary to what was and still is happening in occupied Mariupol and other places under Russia's occupation, where people don't even have access to drinking water, necessary medical supplies and so on.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

because if Putin starts losing he is mad enough to drop nuke.

My family is orignally from Königsberg the true name of this enclave. We were forced out of this area by the Soviets and moved to what became the DDR East Germany. In the 90s my family went back to visit Königsberg now this Russian enclave and it was depressing what Russia did to this beautiful part of East Prussia.

Königsberg should never be used in and type of threat, extrosion, or any crime Russia wants to commit toward any nation.

Russia does not deserve this beautiful territory and if this Russian agression continues Königsberg should be returned to Deutschland and the EU so Russia can never again use it as an excuse for war or extortion by Russia against Europe.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Contrary to what was and still is happening in occupied Mariupol and other places under Russia's occupation, where people don't even have access to drinking water, necessary medical supplies and so on.

Is Mariupol in Lithuania?

No!

Is it in Ukraine? Yes.

Is Ukraine and Russia at war? Yes

Is Lithuania and Russia at war? No!

See a difference?

Unless Lithuania is so sure about NATO being a deterrent!

But I would point out win or lose Lithuania would be front line and face massive casualties and destruction.

I point out again Putin as all here say is crazy, so would a Crazy man use nukes? Ask that.

Next in Ukraine you all go Russia isn't doing well, but again I point out , it is not all out war, where are the heavy bombers , Carpet bombing, ICBMs,

Would Russia lose against NATO, in all probability yes. Would western cities like London, Paris Berlin even new York be left untouched?

Not in a million years and yes more would Moscow but does that change the fact the others got massive casualties and damage?!

You all think in terms of Russia will lose, try thinking in terms of what will be the overall damage worldwide, and win or lose the damage in western and eastern Europe will be very very very significant.

Less bravado more brains.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

If Russia attacks Lithuania, Russia attacks NATO.

He's been trying to expand his borders towards NATO so he can attack NATO. It's clear as day.

Thanks for reminding us why Europe has started the last 2 world war and keeps on doing it.

Your comment is a perfect example of revenge on top of revenge.

Always the same thing France feels humiliated, so goes to war with Germany, then Germany does the same, the France then Germany, then Russia, the Germany and so on and so on.

Ukraine is no different, ethnic Ukrainians felts oppression for years, decided to take it out on ethnic Russians, ethic Russians decided to take up arms to do the same and now we are here at the edge of ww3 all because the Europeans keep needing to settle old scores.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

The Russian-Soviets occupied and tried to systematically russify Lithuania by bringing in millions of Russian speaking immigrants after ww2. Nevertheless, the Lithuanians maintained their culture, unique non-slavic Indo-European language and identity through it all, and prepared for an opportunity for independence that came in 1991 on the heels of Russia's perestroika. This, after Soviet tanks trampled and killed defiant Lithuanian protesters leading up to independence. As an independent country and proud member of NATO, Lithuania understands that Putin's Russia is a savage aggressor without morality and is prepared without fear of any Russian reprisals. Lithuania is not afraid of Russian retribution because it has already suffered the worst indignities of occupation, deportation, russification and deprivation by the Russian deviant mentality.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Antiquesaving,

doesn't happen too often, but I agree with you concerning most points.

One thing only: this has nothing to do with Lithuania being at war with Russia or vice versa.

Lithuania follows the rule book concerning imports and exports to and from Russia, i.e. embargoes.

So, they have all the rights to abandon rail-transports thru their territory.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

It's a military operation not a war .

If Putin declares war then there's a huge problem.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

> So, they have all the rights to abandon rail-transports thru their territory.

And my question is doesn't that violate the collective punishment Charters?

You can say it only affects XYZ but if coal is included what makes that anymore different than Germany complaining about gas being cut down as unfair and unacceptable?

Sound like do as we say not as we do.

Russia cut western gas supply, they got upset, The west (Lithuania) cuts a Russian area's coal supply and the west says it is part of our sanctions!

Sounds very selective to me.

But hey we know sanctions work right?

North Korea, collapsed decades ago, right?

Cuba, must but now be free and democratic by now, Right?

Iran must no longer be under the Control of the clerics and the revolutionary guard, right?

So I guess Russia will implode over sanctions any day now,

You should learn better history.

