Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a “self-purification” to rid his country of anyone who questions his invasion.

What a nut job. Nothing says "I am a lousy leader" louder than threatening those who question you.

Despicable little madman. Just a matter of time before someone close to the filthy tryant does the world a favor and finishes him off.

Putin's Russia looking increasingly like a second North Korea in the making

Or the second Soviet Union in the making? In theory it may be the richest 1% all over the world stop treating the rest of the population like serfs but no, Marx's basic analysis cannot be due to whatever is happening in the Soviet Union.

What ever the outcome, Putin will be charged with crimes against humanity and will never be able to leave Russia again, except maybe to other dictatorships like China.

25 ( +31 / -6 )

Can someone please put a round in this mans skull and end this?

Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a “self-purification” to rid his country of anyone who questions his invasion.

That is the latest and clearest proof how insane this mass murderer is.

He is also willing to, what is another word for purification? Killing, I think,...to kill his own people in his own country.

I really hope that now, even the latest Russian Man and Woman will finally understand that this insane Mass Murderer must be removed from this world ASAP.

Now Putin sounds like Kim of Korea. They are both laughable at best.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

They are both laughable at best.

so if Ukraine is "winning", why is Zelensky in the video call begging for US Congress to save them? Why does the US need to send them 13.6 Billion dollars?

they are winning and you are laughing at Russia, right?

-34 ( +7 / -41 )

"Putin will be charged with crimes against humanity"

while other countries have been suffering from WAR for more than 10 to 30 years but sadly no one stand with them or call the USA WAR CRIMINALS!!! its for peace, white peace lol

What's with the quotation marks? You're the only one who has used the word "winning" here.

But thanks for yet more Kremlin propaganda.

Exactly. It's the hypocrisy which I can't stand. Not one single western leader has been held accountable for Iraq, for starters.

-14 ( +8 / -22 )

The guy has lost his mind. Like Hitler in more ways than one. He may well be abusing drugs and altering his perceptions of reality, right and wrong. Now he threatens his own people in attempts to coerce them into agreeing with the murder of a nation and it's people that were never exactly "anti Russia" so much as wanting to be closer to a western European life style.

If Putin can do that to a close neighbor and now threatens his own people, How stable can his mind be? This should be a red light for China and for the people of Russia itself.

The world remembers Hitlers readiness to destroy his own people for his manic goals. Putin seems exactly the same. And just like brainwashed NAZI's who never stopped believing in Hitler, Putin has his brainwashed minions in and out of Russia.

The world needs to get involved militarily before Russia can go further off the rails, and nukes everyone anyway. Putin is at the wrong end of his life and figures it is now or never, and he is not prepared for it to be never. More dangerous than the world including China, realizes.

Danger Will Robinson, Danger.

Or the second Soviet Union in the making? In theory it may be the richest 1% all over the world stop treating the rest of the population like serfs but no, Marx's basic analysis cannot be due to whatever is happening in the Soviet Union.

This comment shows an astounding lack of knowledge about Marx's dialectics as well as the present situation in Russia.

Russians “will always be able to distinguish true patriots from scum and traitors and will simply spit them out like a gnat that accidentally flew into their mouths,” he said. “I am convinced that such a natural and necessary self-purification of society will only strengthen our country.”

I hope Mad Vlad is right, and that true patriotic Russians will purify and strengthen their country by spitting out this scum and traitorous madman.

A bullet in the brain, a knife in the gut, a push from a 10F window, a novichok enema, any will do.

Or just disable him and hand him over to the appropriate authorities to stand trial for war crimes.

Just stop him, please, someone.

All you need to do is call out Putin for this totalitarian crap unless you do like the idea of ideological purification and comparing dissenters to insects.

I find it unbelievably easy to do do.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

@Blacklabel

What do you think about Putin talking about ideological purification and comparing dissenters to insects?

Just say what you think.

24 ( +25 / -1 )

Putin has flare for the poetic and it a pity he did not become a poet or something. As leader he is a total disaster and likely he'll end up in a prison before a lot dissidents.

Putin sounds like he's willing to begin a genocide of his own people, those he might see as just expenses that might keep him from amassing even greater wealth. I expect to hear the words 'traitor and 'patriot' used in future US elections, one party leader's followers have already started to use them.

A Russian airstrike ripped apart a theater where hundreds of people have been living in the besieged city of Mariupol,

City with Russian population, by the way. Not Ukrainian.

Ukrainian troops has nothing to do there.

-16 ( +2 / -18 )

Over the past tree weeks Putin-rhetoric has shifted significantly as the reality of an easier victory faded. The current thinking at the moment seems to be that Russia appears to have accepted it cannot depose Ukraine's leadership and replace it with a puppet government,

Nope. Just to free regions with Russian population from Ukrainian army. That's all folks.