You do realise until very recently the Ukrainian hated the Lithuanians,

It was the polish Lithuanian Commonwealth that first suppressed ethnic Ukrainians and Russians in what is today Ukraine.

The UPA (National heroes since 2015) massacred ethnic Poles and Lithuanians in the 1930s in order to have an ethnically clean Ukraine.

But you see the need for revenge in Europe makes for strange bedfellows.

And as usual ethnic and Nationalistic Euro revenge is bringing us another world war.

Look you may think this is a war, but @kyo was is correct, this is not a war or more likely an all out war.

If it was Ukraine would be firing into Russia, Russia would be carpet bombing Kiyv into the stone age,

You have no idea what all out war will actually look like and of NATO and Russia go at it,

Stay away from Europe because the real devastation will begin.

Oh yes yes yes , Russia will lose. That it the constant repeated bravado by most here, and probably true.

Now at what cost? London, Paris, Berlin, hit my massive bombings, ICBMs dropping in major cities, etc ..

Great we win, now count the dead, the devastation, and we get ready for the next revenge war brought to us by the Europeans.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

Russia does not deserve this beautiful territory and if this Russian agression continues Königsberg should be returned to Deutschland and the EU so Russia can never again use it as an excuse for war or extortion by Russia against Europe.

Next you Germans will be "requesting" the return of the rest of east Prussia (the German territory Konigsberg was located in) so will you force Poland and Lithuania to return their part?

Yep folks this was how WW1 and WW2 got their start, Nationalist revenge.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Do you guys here recognize that some of you here are talking already that WWIII will happen for sure, and it seems that some of you clearly have no problem with that?

And that scares me the most... that there are people around who have no problem with WWIII.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

I'm not saying you're a Kremlin propaganda pusher, but the propaganda you're pushing is what the Kremlin wants the world to believe.

He (or she ? ) is making the same point I made above. Russia has not called the invasion of Ukraine a war. It is just a "special military operation". There has been no wartime mobilization or conversion of civil production to military production. In this matter such semantics matter. If the Russians start calling this a war and mobilize it will change the character of the conflict possibly, depending on how much Russia can actually mobilize. It might be not much, but we do not know and maybe don't want to go there either. That is not Russian propaganda either.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Two aspects that I find interesting about this dispute. Number one Lithuania is responding to a sanctions law passed by the EU. It is not an act driven by NATO, yet if Lithuania is attacked it will be NATO, not the EU, that is treaty bound to come to their defense.

The second and more disturbing aspect is that now Mr. Putin is making threats to do direct harm to the people of Lithuania. Not their country, not their government or their military but he is threatening to harm the people of Lithuania. Ponder that for a bit. Lithuania is one of the other nations that in Mr. Putin's mind are not "real countries" but rightfully part of Russia. Naturally the citizens of the three Baltic states do not share that opinion and it seems as if Mr. Putin takes their rejection of Russian rule and kinship to Russia as a deeply personal insult.

> And that scares me the most... that there are people around who have no problem with WWIII

My children's 98 year old Japanese grandfather recently said that the problem today is that few if any in the USA, Europe and even Japan, haven't experienced real war or the consequences of real all out war.

So the bravado is high and that is what ends up starting wars and getting people killed.

He should know he was around during WW2 and not as a child he was in his late teens and early 20s.

He also lost most of his friends and much of his family.

What we have in Ukraine is not war and not close to all out war.

What we have is a localized conflict like Kosovo, The break up of Yugoslavia.

We haven't seen a full on war since 1945 and those that think such a thing is ok need their heads examined.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

What we have in Ukraine is not war and not close to all out war.

People can call it war, all out war, conflict, special military operation...whatever...

Killing people, killing innocent men, women and children...raping young Girls, destroying peoples homes, destroying their life existence, push them into escaping their homeland, destroying dreams of children and put them into a trauma...trying to distinguish a complete nation...and so on...

You can call that however you want, war or conflict,...these things are the worst that humans can do to each other.

And whoever starts to do that, like Russia did, must be punished and must be taken into responsibility by paying the highest possible price.

And there is absolutely no excuse for that.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Go ahead Putin attack Lithuanian,

then youll see the combined might of NATO sending all their high tech weapons to Ukraine and Lithuania.

NATO countries make up over 500million people and far more wealth than little Russia, not to mention the non NATO democracies that contribute even more aid and weapons to Ukraine and Lithuania, Putin is a madman but hes not stupid