-19 ( +1 / -20 )

At least as recently as Monday, the pavement in front of and behind the once-elegant theater was marked with huge white letters spelling out “CHILDREN” in Russian, according to images released by the Maxar space technology company.

Russians “will always be able to distinguish true patriots from scum and traitors and will simply spit them out like a gnat that accidentally flew into their mouths,” he said. “I am convinced that such a natural and necessary self-purification of society will only strengthen our country.”

Wow, that's a fascist thing to do, Putin. He's acting more Nazi than what he claims Ukraine to be. Just substitute the purity of Aryan people for this

Putin is losing whatever ground he used to stand on. Whoever doubted before whether they were hitting residential areas in Syria intentionally or unintentionally - the war in Ukraine has removed those doubts. They just don't care about hitting civilians as much as the West do. He lied about that; he lied about the insignia-less green men in Crimea even when pro-Russian Crimeans were admitting they're Russian troops; and he lied about not planning to invade Ukraine even while saying they're really moving equipment away from the Ukrainian border which, as we know from private satellites, was another lie. So he has no qualms about lying to you in a straight face even in the presence of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Nobody would ever give him the benefit of the doubt anymore, no matter if they know why he's dong it. He's lost whatever ground he had. Why would you take his words at face value anymore? When he says he has no plans to attack, don't believe him. He's now radioactive in many places in the world

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Putin sounds like he's willing to begin a genocide of his own people

Well first of all he told us Ukrainians were just Russians with an identity disorder, then he started killing them. Not really that big a jump to go on to killing Russians with what he sees as an ideology disorder.

What do you think about Putin talking about ideological purification and comparing dissenters to insects?

Just say what you think.

Putin bad, obviously.

But that doesnt automatically mean Zelensky or Biden = good either.

Why do we HAVE to pick a side, why is lack of full deep throated support for Ukraine seen as Pro-Putin when its not?

Half the people with Ukraine flags in their profile cant name more than 1 Ukranian person and cant find it on a map of the world.

-22 ( +1 / -23 )

Quite alarming to read people completely avoid what is contained in this article.

I can only assume they like, or at least accept, the sort of thing Putin is talking about.

Very alarming indeed.

16 ( +17 / -1 )

Putin is not a "savvy genius", but a mediocrity whose vision for his future was to drive taxi in Moscow until he was selected as a useful cipher by the West's corrupt, alcoholic sock-puppet of choice, Yeltsin, thus the Kremlin war criminal is indirectly a Frankenstein creature manufactured by Western Machiavellian schemers who has come back to haunt his puppet masters. Putin's evident megalomania has persuaded him Hess a holy mission as a great historical figure, a Russian Lincoln, the savior of the "All-Russian Union" and as of yet there is nobody to lock him up in a mental asylum.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Why do we HAVE to pick a side

I’m not asking you to pick a side.

I’m asking for your opinion on Putin talking about ideological purification and comparing dissenters to insects.

Just say what you think of this comment.

I find it utterly despicable.

I don’t like totalitarian crap with purges.

There’s my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

21 ( +22 / -1 )

At this terrible moment I am comparing Putin to Stalin. Stalin went mad executing people who scared him ("no person no problem", said Stalin). I killed off or banished a generation of brilliant artists. Though Khrushchev deStalinized the Soviet Union and actually allowed the government press to publish (mildly) dissenting authors --while burying Stalin beneath the grown--the cult of Stalin persists to this day in Russia and it did in the Soviet Union. Why? Russians claim Stalin saved the USSR. But I more think of Lyndon Johnson right now. LBJ made put the Gulf of Tonkin incident to launch a useless war. This earned him bad marks immediately. Like Johnson started off as a kind of a nice gu (Great Society). He gave good consumer goods to Russia. Then Ukraine Russian Putin's Viet Nam--and showed what a screaming monster he is.

Pardon any typos.

Putin is looking more and more like he is going off the deep deep end, I recommend going to DEFCON2 for the duration of this conflict. I do not trust Putin act like any sane person.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

But that doesnt automatically mean Zelensky or Biden = good either.

Considering Zelensky is trying defend his country from a Russian invasion, pretty sure that's exactly what it means. Zelensky is in the right here, and Putin isn't.

Why do we HAVE to pick a side, why is lack of full deep throated support for Ukraine seen as Pro-Putin when its not?

I mean, you don't have to, but silence in this case only means you're allowing the aggressor to further bloody the victim, and increase the likelihood Russia will invade it's neighbors again.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Putin miscalculated the fact that once truly free, people tend to like said freedom.

He has the over 60's in the palm of his hand (national TV lovers) but any Russian under 50 has major reservations.

Go Ukraine!

12 ( +12 / -0 )

he speech appeared to be a warning that his authoritarian rule, which had already grown tighter since the invasion began on Feb. 24, shutting down Russian news outlets and arresting protesters, could grow even more repressive.

And then the Putin apologists come complain about how their right to free speech is being curtailed in the West. Priceless.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

The fact that Putin and his mob have to censor what they're really doing in Ukraine, that they can't even let people call it a war or invasion.................

Look, if they truly believe that the Russian people would support what they're doing in Ukraine, then there's no need to censor anything or anybody. If the people would support what they're really doing, then why not let the people know exactly what's happening and let the people decide for themselves, with no need to put a leash on people?

You only hide something from other people when you know that if they ever find out what you're really doing, that they won't approve of it

If you know what you're doing is right, then there's no need to hide it or censor it from people. And there's no need to "purify" people, but just let people decide for themselves since the people would support what's right regardless what they call it, whether a war or invasion or whatever

But the fact that Putin and his mob have to censor and hide what they're really doing in Ukraine and can't even let people decide for themselves, illustrates that they're doing something wrong and can't let people know. Think about it: if you're doing something right, would you censor what people think? No, you would stand by it especially when people know everything!

Putin bad, obviously.

Substitute Putin with Hitler, and Zelensky and Biden for Churchill and Roosevelt....

Doesn't sound so good then, huh....

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Putin has boxed himself and by association the People of Russian into a corner without any means of escape as the atrocities and war crimes mount up.

So will Putins desperate measures will inevitably result in even more extreme barbarism up until and maybe beyond chemical and biological weapons engagement.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Substitute Putin with Hitler, and Zelensky and Biden for Churchill and Roosevelt....

You are apparently unaware that both Churchill and Roosevelt killed millions of innocents, Churchill worsening a famine that killed 4 millions Bengalis and Roosevelt put innocent ethic-Japanese Americans in prison camps - in addition to many other crimes.

Using critical reasoning skills and asking pertinent questions doesn't make one a Putin supporter. Blind hero worship is the reason people like Putin gain power. Zelensky has done plenty of sordid things in his short career. When you feel flushed with pride or anger or hero-worship, you should pause and ask yourself if you haven't been manipulated by the news. Such emotions are not good for peace.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

Blind hero worship is the reason people like Putin gain power. Zelensky has done plenty of sordid things in his short career.

Yeah? Name them.

Nothing Zelensky's allegedly done comes anywhere close to Putin threatening to "purify" his country of people expressing anti-war sentiment.

Putin's word cannot be trusted or relied upon in any way shape or form.

He disrespect for international law, his act of extreme heinous inhuman acts amounting to holocaust cannot an must not go unpunished.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

He is pretty aggressive and dominant. But this also show that he has true power in his country and is confident enough to say this and still be sure to stay in power.

Invading Russia was a total bad idea, but if you look at from their perspective, they aren't completely wrong. NATO broke their promise to Russia when they continue to expand over the years, which force eventually force this kind of response. What most westerners doesn't get is that Russia cannot back down from this. It literally put their nation itself at risk if they admit their loss. Ukraine access to the Black Sea, it's massive agriculture farmlands, it's large amount of facilities to produce and repair weapons from Russia all made it extremely important for them not to lose it to the west. This is also why in the past the USSR has the largest fleet and army station there along with a lot of their nukes. Its location is vital to serve as a shield to Russia against invaders. In Putin eyes, him giving up Ukraine would destroy Russia in the long run. They will slowly be strangle by the west in the long run using economic methods. For countries like Russia that heavily rely on oil and gas to keep their economy afloat, they need nation like Ukraine to stay neutral no matter what.

What most doesn't understand is that in Putin eyes, showing dominance and having control is the only way to keep Russia not falling apart and continue their ways. If they lose this control, they will eventually face the same fate as what is currently happening in countries like in Africa and the Middle East. Is fear and a uncertain future that drive these kind of reckless and dangerous actions.

I think this war will not end until they made sure Ukraine sign some compromising conditions to make them feel secure enoough to withdraw their troops. There is only two ways this can go for this war to end. One, they take the capital and then slowly grind area by area until they destroy all resistance like with what they did in Chechnya( that took them 10years to finally withdraw). Or two, Ukraine finnaly sigh a peace deal with a lot of compromising conditions and ceding certain territories that already has been taken over.

There are some pretty interesting articles and lectures about the way Russia acted and why they had to resort to this kind of method again. It's pretty interesting. To take a look at their perspective and why Russia is willing to accept isolation from the world and still want to continue.
